[3.0] "The May 24th, 1999 edition of WCW Monday Nitro ends up being another one in a long line of poorly booked Nitros since the rebrand. The only GOOD Nitro we got was the April 12th, 1999 edition. It's insane to see how much programming and storylines have plummeted all in one month. This show was extremely boring from beginning to end. No good matches, No good segments. Nothing. The Main Event storyline is just Savage and Nash and lipstick...What? Hogan's back now and he's coming for DDP! I'm interested in that. That screams big PPV match. We also saw the cruiserweights get buried tonight by Hugh Morrus and David Flair wrestle. Not good whatsoever. [*3/4]"
[1.0] "Speaking of worst shows of the year, this one probably tops the last one! Incredibly boring, some Piper terrible where he's incredibly sexist is the low, the high is the Horseman split. A whopping 25 minutes of wrestling over 6 matches this entire show. We get the Hennig Rap is crap song. The young guys are starting to be unsettled in WCW, which leads to a Hugh Morrus push? Okay. Hogan gets a promo in his return which is basically just him saying he doesn't like the direction of wrestling and he's gonna save it! And beats up DDP. Notable matches set for the PPV: Piper V Flair, Macho V Nash (Main event), Raven/Saturn V DDP/Bam. Overall, incredibly boring and unwatchable."
[0.0] "Again, it's hard not to look at the match card before watching. This... doesn't look good. Well we open with DDP and Bam Bam beating up Raven and Saturn, DDP seems to be done with the world title for now. The show starts off quickly with Chavo Jr. vs Van Hammer. Might be the soonest the first match started I've seen. It's... competitive? Ish? Van's in control most of the time, Chavo gets his fair share of hope spots. Very traditional short sweet David vs Goliath type match. Nothing bad, nothing memorable. Disco Inferno promo for... some reason. He talks about Savage. Ernest Miller interrupts him and insults him for being a crybaby. This is all super mid. nWo is watching this backstage and sic's Scott Norton on Miller. Norton beats Miller up a bit and runs them off. What in the house show was this? El Dandy gets the same "Lose to David" thing, but.... aged poorly. Buddy gets angry for Flair not giving him what was promised so he gets a Horsemen match tonight. This dovetails into a Ric promo. We're setting up Savage v Nash at the PPV. Elbow Drop banned. More yelling at Piper and Eric. And now we're getting the El Dandy match promised, it's short. This angle feels dumb? Buff Promo because Macho beat him up too. Simple Steiner call out. Match later. We then get a longwinded Bischoff political ad about giving him a 2nd chance to run WCW. It's so self indulgent. CW Battle Royale seems interesting. Oh it never gets outside of the "Lets Just Brawl" stage because it's 10-12 men until Hugh Morris(not a CW) clears house and causes a no contest...... why? Roddy is cutting an inane nothing promo. Calls out Randy and the three women that come to the ring with him come out. Sexism ensues. Ric saves them from Crazy Roddy. DDP and Bam Bam help Ric. This sets the Tag Title match at the PPV. And Ric vs Piper at the PPV. Again. Now The Horsemen are seemingly turning on Flair because of the said title shot at the PPV. Now the main makes some sense. Curt Hennig is on coms for the BLP match. It sounds like we're about to go into the "Rap is Crap" era.... whyyyyy? The match itself is largely nothing, not a squash but the level right above. Come back from commercial into Buff vs Rick's title match. Real rote Steiner promo first, but ehhh, lot of tonight has been loud charismatic shouting without a real point. The match is okay enough. Both these guys aren't great at this point and it only exists to further the Sting Luger feud as the DQ exists because Scott and Rick were ready to paralyze Buff when the Sting Monster Truck came out and distracted them, leading to a 5 count. Again... why? Konnan and Perfect brawl over music taste. Hugh and Jimmy challenge Rey for the title. This isn't actually a match. It's just them tussling for a bit, Hugh beating down Rey, then Konnan and Kidman making the save. Just simple angle stuff. Hogan promo time. He's also in the deranged shouty style, talking about how he doesn't like anything he sees on TV. Even more no substance Nash follows him up. Nice n basic over babyface promo. Macho's entourage interrupts. Then Savage beats him down. Lipstick on Nash again. Crowd cheers for Goldberg. I question my sanity. Main Event Time. The surprise that Piper got the horsemen is great. Match has a big fight feel. It's 100% heel theatrics. Dean isn't in gear, I assume he's hurt. It's just a lot of heat and nothing and then boom Saturn and Raven interrupt to get back at DDP and Bam. Not only was it not good they take away any chance of getting a finish. Then as a stinger Hogan has seemingly beat up DDP with his crutch. This was a show. That's all I can say. The wrestling was nonexistent, the promos were nonsensical. Yeah everything was about story, at the expense of this being wrestling. This was a bad 2 hour indie vingette based film with short, generally weak, interspersed fight scenes."
[1.0] "This was an atrocious episode of Nitro, with not one good part thtroughout the show. Very bad matches, most notably David Flair vs. El Dandy, Van Hammer destroying Chavo, and Hugh Morrus squashing all the cruiserweights in the battle royal. The main event was also a complete nothing match and the main storyline involves Savage drawing on Nash's face with lipstick. Yeah."
[1.0] "It's amazing how quickly Nitro deteriorated in 1999 after being very strong still in 1998. The best match on this show is, incredibly, the 3 minute opener between Chavo and Van Hammer. David Flair beats a lucha legend, Hugh Morrus (of all people! ) squashes the whole cruiserweight division, the incredibly annoying Bagwell works babyface against the washed up shell of Rick Steiner, and the main event is a muddle, plus never miss a chance for Savage's weird trio of women to come out so the "funny" faces like Nash can make gross slut jokes about them."
