[7.0] "A ***1/4 for me, but more on the 7 side with the cagematch grading. Had it been a bit longer it for sure would've gotten a highter rating from me."

[7.0] "Setting aside the post-match disaster, this is a fluffy but enjoyable match. Hector seems to be here to take revenge for his brother; he has a very different look and vibe to Chavo Sr, and some very enjoyable mannerisms ("Mexican" trills when kneeing Onita, for instance). He's an enjoyable if simple rudo, and this is, generally, speaking, about both men getting off their stuff and amping the crowd up on nearfall sequences. It's not just a spotfest - there is progression, the nearfall sequences are good - but there's no deep psychology, and you get some fairly classic early 80s AJPW Junior tics such as brawling on the outside, a move being hit, and the guy who's been hit seeming to have the advantage after. (Saying that, you actually see that tic in the 90s, too - Fuchi, Kroffat, and the Malenkoes scrupulously avoid it, but everyone else does it.) There is some great energy, some great moves, two very charismatic performers - that's the draw here. So this is highly enjoyable but has no greater structure or story than the most obvious elements. 3.5/5"

Hell, it still is now the way he comes down hard. The match itself was short, but great. The post-match angle is fantastic, but Onita's injury is the remembered moment here. Pretty much shutting the lid on his All Japan career save for one forgettable comeback next year."

[8.0] "Good match. Hector played into the heel heat and played it well. Guerrero was very dominant but Onita in the end pulls out the win. Lots of old school high flying that was enjoyable to watch. Post march was where the insanity happens. Guerrero does blade job. Onita in celebration jumps off the apron and suffers a bad knee injury that changes his career forever."

[7.0] "Onita is defending his NWA International Junior Heavyweight Championship here. I really liked what Hector brought to the table here as the heel determined to win the championship his brother lost from Onita, and ended up enjoying this more than any of the Onita/Chavo matches from 1982 that I've seen. In fact, this is up there with the December match with Steamboat as my favorite singles match from this era of Onita. There's a lot of good stuff here. Sadly, Onita suffers a major knee injury after the match when he slips on the wet apron. And thus, his destiny is forever altered. ***1/2"
