3230.03.2022TheLegitBoss8.0Major improvement from their TakeOver match between Shirai and Baszler here who offered us something better than their previous encounter which I had already liked in itself but which had for me the potential to be better, that's why I was really excited to watch this rematch and even more when I knew that it was a Steel Cage which is a stipulation that I particularly like not for its brutality but because WWE knew how to renew them in their own way while remaining PG. Although it was still not the great match that I was waiting for and although it was still not at the level of their tremendous STARDOM encounter, it was still a very qualitative stipulation match between two wrestlers who are now starting to know each other by heart. It was neither too long nor too short and perfectly suited for a TV show, there were a lot of cool spots like Io's Moonsault from the top of the cage, her German Suplex from the third rope and also Candice's Crossbody. The ending was very overbooked but it was well written, leading up to this crazy post-match angle officiating Shirai's heel turn that would completely change her NXT career afterwards.

3523.05.2021TigerDiver8.0A very good, borderline great steel cage match, capped off by a fantastic angle with Io turning heel. And though I do prefer having Io winning the title here, her heel run had been nothing short of spectacular so I can't complain. [***3/4]

3908.08.2020Garmonbozia7.0Pretty good, Shayna just bullied Io who had nice comebacks. Shayna's buddies and Candice LeRae got involved in this too. The ending was great and the aftermath interesting.

4103.06.2020Wonderllama10.0This was one of my favorite NXT women's matches of 2019! The crowd was going crazy rooting for Io to win. I really liked the finish as it kept both competitors looking strong. Incredible athleticism by Io and an important moment for her character afterwards. This was when she truly arrived in WWE!

5011.08.2019tomlawler0.0This match is annoying, it is the definition of sport entertainment that WWE proposes. Where the match is not thinking but aiming to be a fireworks display. This match is further penalized later in this match is Io who turns against Candice while she loses the match by her own fault. I propose to WWE to go watch the cage matches of AJW so that they take example on how to build a cage game with good psychology.

5302.08.2019Dragon Fighter6.0This match is the reason why I don't like cage matches. It is lame. I have mixed feeling about this match. From the start to until the interference, it was enjoyable for me. Some solid top work from Baszler and babyface comeback from Shirai. And then we got shitload of interferences/overbooking. Io looked like an idiot as usual traditional booking from WWE for babyfaces when she hit the moonsault, which only popped the live crowd rather than some logic stuff. Why did she not jump off the cage or climb down instead. The finish was weird, too. Baszler was supposed to be a badass yet got a fluke win and again, Io looked like an idiot for losing by this way. These 2 can put on great showcase as their match from Stardom proved that but the garbage booking from overhyped NXT ruined everything. Disappointing.

5812.07.2019ZestyZuluWarrior6.0Average TV steel cage match that somewhat defeated the entire purpose of the stipulation. Passable match but way too overbooked. (***)

6103.07.2019Damian6.0Good but overbooked. The finale was smart (even though I hate door spots). Shayna's reign should have ended here, it has gotten tiring. ***.
6202.07.2019Makai Club 8.0I really, really dug the finish to the match. It wasn't a bullshit "kick or punch your opponent into the door allowing them to win, although it was in that mold. Baszler had the Kirifuda Clutch and the only think Io could do is use the cage to get out of it leading to Baszler falling out the ring. It wasn't done as contrived as it usually it. The match was pretty violent early on, teasing being rammed into the cage and building to escapes pretty well. I couldn't care less about the interference spots, not really needed at the extent it was used. Great match. ***3/4
6302.07.2019aka PRI6.0It is a pretty telled match, but the problem is Shayna that is very boring. She doesn't have a moveset and she makes slow the match until the entrances of Candice, Shafir and Duke. Io Shirai was very good with an huge Moonsault from the top of the cage and a solid selling. ***1/2

6929.06.2019NastyYaffa8.0It's your usual Shayna dynamic of her being the bully on top, while her babyface opponent makes awesome comebacks. Shayna is of course really good at delivering a beatdown, and I actually thought that she changed her "usual" a little bit here, by not being so totally focused on one limb, but instead just kicking overall ass a lot. Io sells great - she made everything look very deadly, and I especially loved how vicious those throws into the cage looked due to her incredibly awesome sellin' n' bumpin'. Her comebacks rule in their fiery explosiveness too, and the two big spots (German Suplex, Moonsault) are great. All the Horsewomen & Candice stuff added to the thing too, and greatly raised the drama for the bout without coming off as too overbooked or/and clusterfuck-ish. Also loved the finishing stretch - it first looked & sounded that the heat for the match was dying as Shayna locked in her choke, but as Io showed that she is still in the thing, they got the crowd back big time, and then the whole door-slam thing happened, and I thought it was totally great. Amazing finish. Pretty great stuff all around! Really good, borderline great match, and then there's also a fantastic post-match angle, which makes the whole thing even more memorable.
7029.06.2019Rudakov5.0Oh man, why so many 9? This match is just normal WWE steel cage match, that means it isn`t worth watching. Just a bunch of mediocre wrestling and terrible acting, especially from Io. ***1/4
7129.06.2019Joy Black7.0This is one of the best WWE steel cage matches in recent years (with Gargano vs Black). Io's moonsalt from the tope of the cage was absolutely amazing (and insane).

7429.06.2019arrancar4.0This was kind of bad. I'm a fan of both wrestlers, but I don't think they worked very well with this formula. Baszler started off with an extended beatdown segment, which was fine but ultimately forgettable, and then Shirai got a fine little comeback but it was quickly cut short. Throughout the match both women threw in the usual 'slowly crawl/climb to escape' tropes, which were just aggravating, especially in the second half. Things totally went to hell once Baszler's cronies and Candace LeRae got involved, plus the ref bump. Shirai hit a moonsault off the top of the cage as a means to bring the match back to some sense of semblance, and her form looked good, but the landing didn't look very clean, so ultimately that likewise didn't really impress me. I liked the few creative ways Shirai was fighting Baszler off at the very end, but then we get the stupid "UNEXPECTED" finish where the heel wins the cage match by being knocked unconscious to the floor and thereby 'escaping'. Why bother doing this when Baszler is an established badass? Why did she need luck to win the match here? That was totally unnecessary and just made Shirai look stupid. This match likely just suffered from its short duration. If I got a more actual in-ring interactions then I may have been able to overlook a few of these issues, but they were just glaring. **1/4

8028.06.2019Rocky79.0A very good television cage match that plays with the tropes of past cage matches, but ends up subverting them. When Shirai crawls towards the open door, the camera angle is framed to make you think one of the Horsewomen is about to smash her in the head with the door, but it pans back to show that they're down... only for Baszler to pounce and get the choke. Incredible energy in the business end of the match, and the loss took so much out of Shirai that she decided to turn on Candice LeRae. One of the best WWE TV matches of the year.
