3 | 03.06.2025 | FakeNoobe | 8.0 | I loved this match but what really killed it was the crowd. There was like barely any crowd participation. The wrestling itself is masterful and a joy to watch. However if the crowd participated in the match I feel like it would have evaluated the match itself. I think Jay White's antics can get a little bit too repetitive in this match. Kazuchika Okada did fabulous in this match and deserves praise. His reversals were realistic and made the match flow better. I liked how Jay White played possum in this match. It really made the match fun too watch. That being said the match itself is a solid 4 stars. |

35 | 20.07.2023 | 2violent4tv | 10.0 | Going into the match, I read the same kind of comments as I've read for many of Okada's matches, especially the main event ones, where he is accused of starting the match too slowly. Well... that's how you start a long match and it was "played" the way it should have been. White came in super confident, all his holds were coming off, dominating the match, until the snap happened, heralded by Okada's outside the ring crossbody. It wasn't necessarily a storytelling lesson, but it was an excellently crafted match, lots of emotion, drama, a White who kept up with Okada, this after doing the same in his match with Tanahashi. You can't say Okada carried White, he's already earned his spot in the NJPW main event with these two matches, I really liked how he's developed and how he's doing going forward, he has a great future. He's in character now and seems to have a high in ring iq. The last few minutes, in classic NJPW style, took your breath away from all the false finishers and kick outs while not being over the top. |

42 | 26.03.2023 | flightaker321 | 8.0 | I thought this match was really good despite the fan interest not really being there at the start. Jay's early control segment on Okada was really good, and his cowardly heel work throughout the match in order to avoid Okada's attack were also really good. The crowd finally started to wake up when Okada started getting in more on offense, and hit most of his signature stuff. I thought Gedo interference throughout this match was pretty well placed, especially the one that led to Jay White landing a low blow. The counter sequence at the end could've been more spectacular since Okada was winning but it was still pretty good.****1/4 |

54 | 16.05.2022 | Judestar | 7.0 | This match was surprisingly, way more boring than I remembered? The crowd seemed to be tired after a long show and thus there was just 25 minutes of dead air and lethargic work, the match sprung into motion once Okada started hitting dropkicks and that's when it starting gaining momentum. Jay was good at being a shithead heel that the crowd hated, rainmaker kickout and Okada's reaction is still so good, and it's capped off with a great finishing stretch. Fine match, but it's still clear Jay was rushed into being champion when he wasn't ready, and Okada's comeback into the winning the title was equally rushed and signaled the start of his most boring title reign. |

The transitions he and Jay did out of each other's moves were smooth and incredibly well done. I think it sucks that Jay lost the title in his first defense but I imagine he'll hold the world title many times in the future to make up for this first disappointing reign. |

62 | 21.03.2022 | Okaro143 | 9.0 | Slow start that drag a bit due to a tired crowd. Luckily it picked up quite well and the crowd got reinvested in the match. I was actually really surprised Okada won as this was White's first defense. Despite what many say about him, Jay White is a great wrestler and His counter wrestling is one of the best in the world. The final moments were spectacular as most Okada epic main events are; Counters after Counters, back and forth action and close nearfalls, Even Gedo's antics added a bit of suspense. Slow start and an amazing finishing stretch. ****1/2 |

68 | 31.08.2021 | LariatNation | 9.0 | This was an absolutely magnificent wrestling match. The storytelling was compelling from beginning to end, and much like the legendary Misawa vs. Tsuruta match, much of what we saw in the ring reflected real life. That includes the absolutely brilliant closing sequence that ranks among my favorite ever, with Jay White having one last act of defiance to desperately hold on to the title reign that many were shocked he even began. It may not have been quite a five-star match, but I really feel that has become a dangerous measurement for whether or not a goal has been achieved. In this one, the goal was achieved and the story was unbelievable. Somehow, it breathed life into a crowd that was both exhausted and a little unenthused about some of the wrestling they had already witnessed. 4. 5 stars, 9 out of 10. An incredible match. |

**** 1/4 (16) |

The first 15-20 minutes are just plain dull, but I do love the build up to the end. The last 12 minutes or so make up for the lackluster start, but this isn't the 5-star classic I thought it was the first time I saw it. ****1/2 |

94 | 20.12.2019 | arrancar | 8.0 | This was awesome. Okada had never beaten Jay, and Jay always relied on a mixture of underhandedness and genuine cunning to sneak out his wins. The slow start made perfect sense, as Jay dictated the pace, got in Okada's head, and firmly dominating him. Okada, being one of the best in the world, obviously managed to slowly put together some comebacks, but Jay was able to preserve himself by either intelligently countering Okada's attacks or even outright fleeing to avoid them. Those fleeing moments made Jay look cowardly, yes, but he himself has said he doesn't care about the fans' perception, so why would it matter to him if he looks 'silly' or 'cowardly' as he falls to the mat to avoid the Rainmaker or dives into the corner for cover. He knows those acts are going to protect him, even if momentarily, so it totally suited his character and continued the story of how this cheap yet intelligent b*stard managed to out-wrestle one of the greatest wrestlers in the world. The crowd was definitely quiet during some parts of the match (they sat through a 5 hour show with a low ratio of great matches, after all), but they always rallied around Okada, showered Jay in booes, and popped for the big moments. I LOVED Jay kicking out of The Rainmaker. He joins Naito, Tanahashi, and Omega as the only 4 to have ever done so, proving that, despite losing the title, New Japan clearly still value him. Everything after the Rainmaker kick-out was awesome. Jay recovered and hit the Blade Runner, which has never been kicked out of, but was so drained from taking the Rainmaker he couldn't cover Okada. THAT was when we experienced the euphoria of the contrast with the slow methodical opening, as then it was big counters on big counters on big counters, quick movement, and bombs being traded, all with strong conviction from both men. I wouldn't have had Okada win the title back this soon, but the match itself was fantastic. ****1/4 |
