[10.0] "It was a great event especially in the second part. The last two matches was awesome. The rivalry between Oiwa and Yuto is very good and they will fight for the IWGP Heavyweight title in near future for sure.In the main event i didn't expect Tsuji to lose the title that soonbut i don't have problem with Newman winning the title. He develop really quick year after year."

[7.0] "Nothing MOTY level for me but a very solid show overall. No real awful matches and a lot of very good. Could be a very memorable card to look back on given Newman becoming the youngest IWGP HW champion ever. 7.5/10"

[7.0] "A below average undercard complete with Taichi jobbing out to Ospreay for some reason, an OK TV title defense with an interesting teaser (Return of SANADA? ), an amazing tag title match that is just one inch away from being a 5-star classic, and a really disappointing main event both in term of results. Newman is like Triple H in that YouTube video. He wants to be a top star but he has zero charisma and zero chances to win fairly against even midcarders so he resorts to dick kicks. Right now Newman is probably the worst among all NJPW champions (even worse than Yasuda and Sapp)."

[7.0] "While this event could set the stage for a bright future for NJPW, being objective, the whole show wasn't great--the first half was... Tedious, to say the least. Seeing Ospreay back home and Newman hitting the top of the promotion was a lot of fun, and not to mention that instant classic from the Knockout Brothers. I think a 7 is a fair score for the show."

[5.0] "Sakura Genesis was a pretty dismal show. The undercard was entirely disposable and the Knockout Brother's match was OK but not good enough to justify the praise its getting. My particular ire is reserved for the main event. Tsuji loses the belt in a very weak reign to an undeserving Callum Newman. I don't want to see anymore AEW melodrama but all indications point to them doubling down on it. NJPW continues to flounder."

[6.0] "I know it's a dirty word to use when discussing Japanese wrestling, but at times, NJPW could really do with a little westernisation, if you could call it that. At least in so far as their booking of big shows. Western companies at the very least don't fill up 80% of their tentpole shows with shitty multi-man tag matches and it's something I'd personally like for NJPW to address. On the plus side, there was a pretty good 6-man in United Empire vs Desperado, Taichi, and Uemura. Knockout Brothers might be on the best string of title defence matches in NJPW since Okada's legendary IWGP reign. The post match didn't excite me but these guys are on such a roll that I'll look forward to whatever they're doing. KOB vs TMDK was a really fun match. The main event was also okay, though I still think it might act as further confirmation that Tsuji doesn't shine his brightest in NJPW epic style matches. Also, Tsuji's reign sucked, I'm sorry to say. Starting his reign by being literally clowned on by Jake Lee was such a bad decision."

"I thought the card had promise, some matches didn't live up, but none were absolutely horrible. did love the Gabe kidd spot tho and always love an osprey njpw match. I've been trying to be more consistent with watching njpw and this is the 3rd LIVE card I've watched from them. also, MY FIRST TIME SEEING TH KNOCKOUT BROTHERS, WHERE THE HELL HAVE I BEEN? ! overall, decent show with a sleeper tag match and an "odd" decision to end the show! cant wait to see where they take Callum!"

[8.0] "A perfectly fine New Japan card -- indeed, one of the better ones in recent history -- but there's something missing. Undercard is standard as can be -- faction tags perfunctory but not bad, except for the House of Torture dross -- except for the United Empire tag match, as Ospreay ends up being the rising tide that lifts all boats. Takeshita match was fine, not the best but also not the worst. Knock-Out Brothers match was, as always, sublime. And the main event, whilst not the way I would've gone, was pretty decent too. Just, like I said, just missing something."

[6.0] "The main event was very enjoyable, a solid match for the tag team championships, but the other six matches didn't seem very successful to me. The multi-man matches lacked stakes, and the Takeshita vs. Umino match was just a frustrating opening act. The post-match segments offered some interesting appearances, including a mysterious masked man, but I wish Ospreay had been more consistent with his morals and hadn't let Newman get away with a low blow. In-ring quality: 3/5. Angles and out-of-match segments: 0.75/3. Pros/Cons: None. Total: 5.75/10. Show watched on NJPW World."

[8.0] "This show had a very strong two-match ending but was held back by the excess of pointless tag matches. The last three matches were awesome with Newman picking up the victory becoming the youngest ever IWGP HVYW champion ever at 23 years old which is an absolute feat. The tag team championship match was awesome and the TV Title match between Umino and Takeshita was very good until the time limit draw. There is too much filler and nonsense on this card before then though and the tag matches with House of Torture weren't great. Grade: B-"

[8.0] "This show had way more mostly pointless tag team matches than I want a signature New Japan show to have. Compare it to last year's Sakura Genesis which out of an 8 match card, had six singles matches and six title matches and this one was pretty lean in Stuff That Mattered by comparison, but the stuff that mattered on this show, boy howdy was it good. The final three matches were all excellent and the main event was exciting from both a wrestling and a storytelling standpoint. New Japan isn't perfect right now, particularly when there's a big House-shaped elephant in the room, but it feels like there's a lot of exciting directions going on up and down the card and they're FINALLY elevating some of these younger guys and doing real meaningful things with them. They're well-positioned for a very interesting Summer."

[5.0] "New Japan has been creatively bankrupt for years. Will Ospreay taking over creative control was not on my bingo card though. But he's clearly positioned his protege in a top spot, one he can give a real heavy-handed rub to. Ospreay influencing New Japan now is no different from the Bullet Club melodrama back in the day. Difference is, they still had Okada, Tanahashi, and Naito then. Structurally this was a tough show. Yujiro and Chase should not be anywhere near this far up the card. Takeshita and Umino were destined for a time-limit draw. And while KOB and TMDK had a legit banger, seeing the people who appeared to stake their claim after was sad."

[8.0] "The undercard was fine, but once the title matches got underway it got better. Hartley Jackson & Kosei Fujita vs Master Wato & Togi Makabe: A fine opener that saw Jackson pick up a decent win against Makabe, fine action to start the PPV [**]. Robbie X, Shingo Takagi & Taiji Ishimori vs Francesco Akira, Jake Lee & Jakob Austin Young: A fine undercard multi man tag match, Shingo getting the win was nice to see even if it was not surprising [**1/4]. Aaron Wolf, Tiger Mask, Toru Yano & YOH vs Don Fale, DOUKI, SHO & Yoshinobu Kanemaru: A normal standard undercard HoT match, Wolf continues to look decently strong [**]. Great O-Khan, HENARE & Will Ospreay vs El Desperado, Taichi & Yuya Uemura: Best undercard multi man tag match on the show, great to see Ospreay back in a NJPW ring in Japan at Ryogoku Kokigukan and getting the win, the action was as solid as it could have been [***1/2]. Boltin Oleg, Hirooki Goto & YOSHI-HASHI vs Chase Owens, Ren Narita & Yujiro Takahashi: A fine title match, just what you would expect from HoT, Oleg and Bishamon retaining made sense, some okay action [**1/2]. Konosuke Takeshita vs Shota Umino: A great back and forth match from start to finish, the time limit draw was okay but would like to have seen a definitive winner [****]. OSKAR & Yuto-Ice vs Ryohei Oiwa & Zack Sabre Jr: Another great match between these two teams, they have great chemistry and the in ring work was great throughout, would like to have seen TMDK duo win but KO Bros retaining was good to see [****1/2]. Callum Newman vs Yota Tsuji: A great main event, better than I expected it to be, Newman winning the title was nice to see, Tsuji put up an absolute decent fight even in defeat, the action was really well delivered [****3/4]"

Angles were hot, wrestling was good, storytelling was solid and the booking was inspired. Nothing to complain about (other than, of course, the continuation of the Chase Owens push)."

[6.0] "This show felt like a setup for bigger things to come and I'm at least somewhat invested in where certain stories are going. Unfortunately, asides a stellar tag title match and a pretty solid main event, the potential directions were more compelling than a lot of the action (which I know is by design but still...). The tv title match was especially a let down. I'm very much curious about how forbidden door plays out with Kidd playing company heel, but more importantly, Ospreay asking the united empire for help with the death riders. I wonder if Don Callis ties to the group will matter and if Aussie open in their current form become a factor but idk if I can trust these bookers to tell a compelling and cohesive story with all these narrative threads asides delivering some cool matches. I'm new to the BOSJ so it'll be interesting to see how that plays out and KOB have new contenders. Takeshita's booking seems lost at sea in both companies though. As for Newman, he has his strengths but as a full package I'm not completely sold, which is why a compelling story will be needed for this run to feel satisfactory and at least the pieces are there so we'll see."

[8.0] "This is New Japan's best show of the year to date and the best show I've reviewed this year in general. The undercard is solid and we have a few good matches (Ospreay's six man tag + the main event), my favourite Takeshita match of the year thus far but as expected, KOB vs TMDK steals the show. New Japan's tag division is their best asset currently and everything the champions are in currently is a resounding success. ****1/4."
