[8.0] "Match of the night and it's not even close. This match saved night 1 from being the worst wrestling show possibly of all time. Seth and Gunther put on a banger here which was expected from the start. I didn't think anything here was next level and that ending with Bron Breakker was predictable and stupid which is why it's not higher. In a way I guess this was a little disappointing because it was a match with no build up and when's there's no build up, you have to make that up with a 5 star classic especially when it's at WrestleMania and especially when the two people in the match are constantly told to us they are the best in ring performers in the business and this match just wasn't that unfortunately. It was great but not 5 stars. Overall I really liked this but I expected better honestly."

[8.0] "The Match of the night by a good mile. It was a hard-hitting brawl nearing a slugfest at times and it didnt focus more on aesthetic rather on the ferociousness and stiffness. Both competitors tested each others limits and the strength, endurance and toughness of the individuals was on full display. The resentment and disdain for one another was vividly evident as well such as inflicting pain and damage on their adversary at the expense of even their own bodily harm. A very risky trade at times. When it felt like the momentum had swayed in Rollins favor, it was Bron who would eventually interfere turn the tables allowing Gunther to synch in the sleeper and put Rollins to sleep. ****"

[9.0] "I really, really enjoyed this match. I did expect this match to bang, but not this much. This kinda saved some of WrestleMania Night 1 from being a night filled with mediocre wrestling. It was brutal, technical, and just awesome. I think the interference kinda made me dock a point. I know that it was a big thing that Breakker is back, but I think it would have been nice to have a fully clean match between these two. It did get a decent amount of time. I do wish it would have gotten at least a couple of more minutes, but beggars can't be choosers. My spot of the match had to be the Pedigree on the table to Gunther that made me pop. Rollins keeps finding ways to make the Pedigree look smoother and smoother as the years progress. The Stomp to the table also looked really brutal. Overall, a really good, technical match that made me very happy. [****3/4]"

[10.0] "This match was amazing, I mean this was genuinely an awesome match. I knew this was gonna be good, but holy shit this was way better than I thought. Gunther attacked Seth before the bell even ringed. Seth managed to fight back and started destroying Gunther. Seth just started throwing chairs at Gunther, that just made me laugh. The bell finally rang and both delivered brutal boots to one another. Seth delivered nasty stomps to the head of Gunther, Rollins tried the stomp, but Gunther hit a nasty clothesline. Both then started chopping and slapping one another. Gunther literally delivered the stiffest sounding chops. Gunther tried a suplex from the second rope, but Rollins counters into a power-bomb into the turnbuckle. Both were just hitting with each other with everything they got, they once again got in a brutal chop exchange. Gunther delivered a power-bomb and only got a two. Gunther tried a clothesline, but Seth smoothly reversed into a pedigree, but Gunther countered his counter. Seth hit the stomp on Gunther but he managed to kick-out. Rollins tried to roll Gunther up, but Gunther locked in a sleeper hold. Gunther went to the top rope but Rollins hit a suplex from the top rope and hit a falcons arrow only for a two. Seth hit three suicide dives, but Gunther countered the last one into a power-bomb onto the apron, Gunther wanted to power-bomb on the table, but Rollins countered with a Pedigree on the table and Seth then ran from one table onto Gunther with a stomp. Bron Breakker returning was great, but I wish it happened after the match. Gunther locked in the sleeper and wins the match.{wrote on 19.04.2026}"

[8.0] "One of the least built matches of the show with an ending that people have been predicting since it first got announced, and it was absolutely impeccable. Seth and Gunther have phenomal chemistry and the action was as dense as tungsten. The perfect balance of Gunther's insurmountable ring presence, and Seth's hope to survive. The ending was obvious since WWE doesn't book people to lose clean when recovering from Injury, and Gunther's first non-title singles lost wasn't going to be in a nothing feud against an established act.Despite how these factors would weigh pretty heavily on most matches, these two know how to hook you into the story and buy into the magic of wrestling. This was the only match of night one that felt like a Wrestlemania match."

This match stood out even more because the show itself was mediocre overall. Even though the rivalry initially came out of nowhere, I really liked the way it was handled and how this match was built to showcase both men while also allowing the long-awaited return of Bron Breakker. As for the in-ring work, there's honestly nothing to complain about, it was excellent."

This is great for all three guys, it keeps Gunther's profile high for winning, and hopefully it will give us the Rollins and Bron Breaker feud we should of got instead. Very enjoyable and loved every bit of it."

The Vision is probably one of the worst factions in WWE history. I used to think Judgement Day was the worst faction in modern WWE. I also agree that Gunther's booking is really at a dead end and going nowhere. He just keeps winning and burying careers, but he gets nothing out of it. But anyway, this was the best match of the show."

[8.0] "This matchup definitely has way more potential but they failed to achieve it. Not giving them extra 5-10 mins, Bron's interference and also repetitive moves which most of it were slow and sluggish were some of the negatives of this match. Seth choosing to fight in Gunther's style made this fight less interesting for me especially with Gunther not even using half of his bag and that too in a fight to prove he is the greatest pro wrestler. A lot of missed opportunities here which could potentially make their next fight way better. Bell-to-bell I'd rate this match a 7.5/10 but I liked brawl segment before the start so I'm going with 8/10."

Just as it was about to hit the next level and fully break down into a war, the finish with Bron Breakker cut it off prematurely. It felt like it needed just a bit more time and escalation to become something special. Instead, it ends up being "just" a very good match."

[8.0] "Awesome match. It got to that four-star level in my opinion. They are two of the best in-ring performers who wrestled a fast-paced match early on, then it slowed down, and they hit big moves. Those crowd reactions to the Sleeper show that the move that Gunther has won some big matches has a lot of credibility with the fans. As for the Bron Breakker appearance costing Seth Rollins, if you read my preview, then you know I called it. Just saying. Anyway, I hope we get a Gunther-Rollins rematch again soon. I'm glad that they got nearly 20 minutes because this match needed that. It was even longer with the action before the bell rang."

[6.0] "Yea I don't know why this match has a significantly higher rating than the rest of the card when it's maybe slightly before for physicality. I'm assuming it's because this is one of the two matches that got a decent amount of time to build and the rivalry was pretty surface level so nothing felt disappointing. I don't really enjoy Seth Rollins matches these days but this was close to being great as Gunther seems to have a habit of forcing guys into having a match that actually feels like a fight seemingly against their own will. Whenever Gunther is running the show it's about as hard hitting and raw as you'd expect from him at this point. Rollins tries to meet him walf way there by returning some stiff chops and forearms but when it comes to the big moves Seth still feels gun shy. Rollins consistently feels like he's mimicking pro wrestling and not actually commiting to the bit which a lot of the guys on the roster do but given Seth's reputation it's much more of an annoyance when he doesn't commit. It is weird though that this match was forced together because their respective opponents weren't cleared yet Rey Mysterio would wrestle in the ladder match the next day and Bron Breakker appears in this very match looking more than capable of getting through a match."
GenerationalCreator wrote on 23.04.2026:
[7.0] "[3.5*] - The best match of Saturday night (not that it was difficult, honestly). Seth Rollins, despite being widely hated in the community, ends up being a perfect wrestler for WWE, a workhorse who is put in matches and does all his work focused on pleasing WWE fans, and he's 100% right, the fans were excited. He and GUNTHER had a good brawl even before the match started, perhaps the first time, as far as I remember, that GUNTHER attacked someone before the match began, after all, this time it was something personal and not just business, which ends up being a good move by the Ring General weakening Rollins before he could warm up for the match. I'd say that on RAW this match could be better evaluated and adored, clearly below the level they themselves can deliver, and everything here served up a future match between the two and the return of Bron Breaker, which I honestly thought was very weak. If it had been done with Rollins destroyed after the match, with Bron coming in like a runaway locomotive from which Rollins was so exhausted he couldn't escape, it would have been much better. The ending was weak, GUNTHER just returned to the ring and won by putting Rollins to sleep with the Rear Choke."
Imperador wrote on 23.04.2026:
[5.0] "I can't understand why everyone is getting excited about this match when the match itself is good, but the ending is horrible. Bringing in Bron when you could have finished the match clean is disgusting. WWE is losing its balls by doing an interference a clean match would have allowed this to be perfect. The worst part is that the next day, in a match (Roman vs Punk), where we thought there would be interference like The Usos, there was none, and in the end the match tells a story and becomes legendary. This match becomes shitty because they could have done much better with the ending."

The overall match itself was just a great RAW main event, nothing too crazy from the two of them here but still pretty good. Seth Rollins' passion really stood out here, he is not a very good wrestler but you know for absolute certainty his Mania match is going to be good."

I didn't even mind the unnecessary run-in ending. All-in-all, this was a fine Wrestlemania match, if not a great one."

[9.0] "This match was great in terms of just the wrestling quality of the match. It was definitely the best match of night one by far. Everything about it was great besides one part and that was the ending. I would've loved for this match to end in like a Gunther, choking out Rollins and Rollins passing out. Than when Rollins wakes up and goes to exit the ring, that's when bron breaker spears him. Not this interference that actually happened hence why I'm not giving it a 10. outside of the ending This match was amazing. I loved every part of it, two amazing wrestlers just going at each other. The buildup also could have been better."
mikewillruhl03 wrote on 21.04.2026:
[8.0] "This match certainly had the potential to be a Mania all-timer, even if it was cut short and thrown together at the last minute. This was Rollins' first match in six months and he really delivered great in-ring action against the Ring General. The technical foundation of this match was very solid and led to suspenseful exchanges between the two. Pedigree on top of the announce table by Rollins, but the table doesn't break and a Stomp follows. Bron Breakker returns to take out Seth, but he immediately loses to Gunther. This ending would have been better perceived if this wasn't the only actually good match on the show up until when it got cut short. Underdelivering yet again but this held up night one a little bit. Rating: ****"

Man, that the worst match I saw from Gunther that year, Rollins gave him shit. Rollins' fighting spirit sequences sucks, it is like Ospreay doing it with like 60 years old and both knees cooked. Somethings here worked, yeah, it was good, and the match it was starting to get into a point that everything was feeling good, even with the spreading up of finishers. The ending was lame, but overall, it was a good wrestling match. Decent. You can watch. Can try to enjoy."

Kugenesan1 wrote on 21.04.2026:
[8.0] "No doubts in anyone's minds that this was going to be a great match. I somehow just realized this was a dream match that these two had never wrestled in a singles match. So I guess the stars aligned well. Instant chemistry between them both and the fans felt it too. Hearing Symphony played in the biggest wrestling stage felt so good. Bron returning was a given but definitely was not expecting him to run a yard to spear Seth. To many more show stealers to come between Gunther and Seth. The only hiccup if I may add would be, someone at the upper rankings tapping out to the sub instead of passing out."

It's nothing really ground breaking, Gunther cannot take a pedigree to save his life and the interference while cool and makes good storytelling makes the match feel more like an introduction to a long running feud than some sort of climax. Maybe could've done without the interference but I get it was to set up Seth vs Bron so I don't mind too much. Could've gone longer as well maybe but that's just me being greedy I think."

[7.0] "[7.5/10] match was great 8.5/10 but coz of the stupid scenario by Brekker I give it 7.5/10 The World Heavyweight Championship clash between The Ring General, Gunther, and Seth "Freakin" Rollins was a masterclass in contrasting styles. This match lived up to the hype, delivering a high-stakes encounter that blended Rollins' innovative athleticism with Gunther's legendary, bone-breaking efficiency. The match was built on a foundation of excellent psychology. Gunther dominated the early portions, grounding Rollins with punishing chops and grueling power moves that echoed throughout the stadium. Rollins, playing the resilient underdog, relied on his "Big Game" experience, countering the champion's brute force with high-flying maneuvers and lightning-fast sequences. The tension peaked during several near-falls that had the crowd on their feet, showcasing a level of fluidity and timing that was missing from other matches on the card. It was a grueling, beautiful display of professional wrestling that reminded everyone why these two are considered the gold standard of the industry."

As much as I have been EXTREMELY annoyed by every match being short and having an interference, Bron's interference in this match fit in extremely well with this match. I just wish there was an actual build-up to this match and, much like every other match tonight, it went on for longer. (****.5)"

I loved the intense, aggressive, and fast-paced style they used, great intensity, great sequences, great constant rhythm, it was non-stop for 17 minutes of wrestling, hurting each other and looking for that opportunity to finish each other off. Perhaps the only flaw is Bron's interference, but even that was necessary because they had to go back to Rollins vs. The Vision, so Rollins couldn't lose cleanly and Gunther couldn't lose again at WrestleMania or now because he'll probably go for the world title. A very great ending, after Seth managed to hit a Pedigree through a table and then a Stomp, also through a table, Bron appeared and hit a Spear, giving Gunther time to recover and he took advantage of Rollins's damage and distraction to finish him off with a Sleeper Hold. Winning the match, a great fight and the only one worthwhile on this first night of WM 42"

I enjoyed the brawl at the start between the two and they paced the match very well, just kinda got a bit sloppy and boring at times. The only thing holding this match back from an 8 or higher score was the Bron interference. We were all expecting it but 1. i dont see a guy like Gunther needing help to beat Seth freakin and 2. you could have definitely done the run in after the match ended. Seth is already low on guard after losing to big gunt then BOOM Bron out of nowhere, would have been much more enjoyable that way."

The change in quality from a good portion of the Wrestlemania card to this is stark. They had much more time than most matches which was an unfortunate theme this year, but honestly I wish they had gone a little longer. I was enjoying the anger and expressions from Seth charging at Gunther to how Gunther kept swatting him down only for him to keep getting pushed to his limit. It was a much needed change on a Wrestlemania Night 1 that was unfortunately lackluster."
[9.0] "Hell yeah, this ruled and was without a doubt the MOTN. I really liked that they had Seth and Gunther brawl before the match to really sell this story so it wasn't just a match for the sake of a good one. The match itself was great as you'd expect. Seth very much worked a Gunther style match rather than a Seth style match. Lots of reversals and great sequences, with Gunther's counter to the pedigree being my favorite one. Seth hit his vintage 3 suicide dives, only to be countered by an excellent apron bomb. Seth's stomp on Gunther on the table looked NASTY too. I wish that Bron didn't interfere though. Gunther beat John Cena and AJ Styles clean, him needing help to beat Seth Rollins (Who he himself admitted he wasn't 100%! ) did make him a bit weak, but I was enjoying the match so much that it didn't hurt my enjoyment of the match. Just something I would've preferred to be done a little differently. Fantastic stuff here. ****1/4"

It had an awkward start, where there was a brawl in the beginning before the bell and then both wrestlers somehow awkwardly ended up on the opposite side of the ring while outside of the ring. The match itself seemed more like two guys doing a slug fest which was enjoyable with mainly Gunther in control of most of the match and the match had a good false finish with the curb stomp by Seth Rollins having Gunther kick out at a good 2.9 count. Followed by a controversial finish that was expected to make Seth continue to look strong as Seth had the upper hand towards the end of the match Bron Breakker returned as I would imagine most people thought he would including me to cost Seth the match against Gunther which I thought was ultimately good and made a lot of sense. Considering this match had very little build leading up to it I thought I was a good match nonetheless."
