[4.0] "Not the best thing to do right after YOSHI-HASHI and Shingo Takagi didn't even get five minutes in the very first tournament match, but here we are. Newman is someone I think has a lot of potential, but he's not going to get to show that much in a Singles Match against this current iteration of EVIL, unfortunately. This was, easily, the worst match of the show."
[3.0] "The copy and paste House of Torture style match. Both Newman and EVIL's ability suffers from having to wrestle that style, and the match itself had very few high points worthy of noting. Newman in particular did not seem to be anywhere close to his best in this one."
[4.0] "Messy, goofy House of Torture EVIL stuff. Either you enjoy this by now or you don't, I'm pretty low on it and Callum Newman does not remotely entertain me enough to sell me on it either."
[5.0] "I haven't seen many EVIL matches, but I get the vibe and why he's not particularly well loved by IWC fans. The one on one action in this match is perfectly fine, but it all becomes very predictable once EVIL's lackeys get involved. Not terrible, but not very good either."
"Grade: D This match was your typical directionless HOT slog fest. At least Newman had some moments to shine though he should have won. It's sad to see Evil phoning it in like he has been the last couple years cause the guy CAN wrestle. He's just been on a real cold streak lately."
[4.0] "(Grade:D/**) Not a bad match but had the HOT Shenanigans you expected but Evil had his own with very few outside interference against Newman working over his leg. Callum Newman still is improving every so slightly in my eyes so hopefully he has a good showing this time around in the G1."
[4.0] "We've seen much worse from EVIL in this tournament, so it's hard for me to feel that annoyed. Nine minutes on the second match of the card is tolerable for me on night one, we'll see after a couple weeks how this changes. He just feels like he hasn't developed his presentation at all over the last five years, always the same story and match structures that are impossible to enjoy. Newman works hard here to sell the insurmountable odds and shows flashes of his unique style, but get put down fairly easily. **"
[6.0] "Nice, smart heel tactics by EVIL. If you cheat, make is at least somewhat believable. The ref did not look like a complete tool. Newman looks lovely, his fire and his physique have come a long way. I like his kicking and moveset. Some solid nearfalls, and a frustrating but understandable finish. 3* from me"
[2.0] "The interference may not be the worst thing this match has going for it. Its lack of any engaging stretch is the thing that completely takes me out of it. The whole story of the bout is Newman's back and knee being worked over for EVIL to submit him with the scorpion deadlock. But neither Callum's selling is consistent enough nor EVIL's attack mean-spirited enough to make this interesting. For as focused of a match as this should be, the execution is simply bad."
[4.0] "I liked Callum Newman's performance in the ring. I didn't know him, but now I know he's a pretty talented guy. However, this wrestling was garbage in terms of in ring performance where the way a heel acts in such a prestigious tournament as G1 Climax is was appalling to me and makes the wrestling forgettable."
[2.0] "This match sucked, wish the tag rope spot looked like it did more damage, to me it always looks bad. Callum tried to use his speed which was alright but I just didn't buy into it. The hat trick spot with Callum landing the outside dive made me wish he did his outside dive quicker."
[4.0] "Callum Newman carried this match in my opinion. The first half of the match is just a boring beat down from Evil, and Newman eventually comes back with offense of his own. It was a bad but predictable ending with interferences and an Evil win."
[4.0] "Pretty much what I expected from this. Mostly uninteresting action with a fair amount of interferences. Seems like Callum is back to being boring after the Goto match. Evil can be entertaining but was the exact opposite here. **"
[2.0] "** bad match, the same as last year, Newman doing his best to make the match entertaining, Evil contributing almost nothing to the match and a terrible ending with the referee knocked down, Togo and Fale interfering, Fale makes his finish on Newman, Evil applies a sharpshooter and Newman gives up without complications"
[4.0] "All 4 of these points are for Callum, HOT interference can get fucked. Fair play to Callum for making this match somewhat enjoyable with some good selling and some nice dives that got the crowd behind him during his come back and his kick after running the ropes was nice. Evil was ok in the ring targeted and worked over Callum's knee well throughout the match and hit a nice diving chop block nice to see most of an Evil match was clean for once. But the H.o.T Interference is so shit and pointless the chair spot was so pointless no one really even gave a shit in the crowd. The ref bump at the end for Dick to come in and chock Callum was shit and then Fale hit the worst excuse for a finisher ever at least Evil did a leg submission that played into the limb work and Callum's bad knee not just going for a cover. Overall thank good for Callum in this match and again Fuck HOT I cant be doing this for another 9 matches (**1/4)"

I absolutely hate that Fale is gonna be ringside for EVIL's matches (but on a positive note I am glad to see him back from his personal issues that took him out of the Soul tour). Other then that it was boring. Newman is much better then last year and had a decent performance."
[4.0] "Lmao why are they paying Fale to be on this tour and do EVIL's dirty work? I can't get behind Newman as a face, he doesn't bring enough energy despite his clear talents. 2.25 stars"
[3.0] "This was ten minutes of slow paced moves and Fale and Togo helping EVIL to win so it wasn't anything enjoyable to me, it was just so predictable throughout. *1/2"
[5.0] "Up until the predictable nasty finish, this was way more electrifying than the previous match. I thought Callum looked good out there, really has the fans on his side. Evil is still my most tolerable member of HoT. So the match was about a 6, minus 2 for the fucky finish, but one bonus point for choking Callum with the tag rope on a show with zero tag matches."
[3.0] "Hem. Heel interventions in the G1 Tournament? On day 1? To do what exactly? The in-rint was not bad, just boring. It was there, don't really know what to think of it. Maybe there I just wanted a good competitive wrestling match instead of this interventions, that sincerely, EVIL doesn't need."
[6.0] "The House do be winning. Simple and effective story told here - EVIL is a cheating dick, Callum has a bad knee. They established both stories well here. Fale is so obviously past it, the Grenade during the finish was weak as all hell, but otherwise I enjoyed this. But I am a noted House of Torture enjoyer, so your mileage may vary if you can't stand that for whatever reason. Perfectly Acceptable Wrestling. ** 1/2."
[3.0] "i am so sick to my stomach of just seeing the house of torture on my tv screen and it has already started man. It's gonna be a long tournament if every single one of evils matches are this crap. Newman seemed like he was gonna be able to make a comeback and overcome before being shut back down. Not a fan of this match at all but newman looked good. 1.50 stars"

Callum was the one thing worth watching in this match, with some good high flying and running the ropes like a madman. Only so much you can do fighting EVIL though. Fale also looked terrible. *1/2"

Newman and EVIL put on a decent match and got the crowd into it, but then you got the ref bump and HOT interference leading to EVIL picking up the cheap win. We got a mostly fine match with the odd EVIL cheating spot until the awful end where Togo & Fale interfered and lead to the utterly heatless finish. I always find it funny when people try to tell me how much heat HoT have when they regularly receive absolutely no reaction. **"
[4.0] "Hahhhhhhh...... Just when I was starting to enjoy this G1 this shit just had to happen. HoT is such a fucking confusing concept to me. This fucking stable needs to be murdered in a fucking steel cage match. On the bright side, Callum is great as always. In fact this match really highlights how good he is being saddled with wrestling fucking EVIL. Fuck HoT the long way."
[4.0] "Well. To be honest, what we got in the ring was pretty good, but the interference by Togo and Fale was completely unnecessary. Keep the HOT stuff out of my beloved G1. The chair spot was actually insanely unnecessary and Fale can't even seem to hit his finisher properly anymore, which made for a dull finish on top of a disappointing match that could have been good without Fale and Togo"
[5.0] "I was happily surprised how EVIL wrestle a lot more in the match. Usually we get a lot more a heelish cheated, but thet it was only the finish. Newman continue to grow as a wrestler, which is great for him. Great showing for him in offense and defense"
[4.0] "This was a typical bad HOT match. Don Fale now being in HOT makes it even worse. I dont like Callum but hey, he got the crowd behind him during his comeback. Evil stinks. All of his matches in the tournament will prolly stink but im always open to be surprised."
[5.0] "This is typical H.o.T match of course ! The wrestling abilities weren't especially on EVIL's side and Newman made most of the job (don't get me wrong he did it very well considering it was a match involving H.o.T and cheating). It was also good to see that the crowd was really behind Newman for this second G1 participation. However, EVILs stablemates ruined most of the match obviously, it wasn't even in a smart or original way"
[3.0] "Aaaaaaaand the show comes crashing down once again because the House of Torture, as befitting their name, is like torture to watch. If you've seen one House match, you've seen them all, and today is no different. Heel shenanigans to give EVIL the edge early on, ref bump to basically end it. Sigh."
[5.0] "This was your classic HoT G1 match really, lots of referee distraction with Dick Togo and Don Fale. Callum Newman played the face well and seems to increasingly be his own man in the ring which is promising, but this was tainted by the constant cheating and interference. The crowd did get really into it which helped a lot, but inevitably it was EVIL picking up the win via the interference of Dick Togo and Don Fale. EVIL submitted Newman with a Scorpion Deathlock and this was fine, nothing exceptional but Newman and the crowd saved it from being bad."
