"Electrocuting" a man in an electric chair, then he walks away 2 minutes later...? Just the worst. WCW in 1991 was a trainwreck."

Sadly, the fallout from this is still being felt today, as indie promotions rely all too often on the same tropes of booking Chamber of Horrors matches up and down the cards, with guys doing the same bump into the same boring electric chairs and pretending to be electrocuted while pyro shoots out from the chair's headpiece. I don't have to tell you, we're all pretty sick of it, and we've got this one to blame for starting the whole trend."

The actual spots prior to the chair coming down were actually solid and it was a fun match until it was lowered into the ring. There was simply no room to move around, 8 guys cannot exist in that little space. Commentary was also heinously mid. Favorite part of this match however was the ref cam, that kicked ass. Shoutout to the CCM hockey helmet with a camera strapped onto it."

[2.0] "Man I wanted to love this so much. It's so goofy and campy of an idea it's right up my alley. Sting is so over here, if they would have just dumped all 8 guys in a cage it probably would have been an all timer. Everything is actually really good, then the electric chair drops down and everything crash and burns. There's no room to move so the guys can't do anything, the lever keeps falling down and the crack WCW camera crew shoot it every single time it falls down at one point going to a hard cam that shows the ref putting it back up at least 3-4 times. Would have been better if that killed off the Adbullah The Butcher character completely, but Abby just getting up and attacking the Ghouls just shows that WCW can't do anything, even setting up an electric chair and it's lever properly."

It delivers all the chaos, inconsistency, and camp that the match name and hodge podge lineup would suggest. When Abdullah is not the least mobile man in a match, you're in for the perfect Halloween treat."

I didn't follow the story, I don't understand where the masked guy comes out from or why after a while the electric chair comes down on the ring and takes up half of the ring, or even what the stretcher-bearers are doing on the stage waiting. The match itself is sloppy, I started to blink in front of it, luckily it's not very long. The finish is average and the post-match really weird. (0*1/2)"

"This is one of the greatest matches I have ever seen. I went into this seeing the rating and expected to regret my retrospective viewing of WCW for the first time, but I was shocked at how much fun I had. I was born in 2001, so I have never seen any of this and can't say how I would have reacted to this in real time. Maybe I'd have hated it like everyone els, but watching it in this context (on a random tuesday evening in January) I had more fun than watching most wrestling on TV these days. Yes, it's dumb. Yes, there are miscommunications everywhere. Yes, it's clunky and awkward. Yes, the stipulation is supposed entail someone kayfabe dying to end the match. Do I care one bit? Nope. In an era of "good wrestling", I have seen too many "technically sound" kickpad wrestlers work matches with little to no life or spark. The audience will chant "this is awesome" or "holy shit" when they do the double-down and Dave will give it 4.5*, but I would much rather watch Sting get saved by the Steiner Brothers from death by electric chair. I don't exactly know why, but I think it has to do with the fact that no one will ever try something like this again, giving it a novelty that a lot of other matches don't have. It's dumb, but it has spirit and the babyfaces kick ass."

Alas, it didn't matter who was in there as it was an abomination of clunky camera work and awkward looking bumps into the chair. Finally after what seemed like 3 hours, Abby gets zapped, then no-sells it anyway."

We watch this almost every year during October. It ticks all the right boxes for goofy fun. Wrestling comfort food as it were. Putting nearly all of the your major stars in the opening match is such a booking disaster that all you can do is laugh. Is it a good match? No, not at all. Like I said, if you're a fan of MST3k and Rifftrax this is like watching Miami Connection."

[10.0] "This is maybe the perfect Halloween Havoc match. I loved this from start to finish. Starting with the teams coming out in the wrong order and just standing in the ring with their opponents very peacefully. Then the action starts, and its an actually decent brawling match that if it were filmed better, people would like it more. During the action, there is a random camera cut to an unknown gimp handcuffed to the cage.. he is NEVER addressed by the commentary team, nor is he ever shown directly on camera again, incredible stuff. Speaking of camera work, obviously the Ref Cam worn by Nick Patrick is so incredibly ahead of its time that it never gets taken seriously by anyone, plus Patrick looks silly in a hockey helmet. What really brings this all together is the death and resurrection of Abdullah the Butcher, including what looks like a legit cheap shot on a member of the stage crew. Is it technically wrestling? Barely. Is there way too much standing around and miscommunication? Absolutely. But will you ever be bored watching this? No, not a chance. This is some of the most entertaining sports entertainment WCW was capable of."

All of the stupid shenanigans like JR being more fixated on the ReferEye camera than the actual match how little space there was in there cactus jack with a chainsaw abdullah selling like he was in an actual electric chair I just love it. Apparently the lever kept falling down and they had to keep putting it back up. I cannot put into words how much of a blast this is if you think of it like what it is, a complete and utter train wreck your supposed to just have a good time with"

At first I kinda liked it, because the chaos was somewhat enjoyable, but then it went on, and on, and on without being able to even follow the action, because everybody was everywhere. Well update: he didn't die, he just lost his mind or whatever. I don't know what's happening, brilliant job Dusty."

[2.0] "It'd be hard to argue against giving this a failing grade, but the novelty value at least makes it entertaining even if it is a bit of a mess. There are enough talented wrestlers here the some of the action actually isn't all that bad, particularly in the early portion of the match. However, it isn't long before things fizzle out and we end up with people simply losing around ringside looking lost. But between the ghouls and the electric chair, the match manages to have a camp sense of charm thanks to how absurd it all is, and the finish is classic. I wouldn't exactly call it 'good', but I do think it's worth watching for a laugh and to soak in the bizarre spectacle of it all."

They put the Steiners, Scott Hall, Sting, Vader, and Cactus Jack in this match, and even they can't make this match work. The finish of the match is Abdullah the Butcher dying. Watch this with a couple of buddies if you want to laugh at a bad match."

It's been a while since I actually watched this show but I believe some guys almost got hurt for real 2 or 3 times in this match. The name of this match is quite appropriate if you consider that the match was the horrible part."

[4.0] "In fact it could have been a good match, a good match in a steel cage for 8 men with various objects to remind of Halloween and give a good "cartoon" atmosphere to the whole, and indeed during the first 5 minutes it was the product to which we are entitled. But someone had the very bad idea of adding this electric chair to the middle of the ring and making it the object of victory. Why is this a bad idea? For different reasons! First reason; How do you expect your wrestlers to fight decently when you block the central location of an ordinary fight, namely the ring? As a result we end up with long minutes where the different wrestlers seem incapable of doing anything other than hanging on to the cage or walking in the space beetween the ring and the wall of the cage, waiting for the finish. Add to this a TV production that is not always at its best for the action and you really have the impression that nothing is happening for a good third of the match. Second reason; having to electrocute your opponent on a chair to win is still a pretty macabre concept even for Halloween; fortunately that the good guys win in the end without having technically needed to activate the electricity lever. Besides, Sting and Mick Foley are clearly the main characters of this match... which is logical from the point of view of the scenario but in fact given the very good star power of this match we could have appreciated that certain wrestlers are more exposed to the screen. In reality, even though the finish is pretty poorly executed with Foley waiting for maybe a minute without realizing all that time that he's about to electrocute the right person, it's probably the best thing they could have done. Including the after match, so that the whole thing doesn't seem too shocking. But that should have alerted them to what a bad idea of this concept."

[3.0] "This was a stupid concept. It should have been a War Games match, but this was a poor substitute. That said, I rather enjoyed this just for the spectacle. The electric chair lowering into the match was beyond dumb, but Jim Herd also thought The Ding Dongs were a good idea. Zombie orderlies, Abdullah getting electrocuted. All bad, but a fun watch jut for something different."
JokerDeSilva wrote on 19.05.2023:
[3.0] "At this point, it goes without saying that the Chamber of Horrors match was a fundamentally stupid concept, distinctly Jim Herd in all the worst ways. The idea of putting your opponent in an electric chair to kill them as the finish? Bananas. Still, all things considered, I don't think it's actually THAT bad. It's still bad, don't get me wrong, but for most of the match it's just a particularly clumsy multi-man cage match, which are always kind of fun in their ridiculous chaos. The finish definitely takes it down a few notches, for sure, but there are honestly a lot of matches in the Herd era of WCW that are way worse than this."

Overdesigned and overbooked, and yet every bell and whistle that they put on to the Chamber failed (even the lever itself, which flopped down and had to be taped up by a zombie orderly). Finish saw Cactus Jack electrocute Abdullah by mistake (which means I'm supposed to believe that Cactus is so stupid that he can't look to see if it's his partner in there) which Abdullah no-sells! Way to bury a gimmick."

The post match with Abdullah The Butcher attacking the pepole on the ramp is so fun. Also bonus points for having on door as the entrance on the stage and Rick Steiner's Halloween gear."

More refs in helmet cams please. This had potential as a bit of fun if it went less than 5 minutes but it felt like it took hours. Still not sure why the teams were composed of those people though."

[0.0] "Everything about this match absolutely sucked. At times I wondered if I was instead watching a battle royal (and not a very good one at that), as they did nothing but meaningless "brawling" and choking in the corners for extended periods of time. A few masked guys would appear from different caskets and make run-ins, only for them to be immediately taken out like complete jobbers - so that turned out to be just confusing. I won't even comment on the "refer-eye" camera angles... The finish was clever yet still worthy of a facepalm, with Mick Foley electrocuting his own partner, and overall this was just way too long and nothing but a big clusterfuck. Horrible horrible "match". [DUD]"

[4.0] "The match most famous for the stipulation that involves somebody having to be strapped to the electric chair and having the switch flipped is not as bad as most people would have you believe. Sure the WCW production team at the time definitely weren? t equipped for this amount of bodies and action in such a confined space and does feel very claustrophobic, but with that being said this match features a lot of well known brawlers and they do just that, throw punches and kicks for the duration of the match and it? s completely inoffensive for the most part, I? d even go as far as saying it? s fun. Not good by any means but if you want to see a truly terrible match from this era go watch the scaffold match featuring Steve Austin, that? s a REAL 0/10 match"
CoolKyle wrote on 22.09.2021:
[0.0] "So the ring is surrounded by an electrified cage, and there are various "implements of torture" in the ring, with the object being to strap someone into an electric chair and pull the lever. Cards on the table here, we're probably lucky that WCW didn't have a legitimate electric chair installed by mistake and kill someone on live PPV. So everyone does some weak brawling with only Sting appearing to give a crap, and then a smaller cage randomly lowers itself at 3:30 and everyone stops and stands around looking at it. Vader tries to pick Rick Steiner into the chair first, but can't. Oh and some zombie EMTs shamble down with a stretcher waiting for the finish. Meanwhile, Cactus Jack decides it's a great idea for Sting to drop a coffin lid on his head and then he's busted open as a result. Meanwhile Vader is using a SHARPENED STICK on El Gigante. So the camera has to go super-wide because WCW doesn't want to show any blood, so it's absolutely impossible to tell what the fuck is going on while everyone randomly brawls on the outside with no discernable rhyme or reason. So finally Abdullah almost gets Rick into the chair while Cactus gets ready to pull the lever, but Rick escapes and puts him in the chair while poor stupid Cactus pulls the lever on his best and only friend, electrocuting him to death on live TV at 12:51 before the governor could even grant clemency. What an opener this was."
