[7.0] "Very quick triple crown match but hard hitting and fun. This match also serves as a reminder of the dramatic flair of Tenryu despite his stoic demeanor. Tenryu's selling in this match is the highlight for me. His selling is most noticeably excellent in moments like where he gets hit by Gordy as he runs into the corner and collapses into him, or with more subtle choices like he lifts his foot up after taking the boot from Gordy after an attempt to clothesline him out of the ring. This match did feel slightly underwhelming by the end though, probably could've gone at least a few minutes longer or had just one more sequence."
[8.0] "Relative sprint here, and it works. Gordy is here as the upcoming gaijin singles alpha, Tenryu is the still-fairly-fresh Triple Crown champ and "rival Ace". Gordy monsters Tenryu throughout this, with any number of high impact moves. Tenryu is a one-man Rock'n'Roll Express - Tenryu sells Gordy like a chief, particularly selling the work on his neck (relevant for Gordy's Piledriver) and puts Gordy even more over than he already was - though the crowd is insanely hot for Tenryu in this one. There are many cutoffs on the champ's attempts at comebacks, but he keeps plugging away. Tenryu's advantages are his sheer resilience and his smarts. They kick out of each other's finisher, but the decisive moment is a fairly static moment where Tenryu is lying on the floor and Enzuigiris Gordy - and then kicks him in the face whilst lying down. Both men are exhausted, and this is how Tenryu manages to get his final reversal and builds into the Powerbomb pin. Strong match, both men work excellently and play their roles perfectly. 4/5"
[6.0] "September 2nd, 1989 - Tenryu is in place as the Triple Crown Champion. Although he holds the belts, he does not exude the same aura of impregnable dominance that Jumbo did. Even against Gordy he faces a battle to cement himself as the undisputed top gun. And for Gordy this marks his ascension to a legitimate top tier singles gaijin star for AJPW. No longer is he just a tag guy. Here, even in defeat, his performance was violent, dominating and VERY reminiscent of Stan Hansen's powerful displays against Tenryu in 1988. ***1/4"
[8.0] "Tenryu wasting no time powerbombs Champion (? ) (He had just teamed with Gordy like a month prior so I think this is him) to start things off. Gordy smooth as always for a guy his size tried to take Tenryu's head off a few times. Tenryu's enziguri's worked overtime. In the end Tenryu folded up Gordy after a powerbomb was good stuff."
[7.0] "Tenryu gets us going by powerbombing a rookie. I blame the rookie for getting in the way. Gordy is motivated and excited and puts in a good performance here to show the crowd what he has got. Like much of Terrys singles stuff this is comfortably in the very good range rather than great but a very nice way to spend 12 minutes."
[6.0] "I'm not really sure that I saw the big deal here - I actually found the match fairly disappointing. There was certainly nothing wrong with it, it was a very solid and perfectly enjoyable match. Everything looked good, and there were a couple moments where the action was very physical (I really liked the extra little kick that Tenryu threw while on his back near the end of the match - I always love when Tenryu sneaks in an extra shot). I just don't think anything that happened was all that interesting or impressive. For the most part it just felt like a pretty standard match to me. A well executed one for sure - but standard all the same."
[8.0] "Exciting is the key word here. Terry Gordy is young, strong, and energetic. He wants to prove himself by taking it to Tenryu, Gordy wants to gain the respect of Tenryu, and posibly the fans by beating Tenryu for the belts, and uses the simple plan of beat him, until he is done. Although he loses he gains the respect of Tenryu in an excellent effort. (**** 1/4) This match is way too underrated on this site."
[7.0] "A better than average match between these two, and I wish it had been given more than 12 minutes. A lot of stiff shots from both men with Gordy controlling most of the way. Tenryu was believable in his selling and comeback"
[7.0] "Pretty good outing for Gordy here in a big singles spot, I really like how this match starts with Tenryu attacking Gordy's second (who I believe is Todd Champion, but I'm not 100% sure), which pisses off Gordy who hits a big powerbomb on Tenryu right from the start. This allows Gordy to start the match way out in front of Tenryu who is constantly trying to fight back. I would say my problem with this match is that there is no clear reason for Tenryu to retake the initiative. I felt that this would've been better if Gordy made some sort of mistake, or if Tenryu had done something spectacular. However the two merely trade offense without anyone truly getting the better of one another. The setup to the finish is cool with Tenryu hitting a kick from the ground after landing the enziguri. This match has a great opening and ending but everything in the middle feels standard. For me this is about as good as Tenry vs Yatsu so I'll give this the same grade. 3. 5 stars"
[8.0] "That was very good. In fact, I was expected a energic and intense brawl in these 12-minute span. Nevertheless, seeing Gordy taking methodically his time to harm Tenryu was quite enjoyable. Gordy stays very strong but the Triple Crown champion made it clear who's the boss at the time and manages to put down his challenger with a very good comeback. A bout worth-watching, like Stan Hansen : Terry Gordy wasn't just a brawl machine, he could add psychology in his fights. I enjoy the very intensity Gordy put in his moves."
[6.0] "This was pretty good. Not great. Not even for 12 minutes but Tenryu looked strong as champion, pinning Gordy who is coming up as #2 Gordy puts up a good solid challenge against Tenryu two further establish himself. ***1/4"
[9.0] "Another stunning match in Genichiro's Triple Crown championship run. Terry gets the opportunity to prove himself and try out as a main eventer, and unlike Dan Spivey, fully justifies it. It was a wild duel in which Tenryu again had to survive, but this time in his path is a young and hungry Gordy who agrees to play this game and attacks him with all the ferocity. I liked how Mr. Pro Wrestling got this win, and the combination with enzuigiri and kick from a prone position made me feel the coolness of the champion. The kick-out after the finisher was a shock to me, but Gordy fully deserved it. Great match (****1/2)."
