[6.0] "While the original One Night Stand was certainly a more faithful ECW show than this one was, I definitely think this was the better of the two as a total package. The intimate crowd makes it such an experience. Balls/Tanaka is the only subpar match too, making it an extremely consistent show. Of course, RVD's biggest moment main events the show, but I think Foley and Edge vs. Funk and Dreamer is probably match of the night. For ECW fans, this was a roaring and maybe their LAST success. And even for a WWE fan, there is a lot to love about this show. Truly a night to remember."

[9.0] "An almost perfect show. I understand people are upset that it didn't capture the same energy as One Night Stand 2005, but it wasn't supposed to. It was supposed to be the very start of the new ECW. It played off current storylines to establish it as a powerful entity, which it mostly did. It did have some reunion matches like the international tag match and Balls vs Tanaka but most were played off current storylines. Now time for match reviews. Taz vs. Jerry Lawler was a throwaway opener that was never gonna be a match. It was simply Lawler slapping Joey Styles before his match with Taz, Styles jumping on Lawler's back, then a Tazmission to win in a short bout. Kurt Angle vs. Randy Orton was a fun opener with a lot of amateur wrestling taking over a majority of the match. The crowd hated Orton and embraced the new Kurt Angle. FBI (Little Guido & Tony Mamaluke) vs. Super Crazy and Tajiri was fine. It was what you'd expect from all four men before Big Show came out after the match and just plowed through everyone (including Big Guido). Rey Mysterio vs. Sabu was one of the three highlight matches of the night. We saw some good action from both guys before the stupid double-knockout finish to protect Sabu from losing. Terry Funk, Tommy Dreamer, & Beulah vs. Mick Foley, Edge, & Lita is the second highlight match with just another insane deathmatch style tag match with so many barbed wire and fire spots. Balls Mahoney vs. Masato Tanaka was the weakest match of the night if you aren't including Taz vs. Jerry Lawler. They really didn't mix all that well but it was still serviceable. Rob Van Dam vs. John Cena was the last highlight match of the night with the most feel good moment of the entire show. ECW needs a champ to establish the brand and RVD was an amazing choice. The action was good and the crowd ate Cena alive, wayyy worse than they did with Orton. Edge helped RVD win and now we have a brand new ECW & WWE champ. Promo wise, Paul Heyman cut a good thank you promo (which isn't listed on CageMatch) and JBL cut an amazing heel promo that helped get some more heat on him. 9/10"

[7.0] "This was a really good PPV, but it failed to capture the magic of the original; an original which was mainly held together itself by ECW nostalgia. There's more focus on WWE stars, with Angle (I don't care if he was on ECW's show, he's no ECW original) versus Orton opening the show. A few matches could've given a bit more than they did, such as Balls v Tanaka and the ending of Mysterio v Sabu. JBL shows up and cuts a promo for seemingly no reason other than to get heat while he can, and Eugene shows up. I almost subtracted a whole point for Eugene's segment, because it was just plain atrocious; why not have JBL cut a promo, then have Sandman return to attack him? That could have combined the elements of the show in a way that makes sense. Instead, we got a heel promo with zero comeuppance, a solid two minutes of uninterrupted Eugene poetry, and the world's most meaningless Sandman return. To top things off, RVD v Cena also revolved around more WWE talent than ECW - Edge spearing Cena through a table was about as extreme as the match got, and allowed RVD to win. The match then became more about the storyline of Edge being #1 contender than RVD winning the championship. Overall, the whole thing wasn't bad, but knowing what happened to ECW after allows you to see how the sanitization of the product began immediately after ONS '05."

Orton/Angle is not bad but kind of boring and the crowd lets them no it. Tanaka/Balls is better left at home. Nice to see Taz choke out Lawler one last time even if he couldn't do much anymore. Good JBL promo. Shame about what the weekly show turned out as."

[9.0] "Tazz Vs Lawler was just a squash, Mahoney Vs Tanaka was whatever, the FBI tag match was mid and overall it's a step down from ECW One Night Stand (2005) as it showed what ECW as a third WWE brand would be like, but Angle Vs Orton is good, Mysterio Vs Sabu is really amazing, RVD Vs Cena is absolutely brilliant, Edge, Foley and Lita Vs Dreamer, Funk and Beulah is just spectacular and the crowd was molten red hot throughout the entire show. Overall ECW One Night Stand (2006) is such a fantastic show."

[8.0] "This is such a memorable PPV mainly because of the crowd and RVD winning the WWE championship. The show starts with a fun match between Kurt and Randy, then a good tag team match between FBI and Tajiri with Super Crazy takes place. Rey vs Sabu was great but the finish was bullshit. The next match was the second best on the show, such a bloody tag team match with the wrestlers using all kinds of objects. After that theres a cool short match and finally the big main event of the night. John Cena vs RVD, what a match. This is one of my favourite matches of all time. The crowd, RVD winning the championship and Cena being technichally a heel is all great and they end up being a fantastic match."

[7.0] "Compared to last year's One Night Stand it was much better, mainly because the main event was an actual great wrestling match and not some nostalgia bullshit. The atmosphere was on a same, incredible level and I loved the WWE vs ECW angles as these had a clear babyface and a heel and not just some hardcore bollocks without having anybody to cheer for. It still had an awful 6-Man Tag that went on for too long, plus Mahoney vs Tanaka was bad, but at least short, but everything else was at least acceptable. Angle vs Orton was fantastic and it was a great preview of the main event, the Tag Team Match wasn't anything special, but still a decent, enjoyable contest, Mysterio vs Sabu had some stupid moments, but they still tried to make some kind of sense out of that and the main event was a classic with a phenomenal atmosphere and a brilliant work from Cena. But for me personally still the biggest highlight was JBL's promo who just had to piss off the ECW fans and I loved every second of it"

[10.0] "The best ECW PPV of all time. Oh yes, I said it. Don't let the match star ratings fool you, as this show seems to have been well underrated. The crowd energy here is at times on par with the 2005 ONS, but the matches are generally better, including a superb main event which remains a favorite match of mine to this day."
GimliJr wrote on 22.06.2024:
[8.0] "The show was driven by its extraordinary atmosphere, particularly during the main event, which was exceptional (9.5/10). I also enjoyed the Sabu/Mysterio (7/10) and to a lesser extent the Angle/Orton (6/10). The 3v3 was certainly brutal but too sexist in my opinion (5/10). Especially as Edge is adored in babyface at the end of the show. The men's tag was rather banal (5/10) and the 1v1 pre-main event clearly had no business being there. Finally, the segment between Tazz and Lawler was a bit of fun, but I'd have put it in the pre-main event rather than the opener. The other angles were also good, whether it be the presence of Big Show, and especially the surprise arrival of Edge and Heyman's final count. Show seen on WWE Network. Match quality: 2.25/4. Quality of angles: 1.75/2 Bonus/Malus: +1 for atmosphere but -0.5 for sexism. Total: 8.5/10"

[10.0] "Fucking perfect PPV. Except for the mid balls mahoney match. Idk why the first One Night Stand is rated higher than the second, especially when the second has a much more iconic moment, but thats fine since theyre both 10s imo. but holy shit. There were so many sick moments and matches in one night it was awesome. I feel like they did a very good job reviving what ECW was all about in a very authentic manner. Especially the crowd and leaving them uncensored. The show starts off with a bang as Jerry the Chomo Lawler get squashed by Tazz with 2 zs which is kinda weird for ECW but whatever, which is just complete fan service which you're kinda gonna see all night long as they wanna keep the ECW crowd happy. Not much of a match so Im not gonna rate it but seeing Jerry get chocked the fuck out by Tazz is pretty cool. I think I heard that the match was so short because Tazz couldnt wrestle anymore due to some health complications or something idk but they still wanted Tazz to play a part in the show as he was a significant part of ECW's hayday."

Sure that the show wasn't perfect, but neither was the previous show, this still had some ECW-esq moments, if you look over Mysterio and Sabu's ending. Rob Van Dam winning the title was perfect, the crowd was legendary, Taz choking out Jerry Lawler was satisfying, the 6 people tag match was an ECW match with some WWE flavors mixed in, all made for an entertaining show."
Frank Shooter wrote on 25.05.2023:
[9.0] "This is a little below the previous edition because ONS had more emotion for being the first ECW show in four years, and maybe the only reunion show they could have after the closure, but this was a great PPV, launching a brand that felt ok at first and then became a show no one cared about. It had great matches like the Hardcore Tag Team Match and the Main Event, John Cena having one of the best performances of his career, characterwise, RVD winning his first World Title, Kurt Angle looking like a monster demolishing Randy Orton, the crowd going nuts... It had more filler matches than 2005, but it was good to see guys like Tajiri or Masato Tanaka again. One of the greatest PPV ever."

[8.0] "This show was very good, but inferior to the first. It was never going to hold the same magic the first show did, especially since they had the plans of ushering ECW as a third WWE brand around this time. That meant that WWE guys were going to wrestle on the show. It was not entirely bad though, it actually worked and brought some fun matches like RVD vs Cena, Orton vs Angle, and Edge & Foley vs Dreamer & Funk. This show had fun matches, and some good quality, but the original is always better."

[9.0] "This is a fun show with great moments. Rey/Sabu was a great car crash while it lasted, shame about the finish that didn't really sit right in an 'ECW' match. Cena/RVD is a very memorable and entertaining match but I want to talk about Edge, Foley & Lita v Funk, Dreamer & Beulah - a brilliantly disgusting match. Foley and Funk really sacrifice themselves here, Funk especially - man nearly loses an eye but comes back triumphantly only to end the match having to be cut out of the barbed wire. It's really scary and uncomfortable at times but it also rules. There are also scary barely-rotated moonsaults off ladders and uhhh, a weird sexy pinfall. Probably the best WWE branded match not to be in the matchguide for whatever reason - it's so much fun."

[9.0] "Personally my favorite event in all of wrestling. But feelings aside I want to look at this show for what it is. This event was such a great event with only a few knock backs to it. Taz vs Lawler was very short but still memorable. FBI vs Super Crazy & Tajiri is good, but still forgettable. Mysterio vs Sabu ended in a way fans didn't like. Balls Mahoney vs Masato Tanaka is only memorable for the chair shot. The highlight of this show is the fans. You will never see a crowd getting so emotionally involved into a card. Even if you don't like the guys in a match the fans make you interested. RVD and John Cena was such an amazing match, even considered a once in a lifetime match up. The Six Man Tag just shows how extreme these wrestlers can get and it makes the match that much more memorable. Andgle vs Orton is a great back and forth match that once again the fans make so much more memorable."
Y2Jamie wrote on 26.02.2018:
[7.0] "Not as good as 2005 but still a decent show. RVD/Cena isn't the greatest match in terms of action in the ring, as I felt it was sloppy in points, but the atmosphere in the arena and Cena's response to all of it makes it must watch. The 6 person match was ok, the storyline going in I don't buy (Foley aligning with Edge) but Terry Funk's selling is brilliant. Mysterio/Sabu is good although too short and the finish is a cop out (I don't buy Sabu being unable to continue. ) Tag match is forgettable, fans were happy Tajiri was back (so of course they don't keep him around. ) Balls/Tanaka is nothing just a match to give the fans a rest before the main event. Angle/Orton is ok, you would expect much better from these two though. Tazz/Lawler is done to get Tazz on the show, nothing more than that. Crowd elevates this from average to good honestly."

[7.0] "The 2005 One Night Stand was as perfect a reunion and sendoff to the original ECW as one could hope for, and remains one of my personal favorite wrestling shows. A year later, on the eve of the resurrected ECW brand, they did it again, but this time it didn't quite have the same feel. Where the first ONS genuinely felt like the company coming back for one final time, the 2006 edition just felt like a WWE show held in a classic ECW venue with a bit of a harder edge. There were plenty of ECW stars around, but nearly every match featured at least one current WWE roster member (and the first full-length match, Angle vs. Orton, featured two wrestlers who had nothing to do with the original ECW - not counting Angle's almost-signing - having a straight-up WWE-style match. To be sure, there was some good stuff here - the RVD vs. Cena match was very enjoyable and succeeded in showing Cena as a fish-out-of-water being forced to adapt to the extreme environment, and featured some fun stuff with the crowd (Cena throwing his shirt into the crowd only to have it repeatedly thrown back). Rey vs Sabu was fun while it lasted, before being cut short due to Sabu's injury. And the Dreamer/Funk/Beulah vs. Edge/Foley/Lita match was an extreme brawl that hearkened back to the old days. For all it did right, though, it was clear by this point that the magic was gone, and that feeling would carry into the ill-fated ECW "rebirth. ""

[8.0] "It's not the best One Night Stand (2005 ONS was perfect) but it is a strong one, a good mix between older ECW and WWE in 2006. The two WWE titles matches are great, the crowd was wild. The 3 vs 3 is interesting, Mahoney vs Tanaka wasn't as good as I expected. Kurt Angle vs Randy Orton another solid match. So it's a great event that moves things nice with the WWE Title."

Seriously? ). Mysterio vs Sabu could have gone a lot better with more time. The 6-man tag was hard to watch but it was a great hardcore brawl and made me respect Terry Funk even more. The main event was very good though, the very hostile ECW crowd made for some interesting interactions by Cena. Overally a pretty good show, and by far the shining moment in ECW's WWE run."

[9.0] "While not quite as spectacular as the first One Night Stand, make no mistake this was a great show. The build up on WWE had been great to watch, with guys like Sandman and Sabu appearing on Raw and Smackdown, Sabu even challenging for John Cena's WWE Championship. The WWE v ECW story was seriously well done this time, and the crowd were super hot, especially when taunting WWE's big names like Orton and Cena. The actual match-ups are okay - the finish to Sabu/Mysterio was disappointing but it was fun to watch until then, the six man tag featuring Mick Foley and Terry Funk is messy but insane and tons of fun, and the main event has one of the hottest crowds you'll hear, many hilarious situations like fans repeatedly throwing Cena's shirt back to him, and a great match too. WWE's revival of ECW eventually failed, but with the way the two One Night Stand PPVs were, fans would be forgiven for thinking ECW on Sci-Fi would be truly great."
