Callum Newman vs. Yuya Uemura

[7.0] "Pretty fun match here. I like Newman, but Uemura getting the win here was good. If either of these guys were to win this year's tournament, I'd rather it be Uemura. I've been saying it for a while now, but he really has the potential to be the next ace."

[7.0] "Callum Newman has that smugness down pat. The sort that had me baying for his blood when he attacked Zane Jay before the match! That's a credit to him. Some great high spots here (the double stomp to the outside), but the fundamentals that Yuya Uemura shows every match are the sort of thing I love in wrestling. Great finish to this match too. [6.0] "6.5 - Great performance from Callum. He hard-sold the arm, which beautifully factored into the finish. He also looked great on the missed OsCutter. His subtle charisma refelcted interestingly against Yuya's big, broad-stroke babyface work."

[7.0] "Good match between these two. Newman is really putting it together as a singles guy and Uemura is slowly improving in his crowd connection too. Solid tussle with a good bit of drama. ***1/2"

[7.0] "Really fun match that was told well, Yuya working Newman's arm forcing Newman to use his legs and speed even more. Callum and Yuya sold really well and I loved each time Newman went for the Oscutter it backfired. The deadbolt finish was good."

[7.0] "The match as good. Uemura is built very strong I think in this G1 Climax. I love his wrestling style, switching from technicality to more fast-paced action. I still don't know what to think of Callum Newman. The guy seems to have the level but... Something is still missing for me I guess."

[8.0] "This was surprisingly good. Yuya did the technicality and the arm work whilst Newman used his speed. Both men meshed very well together and the sequences were really well done, which goes to show just how much Newman has improved since last year."

[6.0] "(Grade:C-/**3/4) A match that kept flip flopping from engagement to dragging at times. Callum Newman did well selling his arm injury and kept fighting on hitting a devastating double stomp to the outside on Uemura back. Yuya Uemura is on a solid run in the tournament so far."

[7.0] "Didn't have massive expectations going into this but this was pretty good. Yuya targets Callum's arm which he actually sells pretty well. Callum hasn't been a massive standout in this tournament but I have noticed that his selling has improved massively. He does a great job at adapting his offence to avoid using his arm, and is able to turn the tide in his favour with a few gnarly double foot stomps. They go back and forth a bit more towards the end until Yuya is able to get Callum in position for a Deadbolt which, despite many attempts to avoid it, is eventually what puts him away. Very good stuff from both guys here. Despite this being Yuya's weakest match of the tournament he was still very good here and Callum impressed with a pretty good selling performance. ***1/2"

[7.0] "A really fun high paced hard hitting match here. Newman looked great in this match using his pace and landing big kicks and knees throughout whilst still selling his knee and also selling a shoulder injury which Yuya kept targeting. The double stomp to the outside was really cool as well. Yuya is on a tear in this G1 he is putting on great matches every time he gets in the ring i am becoming a real fan of his and the finish with him countering to set up the Deadbolt was great. Overall a really fun match between to future stars with great striking and limb work from both (***1/2)"

[5.0] "This match was fine; there were some nice moments, but nothing more than that. Uemura did his usual stuff, working over the limbs and such. I'm struggling with Newman. You can see a good performer in there, but a few years into his NJPW run, and I don't know what he brings to the table besides the fact that he runs fast and is a good athlete. This match struggled because every time he'd get momentum and pick up the pace, the crowd just didn't care. He's only 22, so he's got time to grow. He's been given a big spot with the departures of Ospreay and, more recently, Cobb, whether by design or by lack of other options in the UE, NJPW threw him into the deep to see if he would sink or swim, and right now I think he's sinking. 2.75 stars."

[5.0] "***1/4 normal match, normal pace, some interesting sequences, normal chemistry, normal limbwork from Uemura to Newman's arm, and a normal but somewhat exaggerated selling from Newman, since Uemura's offense had not been so intense as to sell intense pain and that he could not use his arm well considering that there were only 4 minutes in the match, normal ending without much to highlight."

[7.0] "Two of the most fun guys to watch in the entire tournament. Both guys got to show what they can do, and Uemura gets the victory."

[6.0] "A really fun and dynamic matchup where Uemura focuses on the arm of Newman ruthlessly. Newman utilised his kick based offence as much as possible to cut down Uemura, but it was not enough to overcome the Heat Storm as he got the win via Deadbolt Suplex. This told a simple story of limb damage but did it very effectively whilst making both men sympathetic. A very strong showing which is worth a watch."

[7.0] "Yuya Uemura has had the best G1 run so far, he should be the young guy NJPW commits to. Callum did well here too I think."

[8.0] "What a surprising banger. I've never expected Uemura vs. Newman flowing so well, they really have giant potential working together. Newman's selling was great and Uemura targeting was always good. Love how Yuya plays around Kannuki Suplex this tournament. ****1/4"

[7.0] "This was fun. Callum's stomp to the outside was a great spot. Yuya was great as always. The finish was great and the Deadbolt is quickly becoming one of my favorite finishing moves."

[6.0] "Enjoyable, but often at risk of overrunning itself. Uemura trying to not so much slow Newman down but just trap him made for a good thread, but at times the pacing and direction of this was a bit too chaotic."

[7.0] "The best Uemura match of the tournament, it was all action and left no time to yawn at all. He is undoubtedly better at 10 minutes sprint rather than main-events in this Climax. ***1/2"
