"This may be a dumb complaint, but when I see a match like this I ask a simple question. Why would I ever get in the ring? There's questionable techniques in a normal rumble, of someone ducking out and coming back later... But in this match, there was 0 reason to enter the ring until the final opponents. People might say "that's not how the story goes" or "that's not how it should work"... but exactly. I'm not going to say "This should be like WWE" but announcing everyone at once and then having people stand outside ONLY would work if you have a lottery that makes people required to enter the ring at certain points. OR have all 21 guys in the ring at one time. While there's too many people in the ring, (I agree) It just shows the issue. This WAS an absolute bedlam, it was VERY entertaining to watch live. The crowd was going wild. People were calling out Jack Perry early. And I assume it looked interesting on TV, it just seems a little strange from a higher level. The overall concept could work, but it needs a retooling. Either make it "King of the hill" where if someone stands in the ring for 10 seconds with no one else in the ring, he wins, or if someone is in the Ring for X time, he wins. The point being, that no matter how good or bad the match was, as a concept it falls flat and that makes the match weaker. I'd say 6/10 and that's being generous, And that 6 almost requires you to be in the arena. Home audiences would be lower."

RoseySplash97 wrote on 22.03.2026:
[2.0] "This absolutely stunk. Ricochet had completely dominated his feud with Jack Perry, so why did he have to defend it in a 21-man battle royal? And calling it a battle royal was ludicrous when most of the participants spent most of the match outside the ring. The match felt decidedly unserious and although I suppose they gave Jungle Boy a nice hometown win, it would have felt more significant if it'd been in a straight singles match where he gave Ricochet a comeuppance."

[4.0] "I was really confused why they spent so much time fighting outside of the ring if it's a battle royal it was just unnecessary chaos. the whole switch into the ppv thing is weird as well because it forces fans to pay to watch the end of the match. Jack Perry won here and I can't say I am too invested in the National title.**/5"
Smi-48 wrote on 21.03.2026:
[4.0] "Most of the Battle Royal takes place during the pre-show, where they mostly just go through the motions. At the start of the main show, the action then focuses primarily on the one-on-one phase between Perry and the reigning champion, with the former Jungle Boy coming out on top. But overall, this Battle Royal isn't exactly a must-see."
cadaves92 wrote on 21.03.2026:
[5.0] "Honestly, this was a complete clusterfuck. I much preferred when AEW did a 5 entrants at a time version, with a joker at 21. But by putting all 21 people at once, and beginning mostly outside the ring, this was utter chaos. Some enjoyable spots, but too much was going on for this to be enjoyable. Lastly, I CAN NOT STAND HOW THEY OVERLAP THE START OF THE SHOW WITH THESE MATCHES."
AfixXxe wrote on 21.03.2026:
[6.0] "Let's be honest. This match exists because Tony Khan likes to give something to wrestlers who have been left out of a pay-per-view, whether due to storyline, lack of space, or lack of relevance. I don't like the idea of a battle royal that starts and continues outside the ring, and while I can tolerate it, it shouldn't have been like that for the entire match. Instead, they could have called it a battle royal, I don't know. That said, I liked the performances of Lio Rush, Ciampa, Komander, and Ricochet; I think they stole the show. Bang Bang Gang and the Muņoz brothers also had their moments. But in my opinion, it's a crime not to put the entire match on Zero Hour, whether it was for TV strategy or because there wasn't enough time. And if they were going to make Jack Perry champion anyway, what was the point of a battle royal? I think a final between Ricochet and Jack Perry would have been better, since Perry didn't do anything until the end of the match, and it doesn't reflect well on him to have won that way."
JKOH95 wrote on 20.03.2026:
[8.0] "I usually love this kind of gimmicky multi-people matches. This was one of the better ones for sure. My favourite thing is how it avoided the issue of having people only coming for their signature move and getting eliminated later. Particularly AR Fox and Lio Rush got their time to shine, Rush looked very dominant and Juice showed up big time."

[2.0] "Sorry guys my brain exploded on this one. Not only did we start off like the TNA reverse battle royal. The people in the match were barely in the ring half the time. Then they would come in to get their shit in, and get t thrown over the top rope after being outside 90 percent of the time. Fucking stupid."

[6.0] "Fun little spotfest of a match. I struggle with battle royales in general because it can be hard to care when there are so many people essentially doing nothing all of the time, but this managed to be entertaining enough."
Eytexi wrote on 18.03.2026:
[5.0] "This was more entertaining than it was high-quality wrestling (honourable mention to Mortos, who literally just jumped out of the ring) or booking, with lots of highly underrated athletes getting their time on the big stage. A lot of competitors here who I was rooting for to take an upset victory, and I really appreciated them taking their time with this. The sequence which opened the main show went hard, and we landed on an inevitable final two. Great chemistry between the, but having Jack lose his previous challenges only to win in a Battle Royale isn't something I love. A lot of negatives, but this was undeniably entertaining. I'm on the fence about it."
EmoForkliftDriver wrote on 18.03.2026:
[6.0] "First off the booking of AEW battle royales are fundamentally broken. Starting with everyone on the outside is some 2007 TNA bullshit and fucks with the kayfabe logic. Why would you even enter the ring before anyone else it gives you a clear disadvantage. Granted it fills the match with more action than a battle royale would usually have and it makes the match length more plausible but it also makes it incredibly confusing as to who's still in the match. That being said I had fun during this. Before everyone gets in the pool we are treated to some great aerial assaults from AR Fox, Komander and Lio Rush. Once everyone's in the ring the match struggles to gain its footing but then those same three guys have some great exchanges, all of them wrestling like they're trying to get booked. We got some good eliminations with Katsuyori Shibata nonchalantly eliminating Dralistico and Daniel Garcia unmasking Komander to eliminate him. We also got some questionable eliminations with Beast Mortos full sending himself over the top rope and Rush getting eliminated twice but I will say Rush was crazy over here as was Dalton Castle. The match came down to Ricochet and Jack Perry Predictably which was a good final two but not very inspired. My issue with the finish is mostly with booking and not the match itself. Why have this big battle royale if you're just gonna revert to the same guys that have been feuding over the belt. Also if Jack Perry was gonna win the belt why were the matches booked in this order? Surely it'd be more impactful to have Ricochet win a battle royale and then lose the belt to the runner up at the next show. Tony likes to book in reverse I guess"

[6.0] "An interesting Battle Royal. Rather than the classic "everyone gets in the ring and brawls everyone out, " everyone started on the outside and eventually made their way in. It was really a "get your stuff in" type of match with interesting comedic and high-flying moments."
[4.0] "I hate the way AEW structures their battle royals. I get wanting the action but it makes it feel incredibly overbooked when everyone is just fighting on the outside. One positive I do have here is that LFI got a good showcase, which they've not exactly had the chance to do really. I'm not a fan of the winner either."
NikoKillbain wrote on 17.03.2026:
[7.0] "I was worked slightly here. I thought there was no way we'd see a title change, but the match eeking into the main card allowed that to happen. This had that awful format of people coming in and out at will. Fortunately, as a showcase, almost all the action was perfect barring two guys prone to mistakes, Rush and Ace Austin. The high-flyers took over, and Ciampa distinguished himself. They did mess up with Shibata and Rush though. Neither man was eliminated when we were told they were."

[5.0] "I honestly don't know why we keep seeing battle royales with more people fighting outside of the ring than in it. Rush is probably the most believable guy in AEW at being a hot-headed heel and he's got an energy that the people like. Outside of Rush, the final moments were okay. I liked that spot with Perry holding on from the sunset flip powerbomb position. They were taking a risk with that one."

A decent way to kick off the show, but it mostly felt like a clumsy attempt to cram as many people as possible onto the card. In-ring quality: 1.25/4. Stakes: 1.25/2. Justification: 0.5/1. PrivateEyeball wrote on 17.03.2026:

LeSynth wrote on 17.03.2026:
[3.0] "This match was genuinely a mess and a chore to get through all the way. You could barely tell who was in and out, you could tell people were just waiting for spots, and it being one of the longest matches of the night is just absurd. The cherry on top was Jack Perry getting his fourth title in AEW. Could've went with Rush, Bowens, Mortos, or even anyone fresh/new but went with Jack Perry."
GoldLiger wrote on 17.03.2026:

There's a bunch of neat spots with absolutely zero cohesion whatsoever besides being bookended by the Perry/Ricochet angle. Pretty much every single person in this match was great for what little role they had but it was basically a long highlight reel. ***"

[5.0] "Yeah it might of been a good way to get 21 people on the card and a nice moment in a sold out arena. But my god this was dull for the most part. Again AEW can't just do a battle royal normally why we even bother doing them just annoys me. Literally up until the final 2 this was such a nothing burger of a match that i was just waiting to be over. I will say the final 2 at least was pretty decent and some what made the match a little better but for the love of god it could of just been a 1v1. Overall a nice moment for jungle Jack but god this was a drag of a 20 minutes. (**1/2)"
TheWeekThatWasAEW wrote on 16.03.2026:
[8.0] "I rated it an 8.0 The battle royal crowd sprang to life when Scorpio Sky was introduced, giving him a big cheer, while El Clon and the Callis Family received little reaction on their way to the ring. Daniel Garcia was met with more jeers than cheers coming through the crowd, though Tommaso Ciampa still heard some support despite recently turning on Mark Briscoe, and Austin Gunn, Ace Austin, and Juice Robinson all got a warm reception. The arena truly erupted when Luchasaurus drove Jack Perry into the building on a Jurassic Park bus, and the reaction grew even louder when Perry handed his necklace to a young fan at ringside. The match quickly turned into a chaotic spectacle filled with high-flying action from Lio Rush, AR Fox, Komander, and Ricochet, with the crowd buzzing especially after Komander's incredible rope-walk twisting splash that wiped out nearly everyone in the ring. In the end, Jack Perry delivered a brutal poison rana to Ricochet on the ring apron to secure the victory and become the new National Champion."

[7.0] "Some really impressive moments, some funny and entertaining moments and a feel-good title switch to close it. AEW battle royals have sometimes been too frequent and often too dull, but this wasn't one of those. I have liked the way they have a PPV start mid-match every time they've done it too and this was no exception. In all cases they have done it for something which deserved to be on the main card, and Jack's specific dethroning of Ricochet fit that bill."
DENDY wrote on 16.03.2026:
[6.0] "I thought this was a lot of fun and really solid up until an annoying break in the action when the pre-show ended and main card began. On top of this the final stretch felt quite rushed, though after 22 minutes I do see why. A lengthy but enjoyable battle royal won by Jack Perry in a nice moment, just a shame about that last 5 minutes."

Even when LFI got involved later i enjoyed that. Fox and Lio Rush got some nice spots. El Clon proved his worth aswell. Very FUN, not a great match but very fun! Great final stretch and good that it bled over."

It sucks Ricochet did not get any good material to have a great reign because he is awesome. I did not like the Jack Perry feud so I am happy we at least are not being forced to watch another singles match."

[6.0] "It was such a chaotic match that I wished they'd take most of the wrestlers out of the ring so I could actually see what was going on. Honestly, I didn't like it very much--not because Jack Perry won the National Championship, but because there was so much chaos that the noise only served to try to mask the madness of the match. So that's it: Ricochet's reign is over. Actually, it wasn't that bad for a mid-card championship."
Reflected wrote on 16.03.2026:
[7.0] "In my opinion it was a good match. Obviously one of the issues is the winner; luckily it's a minor title, and I hope it leads to a good feud with Tommaso Ciampa. But honestly, I just can't bring myself to like Jack Perry as a singles wrestler. It's still a pre-show match, so of course nothing spectacular, but a good way to get everyone onto the PPV card, with some people making a really good impression such as Ace Austin, Daniel Garcia, Rush, and Mortos. Overall, I didn't dislike it."

The match itself was chaotic fun, but it was also a cluster fuck at points, especially when all were brawling on the outside. I kept losing track who's still in it and who was out. Lio Rush returned, but also debuted a new gimmick, which confused me but fascinated me as well. The ending sequence was great and the way Jack eliminated Ricochet with a reverse-rana. Jack winning was the right call."
