Maybe it was because I watched this on Max, and the replay didn't continued the feed through the cable commercial break. Either way, solid stuff. I'm hoping these two can run this back at some point, where they can just let loose.

From a character point of view, the results are mostly positive too, with Ricochet visibly adjusting his approach in response to Hammerstein's animosity. He's not only embracing the reaction but actively channeling it, operating with noticeable personality. The work is almost secondary right now, but that element remains pretty good here, even if not exactly sparkling. While the runtime proved to be a bullet worth taking, it does bring some bloat along with it, giving this a somewhat listless second act. They do get back on track before the finish, and there are frequent flashes of excitement throughout, but it's not a particularly cohesive hit, unfortunately. Effective TV match, but more interesting than great in my view. ***

Both guys played their roles really well, Ricochet leaning heavily into his new heelish persona and Darby as the banged up and battered underdog. I do think for the story they told it went on a bit long, though Ricochet squeaking to the finals on a draw was a nice heel move. Very good overall.

Darby in the initial moments tried to wrestle a mat-based match and grounded Ricochet until he exploited the conspicuous hole in Darby's armor which was the taped up back. He targeted it ruthlessly throughout assuming control of the match and showboating and gloating every step of the way even imitating the Ric Flair walk. Darby has his flurries of offense but it isnt until later on that it is a long-lasting and impactful comeback, one where he almost scores the victory but the clock proves to be his biggest enemy resulting in a time-limit draw. ****
