[6.0] "This match is not the worst of all time, yet fans in Mexico absolutely hated it. HOWEVER they didn't hate it just because they hate AAA, they did it because of the underwhelming finish that it got. Making a comparison, remember the moment Roman beat Undertaker in WM33, or imagine a parallel universe where Cody lost to Roman in WM40. That's more or less what happened in this match. Psycho Clown had a character that tended to win everything, similar to a 2010s "Super Cena" character, thus connecting with the children in the crowd. And also, coming from the Alvarado family, his success was almost always granted in the business. You get the idea on why people in Mexico weren't very fond of him. And then what did they get in return? Psycho unmasking non other than Dr. Wagner Jr, arguably one of the greatest, most beloved Mexican wrestlers of his generation, with a large fan base and close to an icon in his country. They tried passing him the torch, but Psycho wasn't ready for a victory like that. Wagner's reputation was damaged for the rest of his career and the crowd never forgot that result, for the worse."
[9.0] "The main event delivered which was a relief. This had a big match feel and it started slowly to build up the crowd anticipation. Match tells a great story with fast paced good lucha action. Very much felt like a passing of the torch moment at the end."
[8.0] "The first third of this had me worried. It looked like they really didn't have enough for a 28min+ match with the incessant stalling from Wagner Jr along with a literal stroll through the crowd as key highlights. Once you hit Psycho's comeback though, and individually he was great bell-to-bell, we were off to the races. The match was great from that point on, with the crowd taken on a captivating journey. Cut this down to 20, and it's an all time classic. Instead, it's still pretty damn great."
[10.0] "There's nothing quite like Mask vs. Mask matches in terms of atmosphere, but bell-to-bell was also a great match. This match felt big, important and memorable, I hope there will be matches in 2022 that will capture a feeling that this match was able to capture."
[9.0] "A modern classic bloody Lucha brawl. Wagner puts in a hell of a performance. As the older guy facing the guy on top, it seemed obvious Wagner was losing his mask but he puts in a great effort to show how desperate he is to keep a hold of it."
[7.0] "It's a pretty fun AAA-style brawl with everything you'd expect. Although it left something to be desired for me with the match itself, you have to respect that they're able to make it all feel so important and historical. There are real consequences and a real reason to be invested and care about the result."
[9.0] "Mexican fans hated this because they hate AAA, but fans from abroad dig this because the match itself was well structured, Wagner did a fantastic job gaining the heat of the live crowd and Psycho, while I concerned he'll get into a rutinary type of match, did also really good in here with his comeback. For me, a lucha libre match that gains s many praises from fans outside Mexico, can't be bad. For me it's easyly one of the best main event AAA has ever had and the match that made Psycho Clown."
[9.0] "The first time I really got lucha. Any other attempts at watching it wasn't really hitting the mark for me. Now, to be fair, the stuff I watched wasn't great anyway. It was mostly the other Triplemania events which weren't great prior to this show and LU which I'm not totally fond of. So here I am, just finishing watching Floyd vs Conor go 10 rounds, turn back over just in time for the main event. It's 4am or around that so I'm dead tired but the energy of the match was something else and woke me right up. The rest of the show didn't have the vibe this match did. The apuestas setting certainly helped. The brawling was great and very violent. Wagner diving in the crowd blew my mind at the time as brawling is fairly tame nowadays. The ripped masks, the blood, everything. You could feel the gravity of the situation. Wagner is desperate not to lose his long worn mask whereas Psycho Clown, the hot product of the time, is deseperete to hold on to that. The nearfalls were nail-biting and gripping. ****1/2"
