[5.0] "The match had a great start because of the intensity from Ahmed Johnson, but the match ended up feeling about 5 minutes too long as it's pretty much a carry job from Goldust with a few too many rest holds. This was a very controversial storyline and it doesn't really hold up very well and it goes too far with the gay panic stuff where you would see Goldust fondling him mid match. Dustin Rhodes put everything into this character and while that is commendable, it does affect the quality of the match in a negative way. The strong win at the end did a good job of making Ahmed Johnson look like a potential main event player as you could see the WWE was high on him at the time."

Rhodes is fully into his gimmick but that's also the problem, as this gay panic angle is more visible here than in any of his other PPV matches. The structure of the match is fine and the fans scream at the end of it, but it leaves a poor taste in the mouth at the same time."

Outside of the very real punches being thrown, it was okay. Ahmed is still green at this point. Does he always miss them over the top rope dives to the outside?"

Der siegbringende Ausraster Johnsons ist einfach zu extrem, dass nicht irgendwie cool zu finden. Ich weiss, das muss nicht jeder verstehen, ich verstehe es ja selbst kaum."

Johnson went nuts of course and his entrance to this match where he throws the doors open and wipes out the door doormen was great! Ahmed wants revenge for GD putting the moves on him when he was tied to a stretcher unconscious. Ahmed kicks GD's ass for about 5 minutes, even hitting him with the steel steps. GD turns it around and uses the steps himself. Goldust concentrates on Ahmed's lower back. Goldust showing a nasty temper in this match. Goldust gives Ahmed mouth to mouth after a sleeprhold and Ahmed wakes up and goes sickhouse on GD! Ahmed hits a spine buster then drills him with the pearl river plunge for the title, crowd loves it."

[5.0] "There was some good stuff in this match, but not really enough to fill 15 minutes. Goldust's mind games, as commentary called them, were entertaining especially when combined with his hard-hitting style, but despite looking the part Johnson was dull as ditchwater in the ring and did little to respond to Goldust's provocations until the end. The "gay panic" storyline hasn't aged particularly well, but it's not much worse than others from the period."

However the match developed two issues which held it back, first there were long segments where not much happened, and second way too much focus on Goldust being an "evil gay" (or playing MIND GAMES as they kept screaming on commentary for some reason). The good parts were good, but the overall package was lacking."
