Pat showed that he has a knack for it, Adam just consolidated himself as one of the best to ever step foot in NXT |

Pat is a serviceable cocky heel that totally understands his character, and there's a few moments that go off exceptionally well (namely his running away from Cole's super kick) but there's also a ton of time wasting to transparently cover up for McAfee's lack of experience. It's a thin match but it goes as well as it could have, especially for a pandemic era match. As another commentator pointed out, this is a great example of why you shouldn't rate a match off of one or two gif-able high spots. |

| 37 | 15.07.2024 | 704eb | 5.0 | For a first match, this wasn't a disaster. But that's about all I can say, because the idea that McAfee is a natural and looked impressive in this match is pretty insane to me. He was willing to do some big spots that celebrities typically wouldn't, but that doesn't make them good. Pretty much everything he does looks awkward and the commentators make it sound like he's having the performance of a lifetime. Also, a false finish for a simple kick to the chest is pretty insulting, I get he's an All-Pro punter but it's pretty phony for what is supposed to be a serious professional wrestling match. |
| 38 | 09.07.2024 | Kyle from TheMatchGuide | 2.0 | Jesus man, if they really wanted McAfee to wrestle why did it have to be Cole? Adam is very much someone who can't get out of his own way, and giving him someone who has no idea how to do anything aside a few certain spots is bafflingly stupid. Not to mention McAfee is the very exemplification of annoying, so you don't even want to root for him. Glowing proof that NXT was truly dead by the end of 2019. This is one of the worst 'celebrity' representations ever because it wants us to take it seriously. Fuck off with that. 1.25 Stars. |

When I initially was watching this, I was really worried McAfee would be winning with the way Cole was selling the Punt on NXT TV, but I'm really glad Cole ended up winning this one. |

| 55 | 27.09.2023 | GreatAether531 | 4.0 | One of the more baffling matches to get praised recently, and the representation of why having some gif-worthy spots doesn't make a match good. You see so much commentary about how McAfee is a natural in the ring and so impressive, and I honestly don't see how we saw the same match at all. Everything wrong with McAfee's performance becomes obvious when one pays attention to what occurs in between the big spots. It's how he barely reaches a very short Adam Cole's midsection for a dropkick as the commentators lavish praise on him. It's in how he overshoots a corner kick and somehow lands with less force than usual. It's in how his movement feels very reserved despite his rambunctious demeanor, all the while he never seems to bump correctly. In a sentence, it's in how everything he does feels phony. Cole is his usual self here: technically smooth and proficient without being especially great, which is why this doesn't get a lower rating, but where this match really suffers is the attempts at storytelling, during which we get to see some of the defining flaws of late-stage Black and Gold NXT: a large helping of cringe-worthy 'dialogue' done to facilitate the story, as well as over-the-top facial expressions because neither men have the will to tell a story through the subtlety of their actions. Approaching wrestling like community theatre is a big part of what made pandemic-era wrestling so unbearable. Not to mention, Cole had been the smarmy main antagonist of NXT for 2 years, and yet we're supposed to like him because he happens to be going up against a worse heel? Come on. |

Superplex is practically his signature action. Adam Cole did a good job of keeping the match safe and flowing. Applause for both of them. |

Even Bad Bunny at WrestleMania 37 was a fantastic showing but Pat is really the equalizer for Bad Bunny and this is the best example of that. Many might complain why Adam Cole competed here for this long but this can't be done any better to put McAfee on the map and silence the doubters towards McAfee. Cole as a babyface was really enjoyable here. 3.75 out of 5 stars! |
