[8.0] "I thought this was a pretty strong Dynamite show from AEW. Now, to start with some criticism, It's kind of bothered my that there was no follow up of Ricochet's attack on Strickland at the previous episode, not even a promo or a vignette. But the show itself was fun, with a quality opener between Matthews and Ospreay. And there wasn't even a bad match during the show, in my opinion. I was genuinely surprised where Hobbs won the gauntlet, I thought that Jarrett would've won, but this was the right move to do. Statlander gets a noticable win, which I'm glad, because she's a great wrestler. The return of Kenny Omega was fine, the staredown between him and Ospreay was a smart way to close an overall strong show."

[8.0] "A very good show, a close 9 imo. Ospreay/Buddy slapped big time and the rest of the matches that followed were good ones too, not special or extraordinary but I enjoyed them. Hobbs winning was a surprise moment but much needed as well considering he felt lost in the shuffle for a long time and its nice that after the good showing at Worlds End, they decided to give him another opportunity to shine. The segments were amazing, notable mentions include JJ/MJF, Omega returning after an year, May's promo was lovely as always, PP/Hurt Syndicate and Cope/Death Riders made good use of the tv time as well. Nothing much to complain here. Angles were advanced and the the in-ring content was wonderful and legit."

[6.0] "This show was average at best, Will vs Buddy saved it from being a "bad show", they put on a great match! Bobby Lashley is so dull, the Women's division is still pure trash."
Open The Vault wrote on 16.01.2025:
[7.0] "This was a good episode of Dynamite, way better than last week's show. We opened with Will Ospreay taking on Buddy Matthews in a breathtaking opening. I mean absolutely great and made Buddy Matthews look good in defeat, Ospreay showing praise to Matthews after the match was good. Lashley vs. Briscoe was as you expected, Lashley dominated the match with Briscoe having flurry at times but succumbing to the strength of Bobby Lashley. The match itself was basic and predictable on all fronts. The Men's Casino Gauntlet was good but ended abruptly in my opinion, Their was some good stuff but nothing majorly amazing about it. I was shocked with Hobbs winning and I'm interested to see where that goes. The MJF / Jarrett stuff was interesting, an unexpected turn of events but interesting. MJF's promo work has devolved in my opinion, It's just repetitive shtick that got OLD...QUICK. The segment itself was decent. Then Cope came out and cut a decent promo before everything kinda fell apart. The Deathriders came out and then FTR sneak attacked them and then oh great...another Deathriders brawl...and then it looks like Mox was gonna choke Cope before Hobbs made the save. It just felt so repetitive and at this point. The Deathriders are decent but need something to mix it up. They do more interesting stuff on Collision or hell even the last episode of RAMPAGE. The Three Way was also decent but nothing crazy with Statlander getting the shocking win. Then....THE CLEANER Kenny Omega made his Dynamite return to his WK Theme song and it was AWESOME, so much aura! He then cut an emotional promo, I mean heart-gripping and just before it got GREAT, I heard Don Callis' music and I rolled my eyes into the back of my head. Omega attacked Callis and then his goons helped. Ospreay came out and then Omega and Ospreay had a stare down. [***3/4]"

[8.0] "[8.0] A step up from last week's show, but still not there yet. The show started with a banger between Ospreay and Buddy Murphy, with Ospreay going over. My highlight was Ospreay calling Murphy 'Matthews.' I laughed out loud when this happened. I also enjoyed Ospreay mentioning Adam Brooks, who is probably my favorite Aussie wrestler. I hope to see him in AEW in the future. The second match was Bobby Lashley defeating Mark Briscoe in an ok match that went much longer than it should have. I do get it that Tony really likes Mark, but he has always seemed like the weaker side of the Briscoes to me; his brother was the true star. So, in my opinion, he shouldn't be booked as strongly as he is right now. After the end of the match, Hurt Syndicate attacked Mark and Private Party came for the rescue. The third match was the Casino Gauntlet match, with Hobbs coming out as winner. As much as I'm not a fan of gauntlet matches, this one was very entertaining with a very interesting finish with Hobbs going over. Even though Hobbs has zero chance of winning the title against Mox, I prefer it when AEW puts homegrown talent over. The gauntlet match was followed by a Jeff Jerret promo with MJF interrupting him. Not really interested in this storyline tbh. The following segment was Cope coming in to the ring to call out Mox and the Deathriders, which started a brawl in and outside of the ring and ended with Hobbs coming to save Cope. Again, not interested in anything Cope, Jericho, Deathriders or Double J are doing right now. I'm hoping either for this programs to end or start to get interesting cuz they're clearly the weakest part of every show, at least for me. The final match was the three way match for the #1 spot in next week casino gauntlet for the women's world tile. It was a decent match, nothing spectacular, with Statlander winning. I've never understood the concept of going first in the gauntlet. Why is it an advantage? If the match can end in a single pinfall at any moment, why going in first is an advantage? Anyways, I'm really tired of these gauntlet matches, and I'm not seeing them going away anytime soon. The main event of the show was the official Kenny Omega return to AEW. And man, it's so good seeing him back. IMO AEW is desperately needing him, he is the best wrestler in AEW history and proved against Gabe Kidd that he still is at least a top 5 wrestler in the world. His beating of Callis was so funny, especially after he said he wasn't worried about revenge. The show ended with Ospreay coming in to rescue Kenny, establishing a possible alliance there. Really excited to see what will happen between those two. Overall a very enjoyable show to watch. Still not on par with what AEW can produce, but a very nice weekly show."

Casino Gauntlet had its moments but I don't like the match type. Wasn't feeling Ospreay/Buddy. Some solid promos, I enjoyed MJF."

Ozwern wrote on 12.01.2025:
[8.0] "Definitely an improvement over the underwhelming first week for AEW in the new year. Matches were solid and some good short promos. Double j and MJF angle ... not thrilled about it but I'll give it a chance. Death Riders storyline seems to have no juice left in it. Women's match was really good but it was short. They really need to give them more time, how do you have your top 3 women out there and best you can do is 10 minutes is beyond me."
RestlingThots wrote on 12.01.2025:
[8.0] "1) I turned on Dynamite right after I finished watching Wrestle Dynasty, and noticed a glaring difference between Japanese and American style of pro-wrestling, or at least between NJPW and AEW style of pro-wrestling. In Japan they know how to give their matches breathe, especially after spectacular spots or hard-hitting moves. In the opening match of this episode of Dynamite between Buddy Mathews and Will Ospreay all I saw was a move after move after move. Don't get me wrong, the moves were spectacular, but if you don't let the viewers register those moments and digest them, you could as well not do them at all. The only thing I remember from that match is the finish. That kind of match, with that number of spots, would last for at least twice as long in NJPW as it did here. It's the same in hip-hop - just because you can rap fast doesn't mean you have to. I don't enjoy rap songs with fast rapping as well as I don't enjoy wrestling matches with a fast pace. You want to have sudden accelerations, sure, but if your entire match is a non-stop action, it stops having meaning. 2) I rarely say anything negative about MJF (actually, I've never said anything bad about him), but his segment with Jeff Jarret was mid and didn't make much sense. How exactly MJF would help Double J to win the world title? Why he can't do it himself? 3) We all agree that the winner of the Women's Casino Gauntlet Match next week will be Toni Storm, right?"

"Good episode in a while. Promos were bad except Mariah and Harley segment. I don't want to see Edge so called Cope now in title picture. He is so lame can't get behind him. I would love to see Mox vs White one on one, but that also seems me getting away from picture. Christian contract of title also a dead end now. I don't know how they gonna execute it. Crowd was so dead. They don't even try to react. Flat reaction but good show."

[9.0] "I loved this episode of Dynamite, fantastic return to form after last week's down episodes. Ospreay Vs Buddy was outstanding, as excepted. Lashley Vs Briscoe was not a match I ever thought about but this was great, think this will become an underrated gem. As always, the casino gauntlet match was a lot of fun, and an unexpected but really good choice of winner - Hobbs impressed at Worlds End and now gets another opportunity to show just how good he is. Main event also a fun match, Toni's 'rookie' character is so enjoyable to watch and Kris and Willow deliver as usual. On top of the great wrestling, this week's promos also are really strong - MJF / JJ was much better than I expected, Cope is fantastic and the return of Kenny felt massive. Lots of future matches teased and a fantastic 2-hour show (9/10)"

I wouldn't mind Ospreay reforming UE and Buddy Matthews defecting over to that stable. Bobby Lashley knocks Mr. Redneck Kung Fu, after the Hurt Syndicate informs Private Party they are coming for the tag titles. Love the Casino Gauntlet Match, and it provided a surprise finish, which I liked. Kris Stat wins a three-way over Willow and Toni Storm. The episode also included a little MJF and Death Riders drama."

[7.0] "It was another solid episode of Dynamite. I was close to giving it an 8, but I still feel AEW is just missing something at the moment. The Deathriders storyline continues to be a complete drag. I don't mind Copeland being in the world title scene and I certainly don't mind him feuding with Moxley, but it just doesn't feel like it's the right moment. Perhaps it's because I want the company to pivot FAST away from this Deathriders stuff and get the title off of Moxley. Otherwise though, it was consistently a decent episode, with glimmers of greatness. The opening match between Ospreay and Buddy was excellent. Honestly, if AEW got back to just putting on awesome match after awesome match, but the storylines are lacking, I could live with it. The promo that followed it was a bit weird and borderline patronising though, but I feel I am nitpicking there. The Hurt Syndicate continue to be great. The Casino Gauntlet was fun as always, although the lack of real surprises was a little disappointing. Powerhouse Hobbs continuing to be pushed is great, but I can't help feeling it's a little soon for him and it is far too obvious that he isn't winning. AEW needs less predictable title matches, because it's become incredibly obvious in the past year or two how they are telegraphing stories. The women's match was good, with a surprising win for Kris Statlander. AEW needs to continue some of the momentum she has built from her feud with Mercedes, so a good choice. The highlight of the episode, besides the opening match, was obviously the return of Kenny Omega. Did we need the Don Callis family shtick and obvious support from rival, Ospreay, though? A minor complaint though. Overall, a good show. I just wish we could move past this Deathriders nonsense."

Casino Gauntlet was fun as usual & the three way women's match was good as well. The pacing was great between the matches & the promos that were being cut from the likes of MJF, Jeff Jarrett, & Kenny Omega (which was great to see him back in an AEW ring)."

[8.0] "A very fun all - around episode of AEW Dynamite. Every match on the card rocked in my opinion. Will Ospreay opened the show with a fun match with Buddy Matthews. We saw Bobby Lashley continue to rise his stock in AEW as he beat Mark Briscoe in a very solid match. Powerhouse Hobbs is next in line for the AEW World Championship as he faces Jon Moxley next week on a Special Episode of AEW Dynamite. Kris Statlander wins an important Casino Gauntlet #1 Spot Three Way Match. Kenny Omega returns and reignite his feud with Don Callis but it's great to see The Cleaner back in AEW I missed him dearly."

[9.0] "Probably the show they should have had last week for any new Max viewers. Four very good matches, good promos, hot talent featured, surprising winners in a good way. Only having four matches made sure the pacing was very good and everything had time to breathe. The only things I would change were Mariah's promo being just her and not a Harley interruption and I wouldn't have the Don Callis Family beatdown on Kenny Omega. Mariah could just do a promo like last week's and just announce the Harley match on social media and Kenny could have done a welcome back promo and Ospreay (if that's the direction they're headed) could have walked out for a face to face and you announced the Brian Cage match next. Those habits feel like Tony listening to the "all bangers no stories" crowd and thinking every match needs a reason to happen. I don't need a reason for a match, I don't need video packages for everything. If I wanted to have everything spelled out for me I would watch WWE. Be the alternative you need to be. Overall, very good show. I would give it 8.5/10, round it out for a 9."

[5.0] "This stuff is still so boring. There's okay wrestling in the opener. Kenny's return is a big deal but we just saw him make a bigger and more impressive statement against Gabe Kidd. Nothing against Brian Cage but they're playing this like Kenny needs another warm-up and that we're still supposed to be unsure of what kind of condition he's in. Most viewers will not have seen his return match but he's coming in with his momentum reset to almost zero (the crowd didn't help on this episode). The Casino Gauntlet was the worst one yet. Not awful, just mediocre. I thought O'Reilly was with the Undisputed Kingdom now but I guess not. There's a little more going on, Private Party are doing something, there's set-up for the women's gauntlet, but so much feels lifeless right now. Hopefully things are just getting started."

[8.0] "It's a progressive rebound for Dynamite after a mediocre start to the year. The matches were extremely entertaining, to say the least. The promo stand-offs were a mixed bag with MJF/JJ being the one to look forward the most. The pace was very energetic considering how long it could've been on paper, thanks to the blazing opener between Ospreay/Matthews and the well-balanced Casino Gauntlet. Ospreay & Omega possibly joining forces would help to form a magnum-opus story since the World Title picture is getting cold feet."

The entire main event was fun, I was just very pissed with the crowd, what a lame crowd, dear lord, they were terrible and almost ruined the segment."

Put the belt on the actual current main eventers - Ospreay, Kenny, Page, Swerve and let them have genuine, personal battles for the belt. 2025 continues to present the ladies as second class citizens, not an auspicious beginning to the year. The episode was very entertaining for me overall otherwise, I enjoyed all the matches, Harley is a gem, and the episode went by very quickly. Get the belt off Moxley."

Opener was an enjoyable match although it felt shoehorned in with its importance with Buddy not being a focus since the PPV before the previous one. Lashley/Briscoe was solid but felt like a fraction of what they are capable of. Casino Gauntlet was fine but not the most exciting. Solid main event. Some middling promos inbetween with Jarrett/MJF and Cope/Death Riders. Omega's return to TV to close the show was nice to see but there was very little direction to it other than being thrust into another Don Callis feud (potentially with Ospreay at his side) with a Don Callis group that isn't the most interesting. 5.5-6"

[5.0] "I think a lot of AEW fans are letting Omega's return and a hot opener color their attitudes toward this Dynamite. It continued to be an incredibly disappointing representation of what AEW's potential is. The addition of Adam Cole and the Undisputed Elite derailed what was otherwise building to be a genuinely exciting Casino Gauntlet match. Jeff Jarrett getting 10-minute-plus segments on Dynamite in 2025 is deserving of the worst angle of the year, and MJF spinning out of his worst feud in AEW into a new awful feud is such a condemnation of his value anymore. Capping off 10 minutes of MJF/Jarrett with another 10 minutes of Copeland and the Death Riders is setting a low bar for AEW television for the year. The Death Riders continue to be abysmal and pointless. I don't care if they run out to beat up Copeland. I don't care if they do it to Kenny Omega next week. They contribute nothing interesting to AEW, have mediocre to bad matches with no story and emotion, and the sooner the belt is off Moxley the better. Another big criticism is of Toni Storm, who continues to contribute as little as she can to the matches she's in. Kris Statlander and Willow Nightingale have shown that they can deliver excellent wrestling in the past. But this match was a waste of everyone's time. Don't have a match on TV if you're not trying to make it excellent. Don't have Toni Storm wrestling on Dynamite if she isn't willing to put effort into it. Lastly, It's fucking incredible to have Kenny Omega back in AEW, but I'm not going to pretend the message delivered in his promo didn't cut a lot of my enthusiasm. It was great for Kenny to talk about his journey, but he made no indication of any goal or direction for his character other than "I am here." No, "I want the championship belt." No, "I'm going to beat the best wrestlers in AEW and never lose again." All we were given was Kenny being thrust back into a feud with Don Callis that hasn't gone anywhere for years, with a faction that is less than it was when Kenny feuded with it before. That's not showing me AEW is as excited about Kenny as I am. It's anything but."

[7.0] "A huge step ahead compared to last week's show. Ospreay vs. Matthews was the best match of the night. Really fun opening match. Hurt Syndicate going after the tag titles is the right direction to make the division important again. Bobby vs. Briscoe was solid. Bobby looked amazing here. The casino gauntlet was the worst one out of all the casino gauntlets they did. Nowhere near a bad match, though. Ricochet trolling everyone with "Swerve's House" was great and Hobbs winning was unexpected. The promo between MJF and JJ was good. However I didn't get why would MJF ask Jarrett to help him regain the World title instead of asking. Hobbs. I mean Hobbs had just won the match and is bigger, young and stronger than JJ. Doesn't make too much sense to me. Cope/Mox angle was okay. Not even two weeks into this program and it's already cold. At least Hobbs look good. The women's three way was solid. Toni's gimmick is just perfect. The returning Kenny Omega ended the show with a promo. It was a heartfelt and really emotional one. Omega got attacked by the Don Callis Family but Ospreay saved him. The face-off between Omega and Ospreay sent shivers down my spine and just imagine what would be Ospreay/Omega vs. Fletcher/Takeshita. Overall: the opener and the closing segment carried the show. Stuff in between didn't work too much for me. World title angle is dead cold and a program between MJF and JJ doesn't thrill me at all. At least all the matches were somewhat good."

Its great he came back but we've done this "ive over come odds" bit with him since he returned from injury before and get some guys over or go away. Wrestling wise this was a great night. [9.0] "A good episode of Dynamite, with every match delivering what it needed to, some good segments which I thoroughly enjoyed. Private Party segment was interesting with The Hurt Syndicate coming out and coming face to face with the AEW World Tag Team champions with a potential title match down the road. Jeff Jarrett's segment got interesting when MJF interrupted and they had verbal exchanges that was an enjoyable watch and can't wait for the road Jarrett will go down in 2025. Cope's segment was to further his potential rivalry with Jon Moxley, which got FTR and Powerhouse Hobbs involved which was interesting. The return of Kenny Omega was a bit emotional to start with as he spoke about his time away from the ring the last year, only to get attacked by The Don Callis Family only for Will Ospreay to come out for the save which was good to see. Will Ospreay vs Buddy Matthews: An interesting clash of styles to open this week's episode of Dynamite, they have great chemistry and for a first time ever singles match they had a great match, Matthews nearly beat Ospreay a couple of occasions, but Ospreay showed why he is the GOAT and got the win here [****]. Bobby Lashley vs Mark Briscoe: Lashley continues to show how dominant he is, Briscoe did get some offense in but Lashley got the win via the Hurt Lock in what was a solid bout especially for TV on Dynamite [***1/2]. AEW World Title #1 Contenders Casino Gauntlet: An interesting set of wrestlers participated in this one, some memorable moments and Powerhouse Hobbs winning was a complete surprise, this was solid and enjoyable to watch [****1/4]. Kris Statlander vs Toni Storm vs Willow Nightingale: Willow hitting Toni and Kris with a double german suplex was actually decent, all three gave a good showing and Kris getting the win was okay but would like to have seen Willow win, Toni was okay in this one [***1/2]."
