I get the feeling that all four wrestlers involved knew there was no way they were going to top the Joe/Kobashi singles match from a night earlier so they don't even try to replicate the same formula here. And that's ultimately the right call -- instead, this match plays out more like a traditional heavy/junior vs. heavy/junior tag bout we used to get in NOAH all the time in its glory days. All four men get their best stuff in and there a quite a few really memorable spots and sequences sprinkled throughout the contest. It's actually WAY better than I remember it -- and in a year glutted with fantastic matches, it's still a somewhat hidden gem that's well worth going out of your way to catch if you've never seen it before. |

After Samoa Joe and Kenta Kobashi had an instant classic the night before, they came back for round 2 in a tag team match involving Low Ki and Homicide. Everyone gave it their all in this match, with some great back and forth between all men. The interplay between Low Ki and Kobashi was cool to see because I don't think they ever worked a match outside of this one. The crowd was on fire for this match, showing Kobashi a great deal of respect, something that Kobashi himself has said that he wasn't expecting and was very appreciative for. This was a worthy follow up to Joe vs Kobashi and is a highly recommended match. ****3/4 |

This match is the least bit about Kobashi, and revolves around the other three entirely. Which makes sense, if you want to build a feud (Ki and Joe were beefing, and Homicide was beginning to come into his own as a ROH main eventer), why not throw Kenta Kobashi in there' He's there anyway, right' Kobashi gets the "Suzuki in America" treatment where they'd sooner destroy a stained glass window before letting Kobashi look weak, so Homicide is the poor soul that absorbs practically every ounce of the punishment for his team. Low Ki & Samoa Joe share the suffering, but for the most part spend their time inflicting it on poor Homicide. Dave Prazak explains a bazillion times on commentary how rare it is for Low Ki & Joe to be teaming, which is true because they are large tag team rivals. Now that they're on the same side of the match, they're still trying to prove they're the bigger wrestler, and that's partially to their detriment. Again, Kobashi might as well not exist here. He's here to make the hot tag, do some chops, and win. Homicide does bail him out at the end, which is great. It shows that he's ready to ascend to the real main event scene because, as good as Kobashi is, he would've been done for if Homicide wasn't there. It's a good match to build towards the future, but it's underwhelming when ROH peaked one night earlier. |

Unlike the night before, there is newfound respect between these two titans of professional wrestling. And that story is told as much by what doesn't occur as it is by what does. From the opening moments of their exchange, including Kobashi refusing to let Homicide start the match and directly challenging Joe to share the ring with him once more, I was hooked. And then, when they both refuse to go for the slaps / chops that marked the beginning of the previous night's war... Magic was officially underway. Joe picks things up with a fantastic sequence. Kobashi responds by initiating an exchange of Knife Edge Chops that would make Tomohiro Ishii cringe. And so the tone was set for one of the most physical tag team matches imaginable. Low Ki and Homicide, the Junior Heavyweights of this match, attempt to prove themselves to Kobashi in their respective manners. Low Ki wants to go right at Kobashi, as evidenced by his initial Chop and then respectful request for a grappling exchange. Homicide aspires to do the same by encouraging the master of the Burning Lariat to tag him in and provide an opportunity to prove himself. Kobashi, a legend of the highest order, shows just how honored he is to be in any ring in the world by enthusiastically cheering his partner on. It's a pretty surreal environment in the early goings, and the match itself delivers from there on out. I don't want to spoil anything further, as I simply aimed to provide a foundation for what my interpretation of the story was, but I will say this: I absolutely adored seeing pure babyface Kenta Kobashi react in a shocked manner to Homicide poking Samoa Joe in the eye and then adapting his own style to his partner's tactics as the match proceeded. Absolute legend. An absolute joy to watch. 4. 5 stars, 9 out of 10. |

The magic might be gone, but Kobashi brings his working boots on and puts in a very physical performance and not just go on autopilot mode and rehash the same spots they did during their first legendary meeting. He ends up eating a vile-looking Backdrop Driver and sells it like death, crumbling to the ground as he tries to keep himself conscious. He even busts out the big guns such as Jackknife Powerbomb and the Orange Crush, before putting Low-Ki to bed with his trusty Lariat. This was good stuff, with a finishing stretch that wouldn't look out of place on a big mid 90s AJPW main event. |

Kobashi jedenfalls zeigt erneut seine Stiffness und Joe und Low Ki wissen damit umzugehen. Homicide nimmt alleine aufgrund der Konstellation hin und wieder zu sehr die "Opfer-Rolle" ein, aber das ist dann doch jammern auf sehr hohem Niveau. Ich jedenfalls wurde sehr gut unterhalten! |

Die Atmosphäre in der Halle hat gestimmt, der Matchaufbau an sich war auch gut: Es ging relativ ruhig los und wurde zum Ende hin immer stiffer. Dass es nicht die volle Punktzahl gibt, liegt einzig und allein an den beiden "Finger to the Eyes" Homicieds gegen Joe. Die hatten meiner Meinung nach in dem Match nichts zu suchen, waren aber aufgrund des ansonsten perfekten Matches schnell vergessen. |
