[8.0] "Sold show. Triple threat for the Openweight title the standout. Diego Hill showed promise in his debut in an exciting match vs KUSHIDA. The Skyscrapers could be a formidable duo in MLW in the future."
[7.0] "Pretty strong card. Ultimo Guerrero/Hammerstone/Justice was my favorite but Kushida/Diego Hill was extremely strong. Riddle/Kenta hit expectations. I liked pretty much everything on this. Yuki Kamifuku/Wakana Uehara I feel like I'm missing something or maybe it didn't translate that well to American audiences. One of them is an "idol" which I assume is a singer or something. I've seen worse though and it wasn't like it was bad. Genuinely liked everything else on the card. Opened strong w/Bishop Dyer on the tag match. I always like Greene and Brock has gotten pretty solid. Worth a watch."
[5.0] "KUSHIDA vs the debuting Diego Hill was a solid bout and the best of the show, and I also enjoyed the Guerrero-Hammerstone-Justice three-way. The rest of the card was pretty average, including a Riddle-KENTA main event that was just OK. Brock Anderson had an OK but somewhat random singles match against Anthony Greene, which makes it feel like there's no real plan in place for the Rogue Horsemen following the War Chamber loss - I guess we'll have to see. The other most remarkable aspect was Dijak and Dyer (FKA Baron Corbin) making their debut as a team, and I do like the pairing, but considering how little they were able to do with them, it's hard to see Los Depredores' run with the belts as anything but transitional."
[6.0] "Bishop Dyer & Donovan Dijak vs Magnus & Rugido: An okay match to get the show started, Dyer and Dijak winning the titles were not surprising even though they were surprise challengers, Magnus and Rugido did what they needed to do and that was help Dijak and Dyer look intimidating and dominant, they did get a few pieces of offense in but could not get the job done and retain the titles [**3/4]. Brock Anderson vs Anthony Greene: A very basic singles match that had not much memorable about it, Brock getting the win was good to see as he is a promising wrestler, a simplistic style worked match that was fine at best [**1/2]. Yuki Kamifuku vs Wakana Uehara: As much as I wanted to like this match, I just could not sadly, it was awkward to watch and there were some mistakes that were noticeable [*3/4]. KUSHIDA vs Diego Hill: Hill had a great showing even in defeat, he tried to overcome the veteran KUSHIDA in what was a good match that I enjoyed throughout from bell to bell, KUSHIDA winning was fine but would like to have seen Hill get the win [***]. Ultimo Guerrero vs Alex Hammerstone vs Matthew Justice: It was a fine three way match that had a couple of memorable moments but largely it was okay at best [**1/2]. Matt Riddle vs KENTA: I actually rather enjoyed this match, they had a decent back and forth showing, Riddle retaining was nice to see as was expecting KENTA to win the title, a solid main event match to end the show [****]"
[5.0] "Yet another average MLW show. I'm kind of getting tired of repeating myself but MLW keeps uploading stuff for free so I'll keep critiquing their product. This is almost a totally skipable show besides one match and one surprise appearance. Kushida and Diego Hill had the best match of the show by far and probably the best match I've seen in MLW yet. If MLW were more interested in booking matches like this instead of late WCW tier storyline with washed ex fed guys then maybe people would be talking about them more often. MJF also made an appearance to attack Mistico hinting at a rematch, maybe in MLW or hopefully somewhere else. It got a pop but MJF didn't have anything of note to say. Most of the matches were middle of the road forgettable except for the Joshi match which was sloppy as hell and the main event which was an absolute borefest. It's not the worst MLW show by any means I mean it offered one of the best matches of the month but at least their bad shows have something to talk about. This was mid af"
[7.0] "I thought this was a pretty good showing from MLW. The surprise MJF appearance alone made the show memorable, and Kushida vs. Hill was a pleasantly surprising match of the night. The tag title change was also a cool moment."
[6.0] "MLW continues their run of solid 6/10 replacement level wrestling. I'll keep watching as long as it's on YouTube but they are lacking that great up and coming star that was the hallmark of the promotion since it's rebirth. Now it's just a good place to keep up with how over CMLL guys are n in the states and how a select group of WWE releases are doing."
[4.0] "I went to this show purely because the options for indie wrestling in NYC are pretty limited and it was $20 and walking distance from my place. It still wasn't worth it. I'll keep this review to just the two hours of streamed content and save my dislike of the preshow taping for when that airs in August, but I will note: the preshow taping absolutely spoiled the main event for the live crowd, as it had a challenge for the next heavyweight championship contender that involved someone beating up Riddle. It's honestly amazing just how little MLW cares about their storytelling. I know no one thought that KENTA had a chance, but if your main event championship matters so little that you're fine revealing the result to people two hours before they watch it, maybe don't book the match? The high point of this show was Diego vs KUSHIDA, a very good match that got the largest reaction of the night with the novel idea of being good pro wrestling with fun moves. I guess I'm glad to see Diego sign here; the MLW commitment is basically one taping every two months so it's not like he's going to be too busy to work in better indies. The Shotzi vs Everett segment was silly because we had just seen that match live, but I guess it was fine. I thought Wakana vs Kamiyu was really solid and had the most grappling and mat work of the entire night - not the smoothest or anything but surprisingly over in front of what was otherwise one of the most obnoxious crowds I've ever been in. Another segment that was terrible live was the reveal of Dyer and Dijak as the mystery tag team, when they'd each already appeared on the taping individually. What a letdown that was. You know your "surprise tag team" angle sucks when I'm finding myself thinking "the Good Brothers actually would have been an improvement here." I was excited to see Magnus and Rugido but very let down by this match. I'd say Dijak and Dyer could be a good fit as tag champions, but I don't know if they're going to really grow into it when they're going to have at most one match together every month. It made far more sense for MLW to have the tag belts on teams that existed outside of the MLWverse. MJF appearing was fine. I kind of think heels doing surprise appearances outside of their main company is dumb because they're going to get face pops, but he still got a ton of boos mixed in with the MJF chants. It is funny that I've seen MJF twice in this building and the first time he was feuding with the guy from Wheatus and the second time he was feuding with Mistico. Quite an upgrade (no disrespect to Wheatus). I have no notes on AG vs Brock or the three-way; both were watchable-enough 2.5* matches. But I do need to call out the main as a particularly awful match. I have seen KENTA wrestle enough on American indies to know he isn't going to put in any effort - and I've seen his matches with OZAWA this year so I know that he's not washed, he just doesn't care on this side of the Pacific - so I had my expectations low. I hate Riddle, but I figured he can work the vaguely-MMA-ish style that could gel well with KENTA. And honestly, when they actually had proper exchanges, they looked pretty good! I think they could have had a good match if they wanted! But they didn't want to have a good match, and the crowd didn't want them to have a good match, hijacking the start of the match singing Randy Orton's theme and with one obnoxious guy screaming things at KENTA to the point I was shocked he wasn't thrown out of the venue. It made me long for the days when I saw a guy get thrown out of La Boom for screaming at Ethan Page for like five minutes straight. It's wild to think Gabe Sapolsky ran a less sloppy shop than Court Bauer, but here I am missing late-stage EVOLVE, of all companies. Also a bunch of idiots kept trying to too-sweet KENTA. These same idiots also kept doing the too-sweet-whoop-whoop chant; maybe in addition to missing the news about KENTA leaving New Japan and Bullet Club they also missed the news about why Marty Scurll hasn't been around so much lately. Anyways, KENTA and Riddle got the match back on track, but there must have been like eight minutes of action in this 17 minute match, and of course, with the finish known to everyone in the building who had shown up for the taped portion, there wasn't much drama. This was a bad show. You shouldn't watch it, and you probably shouldn't go to MLW, even if it's only $20. It might not be waste of your money, but it sure is a waste of your time."
[6.0] "MLW's best show this year so far in accentuating positives and lessening negatives. My two favorite matches of the show were Diego Hill/KUSHIDA and KENTA/Matt Riddle. The remaining other matches of the show were solid including moments such as Bishop Dyer and Dijak winning the MLW tag titles, Shotzi and Ava Everett's appearance, Diego Hill being offered an MLW contract, and the surprise appearance of MJF attacking Mistico. Tom Lawlor joined Joe Dombrowski and Austin Aries on commentary with the trio doing well together. The live shows continue to be better to watch overall than the taped ones. Some good direction for the promotion in light of some of the recent talent departures. 6.5"
[6.0] "The show overall was a fun night of pro wrestling. Easy match of the night was KUSHIDA vs Hill, they stole the entire show match quality wise. The main event was a bit of a drag though, seemed like it was more pandering to the crowd then actual wrestling (and the constant Randy Orton references got a bit much). MFJ appearance was also a major shock, interested to see if more will come from a possible MLW/AEW working relationship. Only other gripe was how they structured the live show with a full taping for Blood and Thunder before the show as it kind of sucked some of the crowd's energy before the main card."
