Mistico bleeds in a nasty way, which usually i'm not a big fan of but it honestly just made me root for him more. A pure hero vs villain match and a great performance from both."

Mistico is a legend and gives one of the best selling performances I have seen alongside a savage blade job, which just rocketed the intensity and made this such an exciting and violent match. Mistico gets the win as he should have with La Mistica, and this was beautiful, a clear Match Of The Year contender."

[10.0] "MJF vs Mistico beautiful is how natural it feels. MJF controls the match with trash talk, shortcuts, and slow pressure, constantly dragging Mistico into his world. Mistico fights back with speed and heart, turning simple escapes into big moments that wake the crowd up. Nothing feels rushed. Each taunt, counter, and near fall has a purpose. MJF's smug confidence makes Mistico's comebacks hit harder, and Mistico's resilience slowly frustrates MJF. It's not flashy for the sake of it. It's two styles clashing, letting the crowd breathe, react, and fully invest in every moment."

[10.0] "It may be a simple heel vs face match, but that simplicity is what makes it so great. And considering the political climate at the time, you already knew this match was gonna be heated from the jump. Mistico had THE performance of his career, taking a beating like a champ while MJF was up to his usual antics as always. But no matter how many times Max knocked Mistico down, the former Sin Cara would not give in, no matter how exhausted he was. And it paid off wonderfully with Mistico tapping out MJF to win the Lightweight title and giving the crowd a feel-good moment. Sometimes, less is more."

Many moments here that are kinda sloppy, like MJF slowing down to a halt to take the scoop slam, to some wonky outside interferences. I also felt that ending was abrupt, as Mistico hadn't really been working the arm beforehand. From a production standpoint, I just can't stand how the ring isn't mic'd up, and how the commentators drown out the crowd noise."

It just seemed to never get to that next level and the finish seemed kind of sudden and underwhelming. The outcome was very predictable too. Both guys were good in the match but neither really did anything that was outstanding. Also commentary really brought my enjoyment out of it. I don't know who the two guys were but they were awful. Veda Scott is someone I usually enjoy but she was yelling the whole time and cheering for Mistico just like the other two guys were. I get MJF is. Heel but commentators are supposed to be unbiased. Or at least balanced. Anyways. Pretty good match but very overrated."

Stellar selling from the established legend and a megastar, pints of blood from the babyface, the heel is young, american and can do any move imaginable while heeling it up. The crowd was great, english commentary booth was quite awesome (Veda Scott im particular), and the atmosphere was there. Místico's entrance is pure mexican heart, I can't help but to get emotional (and I'm a russian dude white as whole milk). Magnificent oldschool match, that worker perfectly Some oldheads might say "that's how you do it", I say that is absolutely one of the ways. For younger wrestlers, if you want a model example -- be like Místico."

The blood pouring from him before the bell even rang, serving as a reminder in the final 2 matches. I can't get over the stains left behind on the canvas. Title vs. mask sounds simple in context but its much more than that. Its a designation as the best light heavyweight wrestler in CMLL against a wrestler's identity, their soul. A Mexican icon is literally defending his craft from an invader. Of course I have to mention MJF's role here, there's not many people that can fill that role so well. A literal supervillain in the wrestling ring against a nation's folk hero. More than a story, it was a war, encapsulating the lengths MJF is willing to go pitted against the passion that Mistico holds for the sport that his gave him his life. Give it all the stars, perhaps match of the year. Show your friends this masterpiece (provided they aren't squeamish)."

Some cool spots here and there including the springboard destroyer and MJF's spaceman plancha. But also some embarrassingly sloppy spots like after the long exchange of elbows when Mistico hits the ropes and then awkwardly stops in the middle of the ring and waits for MJF to run over and boot him in the gut to restart the irish whip sequence. Several cringe-inducing exchanges on the outside where Jon Cruz can't quite get to his spot in time so instead of actually facing any consequences from Templario for his interference they just kind of...stare at each other."

Yes it is just a Home time face vs a foreign heel but with the political climate of the world right now it had more fuel added to it aided by to great entrances. The match itself is just bloody incredible with both men putting in all timer performances showing the stakes and pure emotion of the match. We got an all timer blade job from Mistico in the first minute that just added to the crowds belief in him, as MJF worked one of the best Heel performances i have ever seen. We then got a long control period from MJF which he was excellent in as he worked it in a very grounded way unlike a lot of his matches recently as he slowly beat up Mistico and worked him down whilst working the crowd into a frenzy. We then get a godly comeback from a bloodied Mistico to the roars of the crowd with MJF trying all of his little tricks to stay in the match which almost came off. Then after John cruse tried the distraction Mistico super kicked him and then caught MJF in La Mistica for the win. Fuck me what a match just such a simple match concept done the best i have ever seen it such a grounded gritty fight boosted by the emotion of the crowd and the stipulation. Mr MJF please work all your matches like this when you come back stop digging in your own butt with stupid finishes with Ref bumps and missed counts please. Mistico is so goated the performance was off the scale level good added to by the godly blade job. Yeah easy 10 and a definite MOTY. (*****)"

I would argue this is MJF's best heel performance, right next to his match with Danielson. It isn't the most proficient, or impressive match, but the beauty in the match lies in what it accomplishes. It encompasses a great atmosphere, from the greatest wrestling arena in the world, and platforms that to champion arguably one of the greatest luchadors of our time. The only thing Mistico is left chasing, are ghosts of Arena Mexico's past, trying to insert himself on the pantheon of Mexican greats. I think he's already there. This match helps solidifies that. I called Danielson vs Blue Panther a tribute to old-school CMLL, this match is the perfect cocktail of everything one wants out of the current day CMLL product, and what has made it the best promotion in the world. *****"

[10.0] "Amazing! Simply amazing! We have the home-country babyface, Mistico vs the American piece of shit heel MJF. Has it been done before? Is it what some would call cliche? Undoubtedly, these points are worthy of note. It is also imperative to state that MJF and Mistico added to the noteworthy lineage of these types of matches previously. From the outset of the match Mistico is profusely bleeding which already let you know this was going to be a match of epic proportions. MJF and to a certain extent, Jon Cruz do an excellent job of not only selling the American heel gimmick but they genuinely make you despise them. Mistico then proceeds to have the match of a lifetime. While this is a match that most would dream to have, MJF just has a match. Now this isn't to imply that MJF just goes through the motions. Rather, he puts on a absolute masterclass in what a heel should look like internationally. However when you have another match within 24 hours, naturally you want to conserve some energy. But all things considered he still puts on a great performance making you feel like he sincerely could be the scum of the earth. This was a legitimate match of the year contender and a vehemently undeniable banger from two of the best in world today."

[9.0] "It would have been better if Mistico shaved MJF's shitty little hair. Yeah, I mean, this deserves all the hype that it has got. This is a damn near perfect match with maybe the best babyface performance this year from Mistico. The first like 15 seconds, MJF throws Mistico as hard as humanly possible into the ring post and Mistico, with a ripped up mask, is already bleeding. And that is what MJF focuses on. He does many eye pokes trying to make his vision go away and take away his offense. BUT IT DOESN'T MATTER BECAUSE MISTICO IS THE FUCKING GOAT. No matter what MJF does, MISTICO FINDS A WAY TO STAY ALIVE. Everything that Mistico does in this match made me happy, excited, and it felt real. I wanted MJF to get his ass kicked. He was disrespecting Arena Mexico, the fans, the culture, and Mistico himself. Any chance he got, he did something dirty. Whether that was attacking him before the match started, or ripping the mask, or doing a package piledriver onto the apron and willingly taking the count-out win. He doesn't care how he gets there; he just wants the win. But nothing compares to THAT Mistico spot. On the outside, dead, and when he tries to get onto the apron to get back into the ring, he can't. He falls. Collapses from exhaustion and blood loss. So he tries again, and he falls. But he is able to get back in. Misticos' performance is godly, and as much as I wish Max was just a tad bit more vicious, it doesn't change the fact that this is a godly match through and through. Do I think that it is one of the best matches of the year? It is definitely up there, do I think that it deserves the hype? Absolutely. Do I think you should go watch it? Well duh lmao. ****3/4 (4.75)"

[7.0] "It may be difficult to understand because I'm using the translation function. MJF did a great job as an American heel, and Místico, who was bleeding profusely, also showed some great performances. It's been a while since I've seen lucha libre, so I was happy to see Místico still receiving huge cheers from the crowd as the greatest luchador of all time. Still, the reason I can't give this match a score of 7 or higher is probably because I don't have a good understanding of lucha libre. I just can't understand the unique timing and expressions. MJF's repeated piledriver-style moves were also reasons why it wasn't to my liking."

[7.0] "A great match but one that kind of soured on me as it progressed. MJF starting out by attacking Mistico, ripping his mask and then Mistico getting crazy color is one hell of a bold way to start the match. MJF was gonna have to work really hard to maintain that level of heel throughout the match which he does but he seemed like he showed his hand really early. MJF's heel antics were kind of more of the same classics, none bad but considering the opening it left me wanting more. Mistico also worked a solid babyface comeback but one issue I have with Mistico is his dramatisation. I find his storytelling incredibly corny and melodramatic which I guess works with how exaggerated of a heel MJF is but it can sometimes dwell into being a parody of itself, albeit a good one. The two still have some great moments with MJF executing a less than graceful fosbury flop which works for his character and Mistico taking that devastating package piledriver on the apron but even then sometimes these guys didn't gel super well with some awkward transitions between spots. I really liked this match still but its pretty inconsistent and rough around the edges. Also CMLL needs to sort out their production issues with entrances please"

[9.0] "This was a great match. Mistico is legitimately one of the biggest stars in Mexico and proof that you don't need to be a good fit for WWE to be a big star in wrestling. MJF is one of wrestling's greatest heels today and it showed in this match. Before the match officially began, he attacked Mistico, ripped apart his mask and rammed his head into the ring post, making him bleed. MJF pulled out a Ricochet-esque dive over the top ropes, something I've never seen him do. It led to unintentional great comedy when he tripped over Mistico after landing and fell face first into the barricade. Speaking of great spots, Mistico pulled out a wicked canadian destroyer off of doing a springboard, which looked awesome in execution. All of this while Mistico was wearing the crimson mask. MJF tried pinning him with a jumping tombstone. That didn't work. Later he hit the package piledriver on the ring apron to try to get a count out. That didn't work. He even went for the fujiwara armbar, using part of Mistico's finish, but Mistico was able to reverse that into a pin attempt. For the finish, MJF was going for a tombstone from the 2nd turnbuckle, but Mistico got out of it and hit a rana instead. He then hit La Mistica and made MJF submit. ****1/4"

Although I'm not typically a fan of storylines where a super villainous and toxic heel humiliates Mistico, in this case, it's more about the development of the villain and the folk hero. I'd rate it around 8/10 or even 9/10 for the execution and the impressive reversals from Mistico, such as the transition into the Canadian Destroyer. However, I wouldn't rate it any higher."

[9.0] "This was an excellent match. I actually prefered this feud to the one between MJF and Adam Page. Opposing MJF to Mistico is a great creative idea because everywhere he goes, MJF is always an unbelievable heel, while Mistico is the greatest luchador of the 21st century. Hence, there is an opposition of style between the entertainment proposed by Max and Mistico's good old lucha libre. I found interesting the fact that Mistico bleeds from the 30th second of this match, it gave a whole aura to the destruction caused by Homelander Max (love that attire). The wrestling itself is good, they built up Mistico as the undeniable tecnico facing a foreginer rudo. The only negative point I would draw attention on is the fact that Mistico didn't work at all Max's arm but achieved to make him tap, it's a little easy to book but it doesn't take away the greatness of this match."

MJF busts Mistico open on the ring post within seconds of the match starting, creating an amazing visual of blood seeping through his torn mask. His foreign heel stooging is brilliant, acting as a perfect foil for Mistico who (I admittedly I haven't seen a lot of his CMLL work and after this I'll DEFINITELY be rectifying that) sold the gory spectactle with all the gravity it deserved."

I love MJF in CMLL, because the king of heel promos shines when he's the foreign heel, waving his flag and telling everyone else why his country is better. The sad thing is, he didn't do that here. So, even though this was a great match in the ring, I feel that it was lacking because it didn't have that, just like the first match was lacking because it had the pre-match and post-match MJF heel fun but was lacking in the ring. Let's hop for a third match that will combine the best of both matches. That will be the 10 in my eyes."

[10.0] "Hell fuckin yeah. Objectively, as an individual match, I'd say it's a 9. But I'm gonna give it a 10 personally because of what they achieved. Because it was something different (but ironically, something it was always meant to be). Because it wasn't the typical sequence slop, but epic storytelling! There were some great little details. Like the moment where MJF was about to catch Místico but subtly moved his fingers to do the "no" gesture as if he were shocked and in denial. You might think this doesn't add much to the match, but it does subconsciously. It adds immersion. Even if you know it's scripted, you subconsciously start buying it and get hooked on to the story. Small things like that mean so much. But all that doesn't mean there weren't any issues here that took away just as much as the good details added. There were some minor problems, like slightly off body language and positioning at times, which made a few sequences look awkward or performative instead of authentic. Or when, after taking the Destroyer, MJF seemed to want a rope break but couldn't get close enough, so he had to do the conventional kick out instead. The rope break would have been way more dramatic. MJF couldn't get the body positioning right when he fell. He was only inches apart. Or maybe it was Mistico's fault as he pulled back the leg of MJF and stopped it from touching the rope. Idk gotta recheck that. But this is what I mean when I say some modern workers aren't really bad; the reason they disappoint me more is because they're only a margin short of being actually great. Still, I feel like overall these two did something so great that those flaws can be easily ignored here. This is the type of stuff that makes you cry. This is what this sport, this business, this art was all about. If only they can sharpen their body language and positioning a little to make it feel more organic, I have no doubt this current regime can easily turn the wrestling world upside down and truly compete with, and be comparable to, the legends of the past. And I'm still gonna hope they do, just like this crowd who held onto their hope for Místico all match long and never gave up on him."

A basic story, but it always works, disrespectful outsider comes in, takes a title and insults the promotion. Local hero fights him for honour. Making it a title vs mask match, just added to the stakes. Can't get a bigger stipulation in Mexico than putting your mask/hair on the line. They worked very well together too, nice use of blood aswell. Might be the best CMLL match of the year"

I am not the greatest knowballer when it comes to luchalibre, even with me recently watching a lot of matches from there, I can't overrate my own knowledge, that is the first step to become a stupid person. Came here and say that in his previous matches MJF did a poor job to represent the lucha libre how it should be maybe it will be a wrong move, knowing the fact that I don't have THAT knowledge to know. But something feels off you know? His pre matches angle were great, his post matches angle was godly, Jon Cruz always did a impressive great, but when the bell rings..he wasn't able to keep that same level of greatness. I felt that with Averno, I felt that with Zandokan Jr. And them, this match was announced, I instantly start questioning if he would be good enough to present us with a incredible match. Last year we had the dogshit between Mistico and Chris Jericho, this time he needed to show something good at the CMLL Anniverssary. You know what all this set up reminds me? His match facing Danielson at Revolution. Everyone was so in doubt about his skills, if he would be able to perform a high rank match for a entire hour with one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. He succeded, created for what is for me and a lot of people the best Danielson match ever. And right here, he probably did the best match Mistico ever had in his career. His heel work was on point, nothing too forced to make you bored, on point, focusing on his opponent instead of focusing on the crowd. Also, the crowd had a important job here to elevate the intensity of this match. Místico started bleedimg and right after that, the match reached a so great point. Package Piledriver in the apron, a intense twenty seconds count that I even though that Místico would lose. But he is a fucking GOAT for a reason. His victory felt necessary and it came with one of the most dramatic La Mistica I ever saw in my entire life. That match, honestly, can be higher ranked as one of the best lucha libre matches I ever saw, both guys was incredible at their respective jobs and made the entire show worth it. Everything did with drama, incredible pace and obvious, love. Love for the game. This is a FUCKING five stars match for me, and it only showed up that MJF indeed knows ball. Granted, I've seen all the buildup to this match. Like MJF attacking before the match officially started legit set the tone for this entire match. Beat the hell out of him and already had him leaking in the matter of the first minute of the match. MJF in control for a solid 5 minutes doing all his MJF stuff before mistico comes alive. Also enjoy the ref so badly wanting mistico to win it makes it feel like in a way the whole company is rooting for him. MJF had a hell of a weekend last week. (****3/4)"

It's like watching Ousmane Dembele in Barcelona and then jumping directly to watching him in PSG. I think I owe Max an apology, he found himself perfectly here. That was a very beautiful, full of great moments, amazing selling and fantastic crowd-play match. Mistico's bloodbath was insane to watch, truly a great spectacle being played in such little time. Ending was so cool to see and very satisfying, atmosphere was insane. Loved almost every bit of it, it's an almost perfect match."

You may not give it a ten like I did but there is no reason you should not enjoy a bloody Mistico taking down MJF in Arena Mexico. You cannot tell me you think this is a bad match. From MJF's entrance to the conclusion of the match it is wrestling magic."

[10.0] "The whole "obnoxious American invades lucha" thing has been done so much it's basically a cliche, but there's a reason it's done so much: when it works, it's really something beautiful. MJF is of course a perfect choice for the role, drilling it home by coming out in full Homelander attire and just soaking in the hate from the Arena Mexico fans. Mistico comes out and it's clear his popularity has once again reached an incredible peak, his drawing power this year with CMLL has really been amazing and the fans just love him. He's bounced back a long way from the dark days of Sin Cara. MJF wastes no time at all and hits Mistico with a blitz during his entrance, ripping his mask and quickly busting him open spectacularly on the ring post. The defining visual of the rest of the match will be Mistico continually dripping blood out of the tatters of his mask, staining his gear, the ring, leaving smears all over the ringside area, it's a tremendous bloody spectacle, right up my alley. They play off the fans amazingly, it's a match made in heaven and the energy is just perfect as the match swings back and forth, MJF blasting away but Mistico refusing to go down and fighting back with his own offense whenever he can find an opening. Mistico did some tremendous selling here as well, there was a near countout spot where he kept slipping off the apron as he tried to pull himself back in because of all the blood, and it was damn convincing. In the end Mistico captures MJF in La Mistica and forces the tap out to a tremendous reaction. In my top 5 of 2025."

This had pretty much everything: an absolutely epic match that will remain a career highlight for both wrestlers forever. I would've preferred it as the main event, considering the importance of the opponent, but either way it's a must-watch and definitely a strong MOTY contender. The blood behind Mistico's mask and the ring stained with it added even more intensity to the bout. The only issue, perhaps, is that Mistico remains one of the most followed wrestlers in Mexico but has limited reach outside of Mexico/CMLL. Still, for me, it told a powerful story. Everything about it was just beautiful."

Some of the moves were indeed hard hitting, but Mistico isn't Dorada, Hologram or Komander. I just don't find him that appealing in the ring"

[7.0] "The match was good, but not as good as people say. It was a classic battle between a foreign heel and a domestic hero. Maxwell is a great heel. Everyone has known that for the last five years. And the cartoonish storyline of this match has been known to everyone since the invention of wrestling. There's nothing wrong with using retro gimmicks. But at the same time, I don't understand the fascination with this match. I didn't see anything new or fresh in it. In terms of ring work, the match was even more questionable. Maxwell emphasized the story and interaction with the crowd, so there were long lulls in the action. Meanwhile, MJF himself was hesitant and sloppy at many points. Overall, the wrestling was good, but again, not at the level to be praised."
