| 05.04.2025 | ElNiniOM | 6.0 | A good main event that highlights the interesting work of both wrestlers. Nothing very brilliant, but the moves are well applied, the intensity is present and the use of the cage interesting. The finish doesn't seem all that violent, but the idea wasn't bad. In-ring quality: 1/4. Stakes: 2/2. Justification: 0.5/1. Place on the card: 1/1. Suspense: 1/1. Bonus/Malus: none. Total: 6.5/10. Match seen on WWE Network. |

| 20.03.2025 | JoKu2311 | 8.0 | A pretty hard-hitting affair for its runtime, the match was a worthy main event of the show and match of the night in my opinion. Flair was bloody, because of course he is, and Garvin had a pretty tough offense. The Sunset Flip that brought Garvin the title in a previous encounter was not enough this time and Ric Flair used the cage to get the victory. Solid one and probably the best Startcade main event up to that point. |

| 18.01.2025 | Smi-48 | 7.0 | This isn't a Flair-type marathon match, but a solidly accented and well-pointed brawl with decent pace, juice and meaning. Of course, Ric Flair taking the World Heavyweight Championship belt again isn't a classic here, but as a decent main event, it's still probably the best match on the card. |

| 11.08.2024 | JacquesRougeauCanHaveMyWife | 7.0 | A really good match with the fantastic last minutes. Garvin got a mixed reaction from the crowd, but it didn't ruin the match and only created a unique atmosphere as Ronnie was still working like a babyface and Flair was a heel. The match was getting more exciting as it went on, they were making everything faster and the final moments with a lot of false finishes were great. |
| 11.08.2024 | faskalasuchus | 7.0 | 3.75 stars mosty strong steel cage match & a decent enough main event to end the show def better than dusty vs lex that's for sure. |
| 20.07.2024 | RealGrapsThomsen | 7.0 | This was a pretty good match. There was absolutely no real noticeable signs of cooperation and there was some really good blood and physicality. Flair was the biggest face to this crowd. The match had some boring points and was a little short however. |

| 08.06.2024 | Hoos82 | | Great match! I agree with others in saying that this match is severely underrated! It's an intense match from start to finish filled with stiff action and some really good nearfalls down the stretch. The crowd was very much against Garvin as champion but he certainly delivered here and Flair was....well Flair and that was just fantastic! Definitely a hidden gem worth your time to check out. |

| 09.03.2024 | Ofir | 9.0 | I don't know the full context of Garvin as NWA World Heavyweight champ and my opinion might be different if i watched it at the time, but seeing it now not knowing much I loved it! Classic NWA Flair match that just really clicked for me. I don't usually find that the brawls from this era age as well this one worked great for me, the action was non stop, the cage added an extra element that made the brawling more intense, the chops from both guys were amazing and despite the crowd not shitting on Garvin they were still super loud throughout. |
| 31.12.2023 | Mizzle Assault Ant | 10.0 | Fantastic match, drastically underrated in my view. Garvin and Flair is a pairing very nearly on par with Steamboat and Flair in my opinion. Just listen to the ungodly sound as these two lay into each other, like somebody cracking a whip as they chop and slap and punch and bleed all over each other. This absolutely ruled. |

| 22.10.2023 | Arnold Furious | 8.0 | A seriously underrated contest. I think, historically, people disliked this because of Garvin's spot as world champion. The crowd chanting "Garvin sucks" is evidence of this near the start of the contest. However, they don't continue to hate on him during the match and both guys worked really hard. The match has good pacing, lots of hard strikes and Garvin's overhand chops are particularly vicious. They do a nice call back to Starrcade '83 with Garvin going for Flair's high crossbody, which finished back then, and they also call back to Garvin's title win with the big sunset flip off the ropes. This time Flair recognises it coming and grabs the ropes. All in all, a hearty, well fought contest, worthy of going on last at Starrcade. Especially on this Starrcade, which was weak. |
| 16.09.2023 | KingsCrossing | 7.0 | While I agree that he isn't World Champion material, Ronnie Garvin is a very underrated pro wrestler. He is gritty, intense, and hard hitting. What surprised me is that I actually think their previous matches without the cage or the blood felt more physical than this did - which isn't an insult to this match, since they beat the hell out of each other too, but it's more to the point that I don't think it's quite their best work. It's still very good, though, and I love the final few minutes. Garvin leaps off the top rope looking to finish Flair off with the sunset flip that won him the title in the first place, but this time there is more of a struggle as they fight back and forth over the pinfall. Garvin is very good at showing desperation. I think the finish itself probably could have been slightly better, but it worked. Not their best match together, but still well worth watching. |

Flair and Garvin have a hell of a bout here; those two always had great chemistry. Flair put on a great show here. I for one not only get, but am glad that Ron Garvin got to be World champ, no matter if the reign was short. Even if it was a divisive move; Ron Garvin was talented, so I'm glad he got his moment. Too bad his career peaked here.... |

| 23.03.2023 | CMFunk007 | 8.0 | Wow, Chicago hated Ronnie Garvin and chant that he sucks during the match. But Garvin was a stiff, hard-hitting wrestler who seemed to always deliver, and he and Flair beat the crap out of each other here to deliver a fun match. |

| 19.03.2023 | flightaker321 | 8.0 | The Chicago crowd absolutely kills Garvin in this, and he probably should've never been world champion but this match was great. Garvin can throw some physical strikes, and Flair can also do the same thing so as a result we get a really intense NWA world title match, and something different compared to most matches I've seen in the US during this time period. The last couple of minutes are great, and Garvin teases winning the match with the sunset flip like the last match but Flair was able to fight it off, and Flair instead wins by crashing him head first into the cage.**** |

| 30.05.2022 | cactus | 6.0 | I can't help but feel sorry for Garvin. He shouldn't have been the NWA Champion as he just doesn't have the personality for it. Flair completely outshines him here. Garvin might be a good hand and can throw some stiff strikes, but the fans are not buying into him as World Champion. The smarky Chicago fans boo Garvin despite Flair being the cheating heel. The last three minutes is where things pick up. We get fast action, with many convincing near-falls. Garvin attempting a cross body from the top rope felt like a callback to the main event of the first-ever Starrcade. Garvin tries to charge at Flair, but Flair uses Garvin's own momentum against him and crashes him head-first into the cage. Flair covers Garvin and wins, much to the delight of the fans. |

| 23.01.2022 | rbonne1 | 10.0 | One of the most underrated main events ever, they beat the crap out of each other real good. Garvin and Flair had lots of great matches and this may have been the best of them. |

I also enjoyed Flair's bladejob and his whole selling of the beatdown in general. Very good, borderline great main event. [***1/2] |

6 Punkte. |
| 27.02.2021 | jajt1989 | 7.0 | One of the better Garvin matches ive seen, Flair tried his ass of to make this great seeing as the crowd was all in favour of Flair who was heel at the time and Garvin was the face and the crowd shit all over him. |
| 24.11.2020 | JokerDeSilva | 7.0 | On the one hand, it's a Ric Flair NWA title match. On the other, it's Ronnie Garvin. It's still hard to understand why he won the belt in the first place, and the crowd certainly don't seem much interested in anything he's doing, but luckily we have Ric Flair there to carry the load. He does it with aplomb, as always, and it is once again hard to remember a bad Ric Flair match. This wasn't the best - a bit on the long and slow side, with it hard to get fully invested in Garvin as a challenger - but they manage okay, and use the cage nicely as well as a set piece. Ric Flair wins, thankfully, and we all get to move on from the Rubbish experience. |
| 24.08.2020 | MRN | 8.0 | Putting aside the total miscasting of Garvin as NWA champion and his hostile reception from the Chicago crowd, this match is great. High levels of intensity from start to finish, no resting, all action, tremendous strikes from both men and great near falls. If nothing else, this match is worth watching to see Flair slice up his forehead while getting his face scraped on the cage, completely gruesome stuff. |
