4 | 14.07.2020 | Loki Hipster God | 6.0 | I really enjoyed this match at first - a very hard-hitting, brutal, realistic, ugly, knock-down drag-out fight. Then the match slowed down and lost me as a viewer when they introduced weapons into the array. Dickinson hit Maff with several vicious unprotected chairshots to the head, which was bad enough, but then Maff started no-selling them and I became desensitized to the whole thing. Then Dickinson hit a Canadian Destroyer, arguably the most contrived, overused, and unrealistic-looking move in all of wrestling. Look, I get that all wrestling moves are fairly unrealistic, but there are definitely varying degrees to that realism, and there are some moves that are more of a contrivance than others. Normally I wouldn't have an issue with such a move being performed in a match, but when you're building something as an ultra-realistic street fight, it's probably not the best idea to pull out the one move that completely goes against that. |

It got off to a great start as Dickinson jumped Maff, leading to a very rapid, vicious strikefest. I loved this, especially with how hard-hitting both men's strikes were. The match then sadly slowed down a bit as the weapon spots came out. I appreciated and was rather sickened by those disgusting chair shots Maff took, but I really would have preferred they just kept with their strike-vs-strike formula, because that was where the match was at its most exciting. They of course did return to that every now and then, but not frequent enough for my liking. I LOVED when the crowd did the ECW tribute spot by throwing all their chairs into the ring for both guys to use. It wasn't nearly as crazy as the original ECW incident, but it was a nice little moment for the crowd to reflect how they thought they were watching a match reminiscent of the famous ECW style. Sadly these chairs wouldn't be used too greatly aside from for a few brief power moves before Maff hit a Burning Hammer for the win. Again, the match was so great when it was just both men viciously trading strikes that I wish they had stuck with that formula. It would have been basic, but both men appeared to have had the intensity to carry that style to a compelling match. ***1/4 |

Dan Maff gibt eben auch Gas und so wird das ein ziemlich defitger Schlagabtausch mit gutem Einsatz von Stühlen und einer guten Dosierung von High Impact-Moves. (***¾) |

Dan Maff is still an incredible talent, 20 years into his career, and Chris Dickinson brought him back to the limelight of indy wrestling in one unadvertised match. One of the greatest GCW matches ever, straight out of 1998 ECW. Must be seen to be understood how good this was. In some ways similar to the PCO match against WALTER. Go out of your way to see this one. There's still big man wrestlers out there that are worth a fuck. |
