[8.0] "Although there were a few disappointing matches, the bouts between Konosuke Takeshita and Hirooki Goto, and between Yota Tsuji and Ryohei Oiwa, were both fantastic, so I think it was a good tournament. Since Oleg Boltin is essentially a "big man, " it's not at all unusual for squash matches to be interspersed among the official bouts. The idea of staging a brawl in the restroom--a clever twist on the criticism directed at Great-O-Khan--was also entertaining. Outside of the official matches, Hartley Jackson put in a strong performance. The rivalry between Zane Jay and Tatsuya Matsumoto is also intriguing."
[5.0] "Callum Newman & Zane Jay vs Tatsuya Matsumoto & Toru Yano: An underwhelming opening match that had no G1 preview about it and felt mainly like a card filler [*1/4]. Daiki Nagai & Drilla Moloney vs Aaron Wolf & Taisei Nakahara: A fine tag match that Previewed Wolf versus Moloney and they had some preview action, Nagai and Nakahara had some time and Nagai getting the win was good to see [**]. Dick Togo & Ren Narita vs Masatora Yasuda & Yuya Uemura: A fine tag team match that previewed Narita versus Uemura, Togo was just Togo and Yasuda was fine [*3/4]. Hartley Jackson & Zack Sabre Jr vs Gedo & OSKAR: ZSJ and OSKAR facing off seems intriguing and this match was just fine just before they face off, Jackson got another victory in non tournament action [*3/4]. Boltin Oleg vs SANADA: For a tournament match it was over quicker than I could blink, Oleg winning was good to see [*]. Yuto-Ice vs Jake Lee: A terrible match that had ref bump that was not needed and did not get any better but not surprising with Lee involved, the only good thing was Yuto-Ice getting the win but that could not have saved this [DUD]. Shingo Takagi vs Great O-Khan: The brawl into the toilets before the bell rang was ridiculous, the match was not good despite Takagi trying to get a half decent match but did not happen unfortunately [*1/4]. Yota Tsuji vs Ryohei Oiwa: These two had a great match with both putting in a great amount of effort, Oiwa could have done with getting the win against the heavyweight champion but Tsuji winning was good all the same [****1/4]. Konosuke Takeshita vs Hirooki Goto: Hard hitting action throughout this main event, the flow of the match was what it needed to be, Takeshita winning was good to see but Goto could have won and that would have been good to see as well [****1/4]"
[6.0] "There's some real shit in this (ask Shingo), but the top two matches are good. This show might actually have the single best and the worst matches of the G1 so far. Boltin vs Sanada was the right kind of short for me. First G1 match of the night, features a guy who is best kept away from long matches, and feels like a short competitive match rather than a squash. I liked it for what it was. Then you get what is probably the most embarrassing match of the tournament in Jake Lee vs Yuto Ice. O-Khan follows that by sticking Shingo's head in a toilet, which is not some kind of euphemism for O-Khan's match quality. Oiwa and Tsuji then have a really good match, my favourite of the G1 so far. I liked that one so much I didn't think I'd be able to get into the main event, but Takeshita and Goto did well and I ended up liking that one as well. The potential is still there for New Japan but the company allows a lot to get in the way of that these days. Tsuji vs Oiwa is one of my favourite matches of the year and I'm still sitting here wondering if I'd even give this show a '6'."
[5.0] "Back-to-back poor G1 cards. This one wasn't as bad but nothing stands out for me. I feel like there's a real disconnect from the younger generation of 'stars' in being able to convey emotion and telling a story beyond just being able to have crisp action and occasionally hit an emote or two. This was especially on display in the main event with Goto appearing desperate as always through facial expressions, groans and moans, making sure to pay attention to his selling... Take's fire is just no longer selling after being beaten for an extended period. The two matches prior to Tsuji vs Yuya are baaaad, too. Poor night of action. **1/2."
[6.0] "A superb main event and thoroughly enjoyable semi main unfortunately let down by the tournament matches lower down the card. Yuto Ice v Jake Lee may have been the worst tournament match of the Tour so far. The toilet shenanigans of the Khan Shingo match were saved by a decent showing by Shingo over the match entered the ring."
[9.0] "A wildly uneven G1 show where the first two A Block matches were genuinely awful, but the final two completely salvaged the event with some of the best wrestling of the tournament so far."
[5.0] "A frustratingly uneven G1 event that spent much of the night below expectations before finishing with two exceptional tournament matches. Those outstanding final bouts significantly elevated the card, but they could not completely overcome the weak undercard."
[6.0] "A very odd night of action if i am honest. I did enjoy the opener to be honest nice to see the power boltin has finally be used to squash someone very quickly. The next 2 matches were two of the worst of the G1 so far and had me questioning my life choices to watch this show man. Because no matter how much i personally enjoyed the opener as i like Boltin a lot. 3 matches in this show was looking rough as fuck. Thankfully we got a top 3 match of the G1 in the fourth block match of the night and another Tsuji banger. Then the main was another quality hard hitting match between one of the best in the world and the wonder unc. SO overall i give it a 6 as i can't ignore how bad the show was looking after the first 3 matches."
[8.0] "3 class G1 matches. Sanada and Boltin was very short but excellent and the final two matches were absolutely brilliant. I mean the Jake lee match was dogshit and o Kahn remains a dud, though despite the pre match brawl - in no less than a fucking toilet - the match did end up becoming perfectly fine."
[8.0] "Two great main event matches, and I didn't find the O-Khan and Jake Lee matches better than their other efforts. The Oleg squash was also a great way to give him even more credence."
[6.0] "What a night of nonsense. I mean that in the best possible way. We get three gonzo matches in a row. SANADA getting smashed clean in less than two minutes did my soul good to see. Yuto-Ice having a candidate for Worst Match of the Year and Shingo Takagi getting his head dunked in a urinal did the opposite. Fortunately the main and semi-main were both enjoyable in a turn-off-your-brain kinda way."
