The story of Pitbull targeting the neck was fine and the piece of broken table being used as a weapon looked clean, however Pitbull shat the bed here and gave this match the rightful honour of being the worst on the card."

The crowd showed total apathy towards both men and only woke up to chant misogynistic insults at Francine. The storyline that this match was built on was legitimately compelling, unfortunately Pitbull #2 has zero aura and Shane Douglas isn't much better."

" For this show it's making Pitbull #2 wrestle for 20 minutes. Shane Douglas sucks here too and they get booed and chanted boring by the ECW crowd in what was a pretty hot angle going into this with the Pitbull neck break and Rick Rude debut angle. The post match saves it from a complete zero with the well done Rick Rude appearance that finally wakes the crowd up."

Definitely a slower paced matchup and did have moments that did not look good at times. Moment of the match seemed to be Gary Wolfe jumping the guardrail to get involved. We want blood chant shows is the least surprising chant I have heard. Got sloppier towards the end."

The crowd alternating between Pitbull chants and just chanting boring is really funny. Both lads seem absolutely gassed a third of the way into the match and don't gel at all when trying to actually wrestle and that's funny. The fact they put this on after that 6 man tag and let it go on for 20 minutes is very funny. The ending is funny. That table spot to the outside killed me. Absolute train wreck but not without charm."

This literally felt like Pitbull's first match in the wrestling school, including the atmosphere - he was awkward with his movements, his timing was awful and his punches were horrendous. Also it obviously didn't help that it was the ECW show and fans had to see some furniture, because otherwise they wouldn't fall asleep at night, but even then the work was just atrocious."

[8.0] "The first ECW PPV continues... this match has a lot of low ratings, the primary criticisms being that the pace is too slow and the match too long, running just over 20 minutes. I can see this point of view but I actually quite liked this match. Part of it is likely that it was built up very well. The Pitbulls, simply called Pitbull #1 & #2 most of the time, were a long standing team in ECW, but their success was cut short when "The Franchise" Shane Douglas, first ECW champion under the "Extreme" banner, broke the neck of Pitbull #1. Ever since then they have been at war, culminating here in a major grudge match. The match started with a big blast of energy as the powerful Pitbull slammed Douglas around, fired up by his desire for revenge. The match did then settle into a slower pace as both men tried to attack the neck of the other, but I thought it was well done, some really wrenching attacks that looked painful as hell. There is more than a bit of hardcore action as well, with Douglas taking a pretty great table bump over the ropes to the floor at one point and in other wild moment Douglas chucking an entire guard rail out of the ring down onto Pitbull's head. I think it's a match that benefits a lot from having followed the build up, if you watched this cold I don't think it would be as good. With a wide variety of dirty tricks Shane Douglas was able to escape with his title intact, but he received further comeuppance after the match. Far from perfect but I enjoyed it."

I can confidently say this is the worst ECW match I've watched in my life and I have watched every single ECW show minus a few hardcore TV's. I'd rather watch Super Summer Sizzler Spectacular 93 in its entirety then watch this ONE match again"

It gets off to a fine enough start when Pitbull #2 comes out and starts brawling immediately and then it just peters out very quickly! Pitbull gasses very quickly and the weapon spots look even worse than Lance Storms attempts at RVD earlier in the show! Fans turn on this very quickly and unfortunately not much of anything happens for 20 minutes. What a horrible way to follow that Michonoku pro classic!"

This coming after the Michi Pro six-man was hilarious."

[3.0] "The match was slow and went way too long. It started off great with Pitbull #2 rushing to the ring and attacking Shane and then the bell rings.. I dont get how you start a match in a brawling fashion and then immediately start doing rest holds for a few minutes which completely kills the crowd. They try to get the crowd hot again with 3 piledrivers in a row but it had been too late. When you have other amazing and more charismatic wrestlers and matches on the show this will just not hold up. This match probably wouldve held up in the territory days but this was 1997 and it didnt hold up well."

[2.0] "This had a hot angle going into this, with Douglas breaking Pitbull #1's neck. It's such a shame that the match we got here was so bad. I've liked what I've seen from Pitbull #2 so far, but this was a completely exposing performance that saw him gas up and stinks the place out with a 20-minute snoozefest. The longer this went, the worse it got. Pitbull hits a fallaway slam through a table in a failed attempt to wake up the crowd. Douglas attempts to drop Pitbull groin first onto a guardrail, but Pitbull is so exhausted he can't get himself up for it. They attempt to break each other's necks by locking on tight facelocks, but they never actually go anywhere interesting with this idea and it's eventually forgotten about as the match goes on. They attempt to redo the Heatwave '95 finish, with Pitbull kicking out of every gimmick Douglas throws at him and looking like a total badass as a result, but the crowd is so burnt out by this point and Pitbull is too tired to show any energy with his comebacks. At least we get a cool post-match angle with Rick Rude and Brian Lee for suffering this trainwreck."

This was slow and dull - Douglas was OK with a competent opponent but wasn't really capable of carrying a bad one to something interesting. The worst thing is there was nothing particularly extreme about this match, which might have made it better. The post match cameo by Rick Rude is the only worthwhile part of the match."

In no world should Pitbulll #2 be given 20 minutes in a singles match and Shane Douglas is definitely not good enough to carry him. The crowd is dead until the post-match stuff with Rick Rude"

The Pitbulls are awesome tag guys, but not singles. The Rick Rude fake out was cool."
Ma Stump Puller wrote on 23.06.2021:
[4.0] "Extremely boring and plodding. Douglas tries to insert the storyline of trying to break the neck of the other Pitbull by focusing a lot on neck work and pacing the match around that, which is pretty decent ring psychology. The issue? Pitbull DOESN'T SELL SHIT. Legit, he barely acts like any damage is being done to him and the money shot of the match with the clutch in front of the camera has him just look slightly annoyed. Some weak brawling and Douglas overbooking with interference spots and the need to sneak weapons into a hardcore match combined with Pitbull being painfully basic in the ring equals a really weak matchup. Crowd died a death watching this, and I can't blame them, the pacing was glacial. This should've been a trash brawl under 15 minutes with all of the fluff taken out. The fact that Douglas thought he was going to somehow get the heat after a amazing Michinoku Pro showcase with this is beyond reason."

[3.0] "Oh boy, this wasn't good. I saw what they wanted to do, with all the work on the neck of Pitbull #2, but this was too long. I know it was in the death spot after the spotfest from Michinoku Pro before, but they killed the crowd even more. Pitbull #2 is much better in a tag team configuration. Shane Douglas showed that even if he loved to call out Ric Flair or Shawn Michaels, he wasn't on their level when it comes to carrying a match."
