Floyd Mayweather vs. The Big Show

[5.0] "This match was just Mayweather running away from Big Show and getting some punches in. Thankfully the celebrity matches got a lot better in recent years."

[7.0] "This rocked. Better than the world title match just before it. Wasn't a 5 star classic by any means, but it didn't need to be. Was entertained, that's all that matters."

[5.0] "Anyone expecting a technical treat from this match is beyond help. Instead of focusing on the action, the emphasis is clearly on the narrative, which is hardly successful at first but ends up being quite decent. When Mayweather puts his opponent in a stranglehold, I almost throw my hands up in horror, but the finish with the brass knuckles and the resulting knockout of the giant is of a higher quality. The young man fills his pockets here without really having to do much. Due to the hype, I'll round it up to five points."

"Loved this match. Great feud; that no way out segment was something different and made it look so real like austin tyson from AE. Big Show gave his all to make it work, and it worked. It's safe to say that this match was better than the WWE championship match that night. I enjoyed the storyline and the match paid off."

[7.0] "Was this an all-time classic? No. It wasn't great from any wrestling standpoint but...you know...as far as wrestling matches with celebrities involved, this did make Big Show look like a monster. He destroyed Mayweathers posse and only lost because the boxer cheated. It was short and fun while it lasted, and though I hate when celebrities go over the stars, this one wasn't as bad as some of the other stuff they've had Show do at Mania."

[5.0] "They worked hard and had an entertaining match. I think WWE could have done a better job of coaching Mayweather to either be a face or heel and stick with it because it was hard to tell what he was supposed to do. I'm pretty sure Show was the heel, but it was tough to root for Floyd due to the way he was acting out there."

[6.0] "Not the biggest fan of celebrities wrestling but this one was nice. The match started kinda slow but after a bit Big Show got the upper hand beating not only Floyd but his team also. The ending was nice with Floyd hitting Big Show many times with the chair and knocking him out at the end with the brass knuckle. The way that they put the match was very nice and entertaining. A solid 6/10"

[6.0] "Hard to give a proper rating for a celebrity match like this. Big Show carried this match, and while Floyd took very few bumps, it fit his character and also made sense logically. Crazy he got paid $20, 000, 000.00 for one match."

[10.0] "One of Big Show's crowning achievements. Mayweather working as this fast, cocky little heel that can throw good punches was perfect as a pivot from the original idea, and Big Show played into it perfectly. The giant athlete, struggling to overcome the speed differential, but with knockout power in his fist, doing his best to catch Floyd and tank a barrage of weaker but still effective blows. Mayweather trying to slow Show down even more, Show annihilating his entourage, and the heel admitting he can't throw an unassisted knockout blow and cheating with brass knuckles (THE perfect hidden weapon), all just excellent concepts executed perfectly. ****3/4+"

[9.0] "This match is awesome. Dont know why ppl on this website sometimes have to be a snob about wrestling. Big Show is incredible in this match and Floyd is the best celeb wrestler ever mostly bcoz he was a fighter himself and it added to the credibility of this match."

Tiny guy trying to take down a monster who looks nightmarish larger than him and he still manages to be such a prick in the ring that the audience is losing their mind every time Paul gets his shit in. Makes me long for Shoot Style Big Show as a concept, and makes me appreciate both men much more than I did previously."

[8.0] "This average dissapoints me. This was one of the most fun matches ive ever seen. Big show was so great in this match as the big guy who keeps getting evaded and suckered by the little guy and floyd and his posse put on one of the most entertaining celebrity performances ive ever seen, they all sell big shows damage so well but also had some great comedic moments and one of the guys even bumps and his drink went flying. Such a fun match. ****1/4"

[3.0] "For years whenever this match was brought up, it was always with glowing praise. I never understood. It's not the worst thing to happen but it's barely passable as a match. It should've been a tag team match. There's really no circumstance that exists where a celebrity should be in a singles match. It's not that interesting it's full of interference because it had to be. Even in kayfabe no one believed Mayweather had a prayer."

[5.0] "**1/2 (05/10) The celebrity matches that we get from today's wrestling tend to be more legitimate in the name of the game, instead of the cheap popcorn fillers that we've been accustomed to seeing from the days of Mr. T and Lawrence Taylor main-eventing WrestleManias. Though the fight itself wasn't a barn burner by any stretch, the ultimate potential of celebrity wrestling first shined from beginning to end of Floyd vs Big-Show, and a hot Orlando crowd putting this one over."

[1.0] "No no no just no. This "match" does NOT deserve A rating this high! . The whole Eleven minutes was just Floyd Mayewather ducking Big Show and hitting a few shitty looking punches. Then he runs away from the ring and then an endless sleeper hold on The Big Show. Then Big Show kicks Mayweathers entourage's ass and then Floyd hits Show with the brass knuckles and wins the "match". Tell me how is this over a 6 rating. 1 point MAX for this piece of garbage. Also the eleven minutes felt like 20 at least."

[4.0] "Honestly better than I expected it to be. It was pretty fun. But I also somehow enjoyed it less than everyone on here? It just felt weird having Big Show do this right after coming back. But it was a pretty big match. Both guys looked decent, but still gave a classic big guy vs little guy match."

[8.0] "I say this with no hyperbole. If someone lifted Floyd Mayweather's act from this show and made it their character in 2025, they would be a main event heel pro wrestling heel. Mayweather's performance here genuinely reminded me of Owen Hart. Floyd was phenomenal here, somehow selling for a majority of this match while being completely unsympathetic. He was a showboat and a coward. He talked a bunch of trash but needed a bunch of help to back it up. When he knocked Show out with the brass knuckles, he got on the ropes and celebrated like he had beaten him all by himself. It was a performance that I would genuinely have people study. I fucking adored this match. This was one of the best celebrity matches you'll ever see. ****1/4"

[1.0] "This match shouldn't even exists. It's just punching, grabbing and roaming around. Nothing was hardcore for "no holds barred" rules. And the fact that this was a David vs goliath match where the Goliath is considered the hometown hero and the david turns out to be an awful person, you know the feud had flops thanks to the wrong reasons. i don't get how WWE thought this would bring any sort of money or publicity for them. All this match did was make a laughing stock of the business during its darkest time. No one benefitted from this match(maybe Mayweather due to the paycheck)"

[2.0] "Boxer Floyd Mayweather wears the weirdest pants I've ever seen, plus gloves that blunt his blows. Somehow, in a painfully slow wrestling match, against a giant wrestler who has a full arsenal of moves beyond punches, Mayweather manages to prevail amidst a chorus of boos from the audience. I'm definitely not the biggest fan of Big Show's fat era, but he'd put in the work to slim down again by this point and having him lose to a celebrity guest as a babyface was a huge disservice. Piper vs Mr. T > Brawl for All > Big Show vs Mayweather."

[7.0] "[3.25*] This match is just great. Such an unique match-up with Mayweather and his stooges playing heel perfectly. Dynamic was fantastic and Show was just great tossing everyone around. I had a lot of fun with this one, a proper and over delivering Mania celebrity match"

[4.0] "Pretty fun ass match and the crowd really eats it up. The ending kinda stinks but the rest of the match does its job. Mayweather isn't bad at all and his strategy to take Big Show down is really interesting. Big Show looks like a monster here, tossing around Mayweather and his goons."

[7.0] "This is a solid and really entertaining match with Floyd Mayweather playing his role perfectly and this was definitely the best celebrity wrestling match at that point."

[6.0] "Hahahahahahhahahahaha the silly factor is off the charts in this match and both men sell it so well. Mayweather spends the early match doing some dancing with the occasional jab and hook, followed by Big Show just manhandling him for five minutes both of which are equally engaging and ridiculous and they wrap it all up with a pretty damn clean finish (save the chair shots... none of those looked good tbh). Obviously not elite wrestling, but a delightful performance nonetheless."

[7.0] "All praise to Mayweather - he knew he would get booed and he played the heel role perfectly. He knew what the crowd wanted to see and he let Big Show manhandle him for the most part and was a fantastic scumbag here. They structured the whole match incredibly well, gave Floyd some offense without making Wight look weak and the crowd was loud whenever Mayweather was getting his ass kicked."

[6.0] "This was decent enough for what it was, honestly not the most enjoyable celebrity match but most definitely not the worst. The stipulation carried the match."

[4.0] "This was better than I would have expected. I typically don't like Big Show matches or celebrity matches but there was a simple, straightforward story here and while there weren't any thrills or surprises to be had there also weren't any embarrassing botches."

[4.0] "The match was booked intelligently, but that doesn't make it a good match. Was it a good celebrity match? Yeah, it was definitely an alright one. But we don't have a different rating scale for celebrity matches. As a whole, this was passable, but nothing more. It was booked well, and Mayweather is such a great athlete that it worked. His selling was also a lot better than I expected it to be, too. It was incredibly boring, though. Mayweather lands some punches, and Big Show dominates the vast majority of the match after that. They tried some smoke and mirrors with Big Show knocking Mayweather's team around, but it gets old fast. Finally, Mayweather gets a chair and uses that to get show vulnerable for the KO. Smart, but predictable. No one stunk the joint up, but this is certainly not material I'd want to rewatch with any regularity. CERTAINLY not worthy of being the semi-main event, either. This was WAY too high on the card for what they delivered."

Mayweather hits 2 chair shots, a low blow, and another chairshot on Big Show. 12: Floyd hits 2 more chairshots on Big Show. Floyd hits a brass knuckles punch on Big Show. Now my low rating might be colored by the fact that I am not a fan of Floyd Mayweather the person, but it's mostly because they gave this much time and platform to a match that Linda McMahon could've had with the Big Show. Mayweather actually played his role as a heel very well here and they made good use of his bodyguards here. Big Show dominates Mayweather for a while and Mayweather sold it very well. The ending was well played with one of his bodyguards coming in to hit Show, this allows Mayweather hits him with a ton of chair shots and then he finishes him off with brass knuckles.***1/2"

[9.0] "This is easily one of the most enjoyable celebrity matches I've ever seen. I actually can't stand Mayweather as a person, but he plays the heel role naturally and knows how to work a crowd. Big Show carries the match well and it's hard not to route for him. Perfect match for what it was."

[10.0] "Certainly one of, if not the very best celebrity match of all time. Mayweather performed his role flawlessly, even adapting to a more heelish presentation when it was clear the crowd was against him, and Big Show looked as monstrous as he ever had in his career. This is top tier stuff in my book."

[7.0] "Mayweather takes to wrestling like a fish to water. He oozes confidence but can show fear at a flick of a switch without it ever looking melodramatic. He tries to rely on his boxing talent but has to play dirty if wants to stand a chance. Big Show is in the best shape of his career and plays the role of the unbeatable giant to perfection. Mayweather's entourage getting involved was a good way to hide Mayweather's limitations as a non-wrestler. Although this must of been carefully planned out spot-by-spot, you could never tell as everything flows naturally and not like they were just moving on to the next spot. Probably the best match featuring a non-wrestler."

[10.0] "Best celebrity match of all time for my money. And I *LOVE* some of the Dennis Rodman and Kevin Greene stuff in WCW. This was booked to absolute perfection and is a great match by any measure. Hot match to cap off a hot feud. ****1/2"

[6.0] "Surprisingly, everything went at a more or less normal level. There was no wild stuff and no overbooking. They did it right that Mayweather did not get involved in the role of a wrestler and played purely in the ring as a boxer. The sight did not tire or anger it in the least and is a sign of good quality for this type of fights."

Mayweather was not in there to try to be a pro-wrestler at all which helped him to some degree in being a heel and played too his known ability to not get hit in a boxing ring. As a No Holds Barred with a celebrity this was pretty decent"

[7.0] "I was going into this thinking it was gonna be trash (the buildup didn't help things either) but to be honest, this is by far one of the better celebrity matches out there. I know that's not saying much, but this was actually pretty decent, if only because unlike most celebrities, Mayweather is actually in shape and doesn't gas up after 2 minutes, and Big Show is likely the safest wrestler you could face and works with him well. This isn't a "good" wrestling match, but it's not really supposed to be, it's a fun entertaining bout with plenty of plunder and nonsense to go around, Mayweather does a surprisingly solid job at selling Big Show's offence and playing the smaller guy here, having to rely on his punches and getting his fair share of slaps and punches from Show. Can't really knock it, just a small match that's correctly scripted, prob the best match you could get out of these two guys."
