I can always go back and watch their first meeting in the G1 a few years ago if I want to see these two have a banger, but I still would have liked another. Also, very weird to kick off the tournament this way. I don't know."

GingeeDome03 wrote on 29.07.2025:
"Grade: D+ Nothing you can really dig your teeth into here. They exchange some moves, Hashi gets a pinning combo and it's over under 5. Undercard fluff that does not speak to the talents of both performers"

[6.0] "(Grade:C/***) For the opening start of G1 Climax, it was a fine match. Shingo Takagi & Yoshi-Hashi didn't go all out which is expected but wasn't seeing Yoshi-Hashi getting the win over Takagi so excited to see where he's placement goes on the scoreboard entirely."

[5.0] "I really don't like the structure of 10-match G1 shows, because of the time constraints. I don't expect either of these two to make it to the later stages of the tournament, but effort is never a concern. YOSHI-HASHI's work isn't that crisp here, with his kicks in particular being all over the place. I'm surprised by how harsh some comments are for this opener, they did what they could in such a tight match. **3/4"
GonzoAppreciator wrote on 21.07.2025:
[3.0] "This was a really strange match to open the show with. It starts off slow with some shoulder barge exchanges for a minute before they're suddenly doing big strike exchanges and going for finishers until YOSHI gets the pin. Very disappointing match and result."
BasuraNocturna wrote on 21.07.2025:
[3.0] "They don't put a lot into this short match. Striking exchange into one getting the advantage for the other to win. They set up Takagi's lack of focus on Yoshi when Shingo celebrates to early and gets kicked in the head for it. The finish is good in theory. But the execution doesn't quite match the rhythm and intensity they try to convey with their facials (especially Takagi, Hashi doesn't seem to try to convey much)."
eltetechori wrote on 20.07.2025:

MarkCarnochan97 wrote on 20.07.2025:
[4.0] "The pace that they set for this match was really strange. They started off slow, feeling each other out, then hit a few moves each and felt like they were already going for finishers. They knew they were going under 5mins so I don't know why they didn't just go for a super hard hitting breakneck pace? Are they trying to get the crowd fired up or not? Just an odd decision."
Pandawithwingsx wrote on 20.07.2025:

bigdaddyc369 wrote on 20.07.2025:
[6.0] "A pretty solid opening match my only real complaint is it didn't get enough time. I think they did great with the time they had as it was a fun back and forth encounter. I like the finish with Yoshi Hashi getting the win the same way Shingo did in their first match."
AnotherSpreadsheeter wrote on 20.07.2025:
[8.0] "You're all a bunch of nerds, this was an awesome sprint. Trading bombs, suplexes and fighting spirit spots from the opening second. There's been a shift towards 'story' matches across the industry and which has left a hole of guys doing spots in fast sprints. Didn't expect Yoshi-Hashi to be the one to fill that gap, but screw it, it's more than welcome. This might be my dark horse match of the evening."
ZooWee wrote on 19.07.2025:
[4.0] "Not the best opener. This kinda felt like the ending sequence to a much longer match without any of the build up. They go back and forth until Yoshi gets the shock win with a crucifix. **1/4"

It was awesome to see Yoshi Hashi pick up the upset win and You love to see these types of wins in the tournament when they're done well. I love Yoshi-Hashi's story during this, I think it'll make him very fun to follow throughout the tournament."

PakaB wrote on 19.07.2025:
[4.0] "A very short match. Actually it's under 5 minutes so I'm not sure how we're able to rate it here. It wasn't terrible, but the lack of time it was afforded meant the match was primarily a bunch of solid chops and clotheslines. SINGLES RECORD: Tied 1-1"
Cavazos01 wrote on 19.07.2025:
[3.0] "**1/4 match was very meh, they were going well, with an interesting rhythm but it lasted excessively little, and had a bad ending, both in result and execution, these two are good at fighting each other, and this duration and booking did not deserve it"
Chefi wrote on 19.07.2025:
[2.0] "I am VERY disappointed with how this match went. Considering their banger in 2022, I had high expectations.. But it turned out to be a move spammed match that didn't even get FIVE minutes? That pisses me off because these two had good chemistry before, but this wasn't it at all. I hope Yoshi turns out to be a good pick, because this wasn't too impressive. Also shocked to see a Yoshi win."
AlexClark314 wrote on 19.07.2025:
[6.0] "A pretty good short had hitting contest to open this years G1 which fit some good stuff into a sub 5 minute match. There was some nice lariats in this match and some nice stiff striking and kicks. surprise win for Yoshi-Hashi by countering the last of the dragon into a crucifix bomb for the 3 count is made it interesting as a result but it meant he match ended when it was just getting going if they wanted it to be short surely it could of still go another couple of minutes. Overall a good match for the time they were given showing what you can do with under 5 minutes. (***)"

FishHookEXE wrote on 19.07.2025:

Shingo in the standard "wow anything can happen in the G1" win kinda stinks, and maybe trying to establish Yoshi Hashi as a guy who could go on a long run makes my stomach churn. Not a great start to this G1. The work was adequate, nothing more. **"

It got me thinking that maybe this will be a tournament round story of shingo looking like he's down and out before eventually coming back and atleast making the semi finals. 2.50 stars"

[6.0] "The G in G1 stands for Gedo ruining everyone's pick ems instantly. This was a good little match, but obviously super short. YOSHI-HASHI beating Shingo in less than 5 has got to be one of the biggest upsets ever in the G1, right? They had some good stiff exchanges, before Tacos picked up the win with the Crucifix. A fine, but little weird opener for this G1. **3/4"
epaff wrote on 19.07.2025:
[4.0] "Perfectly fine if unspectacular start to the G1. These two experienced veterans were never going to turn in a bad match, but given so little time, they couldn't not much of anything. What could've been a simple, easy first win for Takagi became more notable with Hashi getting the surprise win. 2.25 stars."

JKOH95 wrote on 19.07.2025:
[4.0] "The inaugural bout of this G1. As always first night gets a couple of big upsets. There was nothing inherently bad about this, but YOSHI-HASHI beating ex-champion Shingo would have rocked as a 20+ minutes main event mid-tournament. Let's see how this goes, a 'I'm doing this for Goto' arc would be cool for him."

And even better Yoshi gets a big win to start off the tournament. Hopefully many more good things are to come for Yoshi in this tournament."

Fucked up my brackets in the very first match lol. Good for him. I expected more from this matchup but guess it just needed to be a passable G1 opener..."

DENDY wrote on 19.07.2025:
[6.0] "I was very excited for this matchup and thought it was a really good contender to open the G1. Shingo is consistently good and having him face off with the Headhunter provided a hard hitting and intense bout. There were definitely some awkward moments, YH is not the cleanest worker, but it was consistently enjoyable for the fairly short runtime. Shockingly YOSHI-HASHI got the win in short order with a Crucifix Driver, delivering a great upset to start the tournament off hot."

[7.0] "The G1 starts in style, with a surprisingly quick upset over the Dragon for YOSHI-HASHI. For the time they were given, this was a fun high-octane match, and the reversal of the Last of the Dragon attempt into the crucifix pin was so fluid it truly has to be seen to believed."
