The crowd are definitely hot for it, particularly with the tease of Hogan vs Rock II, but its simply a case of too much as the atmosphere gets sucked out of the arena. Hogan does have his big comeback moment and even lands the leg drop but Brock kicks out of one of the most protected finishing moves of all time with ease. Even the finish of the match where Hogan was locked in a bear hug and passes out felt very symbolic when in pretty much any other match with this spot the hand does not go down the third time and he starts hulking up and makes a big comeback. Even Paul Heyman in this match looks like the voice of reason, when in every other match he's the one manipulating. This is the WWE version of Apollo Creed vs Ivan Drago. It's an animalistic performance from Brock as he goes over huge. |

You have the past with the immortal Hulk Hogan competing against the future in the next big thing Brock Lesnar. The match does a great job working around that dynamic with the story being that Brock Lesnar is the better of the two, but Hulk Hogan's veteran instincts and will are almost enough to get the victory. It's told well and both workers look great. Hulk Hogan isn't doing canadian destroyers or anything, but he does the little things very well and keeps up a good pace for 10 minutes. ***3/4 |

Das hier fühlt sich viel mehr wie eine Staffelstabübergabe an, als Hogans Matches gegen Rocky, HBK oder Orton. Semi-melancholische Story, eiskalt serviert. |

Instead of pinning him, he decides to lock in a bear hug. The fans were expecting for Hogan to hulk up once again, but Hulk bleeds from the mouth and is unable to make the referee's count. Lesnar brutalizes Hogan after the bell and the show goes off air as Lesnar wipes Hogan's blood onto his own chest. Has Hogan ever put over anyone as cleanly as he did for Lesnar here' Even Warrior didn't get a rub as big as Lesnar got here! Lesnar not only kicked out of a leg drop, but he also defeated Hogan by submission! |

Neither man actually did that much due to Hogan's age (Brock setting up the announce table for a spot only to have no payoff was funny) but Hogan never needed to do much to get a crowd invested in him. He dropped elbows, punched, hit the boot 3 times, dropped the leg, and kind of sold a few times and that was all he needed to make the crowd believe he could win. Brock played his role great though, character work coming through more than anything physical, although I loved him dropping elbows on Hogan to mock him. Heyman meanwhile is screaming BROCK PUT HIM AWAY NOW, HE'S DIFFERENT which is both hilarious and really good storytelling. Of course Brock doesn't pin Hogan and makes him pass out after a distraction by Heyman lead to an F5-Bearhug combo, but that's pretty damn clean by Hogan loss standards, and Brock kicked out of the leg drop too. This worked; it didn't really do anything interesting other than the names being across from each other in a singles match, but it worked. *** |

The crowd is red hot for Hogan here and they milk it extensively before the first lock up. As you would expect for Hogan in 2002 he is very slow and limited, but they do a good job of working around his weaknesses, and do a great job feeding off the crowd. The finish did a great job of putting over Lesnar, and the post match with Lesnar painting himself with Hogan's blood really put it over the top. |
