[3.0] "For god, they had time to build this rivalry, and it had good reasons and everything, but this match, felt like Virgil was trying more to box, and it felt like out of please on some places, the slow rhythm it's not my style for something like this at all, 3/10 [**]"

[3.0] "[1.5*] I don't think this was THAT bad at all. The action was pretty basic but the crowd was hot for Virgil and they were reacting to all his strikes. The Piledriver was a cool nearfall too. Piper's antics were kinda funny specially when he made DiBiase fall off the ring with his crutches, resulting in a count-out win for Virgil that I didn't like but whatever. They had a whatever (again) post match brawl and that was it. Obviously not a good match but it wasn't ridiculously bad either."

[4.0] "It wasn't that bad. Basically centred around Piper's appearance and in this case it was a proper decision."

[4.0] "This was focused on the antics of Piper outside of the ring, and it's better for it. Virgil is not a good wrestler, and they want this to stretch to SummerSlam, so it was imperative that they hid how bad Virgil is at wrestling. They largely pulled that off here, and it resulted in a watchable match, which is really all you can ask for when Virgil is involved."

[4.0] "** (2/10) Another match for entertainment purposes. Luckily for WWF, they had one of the hottest crowds to any WrestleMania, that was pretty much wild for almost every fight on the card. It could have been that they shaved some time off of that one, as there were two more fights to go. Overall, the match was well executed in the ring, though a countout disqualification on a PPV show will never appease anyone. Not a sane fan, at least. I wonder how Donald Trump felt about this one."

[4.0] "Their SummerSlam match later in the year was much better, but this wasn't bad for a quick first match between the two and it set up future matches well. This feud was probably the peak of Virgil's singles career, unless you want to count his time in the nWo during WCW"
KingsCrossing wrote on 10.03.2024:
[4.0] "This got the job done, but it was probably the bare minimum that it needed to be to still work. It was probably for the best that they kept things short, because I don't expect going longer than this would have been in Virgil's best interest. For whatever it's worth he was inoffensive here, even if his punches need a bit of work. Piper was fun at ringside and the post-match angle with Sherri was interesting. I liked Virgil helping Piper out at the end, too - nice reversal of roles between the two. It wasn't really the big blow off you'd probably hope for at WM, but this was an effective enough way to continue the storyline and give Virgil a moment without making DiBiase look bad."

[3.0] "And here you have the definition of underdelivering. For a feud that you can say was literal years in the making, this match stunk up the joint. Considering how hot this feud was, and how personal it was, I feel like this match should have started hot. Virgil should have been taking DiBiase down trying to pound him. Instead, he throws some bad punches for far too long before DiBiase takes control. But the entire match is sluggish and lethargic in pace. You can tell they deflated the crowd. For the first minute or so, they're very into this, but after they see the pace and lack of fire by the competitors, they're barely whimpering for the rest of it. And then you have one of the lamest finishes ever. DiBiase just gets leisurely counted out while standing on the apron because he was dealing with Piper. You'd think this feud was so personal that Virgil wouldn't have WANTED a count out. You'd think he'd have wanted to BEAT DiBiase. That he'd pull DiBiase in, or stop the ref's count. But he just stands there and lets the count happen. To me, the best finish would have been a quick small package when Virgil was in trouble. have DiBiase solidly in control and about to put Virgil away, but maybe Piper distracts him and Virgil catches a quick one on him. There was no reason for this match to go like this. Honestly, this probably only deserves two points due to how much of a let down it was, but the feud was so hot, I settled on three."

[3.0] "This was fine. By this point, I was pretty over this show. This match was very hot because the story was pretty good, and believe it or not Virgil was actually over at this point. This match and story are ruined a bit I think by Virgil not getting the big title win here; even though he still gets it in the future this almost feels like a Summerslam '93 moment. A little disappointing this one."

[4.0] "Jesus Christ, Virgil was one of the most over guys in the business at one point, let that sink in. Unfortunately they wasted this and delivered a really unsatisfying match here and I don't agree that it's only Virgil's fault as there were so many possibilities to make this match interesting with simple tricks. A little nice comeback for Virgil would have been enough, but instead it was a basic bout that didn't match its heat. A shame, really."
BuddySchultz wrote on 17.11.2022:
[5.0] "I thought this match at least had some decent story elements (plus, Virgil's initial face turn was surely enough for at least some fan investment). It doesn't really pick up until DiBiase is on offence, and it momentarily morphs into something compelling, but then it just ends on a countout."

Dibiase ends up getting himself counted out by attacking Piper and Piper whacks him with the crutch after Virgil wins and then Sensational Sherri does a run in and helps Dibiase beat down Piper. Virgil makes the save and the feud continues. Sherri the opportunist hooks up with the Million $ Man."

[4.0] "This was alright but I really hated Virgil's silly dancing and MMA-like potatoes. Honestly, I think I found the match that inspired Shane McMahon to become a "wrestler" in the future! DiBiase did a good job at trying to put Virgil over regardless, but it would've been better had Virgil actually taken this seriously. [**]"
cactus wrote on 15.05.2021:
[4.0] "Even with all the working parts in place, Virgil chokes on the big stage. The fans were insanely hot for this entire Dibiase/Virgil break-up storyline and Piper being in Virgil's corner gave everyone even more of an excuse to cheer him. They remain over for him at this show, but the reactions die down once he takes control and the fans see that Virgil is just not that great of a wrestler. Piper antagonizes Dibiase and Virgil steals a countout win. It's fine, just not the pay-off that this incredible feud deserves. That satisfying pay-off would finally happen at Summerslam."
MagnusD wrote on 19.09.2020:
[4.0] "It could have been worse, but I think that the whole angle with DiBiase/Virgil was more impactful than any of their matches were. Virgil just wasn't that good of a wrestler, he could be alright with a good opponent but never wrestled an actual good match. This was no exception, but DiBiase tried his best and I think this was a success, even if the wrestling left a lot to be desired."
