118.10.2024Zak226.0pretty standard match worked at a conservative pace except for a few sequences. Bockwinkel put Jarrett over
205.08.2024JoeyBingBong7.0Good match, but far more a triumph in hierarchy and presentation, in truth. Jarrett is a rookie here, stepping in for Lawler as a total underdog. Bockwinkel manages to portray this with such poise, putting in time with Jarrett yet maintaining that illusion entirely. It's a rare mistake that opens the door for Jarrett's most sustained success, with the 1-year pro otherwise relying on speed throughout. Ultimately, his inexperience costs him, with Bockwinkel merely escaping after sustaining a shoulder injury. Such a smart match, a subtle example of Bockwinkel's excellence. ***1/4

719.11.2022Makai Club 6.0Just days after Nick Bockwinkel gets screwed out of the AWA World title and the title was held up, Bockwinkel goes down south to Memphis with the title still in hand. Usually this would be Lawler? s spot but he? s out with injury due to the steel cage match against Austin Idol a week prior to this, so Jarrett was given a chance at the established AWA representative. Jarrett shows some promise in the early stages, quickly stepping around Bockwinkel before getting caught in a tight headlock that most wrestlers fall to. Jarrett catches Bockwinkel with an over the top wrist lock and keeps at it, no matter Bockwinkel? s resistance, before landing on a shoulder pull armbreaker, when the match returns from the break. The match does lull a bit here, largely due to Jarrett? s inexperience but picks up once more once Jarrett does his best Jerry Lawler impression with a series of sweet punches, followed up by dropkicks until he misses one and Bockwinkel pins him to win. Decent match. Bockwinkel? s fingerprints were all over it but Jarrett showed some promise as well. ***1/4
807.11.2022No One8.0Nick Bockwinkel was about to retire at this point as he was 52 years old and he still had it in him to deliver a great match against a young, up & coming Jeff Jarrett who was probably at his best at this point in time, and could have drawn comparison to Ricky Morton (he would go on to become successful but largely considered one of the most overrated pro wrestlers of all time and end up leaving a lot of negative memories for wrestling fans since 1999). Nick Bockwinkel truly is a Legend and one of the greatest in-ring performers of all time. He proved to be an ageless wonder. Rating for this match: ****
920.06.2022MercDVisual7.0Good match; solid structure, decent action. Pacing was a bit slow for my taste, though perfectly understandable given that Bock is FIFTY-TWO years old here. (***1/2)
1018.06.2022Wrestling Forever 8.0Der AWA World Heavyweight Title stand hier auf dem Spiel und es war ein wunderbares Oldschool Titel Match (***1/2).
1116.01.2022TigerDiver8.0Great match here, pitting the aging Bockwinkel against the plucky youngster in Jeff Jarrett. Bockwinkel gave the young JJ loads of shine here, and the latter made sure to keep up with him at every step. [****]
1212.11.2020KinchStalker8.0Two days after losing his AWA World Heavyweight title (though at this point it's technically held up), Nick Bockwinkel comes down to Memphis. His opponent is a young Jeff Jarrett, all of eleven months into his career. This is my first exposure to early Double-J, and I'm somewhat taken aback by how much I like what I see; I'd heard people say that he was actually better as a young babyface than the heel he would become known as, but now I see what they were getting at. The elder statesman is up for the task of leading the way for a young but hot talent, and he's a lot of what makes this match, but make no mistake; this is not a great match *in spite of* Jarrett. It's a great match partially *because* Jarrett rises to the occasion and gives a strong performance. This isn't a complex match, but it's absolutely effective, and a gem in the twilight of Bockwinkel's career. ****
