[3.0] "The Spirit Squad couldn't possibly get over. Not before this match, not after. And I don't exactly mind giving the aging vets the titles for a little transitional nostalgic pop. But if you are going to do that, the vets should at least be able to make both the team they are beating and the team they are going to drop the titles to look good. That did not happen. Piper is out of shape, and while I don't use that as a strike or jab against him, he clearly wasn't in a position to be holding a belt and getting someone else over. His selling is still pretty good at this age, but that was about it. He was in there just to take the heat spot and make the hot tag to Flair who is trying to keep the match together. So you had a heel team no one cared about, and a babyface team that the audience pitied because their age was showing so much. And granted, I've seen worse aging vets coming back for one offs, but this was still kind of sad. They had probably the best match they could have with these circumstances and it still sucked. Neither team got over, and I don't think the Hall of Famers got the level of reaction the company was expecting either. Nothing to see here at all."

[3.0] "As if The Spirit Squad wasn't already buried enough with that awful gimmick, they had to sell for Piper who was in a horrendous shape at this stage and I don't blame him, but Jesus Christ, don't make him go toe to toe with young guys in a good shape, let alone put him over. The immersion was ruined from the start and the match wasn't even that exciting to cover up for it."

[2.0] "It was not as terrible as some of the returning legends matches but still pretty bad and continued the end of the spirit squad"

[3.0] "A match that was pretty rough to watch as a Piper fan but it was fun to see him hold up the title at the end. I always thought Kenny's leg drop looked really good and after the match Dusty Rhodes made it seem like he was probably the better choice for being Flair's partner in this situation. 2 stars."

I don't think it was a bad decision to give them belts - anyway, they were transitional champions and lost to the right opponents, and it was just nice to see Ric and Roddy, with a really rich history, back together in the same ring. Legends remembered the past and it was just a nice nostalgic moment."

[4.0] "It wasn't a great match from a technical standpoint, but it was a fun moment to see Flair and Piper win the titles. Sometimes that's enough when you watch a wrestling show and you just want to see stuff that makes the fans happy. This worked as a fun moment. *3/4"
