Juice Robinson vs. Tomohiro Ishii

[9.0] "Before this match, if someone comes to me saying "I have a incredible banger from JUICE ROBINSON for you" I'm gonna tell this person to fuck off. But man, watch this match made me feel even bad that he injured during the C2, cause a match like this against Brody King should be INSANE! Tomohiro Ishii, well...the best midcard in all history, not blank about it"

[8.0] "This was a great match with some nasty chops, big lariats and hard strikes. Ishii sold his neck tremendously here too. The Juice Box looked amazing as Ishii bounced off Juice's knees and landed on the top of his head. Ishii adding a few wrinkles to his arsenal like the knee drop and Tiger Suplex counter to Pulp Friction were really cool too. I loved the intensity shown by Juice. Just good stuff all around. I think there were a few too many fire-up-no-sell spots and a couple moments of visible confusion on where to go next, but aside from that this was another Ishii G1 banger to add to the LONG list of them. ****"

[8.0] "One of the best matches of the tournament. It was a war and featured some stellar moments. I do think the no selling/firing up spots were a bit much at points, but other than that, this ruled.. It became clear immediately that Juice wanted to wrestle Ishii's style of match. We saw everything from throat chops, to stiff lariats, to awesome back-and-forth exchanges, and so much more."

[9.0] "One year after these warriors had two outstanding matches in 10 days, they met again. And they picked up right where they left off. Changed by separate wars with Jon Moxley, both men took the brutality to a new level. Juice Robinson visibly changes his strategy early, surprising Ishii with his athleticism and grappling. Ishii did what Ishii does, however, and proved why he? s the master of psychological warfare by baiting Robinson into yet another war. Both men changed things up while simultaneously calling back to their previous encounters. Storytelling 101. There was admittedly an awkward moment when Robinson no-sold the Lariat but didn? t seem know how to follow up, but the rest of the match was so damn good that I can? t possibly go any lower than this. An excellent trilogy. 4. 5 stars, 9 out of 10."

[9.0] "This was a hard hitting, stiff and very physical match. The pacing, layout and execution was great. Ishii was great as always and I love the agression that Robinson showed here, it was very unlike any other of his matches. The ending stretch was really great with close near falls and some really beautiful counters. Robinson's best match from this G1 in my opinion. ****1/2"

[9.0] "Ishii and Juice quietly have some of the best chemistry in the company. They had a better match last year, but this was also excellent. With the way the G1 was at this point, it was hard to predict who was taking this which only added to it. Juice continues to prove that he is up there for most underrated wrestler on the planet. And it was just another day at the office for G1 Ishii. ****1/2."

[6.0] "I think I am getting tired of Ishii matches. I was never a Juice fan, I actually don't like the dude at all, but I honestly thought I would like the match. And I did to an extend but... It was another Ishii match. You know the deal. Strike people in the chest and bump with the neck. He's been doing the same match for years now. It's not bad, but it will soon be really boring. ***"

[9.0] "This match was excellent, with Ishii putting in yet another stellar performance and Robinson able to hang in there. Outside of Robinson's matches last year with Tanahashi (New Japan Cup) and White (SF), this was his best match in New Japan."

[7.0] "Juice made the mistake to tease Ishi too much and this became soon an all out war. While admiring Ishi punishing fools is always great, I struggled more to buy the new attitude from Juice. He was really good, but I found hard to see him on the same level of Ishi as far as striking is concerned. Nonetheless, there were some great fighting spirit moments that totally made the match for me. ***3/4"

[8.0] "8. 35/10 - Best of G129 : I get what this match wanted to do - and it gets major points for that - but it was too sloppy & goofy at times for me to be able to get there. Valiant effort and the punishment both men took is undeniably applaudable, but not falling into those flaws would have gone a long long way into making this match one of this tournament's best so far."

[8.0] "I felt like Shingo vs Juice was the best Juice Robinson match I had seen but I think this one topped it. It did get a little sloppy at times with them looking a little lost and visibly taking time to call the next spot at one point, and there were a little too many no-sell moments. Those things keep this from being a 9 for me, but it was a really fun match which made use of its time well and didn't drag at all. Ishii of course is great but Juice seems to have stepped his game up. He's much more entertaining when he's not the fun-loving guy who smiles and dances. He can play rough very well when he wants to. They're building up to the Juice vs Moxley rematch. The result didn't help but the match itself (as well as other Robinson matches like vs Shingo) has me looking forward to that match because Robinson still came off looking pretty good in this one. Hopefully he and Moxley can deliver."

[10.0] "Awesome match! The match played out as Juice trying to step up to Ishii's level. A hard hitting brawl neither guy took shit from the other. Ishii throws throat chops, Juice would fire right back. Ishii's recurring neck problems would rear it's head again in this match and Juice made sure to take advantage of it. Loved how Ishii has to resort to busting out new moves like the flying knee drop and a tiger suplex to put Juice away. Robinson's best match of his career so far. ****3/4"

[9.0] "Well, it's your Ishii match, a cool hard hitting battle with exciting near falls and good selling. Juice was great, he's becoming more and more consistent and this change he's going through right now is paying off."

[10.0] "This match is my new vote for match of the year. Juice showed that he knows how to work strong style. This match was about Juice's pride getting the better of him. He faced off against the best brawler on the planet, and insisted on brawling with him to prove himself. At the end of the day, Ishii was too much for him right now. I hope they have a rematch soon, and have another wild brawl. *****"

[9.0] "This ruled, it is not usual Juice Robinson underdog formula but here he went full strong style mode. Ishii was great as always with his hard hitting stuff but my god Juice brought a lot of intensity and fighting spirit for sure. The near falls, big moves were all well-done. Several headbutts should be cut off but overall still hell of a match."

[8.0] "This is a complete war with them trading hard shots & gnarly bombs all the way through. Ishii's selling is fabulous as usual too, and all in all, it's a very compelling match. Though they did, or Juice did, have a few too many fighting spirit no-sell moments for my liking, but thankfully most of them somewhat worked. Them scrapping some of those moments is just something that could've made the match even more tighter as an overall package than it already was."

[10.0] "That was great, Juice really find himself in this G1, he's adopting a new style, more hard hitting and it fits him really well. This match was a hoss fight between two hard hitting contenders, the first part when they were trying to put the other down and wanting to know who had the bigger shots between the two was great. Then, they set up all the reversals and that was great. The bump Ishii took from the Juice Box was scary but his reversal from Pulpe Friction to a tiger suplex was so great. Overall, awesome match probably the best from Juice's career, on par with his match against Jay White at the G1 Special in SF. (****1/2)"

[9.0] "Probably the best match of Juice Robinson's career. Ishii was amazing as always but Juice showed up big time as well. Hard-hitting, action packed and thrilling for its entire near-20 minute duration. 4. 5 stars"

[8.0] "Match of the night for day 10 of the 2019 G1. They had good chemistry & Juice stood up well against someone who is known as being one of NJPW's ultra tough guys. Commentary is planting seeds well for the impending Juice vs. Mox rematch."

[9.0] "One of the best matches of this G1, as you'd expect when Ishii is involved, but Juice held his own and it was brutal, despite the loss Juice kept showing aggressivity and heart at the same time, a lethal mix eversince his match with Moxley, I expected this G1 to push his new attitude and I'm happy they're doing it, he's looking like a star and this match was awesome, great stuff, felt like a war."

[9.0] "MOTN to me, this was a fucking war and I enjoyed it a lot. Juice Robinson just keeps getting better, a year ago that would be a good match, but now this is a FUCKING AWESOME MATCH! ****3/4"

[8.0] "Ishii with another very good match and performance. A highly physical match with some nasty chops and hard strikes, everything that Ishii excels at. Juice brings his own stuff and sells for Ishii really well. The suplex spot where both guys are out on their feet was great. ***3/4"

[9.0] "This was another very good match from this card. Ishii and Moxley just had a classic hoss fight with lots of hits, collisions, and bumps. Not bad at all. ****1/4"

[10.0] "This was a full fkn WAR that stole the whole show. This is a coming of age match for Juice. His character work ever since the Mox defeat has been outstanding and this may be his best performance till date (I'll put this a smidgen above the Mox match). He took the fight to one of the best strikers in the game and lived to tell the story. Now I can't wait for the new Juice to face Mox on the last day of the league matches. Ishii is hands down the best thing about G1 this year, and he has been just that for so many years before as well. Another classic from the Big Tom! ****3/4"

[9.0] "This was the rare combination of fast-paced but also hard-hitting. Full of nice counters and exciting back and forth with both guys looking tough as nails by the end. Definitely my favourite Juice Robinson match and a strong contender for my favourite match of the entire tournament so far. Just excellent."
