[10.0] "It may be difficult to understand because of the translation function. This was the best match of both men's careers. Neither of them is a very skillful wrestler, but to think that it would turn out to be such a great match is part of the magic of professional wrestling. DDP's match construction and carries in this match were fantastic, and the exchanges between their finishers were beautiful. The entrances were also great (thanks to Michael Buffer, one of the best ring announcers of all time)."
[7.0] "Probably Goldberg's best match. Everything before the bell made this feel huge. Once it rang, these two delivered. It was a simply structured match, but one that played to Goldberg's strengths while hiding his weaknesses. DDP has been praised for decardes for this match and deservedly so. The crowd loved every second of it. 3.5 stars."
[9.0] "The best match of Goldberg's career by far. DDP got a competitive match out of him that really should've gone longer. It was railroaded by Hogan's ego which is unfortunate. They had a couple of other decent matches but this was easily the best. It also features probably the best counter to the Jackhammer ever."
[7.0] "People say DDP carried and that's true. It's easy to tell that Goldberg is limited and that DDP was the 'glue' to this match, but Goldberg also put on a good match here. While DDP brought technical expertise Goldberg brought the intensity and physicality that the match needed and he showed slightly more variation in his moveset with submissions and not only grapple moves. The Jackhammer reversal into the cutter was great. My only complaint was I thought the match could have had a better buildup to the ending than Goldberg just hitting a jackhammer suddenly and getting the pin."
[7.0] "***.75 / Very entertaining quick match that has consistent development for the entire duration. The competition feel and celebration at the end was great and the trope of them knocking each other down piece by piece until their down to nothing will never not be cool. Great watch."
[4.0] "This is not a good match, I am shocked by this rating, goldberg wrestles worse than karrion kross in this match, and DDP cant punch himself. Same as every goldberg match its a bad match until the spear and jackhammer, super slow as goldberg has no stamina since all his matches are two minutes. Just bad stuff all around."
[7.0] "Best Goldberg had ever and will ever look in a singles match. All DDP on this one. He improved a lot to get here. Still not worthy of a main event, barely beating the opener in quality"
[8.0] "What a damn good match. Babyface vs babyface executed perfectly, good spots, the grappling is good albeit a little rough, good psychology from both, move variety from BOTH. The setups for the finish kept the crowd engaged, and they both looked strong. Goldberg could surprise you every once in a while in the ring, and his athleticism is not talked about enough. DDP is of course great and they showed great chemistry."
[7.0] "Peak Goldberg but Page is so dang good here. The way he hits moves is in stark contrast to the clunkiness of Goldberg, which is not a knock on him. Page has so much offense here that targets the head and neck of Goldberg to set up the cutter. Its just really smart work. The jackhammer reverse into the cutter was an iconic spot."
[8.0] "Goldberg's best match by far. DDP does one of the greatest carry jobs of all time here. Considering before this most of Goldberg's matches were two minute squash matches. This is a real competitive 10 minute match. DDP in hindsight probably should have went over here"
[8.0] "Tolles Match! Endlich musste Goldberg mal mehr machen als Squashes und DDP hat ihn gezogen. Der Kampf wirkte groß weil es so aufgebaut war. Es gab sogar ein wenig Spannung, was man von Goldberg sonst nicht kennt. Ich war positiv überrascht. Page hat im Vorfeld klar gemacht, dass sein Gegner einen Fehler machen muss und das wurde fantastisch aufgespielt"
[7.0] "Defiantly one of the best Goldberg matches I have seen. DDP also looks great here. Not 100% on flow but worked very well. Short match that achieved what it needed too. Crowd were hot on this one."
[7.0] "Easily the best match on an overall crappy card, I'll always hold the opinion that DDP should've ended Goldbergs streak here, it would've been a satisfying conclusion to both DDP and Goldbergs storylines, unfortunately Goldberg wins and ends up losing the belt a little later to Kevin Nash who drops the belt in an infamously terrible way. 7.5/10 would honestly be like an 8.5 if DDP won because aside from the finish this is one of Goldbergs best matches."
[8.0] "Goldberg was such an incredible athlete and an underrated seller. He randomly does a backflip here, moves with an outstanding speed and his strength is one of a kind. Also it's not the first time that he sells his limb - this time his arm - in such a believable way, that I can't think of many people at the time caring to do it. DDP most probably laid this match out and he did a fantastic job with structuring it, knowing that it was a face vs face scenario. They focused on big moves, so the crowd would pop for them and not turn on any of the guys, but when Page finally gave them the drop of hope, that he might just do it, the people got behind him. Really, if you had to watch one Goldberg match it's that one."
[8.0] "After the [insert negative words here] Hogan VS Warrior match, this was brilliant. Easily one of the best matches Goldberg ever had, and a lot of that is down to DDP. The Jackhammer into a Diamond Cutter, only for a kickout at the last moment is a believable spot that pops the crowd. And at this point, DDP could have legitimately won, and now you have a contest that can go either way. So now it's a race to put the other man down, and Goldberg gives it his all to prevail in the end and win. A great little main evet on an otherwise below-average card."
[7.0] "Yeah, this is most probably the best Bill Goldberg match, definitely the best wrestled one, it was fantastic, everything was extremely logical, incredible structure, excellent sellings, it's a pretty good watch. Goldberg was still undefeated, and even though DDP doesn't offer the biggest threat to his streak yet, the match made it look that way, it was a super underdog job, with the match beginning with Goldberg throwing him to the outside several times, clearly establishing a dominance there, but DDP managed to equal things on a reversal, Goldberg went to a spear at the corner, but Dallas Page dodged, and Goldberg injured his hand, which made it difficult for him to do a Jackhammer later on the match. DDP standing up to the 10-count before Goldberg and celebrating is my favorite moment here, such a tiny but clever detail, it was awesome, and he was speared right after that, but Goldberg couldn't immediately do the pinfall because he was selling the hand injury. After a great kickout to the Diamond Cutter, Goldberg recovered and won the match. This is probably Goldberg's best match because everything was so well wrestled and cleverly produced, the details are awesome, and despite the match not having the biggest pop, it's the smartest one, the one that probably had the most thinking into it. This is a great match and a pretty good main event to have after that awful match between Hogan and Warrior, but some people put on a pedestal that I just don't, I don't think it's one the best matches of the year, and there are Goldberg matches were the star power surpasses this one, because DDP didn't looked like a credible threat to me at any moment, despite many people thinking that he should've ended the streak here, and I think it would've been a good choice - {***1/2}"
[9.0] "An above average in terms of pacing and spots bout is aided by the massive intensity of the wrestlers and the undeniable (and justified throughout) big match feel. The.battle of the Finishers is built beautifully for a show stealer of a Main Event."
[8.0] "[3.75*] By far the best wrestled match in Goldbergs career. He went out there and gave a solid technical performance with some limb-work on DDPs shoulder and nice submissions down the stretch. He unleashed his move-set and it was just beast. DDP sold it like he was being murdered and his comeback segments were great, with the all-around famous reversal where he escapes the Jackhammer and immediately his the Diamond Dallas Cutter, an insane moment. Just so fucking smooth. This match had only 10 minutes and it felt just complete, it had a clear beginning, middle and ending, with proper wrestling and big moments. It just felt like a Heavyweight Championship Match. Goldberg was so stiff that when he hit the post it felt like a missile. Like if DDP was shoot escaping for his life. If it was all talked about before than it is fucking perfect because it felt like Bill wanted to murder him in every move, specially the Spear."
[5.0] "Nothing spectacular, it seemed a pretty standar Goldberg match to me, even if slightly better than most. Diamond Dallas Page didn't look strong and I don't think the crowd ever bought he was going to win, they were just there waiting for the spear and the jackhammer as usual."
[9.0] "An absolutely amazing match between both men with amazing in ring action and chemistry and it's easily one of the best matches of their respective careers."
[9.0] "Absolutely phenomenal match. Great atmosphere, amazing big match feel and a great clash of main eventers. DDP is brilliant here and Goldberg doesn't really fuck up. This is one of the best PPV main events of the 90s in my personal opinion."
"I remember watching this at the age of 8 years old, and for the first time, recognising a match as an immediate favourite. It was replaced within a few years by Cactus Jack vs. Triple-H in the Street Fight at Royal Rumble 2000, but I still have a soft spot for this match. Even though it's short, and Goldberg is relatively one dimensional, there is an excellent story here, Goldberg demonstrating his power early on, DDP using his intelligence to battle back, Goldberg's naivety meaning he injured himself, DDP taking advantage, that pop when Goldberg failed with the Jackhammer and DDP hit a Diamond Cutter for only a two count. That moment was probably the best worked hook to lull the fans into thinking Goldberg might lose, and it's a moment that wasn't planned but instead occurred naturally. Part of me wonders how complete the match would have been if DDP had won, but out of context, the story is told very well and both men deserve credit."
[6.0] "Goldberg's most legendary match, enhanced by everything except Goldberg and DDP's work in the ring. The crowd, commentary, and presentation, are all spot on. 3.25 Stars."
[7.0] "This was a pretty good main event. It would be easy to say DDP carried Goldberg, but Goldberg was definitely trying and using moves hes never used before. Goldberg was an absolute powerhouse and worked in DDPs arm. The Diamond Cutter reverse was amazing and got a huge pop, but Goldberg still won with a Jackhammer."
[8.0] "The famous match that aired past its PPV runtime, forcing WCW to replay it on the following night's Nitro, started off with a series of intense and aggressive lock-ups that saw both men tumble to the floor. Goldberg's strength was put over in the opening minutes, as DDP had to work to find ways around him. Page eventually dodged a Spear from Bill, sending the champion crashing to the post. From there, DDP went to work on the injured shoulder, giving him a clear advantage. This led to a spot that I simply cannot praise enough: the Diamond Cutter / Jackhammer reversal -- tremendously well-executed, and the crowd also bought it as a legit false finish! At last, Goldberg executed a hard-fought Jackhammer to score the win, but not without DDP giving him a run for his money. Even though I don't see this as Goldberg's best-ever match, it was by far his finest hour in the ring. His selling was excellent, as were his facial expressions and offensive features. DDP guided him to the end like a true pro, providing all the more evidence of how underrated he is. While far from being the best wrestling match theoretically, this is an incredibly fun bout worth checking out for multiple reasons. [****]"
[8.0] "This was a darn good match, and probably the best one Goldberg had had in his career up to this stage after his US Title win over Raven on Nitro in April 1998. DDP had believable looking chances to win and both wrestlers had periods where they controlled things, but neither of them ever came across as a Heel and you were left with the feeling that DDP might have won if hed been able to make the pin just a little bit sooner following the Diamond Cutter. We got a clean Goldberg win, but DDP gained something in defeat nonetheless, which is the makings of a great Main Event!"
"I love this match. This is a perfect example of why a main event doesn't have to be at least 20 minutes long and have 3 finisher near-falls. It's a short-but-sweet masterclass in storytelling and goes to show why DDP is one of the best minds in the history of the business (he booked this match move-for move). The drama of having the stakes of not only the WCW title, but also Goldberg's streak adds tremendously to the drama of this match. The beginning of this match dictates the style and pace of the remainder, as DDP measures Goldberg and adjusts his tactics and approach to best suit the situation. He begins with tests of strength, with multiple collar-and elbow tie-ups. This doesn't work as Goldberg is too strong, so he alters his approach to think smarter, with a deep arm-drag. This is when he realises to not get braggadocious with the dragon, as he is punished for it. He begins to move faster and follow-up his offense with quick, technical moves, such as Russian leg sweeps and drop toe-holds. Goldberg too learns to adapt though, and begins countering Page's technical chain wrestling. However, Page then counters Goldberg's counters! After Page was drained down by Goldberg's holds, he realised he needed to get some separation and use Goldberg's strength against him, resulting in him dodging his spear. This caused the momentum to shift in his favour. Page hits a big-time DDT on Goldberg and signals for the Diamond Cutter. This gives Goldberg enough time to recover and he gets hit with a devastating spear. Next is the best spot of the whole match. Goldberg goes to lift DDP for the Jackknife, but can't (he sells the shoulder exceptionally well through this match). He perks up and lifts Page. Page then turns this into the Diamond Cutter and the crowd (and I) go absolutely mental. Schiavone with an all-timer call: "Page, Page has got the Diamond Cutter on Goldberg! [...] They're standing in Las Vegas! " Goosebumps every time. But he's too hurt to get the cover. When he finally reaches Goldberg, he gets a 2 and the crowd go crazy. Page goes for a suplex and Goldberg gets a sudden surge of strength and lifts Page for a Jackknife, stalls him for a few seconds, and then plants him. 1, 2, 3. Goldberg retains and the streak continues. What a classic match. Now, despite my obvious personal bias and adoration for this match, giving it 5 stars would be unfair as certain moments lacked technical perfection; Goldberg concussed himself off a spear, later causing the Diamond Cutter nearfall to fall short of the intended 2.99. Also, some of Goldberg's holds lacked believability, such as his armbar and leg grapevine. As anyone knowledgeable in MMA could see they were weak sauce. One element of this match that must be given praise was the commentary. All 3 of these guys provided excellent lines and insight throughout the entire match, which put over both men massively, as well as the aforementioned Schiavone line which will forever live in my head rent-free. This is the best Goldberg match of all time in my opinion and is one of the greatest David VS Goliath matches of all time. Props to DDP for being da man. ****1/2"
[10.0] "Goldberg had such an aura around this time that it's impossible to not get sucked into the atmosphere, the commentary hypes it up so much too that DDP could be the guy through sheer grit and determination. They play the match perfectly with Bill using his power and dominance and Page pulling out every trick he can to stay in it. It's a miracle the finish played out as well as it did as Bill concussed himself on the post (as he was prone to do). For me it's easily Goldberg's best match and one of my favourites ever as a pro wrestling spectacle."
[10.0] "This match is just perfection. The unstoppable Goldberg with the streak bolstering him meets the wily veteran DDP who chooses not to try to beat Goldberg at his own game - brute strength - but to outwrestle him and use his strength against him. Every move has a purpose and they tell a story in the ring without any words, just with pure strategy and calculated moves. Must-watch match."
[10.0] "This match helped hook me into professional wrestling for the second time in my life. This match also flipped me from rooting hard for the everyman, DDP, to appreciating the young up and comer world beater Bill Goldberg."
[9.0] "An awesome match between two WCW legends! Maybe Goldberg's best match of his career, and one of the best DDP matches. This was very good and didn't disappoint. 9/10"
[8.0] "Might be the best Nitro-era WCW match and/or the only good Goldberg match. It would've been better if it was a little longer but compared to WCW standards this is a 5 star match. Good psychology and storytelling, Jackhammer into the Diamond Cutter got a great pop, of course Goldberg had to go over but I think Page still looked good. Seek this one out."
[7.0] "This was a very fun 10-minute match. DDP was awesome and Goldberg was actually really good here as well, and his selling was great. The reversal of the Jackhammer into the Diamond Cutter was tremendous. ***3/4"
[8.0] "The heat for this one was off the charts. Two monster fan favorites going at it with DDP walking Goldberg through his first (and only? ) great match. The Diamond Cutter reversal at the end was brilliant. My only complaint is that it ended so quickly. ****"
[9.0] "I'm sure Page probably came up with the entire match while Goldberg followed his instructions, but to say DDP carried the match is an insult to Goldberg. Goldberg played his role to perfection, which was that of an unstoppable juggernaut with a real presence to him. All of his offense looked great here as he mostly does power moves, but he performs them with a certain intensity that adds an extra oomph behind them. His selling of the shoulder was fantastic as well, able to convey weakness while still retaining his unstoppable aura. DDP plays the underdog wily veteran who picks and chooses his spots while goading the champion into making mistakes. Excellent storytelling. We even get a clean finish to boot, which was practically unheard of in WCW main events at the time."
[7.0] "After 2 bad matches, it's good to see a Main Event that is pleasant to watch. I had completely forgotten that Goldberg was so agile back then, just the fact that he was able to do a backflip. And DDP fought back really well, even if he didn't win. [***1/4]"
[8.0] "Although Goldberg was still green here and couldn't lay out a match to save his life, DDP is here to save the day by laying out every move here and the result is a compelling heavyweight main event that absolutely delivers during the big moments. Goldberg has his game face on and brings the ferocity during the staredowns. All his big spots look devastating and he even does a backflip and lands on his feet during the opening exchanges. DDP was clearly guiding Goldberg through this match and he was tremendous in this role. He would bounce off Goldberg and put over the fact that he's going to need a tank to knock Goldberg down when nothing seems to faze him. Both men brought some excellent facial expressions to the table. After Goldberg misses a charge into the corner, the tide of the match changes as Goldberg looks to be seriously hurt. This was an excellent transitional spot, which Goldberg put over by selling well and DDP looks thrilled that he's finally found an opening. Goldberg is able to land a spear, but his shoulder is still giving him trouble. This leads to some phenomenal finisher countering sequences where Goldberg isn't quite able to get DDP up for the Jackhammer. This leads to DDP hitting one of the best-ever Diamond Cutter counters. The drama is absolutely thrilling during these final moments of the match and they had everyone in the audience hooked."
[7.0] "We need something really good to wash away the aftertaste of that last match. So we get possibly Goldberg's best WCW match ever, or best match period. Goldberg tosses DDP around out of the lockup to a huge pop. DDP tells him to piss off and Goldberg charges, tackles him and they go tumbling out of the ring to a big whooooo and whooaaaa baby from the crowd and the announcers. DDP takes down Goldberg, who flips and lands on his feet. Fireman's carry and armbreaker from Goldberg. DDP up with a jawbreaker and he takes control. Goldberg tosses him and DDP with a neck snap off the top rope. Whip to the corner and Russian leg sweep for two. Front face lock. Goldberg knees out and spins off a neck breaker. Suplex from Goldberg and a sidewalk slam. Back with the arm breaker on DDP. Whip and DDP with a flying head scissors, but Goldberg with a super kick. Goldberg goes for the spear but Page sidesteps and Goldberg rams the post and messes up his shoulder pretty good. DDP with a clothesline off the top for two. Goldberg whips DDP off the ropes with one arm but gets DDT'd. DDP signals for the Diamond Cutter but Goldberg pops up and spears him, further injuring the arm. The crowd is hotter now than at any point in the night. DDP signals cutter, Goldberg spear him and hurts the shoulder again. He goes for the jackhammer but the arm is shot and Page gets out and hits the Diamond Cutter! Page gets a Very close 2 and milisecond of a 3 count. Page tries a suplex but Goldberg reverses to the Jackhammer for the win. Damn good stuff!"
[7.0] "So, this was Goldberg's good match - almost certainly the only truly good wrestling he managed in his career, and it's down to him for once listening to his opponent who planned out a great match. Unfortunately Goldberg manages to concuss himself halfway through the match, but it doesn't spoil things too much and, in a genuine rarity for this time period, a WCW PV finished on a high note."
[7.0] "It had a big fight feel even as both men were walking down to the ring. Page's counter of the Jackhammer into The Diamond Cutter is one of the prettiest and best-executed counters of all time. Without losing any of the aurae that had made Goldberg a star in the first place, both he and Page came out of this dramatic main event looking like true superstars"
[8.0] "This was very good for a 10-minute match, although not Goldbergs best match. Goldberg here would use his power most of the match in order to stay in control. Meanwhile, DDP would have to slowly pick his spots in order to try and beat this undefeated monster. Mostly everything in this match was cleanly executed outside of a couple of spots. Jackhammer into Diamond Cutter was easily the best spot of this match. Just an overall fun match.****"
[4.0] "This match was adequate but nothing more. I have never really been a fan of DDP which does not help. Crowd were super into it though which helped, I suspect they were just happy the previous match is finally over"
[8.0] "DDP carried this match hard and made Goldberg look like a million bucks. Bumped like a madman for Goldberg and ate a stiff looking thrust kick. Fans were really into this match and commentary was great. Goldberg could have sold a bit better towards the end of the match in my opinion. The jackhammer attempt into the diamond cutter was smooth and Goldberg running full speed into the ring post gave me a chuckle. Match holds up today I'd say and even though it wasn't a technical masterpiece, it was very enjoyable so I give it an 8. Full match can be found on WWE's youtube channel."
[9.0] "A classic in every sense of the word. Goldberg had been absolutely unstoppable up to this point, with hardly anyone being able to even land meaningful offense. Enter fan favorite Diamond Dallas Page, who gave Goldberg arguably the best match of his WCW career. The foundation was built early of Goldberg having the extraordinary power advantage over DDP, with multiple encounters sending him crashing to the outside of the ring. Page ultimately realized that his only chance was to use the momentum of the freight train against him and did exactly that with a suspicious tumble to the outside that proved to be a misdirection all along. From there, both men came up with offense that had the crowd on fire from start to finish. Goldberg went for the arm to try to prevent the Diamond Cutter and even enlisted the use of a Cross Armbreaker. Compounded by his signature intensity, this epitomized a big match feel as both competitors went outside their traditional move set to pursue championship victory. Throw in the iconic Jackhammer into the Diamond Cutter sequence, as well as the great counter finish by Goldberg at the end, and you have a true WCW classic. 4.5 stars, 9 out of 10."
[6.0] "Definitely a very good Goldberg match. The second half of it is way better than the first - too much stalling and repeated spots & some awkwardness kinda similar to Goldberg/Regal (but not as much). The fans & commentary team make this fun & dramatic."
[7.0] "This honestly serves as a great example of how far Goldberg has come from his beginnings in WCW. He can sell, act, and work an honestly damn good match with one of the legends of the business. It's well-paced and DDP actually looked like he had been studying and preparing, using his technical skill, wrestling knowledge and quickness to attempt to get an edge on the beast of Goldberg. Both wrestlers come out looking great, while Goldberg still looked deserving of the win. And how about actually getting a good main event at a WCW PPV? Didn't know they had it in them."
[8.0] "You don't need to have good technical skill to put on a good match, and Goldberg is living proof of that. Played as a juggernaut in his prime, he can't go wrong. This match was effectively billed as the clash of two finishers that could kill a match at any moment - the Diamond Cutter and the Jackhammer - which is very clever booking. I liked the spot with the "Diamond Cutter, but can't get the pin", which properly protects both your stars."
[9.0] "Famous match from WCW's ability to be so incompetent that they are unable to time their PPV's correctly. But still, this was an aboslutely class match, especially when compared to the other WCW main events that involved out of prime older wrestlers and non-wrestlers half the time. This was 11 minutes long which makes it super easy to watch. DDP is the ultimate underdog in the match, needing to use his speed and in-ring smarts to try and get any advantage he could get on Goldberg, who was a titan for the most part. He eventually got a chance when he moved out of the way from a Goldberg spear, causing Goldberg to fly into the post. Goldberg's aura is his thing but he was able to perfectly capture pain and vulnerability that came with an injured shoulder while keeping that badass aura of his. His selling was great and it gave DDP the perfect opening to get a BIG nearfall with the Diamond Cutter before Goldberg put him away with the Jackhammer. ****1/4"
"7. 5/10 Possibly the best match of Goldberg ever and the match of the night on WCW Halloween Havoc 1998 pay per view, i dont understand why meltzer rated it so low though . It was a highly entertaining match with good psychology and great selling from DDP . If it lasted a little longer it would receive a way better rating ."
[6.0] "DDP had to do so much in this match to make Goldberg look like he was wrestling. A really good match worked by one guy and then just rapid empty movement by the other. If it wasn't DDP, it could've easily been a dud"
[2.0] "So this is Goldbergs "best" match, and it still sucks, DDP is a good worker and was great in this match but that's not enough to counter how horrible Goldberg is"
[8.0] "Fun match, with good psychology; they have short exchanges but the moves are high impact and the crowd is really into it. Goldberg sells pretty well (he always kicks out at exactly two though, which is hilarious), and DDP is credible, using his speed to get some offense in. They work a short but smart match, with a classic "finisher is hit but DDP can't get back up" to add some tension and get everyone on their feet. Pretty good!"
[7.0] "This was a fine match. DDP foiled Goldberg well, and did a great job showcasing how much of a powerhouse he was through hard sells and bumps to the outside. The in-ring psychology was pretty good, with DDP working the neck and Goldberg's injured arm being his Achilles heel. Both of these were part and parcel to the crowd popping counter-Cutter near the end of the match. Goldberg backflipping out of a leg sweep deserves a nod too. A "feather's touch" rough with the spot calling, but nothing egregious. Short and sweet. ***1/2"
[10.0] ""if they somehow could extend this to thirty minutes it would be *****", what an absurd statement. Main events can be like this - no time wasted, gripping, easily followed, intense from start to finish. You stopwatch-raters can have whatever main events you all are hyping up, I'll take this any day."
[4.0] "This was a fine, perfectly acceptable, professional wrestling match. Yet for reasons that are beyond the understanding of even the wisest of sages, people overrate this match to a degree that goes beyond comical and reaches levels that could be described as absurd."
[9.0] "Wouldn't be shocked if his was the best heavyweight match from a US main promotion in the late 90s. Just a perfectly worked clash of the titans style match which rightfully had the fans flipping out. Opening wrestling exchanges were really entertaining as it was basically DDP trying anything and everything to chop Goldberg down and Goldberg just destroying him. Goldberg tackling him through the ropes and backflipping out of a leg trip is why he's special. He also made an indy-ish twisting suplex move look brutal. Last few minutes were just great as Goldberg sold his vulnerability (including knocking himself out) just right while still retaining his dangerous aura and finishing DDP off quickly."
[8.0] "Really could have benefitted from more time, but as it stands this is a great match. DDP targets Goldberg's arm and Goldberg sells it really quite well. It really felt felt like by the end that DDP pushed Goldberg far. Among Goldberg's best matches. (****)"
[10.0] "I judge matches purely by how much fun they are, and this is a fantastically fun match. It's smart in that it works to the strengths of both men, and at the same time both men step up to the plate and play their roles perfectly, with Goldberg as the unstoppable powerhouse and DDP as the veteran looking for a hole in the armor to hit his surefire shot. I had a blast with this and so did the crowd. Every PPV of Goldberg's title reign should have had matches like this on it. A major credit to the skill of both men."
[8.0] "This match is actually a lot of fun. Short but sweet. Nice technical wrestling by both. Good psych. The crowd is hot! Fast-paced action that really lends itself well to the style of these two guys. If they could somehow extend it to 30 minutes it's *****, but at ~15 it's a fun and solid ****."
[9.0] "This match when it aired on television became the perfect TV match. One of the best matches in Goldberg´s career, he pulls of some nice submissions and versatile offense here. DDP´s timing is perfect. The entrances and introductions by Michael Buffer created a tremendous atmosphere. The psychology of the match was awesome. Goldberg selling the shoulder and DDP delivering hes perfectly placed comebacks. The crowd reaction was loud and spot on. Less is more and in this match everything just clicked. This is an example of a wrestling match that delivers and is also exiting for the casual fans and TV-audience of the time. Underrated match. ****¼"
[9.0] "This was fantastic! A highly entertaining match for only going less than 15 minutes. Definitely my favorite match of both men's career and Goldberg was just amazing in selling the injured right arm and how it effected him being able to use the jackhammer for half of the bout. Some great use of psychology and storytelling and the Diamond Cutter counter of the Jackhammer was awesome! This was great and best WCW match of 1998 and best of both men's career. (****)"
[8.0] "I wasn't expecting too much going into this match but I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. There was no dull moments and it felt like everything had a purpose, good psychology and selling which told a good story, the reversal from a Jackhammer into a Diamond Cutter was also great, my rating ***3/4"
[9.0] "Really exciting, well-build and entertaining match. Build-up itself with it's simplicity was really cool, as WCW already had teased it's fans with Goldberg's & DDP's showdown earlier in the 1998, but this was the first time these two biggest fan-favourites of the company clashed. The fans were really into this one, especially during several near-falls in the match, like DDP reversing Jackhammer into Diamond Cutter. This is probably Goldberg's career's best match ever, which is really surprising as Goldberg ability to work matches like this has always been kinda sloppy, but maybe it's because DDP deserves some credit for it, as he really managed to work his role as an underdog, sell pretty well, and carry Goldberg into classic match like this. Huge credit for both of these two."
[3.0] "Verstehe ich nicht. Tut mir leid.
