Andre The Giant, Butch Reed, King Kong Bundy, Rick Rude & The One Man Gang vs. Bam Bam Bigelow, Don Muraco, Hulk Hogan, Ken Patera & Paul Orndorff

[7.0] "This may be the biggest, big man Survivor Series style match ever. Good lord and satan are all these dudes huge. Luckily though, it's big dudes who know their strengths and how to really work and so the action is not in any fashion dull and in fact quite engaging. Sure maybe the first half isn't too much given that Butch Reed, Orndorff, and Ken Patera don't really got the electric personalities going on to clash in the second half but it's fine enough big dude stuff that warms everything up for when the key players start going at it. Of course, the big story of this match is the rise of Bam Bam Bigelow here. A total start making performance and beautifully booked story of Bam Bam starting off looking quite overwhelmed when he's initially tagged in during the second half of the match until Hogan can help him out and start handling the heels, but when Hogan (totally fairly! ) gets himself counted out like a moron it's down to Bam Bam against three big baddies and you think there's no way he can bring it back. Yet, he slowly fights his way through One Man Gang and King Kong Bundy by the skin of his teeth, and while Andre largely dominates him Bam Bam is able to occasionally fire back defiantly to give audiences hope for him to make a real comeback until Andre's sheer size proves too much and he's elbowed to death by the largest man of all the giants involved here. It's an amazing story, only let down by Hogan storming his way back into the ring to steal all of Bam Bam's glory and attack Andre for literally no reason as he blames Andre for his count out in the most out of pocket whine fit ever. Classic Hogan acting like a hero when his actual action paint a very different picture. Still though, the match is fun and does exactly what it needs to do in setting up the domination of Andre on route to him and Hogan getting into it again and making a rising young star in Bam Bam Bigelow in a way that wasn't exactly standard for young, fresh talent at the time. Especially in a match involving Hogan. It's just too bad such would not last."

[5.0] "A match that didn't surprise me at all and finished like every 80s PPV with Hulk Hogan for the cheers and ovation of the crowd, a match that was a 5/10 [***]"

[7.0] "It's a pretty solid main event, which set up a big Hogan v Andre rematch after Andre won with Hogan protected with his elimination happening when he gets drawn out to the outside and gets counted out. As with all the matches on this show, the pacing was really good with not too many breaks in the action and the momentum swings back and forth with Hogan's team having a slight edge at first. That all changed when his team was whittled down to 2 with them baiting Hogan into his count out loss as it left Bam Bam Bigelow in a 1-on-3 with Bundy, OMG and Andre and the outcome was inevitable, but Bam Bam does shine in that underdog situation as he does somehow get two pinfalls before Andre is too much for him at the end."

[6.0] "I found this as a bonus feature on my Survivor Series 2006 DVD so I figured I would give it a watch. It had JBL and Michael Cole as commentary so it was a little weird but I will look past that. The only other thing I will say about the commentary is that it seems like neither man knew what they were talking about since they kept misnaming superstars. That includes calling King Kong Bundy, Bam Bam Bigalow, and Calling One Man Gang, Hakeem and saying he became One Man Gang later on. The match itself is decent. The action is fine and the crowd seems into it. It obviously has that older style to it where it isn't as flashy but it works. The one problem is that once Hogan gets eliminated, it is only big men so the match slows by a lot. It still wasn't bad but there wasn't a ton too it outside of a few moments. I think it did tell a good story with Bam Bam trying to come back from a 3v1 situation and failing at the last moment."

[9.0] "Goddamn what an awesome match. One of the very few ten man tag matches ive seen where I am a fan of every single person in the match, and it was extra great in this because everyone got time to look fantastic as expected. Just a lot of fun"

[4.0] "The spot where Hulk tags himself out against Andre makes absolutely no sense. Aside from that, it's pretty dull match in a very bad PPV. Andre wins to set up Hulk rematch which was teased thoughout the match."

[8.0] "The elimination order was hit and miss, but this was still a good tag match between both teams with solid in ring work and chemistry between everyone involved, Ba Bam was the true standout in this match, and the crowd was hot throughout."

[6.0] "Good main event. The match is enjoyable, having just seen three other clashes of the same type. The early eliminators didn't show up, but the match writing is interesting and Bam Bam Bigelow makes a strong impression on this fight. In-ring quality: 1.25/4. Stakes: 0.75/2. Justification: 0.75/1. Place on the card: 1/1. Suspense: 1/1. Bonus/Malus: none. Total: 5.75/10. Match seen on the WWE Network."

[6.0] "The main event follows the trend of decent but not great matches that has been seen throughout the entire show. Hogan was obviously not eliminated by taking a pin so that was the way to go. Bigelow got a nice showing but in the end it was not enough to overcome Andre. It was okay, but I would not rewatch it."

[4.0] "The lack of creativity with the moves and eliminations here is appalling by 2024 standards. This is a three star level match for 1987 in the WWF but it is not even a three star level match for pro wrestling in 1987. Adjusted to todays standards I give this a four out of 10."

[8.0] "If you want to experience the 80s WWF Golden Era, this is it. A raucous, red hot crowd, Hogan and Andre, a great cast of supporting characters in OMG, Rude, Orndorff, et al. but most of all just tremendous fire from everyone involved. This match packs an incredible punch, and they don't leave any fat whatsoever on this run time. Everyone who gets in goes in with the intent to throw bombs, bring the energy, and feed off the crowd. I love how the babyfaces always are right back on offense when one of their compatriots is eliminated. The size of the heel team begins to make its presence felt down the stretch as OMG in particular and then Bundy take over, and this is sold well as a real momentum shift. The classic Hogan comeback feeding into the elimination serves well to ensure they don't need much from a clearly weakened even from WM3 Andre, and Bossman puts in a strong effort as BIP the last few minutes as well. Great match. ****"

[7.0] "7.3 What started as a placeholder event to keep the Hogan/Andre feud going ends up being a pretty good concept. Usually my low 7-point ratings signal not so great a match, and this one was definitely sloppy with the speed at which these 5-on-5 matches go, but also the collection of the biggest wrestlers in the world all in one match. WWE at this point couldn't help but be entertaining, though. The crowd was subdued compared to most Hogan main events, and it can probably be attributed to a real rare experiment in WWE at the time, which was having the top heel go over in the main. The last minute is kinda muted and a foregone conclusion, but also shows just how protected Andre was, and how serious they were about his presentation as a big man "monster" heel. Before we saw his sheer dominance, we saw the fabled Bam Bam comeback. If this era of wrestling doesn't do it for you, the Bigelow hope spot is his crowning moment, even cooler than the Mania main event with LT. Worth seeing just for what could've been a huge Bam Bam star turn in 1987, if keeping Andre hot for a Hogan rematch wasn't the biggest match they had to work on."

[6.0] "It's good for the first half but really drops off in enjoyment after Bam Bam starts getting beat down. It's goes on too long, misses to many chances for a hot tag, and Hogan goes in stupid fashion. A okay match that could have been better. 6/10."

[6.0] "This match is a good classic Survivor Series match. Hogan getting counted makes sense. The only knock comes in Bam Bam not being strapped to the moon to finish this match. Late career Andre and King Kong Bundy are a real struggle for this match to get some heat."

[5.0] "I can't imagine this was a good match even for its time, given stuff like Reed doing absolutely nothing, all the faces working heel in tandem spots, Hogan's dumb accidental tag to Patera, etc. The stuff that has aged well, such as Patera's big cross body and Paul Orndorff/Bam Bam's face shine wasn't nearly as over for the crowd as I think it would be for a modern crowd (well... except for Bam Bam. Bam Bam got the biggest non-Hogan pops by far.) A dull match can be wildly elevated by a fire crowd, and obviously an 87 crowd from WWE was on fire. The heels work of One Man Gang eats up a surprising amount of the final arc of this match, which is a surprising choice when they could've had Rude working there. Still OMG does well enough to keep things interesting in-between the cumbersome King Kong/Andre. Hogan's count out so that Team Andre could win and still protect the champ makes sense, and it gave Bam Bam a chance to shine and almost pull off the impossible of winning a 3-to-1 encounter versus all of the companies top heels. The finish stretch was fantastic in setup, only held back by the fact that he had to work with Bundy and Late Career Andre. Bam Bam's hero's arc here is 100% the reason to watch this, and if the trappings around his story had been executed better (and if Bam Bam really had a rocket strapped to him here the way he should have, ) this match would be easier to reccommend."

[7.0] "This was a pretty good match for its time. The heels sold well to make the faces look good, Hogan got himself eliminated to not look weak in defeat and Andre was the sole survivor."

[6.0] "A big bummer seeing one of my all times (Butch Reed) reduced to meat for Hulk to devour. Poor Rick Rude is also looking like a chump here but he's selling his ass off regardless (his elimination of Orndorff *almost* makes up for it all). I liked the mauling of Ken Patera but wish his elimination was more definitive than a happy accident, why was Patera even there? Ugh! There are times the One Man Gang is a total force and quite destructive - there are others where the poor dude needs to lay down for a while. I enjoyed Hogan being eliminated simply because f' that guy. Bam Bam Bigelow looks like a STAR, so of course he was buried sooner than later. Dirtsheets at the time painted a picture of Bigelow being a flop; that's manure as politics is what held him down, the crowd is HOT for the man, all crowds were! I was at shows then & was hot for him along with everyone else! I enjoyed the final moments, which felt fairly epic. Hotdog Loser Hogan at the end though? Hard pass. 5.75"

[8.0] "Bam Bam looked like a stud in this match, almost beating the One Man Gang, Bundy, and Andre by himself. But Andre beat the worn-down Bigelow after a fun, hard-fought contest. Hogan had to come out like a sore loser after the match and hit Andre with the belt, but Hogan must pose."

[7.0] "Liked a lot of the story throughout the match. Faces get the first elimination, and it goes pretty even but the big heels are the remaining heels and the Hogan count out was well done. The second ref idea played nothing to stop the heel cheating. Bam Bam had a great performance with him being the one in the 3 on 1 situation. Liked that they gave 1 to the heels"

[5.0] "This is a very safe, but still good match. The storytelling was well done. This match had two missions and accomplished them both. The first was to give fans just a little taste of an Andre vs. Hogan rematch, which was masterfully teased and then delivered just enough. The second was to strap a rocket to Bam Bam's back. And even in defeat, Bam Bam still came out over and looking very strong. That being said, everyone else sort of felt like filler to me. I don't think Rude got any offense in at all besides a sneaky pin. It seemed like his sole purpose in this match was to bump around early on, because there wouldn't be much of that later. Reed, Patera, and Orndorff also just felt like filler guys to pad the numbers. This match excellently served the purpose it was meant to, and the crowd ate it up. It's a good close to the first Survivor Series, but I wanted a little more out of it. It's just too predictable and too safe in execution for my personal taste."

[8.0] "A really fun, solid main event. The first 12-15 minutes are particularly good. Great babyface fire from Bigelow and especially Orndorff. It's really sad that Paul Orndorff went out on top like this. He had so much more to give. Rick Rude absolutely steals the match with his selling and bumping for the heels. It's weird to see WWF finish the show with a heel winning, although they had that jerk Hulk Hogan clear Andre out so he couldn't celebrate it. What a dick."

[8.0] "By far the most fun match of the night. It told a good story and had, for the most part, hot action and a fast pace. You had some good eliminations and almost everyone played their part pretty much perfectly. Andre looked the best he could being kept on the apron for most of the match but being effective in his spots. MVP of the match has to go to Bam Bam for that ending stretch Holding up against the three monsters and using his agility to try and win. Also props to Hogan for acutally putting some energy into this match as well. My only gripe would be One Man Gang being in there for so long since he was the least mobile guy after Andre, I would've probably given that spot to Rick Rude instead, but still this was a really good Main Event"

[7.0] "It had a big match feel mainly due to the great story and build up. The Hulk vs Andre feud still worked and the best example was this match. Brilliant move with eliminating Hogan and making a 3v1 with Bam Bam, who really made himself a star here. Apart from the story the work in the ring was okay too, maybe except for One Man Gang who's just awful and even watching him walking around is painful."

[6.0] "This is a very interesting match. This isn't the best in terms of ring-work but this match has the objectively best story. Great to see Andre back and I'm glad he was the first solo survivor; great comeback for him. Epic to see Andre and Hogan in the ring again for the first time after Mania 3. Bam Bam Bigelow was so over here it was crazy; he was getting equal or greater reactions to Hogan. Pretty successful main event for the first Survivor Series even if I don't like half the competitors in it."

[6.0] "Great to see Andre and Hogan in the ring together again, but the other people make this a bit messy. Still a fun main event, and much better than the previous two."

[7.0] "This succeeded at feeling like a main event spectacle due to the sheer size of the men involved. The face team worked really well together, with Bigelow being the highlight. The story was engaging and provided a template for many future Survivor Series matches. The match was held back by some of the offence looking a bit poor (a lot of clubbing blows that did not look very good at all), but had a very good structure that kept it entertaining throughout. It was the only match of the show show that didn't drag, and easily my pick for MOTN. Although I must say... The post-match with Hogan was pretty bad and really made Hogan come across as a tool."

[7.0] "26/11/87 Survivor Series WWF. Hogan, the big sore loser. Jesse Ventura is on top form for commentary for this match. It kicked off like a rocket and was heading for an 8 star match, but cardio caught up with the big men and you could see it in their performance at the end stage, which became sloppy. One Man Gang couldn't even sell any thing anymore, he just wanted to roll over and get pinned. It would of made more sense to have Orndorff and Rude survive to the end with Bam Bam and protected Andre as they had much better cardio. Great to see Bam Bam Bigelow get a push and if I'm not mistaken he got the biggest pop after the Andre and Hogan confrontation. The aftermath was cringy with Hogan stealing the show chasing Andre out of the ring. After a rip roaring start it never lived up to what it could of been. 6.5*"

[6.0] "This started off pretty hot but the match slowed down once Hogan got counted out. It was cool to see Bam Bam get the big push by taking out Gang and Bundy and facing off against Andre on his own."

[6.0] "Andre's big return to the ring since facing Hogan at Mania. They go out of their way to work the match to keep Hogan and Andre apart until the finish that sees Hogan take a lame count out elimination. The baby faces start the match by destroying Butch Reed but it all goes south for them pretty quick as Patera, Muraco and Orndorf all get eliminated in rapid succession. If this was the Attitude Era they totally would have done the swerve at the end where Mr Wonderful turns heel (again) and causes Hogan to get pinned costing the team the match as he celebrates by rejoining the Heenan Family. Bam Bam gets the mega push as he goes 1 against 3 and manages to survive the Gang and Bundy but then gets beat stupid and pinned by Andre. Since the good guys won every other match on the show, this should have been a tell that the faces were going to lose pretty hard. Still a decent match."

[10.0] "The match that made Survivor Series a main attraction every year, this match is basically the more underrated but far superior sequel to Andre and Hogan from WM 3 with the addition of having some of the other big stars like Bam Bam Bigelow and The Heenan Family in there with a super hot crowd who just loves everything wrestling."

[8.0] "This was a damn good main event. Love the overall drama and structure of the bout. The stuff with Bam Bam at the end just screamed epicness, and thus made him the biggest star of the match. The Hogan stuff was annoying and made him look like the biggest dickhead in the world but whatever, doesn't take much away from the match. [***3/4]"

[7.0] "Very fun main-event for the first ever Survivor Series ever, which got Bam Bam Bigelow over big time. Unfortunately no big push came out of this star-making babyface performance, and Bam Bam quietly left WWF the next summer. Hulk Hogan cried and bitched despite being eliminated 100% cleanly via count out, and of course came out after the bell to attack the winner Andre (who did NOTHING wrong at all) and posed for ten minutes, which was eye-rolling to put it mildly. It was otherwise really good though, the Bam Bam Show! [***1/4]"

[6.0] "A big, dramatic clash of monsters, just like it was supposed to be. It wasn't as good as the two matches previously, I will say, but in terms of workrate it was never going to be, and it made up for itself with plenty of heat and crowd investment. It was awesome seeing Bam Bam Bigelow get to show up big at the end of the match, too, as he was always so much better than he was allowed to be. At the same time, Hulk Hogan throwing a fit and running Andre out after he won was... obnoxious, as not a fan of Hogan, but it's what the fans were wanting, so I suppose it is what it is."

[8.0] "This was actually a really good match. The crowd was insanely hot for it and the booking was extremely well done. The faces got the clear advantage at first but the heels did heel things to take the advantage and keep it. Bam Bam looked like a star fighting back in the 3v1 and this was just really good. ****."

[8.0] "This one is structured brilliantly, with a lot of the nimbler wrestlers getting to work a quicker clip in the first half, with it then slowing down into a heat segment on Bam Bam when it comes down to the bigger guys. As a result the match is paced well and the section where Bam Bam has to take on three heels by himself is executed perfectly, with Bam Bam looking like a star in the process. You watch a match as good as this and you can see why they decided to keep the format going for as many years as they have"

[7.0] "Lots of star power in this match, that definitely helped things here. It was a star-making performance for Bam Bam as well, doing well to overcome the odds before falling at the end. Very smartly booked match and entertaining throughout."

[7.0] "Good match despite a certain few things. Do Muraco looked out of place here as just didnt match the intensity of the others. Andre the Giant was hardly in the match until the very end. Hulk Hogan got eliminated in a very illogical way and acted like a heel, refusing to leave. Other than that, all looked good in this match (apart from Don Muraco and Andre) especially Bam Bam. Great intensity, real feeling to the match."

[8.0] "Is this the best Survivor Series match? No. But it was a damn good starting place. This was a fun match that had the crowd hot. Loved them teasing Andre vs Hogan clashing yet again in the beginning only to hold off. The star of this match was very obviously Bam Bam who came so close to overcoming the 3 on 1 odds but in the end, came up short. How they never saw money in him I will never know. (***3/4)"

[6.0] "I have to say this match was only as good as it was because Bam Bam Bigelow put in one hell of a shift for this."

[7.0] "Good main event. Everyone played their roles and had short doses of time and quickly got out of there. Bam Bam Bigelow was tremendous at the end and was a terrific babyface who never gave up despite the odds. Hogan coming back was heelish but whatever. ***œ"

[6.0] "Better than I expected. Some good work, but also some really bad work. Andre was... well Andre. I really like the finish, shame they couldn't hav continued it to create a bigger star out of Bam Bam."

[9.0] "Great match, better than I expected. Lots of interesting and exciting combinations, and worked at a much faster pace than you would expect. Orndorff was a particular standout, and obviously Bigelow got a huge spotlight as well. I dug the storytelling they did with Hulk's elimination, though he sure looked like a sore loser coming back to attack Andre after the match!"

[10.0] "Excellent match, size, size and more size. When Rude, Muraco, Patera, Orndorff and Reed look small, you know you've got a visual spectacular. Bam Bam steals the show with his 3 v 1 performance. The elimination of Hogan was well done. It demonstrated such a hatred/fear of Hogan that the heels worked together to get rid of him. It also served to put Andre back on the map as the #1 contender as the first cracks in Hulkamania begin to form. I can see why people feel the match itself was not memorable. I give it an additional point each for the visual spectacular and the importance of putting Andre on the path to grab the big belt (albeit very briefly)"

[7.0] "The final Survivor Series match misses the phatos of having something to win. It's just Team André vs Team Hogan. For most parts it's a good match, the elimination of Hogan does not arrive at the end. Also, it's a big match for Bam Bam Bigelow, which takes the role of the last man standing against Andé and Bundy. ***1/2"

[7.0] "This was a pretty good main event for the original Survivor Series which set the stage for all the events too come. The champion Hohan was well protected with his count out elimination and Bigelow was helped with a star making performance for even when the writing was on the wall he still fought beating two bigger men before falling victim to Andre."

[4.0] "This match was rather interesting until on a ring there were no five slow strappers. Even ladies on this show showed much more. My rating: *3/4."
