[10.0] "At the beginning of the match, the two wrestlers spat at each other to show that they had no respect for each other, and throughout the match, they proved their point by killing each other. The match was short, but everything you can think of happened in the match. Both wrestlers performed every move they could think of in and out of the ring, and the match was even dragged into the street, which was very interesting. The pace of the match was very high from start to finish, and the atmosphere in the hall was great, people were saying AC Dub from start to finish. The commentary was good, and one should not neglect it."
[7.0] "Solid match, but the tag they had against each other, partnered with Psychosis and La Parka, is much better; less 'extreme' and more luche libre high flying."
[7.0] "The first and second fall aren't much to write home about, but the match gets going when they're on the third fall. Loved the spot where Rey jumped over the ref into Juventud. It was cool to see them brawl in the parking lot, however, it feels like something tacked on rather than an organic sequence. He drags Juvy out there for 30 seconds to dump him on a car then immediately drags him back in."
"The third fall and post-match bit is nice, but the first two falls, good as they are, don't look like much out of the ordinary today. I think Rey's matches with Psicosis have this comfortably beat on the general intensity. These guys did better together elsewhere."
"Really solid match. It doesn't hold up to Dave's ***** rating, but it's a ****+ for sure. The story of the match is Rey having to throw bigger and bigger bombs at Juvi in order to get an advantage."
[6.0] "Spitting to start off with, used way too much. The grappling in the beginning feels a bit rudimentary and kind of forced, but I also appreciate the amount of grappling present in matches during this time, it makes everything else more impactful in general. They move on to different Headscissor variations, Rey hits Juvi with a Slingshot Moonsault to the outside and Juvi answers with a Brainbuster back inside. Juvi does a Springboard Frontflip Dropkick which looks like a botch, but the crowd likes it a lot. Rey's Apron Huracanrana on Juvi to the outside is botched as well. This feels like two teenagers just freestyling. Rey's iconic Somersault Dive to the outside over the ref is picture-perfect at least. They continue to bring out big move after big move, while improving with the execution. The 3rd fall is the best by far, with the pace and the action managing to reach breathtaking heights, though I question if the excursion to the parking lot of the ECW Arena added much to this bout. They set a table up outside, but the match finishes before they break it, so Rey just Powerbombs Juvi through it anyway to endear themselves even more to the ECW alumni. The 1st and 2nd falls here have some sloppiness, possibly nerves, but the 3rd fall is great. Still, I don't think this has aged well, and feels overrated at this point. The modern day equivalent to me would be the Mortos/Hologram 2/3 Falls match. Thank you YouTube's WWE Vault for this upload! ***"
[9.0] "Yeah, this is one of ECW's best matches ever. The high-flying action is what comes to define how epic this match is, not to mention an electric crowd. The fight goes everywhere around the arena, with even a few gruesome spots in the parking lot. All three falls impressively give both men good chance to shine, and while the previous nights' bought was good, I think we all can agree that the rematch was even better."
[8.0] "This match is a classic but through a 2024 lens it is not a 5 star match. Both men at the time are in their prime or at least on the cusp of it and have such great chemistry with each other. This match unfortunately just suffers from two key points in my perspective and that's time slot and the lucha 2 out of 3 fall booking. These to could use more time, they have a lot to offer and no time to even attempt to sell, and even less time than usual because of the match stipulation. Lucha 2 out 3 falls never feel very satisfying to me even though they're quite common place. Instead of 3 matches in one go, you get one match with 3 pinfalls and it makes the first 2 falls feel like transitional spots. This match honestly could've just been a normal match and it'd make no difference to the pacing. Glad I finally got to watch this match though, young Rey Mysterio is always fire"
[7.0] "I would have lost my mind watching this is 1996 but in 2024 I am not sure it got past good for me. The random diversion to the car park seemed a little pointless. Plenty of good stuff here but nothing that I will remember."
[8.0] "Damn, Rey might actually be part of the two best matches in ECW history (this one and the 2/3 Falls against Psicosis). This is such a chaotic, borderline overkill match with a whole lotta crazy moves and spots. It's all over the place and worked at a frenetic pace without much selling but such a great sense of urgency that made for an incredibly fun 15-minute car crash. [ < 8.5/10 ] **** 1/4"
[9.0] "Great action, especially by 1996 standards with really unique spots for traditional Lucha libre. The submission holds from Mysterio was nice to see, and seeing Juve and Rey work around a car in the parking lot was a lot of fun, and seeing them cater more to the American extreme style while keeping some traditional Lucha stylings was awesome. Great slow burn, I just wish that selling was a little more prominent and that there was a little more struggle for the first two falls."
[9.0] "This was nuts. The first two falls were super high action and just balls to the wall moves and flying around. This was such a fantastic first half that I wondered how it could get better and then they started going out of the ring. I did not expect this match to go to the parking lot and have a power bomb onto someones car. And Joey is just losing his mind the whole time. And they come back and theyre on full blast until the fantastic ending with Rey getting the win and putting him through the table because the crowd is demanding it. Its just pure fun from some of the best Luchadores of all time. Massive shoutout to the chair throw that Rey did too. That made me laugh pretty hard."
[7.0] "***3/4 / The first two falls here come pretty quickly considering the 15-minute runtime but the third fall got a lot of time to build. The match went outside of the ring into the parking lot back into the ring and back out in a great, fast, high-flying bout that saw two men throwing everything they had at each other. Not as good as Rey's 2/3 falls match from the year before against Psicosis but pretty close."
[9.0] "It's just a match where selling practically doesn't exist, there's no storytelling, but it leaves you entertained from start to finish with two of the best fighters in history. Lots of athleticism in this match, incredible moves and a lot of creativity. They had some nice technical wrestling in the opening minutes, but that didn't last long, what we had was purely two men creating a revolution in front of a very noisy arena due to the action. From the ring, to jumping the barricade and even in the parking lot, Mysterio and Juvi didn't stop for a single moment. Great reversals and dives, they understood each other like no one else, absurd chemistry. Juvi's kicks and strength with Rey's incredible speed make this match special. Her being a 5 star is completely understandable, there was nothing like that in America at the time. This match is revolutionary and they fought all over the arena, reviving a years-long and long-lasting rivalry, which leads to that fight ending even after the bell rings, with Rey destroying his opponent on the table. ABSOLUTE LOVED THIS! [4.5*]"
[6.0] "Some really solid stuff here, the first and second fall gives both wrestlers moments to shine. The third fall is a mix of both falls and is really good as well. Not much else besides some really great spots and actually some really decent technical at the start, would have liked more of that in the second and third falls."
[10.0] "Came into this a bit skeptical as to how it got 5 stars just given how young both guys were here and the fact that its ecw. Wow wow wow this was so fucking insane a great mix of lucha libre combined with The extreme spots common in ecw. Fucking awesome now I can see why this match is so highly rated. 4.75/5"
[9.0] "These two went balls to the wall with insane dives and some crazy power moves. Rey hits like five powerbombs in this match and absolutely stuffs Juvi every time. That Doctor Bomb that won Rey the second fall could've been his finish. Wouldn't be surprised if this is the match that got them both signed to WCW. GOOD SHIT"
[10.0] "Lucha was different back then, all the power moves and suplexes, all the creative counters and hardcore elements, they were doing top rope lionsault, springboard spinning heel kick, sprinboard harlem hangover, such fierce and snappy action, so many things go lost in time, they did a brawl to the outside at the very end just to have a powerbomb on the car, everything is perfectly executed and a surprising bait ending sequence only for Mysterio to powerbomb Juvie through the table anyway"
[10.0] "This match has gone down in history as ECWs one and only 5 star match. Question is, does it deserve that recognition? Hell yeah! This match was incredible. Easily better than Reys match at Bash at the Beach later that year. This had some nice technical wrestling in the opening minutes, excellent spots, and great counters. And that crowd. They loved every minute of this. From the opening bell to the final pin, they were hooked. Thats how you know the wrestlers involved accomplished something. There were barely any noticeable flaws in this match. The only ones I can think of would be the botched pin attempt near the beginning and the awkward hurricanrana on the outside of the ring (that can easily be chalked up to there being no padding and limited room). I also felt that them going outside of the arena was a bit unnecessary, but it ultimately didnt hurt the match overall. Other than that, this was basically a perfect match. 10/10. *****"
[8.0] "This didn't have much substance to it but the execution of their moves are so good it doesn't really matter. It looked like early on there was going to be some leg work on Rey but that was dropped so quickly. I thought the addition of weapons and the brawling outside was fine, but Rey not selling that powerbomb onto the car was nasty and the overall no selling during that portion of the match and afterwards was bad. They go back to doing all of their high flying stuff afterwards and Rey won after countering a splash mountain into a hurricanrana.****1/4"
[9.0] "An incredible match that helped change the way American fans viewed professional wrestling. Two innovators of offense throwing everything they had at one another in what seemed to start as an attempt to get their Lucha Libre style over with the fans and ultimately became an absolute classic of a battle. In the ring, in the parking lot, in the crowd. This was the epitome of ECW unleashing the talent and creativity of their wrestlers on a crowd of rabid fans eager to see the industry transform before their very eyes. The pace was surreal and the offense would fit in this era quite seamlessly. I completely understand why WON went five stars here, as it was revolutionary. I go a little lower, but this is an undisputed classic. 4.5 stars, 9 out of 10."
[8.0] "Great match! This is how you do a high flying match! It doesn't feel like a routine, it still feels like an athletic contest. I wish both wrestlers at this time knew how to portray their hatred for each other better in the ring than what the commentators failed to make me believe."
[9.0] "Sehr starkes 2 out of 3 Falls Match. Beide zeigen ihr Standardzeug, aber das in Kombination mit der ECW Crowd und dem chaotischen Gefühl funktioniert noch besser. Viele geile Spots die sicher in Erinnerung bleiben werden(****1/4)."
[8.0] "An incredible match, that's all. The stipulation for this match was perfect, it took place at ECW, so obviously they did what they wanted to do, and there were some great spots. A match I can only recommend if you are a fan of Rey Mysterio. [****1/4]"
[10.0] "This was non-stop great wrestling. Their sequences were super smooth, and the high flying was top-notch. This was arguably the best match that ever took place in ECW. These two had another great match just seven days later at a AAA show in Tijuana, Mexico."
[7.0] "Given this match's reputation (it's the highest-rated ECW match on this website), I was a tad let down by this. It's a super fun spotfest with flawless execution, but it's lacking all the stuff that made Rey's other ECW matches compelling. This was Rey and Juvi bringing out all of their greatest hits and not much else. There's not much selling to be found here and Juvi doesn't act like a bully as he did during their last ECW match together. The 'extreme' portion of this match felt tacked on, with them rushing outside to hit a hurricanrana from a car before rushing back into the arena. Joey Styles drones on about the hatred that these two were showing and I couldn't disagree more with him. This was a standard lucha match with a bit of fighting in the crowd and a few chair shots thrown in. We get the exact same finish as their Big Apple Blizzard Blast match too, with Rey countering Juvi's Splash Mountain for the deciding pinfall. There are worse ways to spend 20 minutes, but I can't see how this is the best ECW match."
[8.0] "A very good match here, with both men showing their incredible skills. It was only let down slightly due to the unnecessary "extreme" section where they left the arena for about 30 seconds, then came back and continued as though it hadn't happened. Still one of the many great matches these two had."
[8.0] "Good match. It feels weirdly rushed with an awkward trip to the parking lot for two quick moves only to immediately return. But Rey and Juventud know what they're doing and their in-ring work is on-point and excellent as you'd expect."
[8.0] "An incredible distillation of everything that makes lucha so great. The technical lock-ups at the beginning, the increasingly intense spots, and the fiery desperation from both competitors, with a little ECW sprinkled in during the back-lot brawl and chair throws. Rey and Juventud have undeniable chemistry with one another, and this match more than proves these two guys in front of a rabid, grateful ECW crowd. ****1/2."
[8.0] "Realistically a big time spotfest with some massive bombs being thrown at both guys. All the moves executed in the match look very good, especially the car powerbomb being the highlight. [****]"
[9.0] "Really great performance, the first fall was not memorable for me as the execution of the moves were a little strange but the the two other falls were absolutely epic ! From the somersaults on the outside of the ring until the fight in the parking lot, these two absolutely blow it away in one hell of a match. ****1/2"
[8.0] "This was a great match, almost entirely different to their match the month before in Queens, although it has the exact same finish and some originality in that regard would have been nice."
[10.0] "this was really great. fast action from start to finish. some of the smoothest moves you'll see. great lucha libre as you would expect. awesome acrobatics. the crowd was into everything. Mysterio and Guerrera were evenly matched throughout the entire thing. Mysterio had some good dives to the outside like an Asai Moonsault, hitting a hurricanrana to the outside, and jumping over the ref to hit a tope to the outside. I thought it was cool how they went out and fought outside and Guerrera gives Mysterio him a powerbomb onto the hood of the car and Mysterio giving a hurricanrana onto the concrete. The ending with Mysterio reversing a top rope splash mountain into a hurricanrana was great. And then to finish off Guerrera with a sit out powerbomb through a table for the fans was also really good."
[10.0] "Man, this match was bananas! The first two falls are very good, but the third falls amps up the action to incredible levels. The brawl into the parking lot and actually bumping and flying off of cars is phenomenal, but even without the use of props these two put on a rare performance. Awesome stuff here."
[10.0] "A great match that showcased both wrestlers really well. If it happened now I would have given this 9 points. But, because how the way high flying has grown and the time period, I am giving this a Tye Dillinger."
[9.0] "This must have been pretty cutting edge in 1996, and still holds up remarkably well in 2016. Rey and Juvi were both insanely talented and it's so impressive to watch two guys throw incredibly complex and dangerous moves at each other for 15 minutes and not come close to messing up a single one. Every dive and flip looks so graceful and impressive. There's not much by way of story or selling but I don't really care much about either of those things. I mostly watch wrestling to see cool, violent flippy shit, and that's exactly what this is. Also, the huracanrana off the car! Amazing!"
**** 1/4 (5)"
[8.0] "Great match, but at certain points the action is almost too fast. Both also no-sell plenty of devastating moves. The spots in the parking lot are great and very memorable till this day."
[8.0] "Super Match.
