[10.0] "One of the all time greatest shows and one night tournaments that set the standard for years. Essential."

[8.0] "I see why this show is held in such high regard. Just a whole night of really solid wrestling. If you wanna watch a good one-night tournament, this is the show to watch. Most of these matches really stand the test of time, and I'd say even if this show happened today, it'd still be lauded as a great show. I think my only issue is that nothing here really stands out too much? The final match feels big, especially because of the tournament that came before it, but I didn't think it was that much better than a good amount of the other matches on this card. Maybe that's a strange complaint, but I guess this show just didn't have the "wow" factor that would warrant a higher rating from me. Still great tho!"

[9.0] "This show was incredible and I think it lives up to its legendary status. I can see why a lot of people give this the full ten, and the main reason I didn't is because a couple matches just didn't quite hit the mark. I personally though the MVP of the whole night was The Great Sasuke; what a night he had. It's been a long time since I've seen a good one night tournament in wrestling and this may be the best one I've ever seen."

[10.0] "Historical tournament for a lot of reasons. The lineup for the tournament is absolutely insane, a lot of the wrestlers in this really started to get hot after this tournament. Found this on dvd and yeah this was just fantastic front to back"

[7.0] "This is good fun and an easy watch, but it doesn't really hold up at all as a classic. I wasn't overly impressed by either of the two famous and classic matches here, but most matches were good, and only a couple were bad, and even then, they were only a little bad. A solid show."

[10.0] "While the tournament may not be rated as high when compared to other major tournaments that came after it - at the time, it really was the greatest tournament to have been booked for well over a decade. Several characteristics are clear from this tournament: 1. It was the show that made Hayabusa known on a national scale, despite it only being 1 match, and his NJPW debut. 2. Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero had a match where they didn't use their real names. 3. It was the show that took an Indy Darling in The Great Sasuke and turned him into a legend overnight. And 4. This may be the 1 tournament where you can enjoy Chris Benoit at a more innocent time. Every Great Sasuke match in this tournament is timeless. Even if you missed the rest of the show, his matches were golden."

[10.0] "The greatest single night tournament in wrestling history, and one of the most influential events ever held in the history of wrestling as we know it. The matches still hold up in 2018, and I expect this event to remain timeless. Watch this if you haven't, it will always be enjoyable."

This definitely stood the test of time and I can't imagine what it must have been like to experience it firsthand. Simply incredible."

[6.0] "This tournament is widely regarded as one of the best in wrestling history, but I honestly found it just alright. Here are my individual match ratings. Malenko vs Gedo ***. Otani vs Delfin ***1/4. Black Tiger vs TAKA ***1/2. Samurai vs Mogi **1/2. Casas vs Fuji **. Hayabusa vs Liger ***1/4. Gedo vs Delfin ***. Pegasus vs Black Tiger ***1/2. Samurai vs Sasuke ***3/4. Liger vs Fuji **1/2. Pegasus vs Gedo **3/4. Liger vs Sasuke ***3/4. Pegasus vs Sasuke ***1/2. Obviously a lot of the booking disappointed me. I would have loved to see Malenko, TAKA, and Hayabusa all have their booking rearranged to allow them to have gone further in the tournament, especially Hayabusa whose incredible high flying skills could have added a lot more than Gedo, Fuji, and Delfin, who were all average to bad performers who went much further than they should have. There were plenty of better matchups possible here, but I can imagine backstage politics caused drastic changes to be made to keep other promotions happy. Of the 13 total matches, I only found 5 to be good or very good. The rest were average or bad, and none really met the 'great' threshold, which is really my major criticism of the tournament. How can a tournament be 'great' without any great matches, after all? This may have been astonishing in its time, but I've seen plenty of other matches from this era and earlier that still stand the test of time, and the matches in this tournament sadly did not."
