[5.0] "Another disappointing WCW Monday Nitro that is hugely plauged with booking issues. Out of the whole night we had 2 good things happen and that was DDP/Sting and Psychosis/Mysterio Jr. and it was 5 minutes. We opened with a Ric Flair skit in the Mental Hospital and it is absolutely insensitive and poorly booked! Then we got Roddy Piper coming out as an annoying babyface nobody cares about! Konnan vs. Brian Adams was largely boring and it ended with a dumb DQ finish and a story nobody cares about. Then The Armstrongs defeated Raven for whatever reason...Robinson fired Piper out of nowhere even though he isn't fired so now it's confusing. Then we have the pinnacle of this show. DDP vs. Sting in what could be the best match of 1999 for WCW. This was really good on all accounts and had me on the edge of my seat. Then we get a lot of filler I'm gonna skip then we get to the main event and wow this Main Event absolutely blows! They give the title back to DDP and make Savage a heel out of nowhere for the "shock" value when nobody was shocked and they forgot Goldberg had an injury. Actual clusterfuck. Overall, this Nitro was...very in the middle, we had a lot of good and a lot of bad. [**1/2]"
[6.0] "Well on to episode three, I won't lie that the things I see on the card and previous ratings impact how I see things, it's impossible not to. I have hope here Opening with a quick tribute to Rick Rude and then a recap of the Flair insanity angle. Real whiplash here. The first actual contents of the show are a skit with Ric in a mental hospital. I will not comment on these in depth, they are terrible and tasteless. Now Charles Robinson is in charge of Nitro with Ric out and... this isn't going to go well. Now we've got a Roddy promo, which is a set up for the whole of the night. Getting a precedent for the reasoning behind the Sting match. Roddy gets arrested. 15 minutes into the show we get our first match Brian Adams vs Konnan. It ends when the nWo comes out and beats up Konnan. Honestly Konnan is super over and when he's allowed to do things this looked like it could have been good. But the crowds highlight was Adams getting kneed in the balls. It was half an okay match that became nothing because it wasn't supposed to be anything. Now we've got a 2v1 Armstrongs vs Raven match. Ravens Rules. Because Saturn and Kidman got beat up by 4HM and can't be here. The brothers keep conveniently forgetting the ruleset tho, until they do and pin Raven with a chairshot. This... made everyone look bad somehow? Armstrongs were getting manhandled by Raven, Raven loses to one chair to the back. Repeat 2nd paragraph. Recap same thing. Flair skit... whyyyyyyyy. And Robinson's out... and he fires Piper. This whole bit feels like it was put together to make a Charles in Charge joke. Sting v DDP time. What I've been waiting for. The crowd is white hot for this. Genuinely good match. Probably be truly great in the era. God that finish was solid. It was a true "Big Match" circa 1999, and it's basic DNA I can see years down the line in "Big Matches" around the world. Like 3/4ths of it would be fine in 2024. Rey vs Psychosis for the title Rey just lost. For a 5 minute match it wasn't *bad*. Both guys are capable of so much better. This really exists to further the Tag Title Story, with the CW belt being kinda pointless. Nash cuts a promo, he's setting up the main event because he lost his shot at DDP. Did people back then feel the looming sense of dread from this that I do? I wish these Ric things didn't exist. Bam Bam vs Eric Watts felt shorter than the entrances. No wonder he didn't pan out. Sting's replying to Nash. He accepts to stop the "whining in the back". Booker vs Meng is an absolutely solid little match that was going well if it was going to be too short. Then it had a ref bump, confusing interference, and a post match brawl. Meng and Booker can put on something so much better, but the nWo sucks everything into it's vortex. Now we're getting recap of Hogan's injury, and time with his Doctor explaining why Hogan is amazing for working thru what he's been dealing with. Eric's telling Hogan to get surgery. Hogan wants to work thru it...... ACTUAL FOOTAGE OF HOGAN'S SURGERY. And now Scott Hall shows up in one of the Ric skits...... Hardcore Four Way. That wasn't fun. That wasn't good. Mercy on the crowd. Macho vs Scott. Scott pushes Randy into Robinson. Robinson calls the match. Dogwater. This exists to further the Robinson George match. And we get Madusa training George.... this should have been left in drafts. Main Event Time! Ric made it no DQ. Dread seeps in. This is dumb, chaotic, stupid. It's fun yes, but god at it's length it couldn't be good. Interference never helps. This could have been a good match if it were a PPV match with 20 minutes. Instead it just undoes the goodwill the crowd had with Sting winning. Send em home sad I guess. This wasn't a ***bad*** show. It had highlights. But god are long stretches of it boring at best. And the worst of the show's shown up with the hardcore match and the Flair skits. 6/10"
[7.0] "Better Nitro than some recent episodes. DDP vs. Sting was pretty great as advertised, and the other championship matches were short but fun, including the chaotic main event. Cringey skits with Flair in the mental hospital and Randy Savage is completely toast physically despite being swollen to the breaking point with steroids."
