Das Backstage Segment, bei Bagwell und Arn Anderson bereits am Boden liege, bevor auch Scotty Riggs ausgeschaltet wird und Rey Misterio gegen den Truck geworfen wird, war schon klasse gemacht. Eine präzise schnelle Attacke, die man gut hat wirken lassen, zudem hat man erstmal einen vierten Mann erwähnt. Ein wirklich sehr gut produziertes Segment, welches fast 20 Minuten Zeit bekommen hat und Auswirkungen auf den gesamten Rest der Ausgabe hatte, da man offiziell auf Standby Matches zurückgreifen musste, wozu auch die Paarungen gut passten. Duggon vs. Enos ging mir ein bisschen zu lang, dafpr war aber Luger, Sting & Savage vs.Four Horsemen ganz nett. Bubba vs. Eddie auch ein bisschen zu lang und der Main Event halt da aber für die Promo danach wichtig. Vor dem Main Event gibt es noch eine Vignette der nWo, die ziemlich gut und damals bestimmt gut angekommen ist. |

There's a really good 6-man tag match early in the show which was last weeks scheduled main event with Ric Flair finally in the Horseman team against Lex, Sting and Macho and it had a chaotic ending where Jimmy Hart is in a big panic trying to get everyone's attention to get the match stopped and when he does it cuts to a brutal nWo beat down where Rey Mysterio gets launched like a dart into a trailer and they've beaten a bunch of people up with baseball bats and it looked like a crime scene! They really played it off in a realistic way too where they stay with it for a good chunk while they all get loaded up in an ambulance so it really sells it in a big way. The rest of the card is postponed because of the injuries and WCW desperately scramble 'standby' matches to finish the show and Bobby Heenan felt completely in character where he decided not to do the rest of the show because he doesn't feel safe doing it. The 'paid for by the nWo' video was the icing on the cake where their goal is to completely destroy WCW in order to take it over and the way the show went to a halt because of their actions made them the most threatening heel group ever seen in wrestling! Honestly my only flaw with the show was the opening match, but you'll forget about that very quickly! |

Nash and Hall's secret recording of their attack on Sting was good, with realistic recording style/quality. Enos vs Duggan was a a messy and mindless brawl. Duggan's babyface-selling was awfully goofy, and him using tape to somehow knock Enos out was totally nonsensical. 1/2*. Duggan's post-match promo on Hogan's heel turn was surprisingly fine, though I still don't want to see him face Hogan. The 6-man Tag was part messy arena brawl and part just all 6 guys getting turns to heartlessly do their signature spots Benoit was obviously the hardest and more exciting worker, while Sting, Savage, Luger, and Flair did all their low-effort signature spots, none of which were too exciting but still fine. The match ended in double count-out after Jimmy Hart's frantic interruption. **1/4. Hart led the cameramen backstage to Nash and Hall's vicious attack on various lower-level WCW wrestlers. This segment was quite long but VERY good, especially with how all non-NWO on-screen talent came together in panic and grief, all temporarily united despite their different allegiances, while the commentators were almost entirely silent with shock while trying to make sense of everything and piece together the rest of the show, all of which put this attack over like a major deal. The most interesting part here was various victims stating that there were 4 attackers, even though we only saw 2, which built hype and mystery surrounding 2 potentially new NWO members. That segment was FAR better than the match it interrupted. Definitely the best NWO-related segment/angle thus far. Steiners vs High Voltage was pretty short and a bit messy, but The Steiners still had some fun beefy strikes and power moves, and Scott's match-winning Steiner Screwdriver was disgustingly beautiful. Having Rick still very distracted and rattled due to the NWO's attack was a smart extra touch. NR. Eddie vs Bubba was the "standby match" after Mysterio, Eddie's original opponent, was taken out by the NWO. What a downgrade, huh? Eddie tried hard with his strong selling and impressive agile displays, but Bubba's beatdown work and big-man spots were very bland, and his control segment lasted too long. Eddie's comeback was fun but very short. **1/4. The NWO promotional video was very cool, with stylish directing/editing and captivating mic work from all 3. Giant vs Valentine was a pointless squash. Giant goofily sold Valentine's many mediocre strikes before destroying him with some surprisingly decent displays of fire. NR. Giant's post-match promo continued to turn him babyface by him calling out Hogan for his immoral actions, and he again surprised me by having relatively compelling delivery instead of acting like a cartoon villain. I'm actually relatively interested in seeing them face off now. |

It was a great concept, pulled off perfectly ? the fact that you don't get to see most of the attack really adds to the realism, and what you get to see (particularly the famous Rey Mysterio lawndart incident) is masterfully done. What makes it stand out so much is that it was done unlike any other wrestling show, for example, it happening in the middle of a match, the camera staying so long backstage, the extended aftermath, Bobby Heenan walking off the show out of fear for his safety, all made it so unique and realistic. This show is basically what Vince Russo WISHED he could do in terms of swerving the fans, making things feel real even to smart fans, and breaking the traditional format of a wrestling show, but which he was incapable of pulling off. |

Zbyszko mit seinem "New World Odor" nicht besonders einfallsreich oder ich verstehe es aufgrund der Sprachbarriere nicht, klingt für mich etwas arg billig. Die WCW steht angeblich wie ein Mann gegen die nWo aber "interne Konflikte", wie u. a. im zweiten Match, gab es immer noch, nichts dagegen, aber kluges, durchdachtes und vor allem nachvollziehbares und stringentes Booking war das in meinen Augen nicht, auch wenn die gesamte WCW natürlich nicht auf die damals noch relativ kleine nWo gehen konnte. Aber warum dann dieses Booking, warum nicht einfach die anderen Konflikte weiterlaufen lassen, ohne so zu tun als wäre die gesamte WCW gegen die nWo? Nach dem Match sorgten sich dann auch u. a. Luger und Sting um Arn Anderson. Naja, mal gucken ob daran angesetzt wurde. Auch gut: Während Flair im Ring Probleme hatte, tratschten Elizabeth und Debra draußen wie junge Mädchen und merkten dann, dass sie sich vielleicht mal wieder dem Geschehen im Ring widmen sollten. Auch hier: Was für ein Kontrast im Vergleich zur WWF. Das waren schon alles Vollprofis bei der WCW damals. Da man das Verletzung-Angle ewig in die Länge zog, waren die "Boring! "-Rufe der Fans wenig verwunderlich. Mitten im Match der Gebrüder Steiner geht das, scheinbar etwas verspätete, Feuerwerk zur zweiten Stunde der Show im Hintergrund los, sagte ich bereits Vollprofis? Guerero gegen Big Bubba war ein Clash of Styles aber kein schlechtes Match und endlich wieder Wrestling. The Giant dann noch mit kurzer Vorstellung gegen Valentine. Show ging eigentlich recht gut los, aber nach dem nWo-Angriff ging es mit angezogener Handbremse sehr langsam und sehr wenig Wrestling in der restlichen Sendezeit weiter. |

I love the little touches, like Heenan refusing to join the broadcast team because he doesn't feel safe, and the whole card being reshuffled on the fly because so many people were injured in the nWo attack. Amazing show, I loved this. |

Folgendes Hacksaw-Statement muss man sich mal auf der Zunge zergehen lassen " [... ] Hulkster, you're a great technical wrestler ... [... ] " Jetzt weiss man auch endlich, warum der Typ noch einen Job hat. Während die etablierte Konstellation Luger, Sting & Savage es mit dem Upgrade der Horsemen (Flair statt Anderson) aufnehmen, zerlegen die Outsiders backstage die Undercard - unter anderem wirft man Mysterio wie einen Dartpfeil. Es dauert dann auch ein paar Minuten, bis die Scherben zusammengefegt sind. Dieser Angle ist fast schon ein Tabubruch und ein grandioser Augenblick in der Invasions-Story der nWo - einfach historisch. Statt mit Mysterio, der mit dem Krankenwagen abtransportiert wird, bekommt es Eddie somit mit dem Big Bossman zu tun, nimmt den Sieg mit und verursacht Mißstimmungen zwischen Jimmy Hart und Ray Traylor. Es folgt die erste selbstbezahlte nWo-Vignette bei Nitro - und die offenbart, dass die drei Krawallbrüder bei HOG Wild in festen Matches stecken. Als Ausrufezeichen exekutiert der Giant noch mal eben fix Greg Valentine und gibt zu verstehen, dass er sich Hogan nicht so leicht geschlagen geben wird. Der Hulkster hat was vor und das Build-Up ist annähernd spektakulär - dafür ist heute im Ring so ziemlich alles bescheiden. |

Der Angle war wirklich gut gemacht und ich finds nicht schade, dass man dafür viel Zeit geopfert hat. Es kam wie eine wirklich große Sache rüber und das Segment sollte sich wie ein Roter Faden durch die Show ziehen. Großartig gemacht von allen Beteiligten. Das Promo Video der NWO fand ich dann auch richtig stark gemacht. Ansonsten gab es noch eine schöne Kampfansage vom Giant an Hogan und ein ordentliches Match zwischen Eddie und Bubba. |
