[7.0] "The last episode of the "oval stage" era for SmackDown before moving to the fist setup the next episode. I find it amusing that whenever a wrestling show is going to have a new stage setup, they use the advantage of destroying the old set. Rhyno goring Chris Jericho through the video screen will always be a massive highlight in history and one of the more famous examples of a stage being destroyed to make room for a new one. This show was definitely building up to SummerSlam, and I for sure enjoyed the main event, particularly Kurt Angle grabbing Austin in the ankle lock."
[7.0] "Good show. the highlight is probably rhyno GORE'ing jericho through the giant smackdown emblem on the stage, in the name of stephanie's honor. The two tag title matches were boring but I understand why they did that. Basically they have been setting up the Undertaker/DDP big match but they realize these two will bore everyone to death, so it has to be a tag match instead. I'm good with them being self aware. I love every Tajiri match we've seen recently. Would really love to see a 15+ min match with him somehow. Not listed here as a "match" is a long fun segment with The Rock, Shane, and Booker T. It was a promo that sorta turned into a match with no ref, so there was no official beginning or end. It was pretty good, with Rock putting Shane through the announcer's table as revenge from last Raw. Again, though, the self awareness is nice that the WWF realizes that Booker T vs The Rock at summerslam will be a snoozefest, so adding Shane in there is sure to keep it interesting and keep me awake. The main event was pretty good. It was nothing crazy but it was a good long match that really put Angle over as even a bigger face (crowd was chanting USA USA USA) and vice versa, Austin as a bigger heel than he ever has been. Shitting on the pledge of allegiance/being anti-american, that's something usually only wrestlers from other countries do, so this is fun really. There weren't a ton of backstage stuff or skits, but what I'd like to comment on here is that I really like how they've stopped referring to this as WCW and ECW vs WWF and simply "the alliance", which is a lot more accurate here. They're finally over the terrible invasion garbage where the company was being "invaded" and now it's just like a very large faction, sorta like how the NWO was. Although I hope they learned something from NWO in that this kind of angle can get very old very quickly if the biggest plot is basically "who will join the alliance? ". This show it was Test, and nobody really cared. That's how NWO was at the end, everyone joining and nobody caring."
[6.0] "Solid show overall. The undercard matches and feuds weren't anything compelling, but Rhyno goring Jericho through the stage was a great moment. They did a good job building the two World Championship matches and that's really what counts."
[5.0] "I thought this was an alright show but nothing too crazy overall. Van Dam and Edge were having a good match but as expected from this time period is that it ended with an interference ruing the finish. Rock took on Booker T & Shane on his own making them look weak. The gore though the pod was the highlight of the night. The ending angle with Angle and Austin was great."
