Obviously Beast Mortos is there to be the fodder in his particular block but he's always carrying his weight against these top-tier guys and this is no different. Obviously not hurting his support with the crowd, at least with this particular audience in Missouri. Good stuff"

"I wouldn't give this more than a 5/10, but I really appreciate that the crowd gets behind The Beast Mortos every time I see him. It isn't just in a situation like this, where he is the face and Okada is the heel working him over. People genuinely like what he does out there and even cheer for his stuff when he is working normally as the heel. This is part of the problem with AEW, where they make workers be both face and heel on different shows, depending on the matchup. It is just nice to see people cheering for a Mexican worker that they weren't even aware of 6 months ago because of his short resume with the company."

There's nice physicality sprinkled throughout and the people were with Mortos as a de facto babyface, but this is again without a flow or rhythm for my money. There are bursts of quality, because of course, but it lacks cohesion, almost sputtering towards its finish. **3/4"

That being said I dont think their styles worked well together and the match lacked chemistry. Was gonna give this 5 but upped it to 6 for the finish spot where Mortos roared at Okada and Okada roared back!"

[9.0] "My favorite match of the AEW weekend block. Funny, a few years ago the idea of a singles match between these would have felt really unlikely if not outright wacky, but AEW brings together many strange bedfellows and I think we're all better off for it. There was, obviously, no doubt whatsoever about the outcome, in fact it'll be something of a shock if Mortos picks up any points at all in the C2. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he's in the game and his matches have been consistently very good, but I do wish TK would think of something for him to do besides job. Gotta get our weekly 25 minute Adam Cole segment I guess, or so it feels like. Anyway this was another really fun C2 match, a high end TV match that doesn't quite break through into the highest possible tier but is very enjoyable to watch. I'm not really an Okada guy, sacrilege to some I know, but he did a fine job here as he usually does in 2024, he's not exactly swinging for a 2017 level of performance but there's no reason he should in every match anyway. Mortos looked really fun as always, I do think he's a special talent with the look, the size, the surprising speed, the things he can do in the ring are just consistently really fun and I always want to see more of him. The quality and outcome I expected."

A dominant win that got him to show he remains confident and also gave him that nasty edge he should have after taking a loss to Kyle Fletcher. The Beats Mortos also wasn't made to look like an easy win for Okada, he got some great defense in there but was ultimately outsmarted by The Rainmaker which was the ideal narrative to tell in this match. I hope Mortos can still get a win the tournament but even if he doesn't despite being mathematically eliminated has had a great showing"

[5.0] "I don't think I've watched the same match of my colleagues here, this was pretty disappointing, the match haven't picked up at any moment, and despite some cool things, I was never truly excited, the ending was sloppy as hell, after a great comeback by the Beast Mortos, probably one of the only moments where he was treated like a dangerous guy for Okada, the japanese instantly reversed and hit him with a soft clothesline, followed by a rainmaker, in a very mediocre ending. Before that, the match alternated between good and boring moments, a total filler - {**1/4}"

Das selling kam hier leider erneut deutlich zu kurz und das Finish war dann unpassend schnell da. Bei aller Qualität darum ingesamt nur solide"

[7.0] "Good match, obviously Okada won but Mortos showed out again and continues to gain support from the crowd. Both guys are supposed to be heels but the crowd isn't feeling it in either case so that's something AEW need to figure out because it creates a weird dynamic in their matches unless they're going up against someone with genuine heel heat (ie. Fletcher)."
