Adam Page vs. Orange Cassidy

[6.0] "I was surprised that a match between these two was this bad. I don't know if it was bad chemistry or an off night, but this was disappointing."

[5.0] "Fine match here. I was expecting more considering the wrestlers involved. I had a tough time getting invested and the action wasn't enough."

[6.0] "Fun opening contest here with the combination of these two's characters. They worked a fine match but didn't really step it up because they didn't have to."

[6.0] "The thing about me is that I love Orange Cassidy and I love Hangman Page, so this was a good time to me. It certainly could have been better, and I'm sure they have a much bigger singles match in them should the time ever be right, but lackadaisical babyface OC taking on deranged heel Hangman Page is just a fun dynamic for a hot opener. Good stuff."

[6.0] "This was a decent opener. Two of AEW's best wrestlers and workhorses finally cross paths in singles action. Adam Page thoroughly dominated this match from start to finish, with Orange Cassidy using bursts of offense to avoid defeat throughout. The finish was clever, thus rounding a satisfactory opening match into form. 3 stars, 6 out of 10."

[7.0] "A pretty fun opener for the show where both guys looked good and made the most of their time, in my opinion. Page winning was the right move, though Cassidy still looked good in defeat. I especially enjoyed when Cassidy waved to Page and rolled away from the Buckshot Lariat attempt."

[7.0] "Good back-and-forth wrestling action between two polar opposite personalities which made for an interesting showcase of skill and aptitude. Hard-hitting element was present and the transitions were enticing too. ***3/4"

[7.0] "Good match for Hangman. He dominated the match, and his heel mannerisms were on point. Cassidy sold well and for Page and he had some impressive offense of his own. The match did exactly what AEW needed it to do."

[6.0] "Good solid match. Heel Hangman is gathering a bit of momentum here and this was a good place for both workers to move forward."

[6.0] "This was a good match that feels underwhelming considering the names involved. Page looks like he is more focused and not as cartoonish in his heel mannerisms. OC spends most of the match getting thrown around as expected and eventually just loses clean. Good win for Page over an credible opponent to start his year. ***"

[6.0] "This just didn't quite click for me. A couple of times they seemed to be at slightly different paces. Bit a bad match by any stretch, just a decent one."

[7.0] "This was the first match on MAX and possibly the first encounter between Hangman Page and Orange Cassidy, two AEW Originals. This was honestly a pretty bang up way to start off the new streaming era, as these two had great chemistry together. The ending was a bit odd with Page shrugging off three Orange Punches but the Buckshot Lariat in response got a nice reaction. ***1/2"

[7.0] "(Grade:C/***) This was a solid start to the AEW Max Streaming Era, Hangman & Orange Cassidy being the first original of AEW so it'll make since to start the show off with them. It started off nice with some back & forth trying to get one another finishers off. Hangman looked pretty dominant and pissed off with most of Cassidy's antics with I found hilarious at times. Cassidy's pulling some off neat moves like the dueling Satellite DDT. Though ultimately, Hangman got the victory in an enjoyable match. I really enjoyed the overhead/bird eye's view they showed in the match hopefully they keep doing that!"

[8.0] "A great match to start off a new year in AEW, showcasing two of the companies finest talents. Happy to see Hangman Adam Page pick up the win as I felt he really needed it more than Orange Cassidy"

[6.0] "An underwhelming opener to start of Fight for the Fallen and a sign of things to come on this week's episode. This just felt very odd for some reason. The chemistry these two have is somewhat off and certainly in the works at the moment. This seems like a new feud to start of 2025 but I also feels it takes away from the Deathriders story and somewhat lessens it. The whole locker room should be fighting the Deathriders not each other. We had some decent spots here and there especially that outside fallaway slam but we also got some miscues like that delayed Beach Break. [***]"

[7.0] "Man, i freakin like OC. Is entertaining, he have gimmik, he's agile, he knows to wrestle, is a true hard worker, fun 2 watch, he knows when is time to become more serious, extreme, hardcore and brutal. He has everything. He doesn't need steroids because he is built so that his muscles are also useful, not just for sight. I love this new crazy deranged Hangman. The guy is a complete loose cannon like prime Orton back in 2009. Taking out anyone and everyone in his way. Hopefully he will get a title shot and have a good solid run again with the AEW title. Would love to see him vs MJF for the title."

[7.0] "The first AEW match of the year and it's quite a good one. I did expect maybe slightly more from this but even these two working on autopilot for the most part were still able to produce something good. Hangman's heel work was as good as usual and OC put on a pretty solid performance as the face too. There were a few miscues here and there but overall, this was a pretty good match. ***1/2"

[4.0] "2 good wrestlers but they didn't had chemistry at all, also orange punch is now weaker than normal closline."

[8.0] "A good match to start the show. Both men work well together and this felt like a nice enough follow-up to the four-way. 8/10."

[7.0] "real good solid match to kick off the new year for aew and new era. I enjoyed the opening sequence where both men are just going for the big moves out the gate that was a very cool start. Good back and fourth action this is a real solid opener. Good stuff after the match showing hangman's character is still that crazy sick person because the last month that hasn't been to clear. Nice touch him taking out christopher daniels as well but i doubt anything comes from it. 3.25 stars"

[7.0] "Good action that the crowd was into. Felt weird to be rooting against hangman Adam Page for once. The match itself did not have much in the way of stakes but at least it had backstory and the post match more firmly established Page as a heel for the way he kept attacking Cassidy after the match. I'm interested to seecchere Daniels vs page goes."

[6.0] "[3.0*] Very anticipated match, one of the few Original vs Original matches that never happened and it was pretty fun. Not as great as we all expected this match to be for all these years, but at the same time it was pretty damn solid for a 12-min TV opener. As the Maximum Carnage show is in Cincinnati and Mox has some heels behind his back, I hope Hangman wins the Gauntlet next week and challenges him. Not doing Mox vs Hangman after this whole 4-Way mess would be booking malpractice."

[9.0] "Come on, the in ring action was spectacular. Two of AEW's most over members giving it their all and delivering a "slobberknocker" of a match in the process. I'm glad we had this wait so long for Hangman VS OC because the result was fantastic. The post match angle was especially brutal and I am more than okay with that."

"Solid match and a good option to start the first AEW show of the year. Ending was a bit predictable and Orange makes it clear he is losing."

[7.0] "Solid opener between two of AEW's stalwarts who had somehow never faced each other before. I liked the tease of all the finishers right at the start before the match settled down. Hangman got a clean win, but then went mad after the match."

[5.0] "Excalibur tried to cover up the stutter-step on OC's finisher, but actually they had a couple of miscues, weird given they just wrestled as part of World's Ends' main event. A little too cold for the new year's opener."

[6.0] "Very fun match, Hangman and Orange Cassidy are two of the best TV-wrestlers that AEW has in the roster, and this was a pretty cool kickoff for the show in this new era of MAX, the action looked fresh. I understand that Hangman eating three orange punches may sound absurd, but let's face it, the move doesn't mean a lot for quite a while, and it's cool for the match an insane finish like that, it was frenetic - {***}"

[6.0] "This match was fine. I liked seeing the clean win and I think this was solid for TV. The Hangman is taking it out on everyone."

[2.0] "Fair warning, Orange Cassidy is my least favorite wrestler of all time. Some no selling from Hangman to start this. Despite a quick starting sequence, things slow down an go outside the ring for a while. Hangman no-sells 10 punches in the corner. Impressive though, is Hangman catching Cassidy attempting a cross body. Hangman hits a DVD during the pip-heat section. He then no sells some more punches. Cassidy rolls out of the ring like the goof that he is. Then we get the pockets spots. The flippy ddts and stun dog millionaires Cassidy hits take so much suspension of disbelief. Hangman continues no selling kicks from Cassidy. Between all the no-selling, flippy shit, and pockets fuckery, this might be the worst match I've seen in a long time. Don't get me wrong, they execute pretty well here but the content of the match itself is garbaggio to the max."
