[7.0] "After watching the previous SummerSlam, I can't understand how Vince having in Bret his biggest figure, he gave a Main Event to Diesel and Mabel, this match was great and most of it is Bret going in and showing the perfect execution in work. 7/10 [****1/4]"

[9.0] "Vince is too busy entertaining Diesel and Mable as a top guys and Bret is down here in the midcard and is like...I dunno, give me the guy from The Quebecers. They proceed to have a complete underrated classic on a nothing PPV. PCO is killing himself out here showing how crazy he was early on with a complete summersault over the top rope and smacking the floor. It's just a great back and forth, counter wrestling matchup. It's also so wildly different from everything happening at the WWF in the death zone of 1995. Jean-Pierre Lafitte is a pirate and a bully who stole Bret's jacket. Bret came out and whooped his ass and got his jacket back, but Jean-Pierre looks like a complete bad ass in the process. It's just a shame not everyone is like Bret on the roster because Jean-Pierre could have been something after this performance but just did nothing afterwards because of being in the Kilq doghouse. ****1/4"

[6.0] "This match sort of defines 1995 WWF. A horrible storyline about a stolen jacket where a top guy works with an occupational gimmick. The bout itself is actually quite good. It's energetic, hard hitting, and keeps intensity all the way through. LaFitte's offense on top leaves a little to be desired, and of course Bret elevates anyone he's in the ring with, but I wouldn't call this a carry job. LaFitte holds his own. The problem is no one cares about him. The crowd wanted to see Bret. They were just there to watch him beat LaFitte. If this had a better story, a better gimmick, or some more gas on it, the quality would have elevated it to greatness. Even still, it's a very good match. Just not quite where it could have been if the stuff around the match were as good."

[7.0] "Bret did a cool suicide dive to hot start the match. The story is awful as it's over Bret's jacket and the announcers especially Lawler distract from the match and don't do a good job of putting over Lafitte as someone who is capable of defeating Bret. There are some decent spots. it's a fine match"

[5.0] "I'm sorry, but no. Once again Bret is put in a match with a jobber that will be gone in no time and has to have the longest match on the card anyway. It's stupid as Hart time and time again can't have a decisive win over a midcarder at best, even though he's a former world champion. It's not bad as Pierre is an okay worker and does some impressive stuff here and there, but it drags a lot in some parts."

[4.0] "Wow. I wasn't expecting this match to be so highly rated on here as I did not like this AT ALL. The story leading up to it was silly and stupid. Bret started the match off with an awesome suicide dive and I had high hopes, but from there it went downhill for me. Now I know PCO has a resurgence in the latter part of his career but for me in this match he was sloppy and poor, and Bret has to make the best out of a bad situation. Found myself zoning out of this match halfway through."

They throw some pretty mean looking punches after this. Both men take big bumps in this especially Bret, he did a really good job of making Pierre look like a monster here. Pierre's control segment was good and all of Brets' comeback in this was good.****"

[6.0] "Dumb pirate gimmick aside and stupid story line about Pierre stealing Bret's jacket or some shit aside, this was a GREAT match! Bret is still stuck in mid card hell at this point, but at least he got to work with someone who was capable."

[8.0] "Shock horror, Bret has the best match on the card. I am not entirely sure what LeFittes gimmick is meant to be so I shall just assume it is a kleptomaniac kinky pirate. Bret hits a great suicide dive at the start that nearly goes horribly wrong and LeFitte spends the match taking all kinds of insane bumps. This was real good for the time and still stands up"
Derek Joists wrote on 22.12.2021:
[7.0] "LaFitte is one of PCO's many gimmicks, and not his best one. I guess someone realised he only had one eye so made him a pirate. The match is for custody of Hart's jacket, as with all the titles in one match there's nothign else to fight for. Pierre is a very good wrestler, and we all know about Bret, so this is a very good match, and they do a good job of teasing Hart losing before he gets the inevitable win."

[8.0] "This feud started after LaFitte (the future PCO) stole Bret's jacket. It's a dumb way to start a feud and you could make the argument that Bret was misused throughout the majority of 1995, but this match is a hit! Bret starts the match by blindsiding LaFitte with a suicide dive so brutal that he nearly ends up breaking his own neck! These two bring the hate and trade snug strikes without the match breaking down into a straight-up brawl. LaFitte might be a big man, but he takes some insane bumps during the match. Not only does he end missing three big moves from the top rope, he also lands right on his arse after Bret dodges a somersault plancha to the outside. It's been over 25+ years since this match and PCO is still taking huge bumps like this, and that's truly insane! This match had a big bumps and even bigger near-falls, don't sleep on this match!"

[8.0] "This match was great from the start, with Hart nearly killing himself diving at LaFitte (who I will just call PCO), but eventually PCO takes control and does a great job with some hard hitting offense, it's truly impressive how athletic he is for a big guy. Also, the bump he took outside the ring looked sickening. After a back and forth battle where PCO takes Hart to the limit, Hart is able to overcome a monstrous-looking PCO. This was a really good match. As was the case with his matches with Hakushi, Hart was the true star of this match, who brought out the best of PCO's time in WWE. Great match. **** Side note: this is the first noteworthy match to feature JR and Jerry Lawler"

Both guys take some pretty hard bumps throughout and it's just a really intense back and forth battle. Maybe somewhat sloppy here and there but when you consider the intensity of the match it almost feels natural in a way."

Much effort from them in a long match that has a strong conclusion. I really like the workrate for this fight. ****"

Still I think it's a kind of hidden gem, Bret was characteristically good but LaFitte really brought his A game on another level, that flat bump to the floor is straight up incredible even +20 years later. Too bad the Klique sabotaged him out of the company, he could have been a great midcard player."

[8.0] "Once again Bret showed why he was one of the best wrestlers of all time, pulling a high quality match out of Lafitte whose matches were normally at a standard much lower than this match was. 1995 was a great in ring year for Bret and this match showed that."
