117.10.20259spade9club7.0A small qualifier... this is my first POW event, so take my words with a grain of salt. But, if they help the product improve even a little bit, that's a win in my book. It's also entirely possible that no one ever reads this. If so, that's ok too. Overall the show was good. Better than many products you see on national television week in and week out. I do have some criticisms, however. My biggest one is that way too many people got color. The dog collar match should have color and I can see ONE of the two title shots to the head in the tag match resulting in color, but not both. No other match needed it or benefited from it. I'll also point out that it was distracting noticing the referee hand the gig back and forth to both wrestlers in the dog collar match. Another small criticism is that the commentary team telegraphs everything. Pinfall near the ropes? Commentator will mention it if there's a rope break, otherwise, expect a kickout or finish. Will they use the Freebird rule? Commentators mentioned it so of course they will. Better to not mention it and be surprised when they do it. Caleb Teninty v Kidd Bandit - 14:07 - 4.0: Not a lot to say other than it kind of felt like it dragged on. Both are fair performers and need the work that they're getting. The rating is not a condemnation, but what I would expect the opener of a monthly show in front of 100 people to look like. Caden Cassidy v Brenden Roys - 7:06 - 6.0: A match I enjoyed. Both guys seem comfortable in the ring even with a couple of weird looking spots. I wouldn't mind seeing Caden at the next level. Jonas Albert Robinson v Naomi King - 9:18 - 4.0: Debut for Naomi, so the intent is apparent. I didn't expect a lot here and this one met expectations. A major criticism I have on this one is that Naomi seemed to spring back to life immediately after the bell after being "knocked unconscious." I know it's your first time but sell it a bit longer. Jackson Price v Chuco Bumm - 2:06 - 5.0: The shortest match on the card by a mile and it suffered for it. Both competitors are more talented than the time they were given. I understand this was supposed to be a squash match, but why? Price is already massive. Let him give a longer beating to the "jobber" opponent. Give the underdog a small amount of offense to give him some false hope. Would have liked to seen this one get more time. Chase James/Hooligan McGuinness v King Naja/Kris Brady - 7:29 - 7.0: A solid tag team match that kept me entertained throughout. The post-match swerve was a nice little cliffhanger that makes me want to watch the next event. Gunnar Thorson v Joey Thorton - 14:43 - 7.5: I watched a dog collar match not too far from where this one happened at Mac Court in Piper's Pit some 25 or so years ago. Both this one and that one were excellent matches, but this one edges it out. I enjoyed every second of it, even though some things could have gone better. It genuinely exceeded my expectations and look forward to more out of both guys. Cole Rivera v Zeb Saint One - 8:20 - 6.5: More great action from guys that I didn't expect to give what they did. I'll say that I'm a Cole Rivera fan now. If this was his debut, I see no reason why we can't see him compete on larger stages. Big Anne/Charly Avell/Daemon Void/Sobalvarro v Matt Brannigan/Sledge Hammer/Jack Hammer - 14:51 - 6.0: You put your main champion in a 4 v 3 handicap match. The sea of humanity in the ring makes it difficult to care about the champion or the championship. I don't necessarily expect the title to be defended at every show, but I also think there should be fewer guys in the ring with the champ to maintain his prestige. Ocean Avery v Marcus Eriks - 8:58 - 7.5: Why does a debuting wrestler immediately get a title shot? Marcus Eriks won the title at the last event so there's literally an entire locker room of guys who should have been in this position over Ocean Avery. The match was still superb and both men deserve a bigger stage, but it was hard to ignore the new guy getting a title shot thing. Flamin' Aces v Hess Clan - 12:39 - 7.5: Great match. Both Aces getting color was extremely distracting, especially considering the belts look like they're made out of foam. I know they're not, but they also don't have the same bulk that other promotions' championships do. I could justify one guy bleeding from the title shot, especially considering it's the main event. Spencer Scott looks like a natural in the ring and like many others I've mentioned prior in this post, I can see him existing in the big leagues some day soon.
