[8.0] "This was a great show, and a nice way to (re)launch this promotion. The production values were pretty good - it's reminiscent of the better looking TNA shows that Scott ran. We do get an unfortunate "MPL" moment, though. We start off with a great match, then it tails off a bit (including a match that would've been rated far better if Bully didn't do a long promo beforehand), followed by two stellar matches to finish it off."
[7.0] "A solid card carried by the last two matches. Speedball Takeshita was fantastic and I think I liked Shaw Yamashita more than most. Avoid the tables match lat all costs. A good start for this reboot of MLPW!"
[8.0] "Forged In Excellence was a great first show for a returning promotion. I trully enjoyed most of the matches and the atmosphere of the crowd. Also, hearing Mauro Ranallo again was great. He is great at commentary. There are some mistakes on camera takes and on production, but it's normal considering it's their first show. It's something that hopefully will improve soon. The show started with a declaration of intentions, putting over Canadian wrestling with El Phantasmo, Josh Alexander & Stu Grayson defeating the foreign heels Alex Zayne, Rocky Romero & Trevor Lee. I really enjoyed this match as they told the classic story with some great action. Also it was a way to out over Josh Alexander, considering that on next show he faces Takeshita for the title. That match is followed by a decent encounter between QT Marshall and Bhupinder Gujjar. The match was fine, I liked QT's offense, but the weak interference ending hurts the rating of the match. The womes four way match was fun, specially as a showcase for some talent I didn't know. Taylor Rising really impressed me. There are setting a future rivalry between Kylie Rae and Laynie Luck, after Rae stole the pinfall. The IWGP tag team match was very good. A great defense by the Jet Setters and a great performance from Kevin Knight, the Rogue Squadron & Johnny Swinger. It was a fun spotfest, fast paced and with lot of action. Next was Rohan Raja winning the Champion's grail against Jake Something. I liked the structure of Jake Something's strenght vs Rohan Raja's methodical approach working over Something's arm. Good performance and a shocking winner. I see a bright future in Rohan Raja. Then the worst match of the night: a tables match between Bully Ray and Raj Dhesi (Jinder Mahal). The only spot I enjoyed was the referee hitting the wazzup. But then a tables match ended with an interference by QT Marshall. It was bad. Later Gisele Shaw defeated Miyu Yamashita. Both woman look good here with some stiff offense and nice moves. But the best match was the main event. It was an incredible match between Konosuke Takeshita and Mike Bailey. Fast paced action, great sequences, big moves, intensity and fun spots. It was a perfect main event for the new promotion."
[4.0] "The first show in a new promotion's history should be their moment to stamp their identity all over the show and put their best foot forward. This show was tantamount to an own goal. You had a downright atrocious and worthless Bully Ray/Raj Dhesi match and two other poor matches in Marshall/Gujjar and the Women's four way. The final two matches were good, the main event very much so, but the damage was done."
[6.0] "A very average show that was basically defined by the Main-Event. From one hand - it was a great showcase of talent that are not yet on notice in the wrestling world, but on the other - a big part of the show was just average at best with a big slope down with Bully/Raj match. The main-event, of course, was stellar and have really defined the show. I have also quite enjoyed Something/Rohan and Shaw/Miju."
[7.0] "This was one of those shows where there was both a Match of the Year candidate and a Worst Match of the Year candidate on it. Technically you could call this a one match show with the main event, but the opener was a lot of fun too and Shaw vs. Yamashita was fun to see even if I don't think it was quite the same quality of match. The Bully Ray vs. Jinder Mahal/Raj Dhesi match was dreadful, but it doesn't bring down the overall card quality too much thanks to the facts that it was both slightly better than my expectations and not something I was looking forward to in order to be disappointed by in the first place. Overall, I enjoyed my time with the show and got a treat of a main event from sticking around. [MOTN:Konosuke Takeshita vs. Mike Bailey]"
[5.0] "Average show it wasn't really that special since it was there debut show. Most of the matches were very underwhelming. The only positives would be the opener 6 man tag match, and the main event match between Konosuke Takeshita vs Mike Bailey, and Mauro Ranallo on commentary was great to here him call wrestling again."
[7.0] "A decent first show for the revival of Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling, there were a few standout matches (Jr Heavyweight Tag Title Four Way, Gisele Shaw/Miyu Yamashita, Konosuke Takeshita/Mike Bailey), there were a couple of average-okay matches and a not good match, production did feel very TNA esque. El Phantasmo, Josh Alexander & Stu Grayson vs Alex Zayne, Rocky Romero & Trevor Lee: An enjoyable trios match that showcased some decent spots, all six had the chance to showcase what they can do and was able to shine, some decent spots, Alexander winning for his team was good to see ahead of his match against Konosuke Takeshita on Night 2 [***1/4]. QT Marshall vs Bhupinder Gujjar: An okay match that was of some interest, the action was average and the ending was sloppy especially with Harley Cameron getting involved [*3/4]. Kylie Rae vs Aurora Teves vs Laynie Luck vs Taylor Rising: An okay women's division four way match that did not get the time they needed to really shine, what they were able to do in the short time they had was okay [**]. Kevin Knight & KUSHIDA vs Aiden Prince & El Reverso vs Rohit Raju & Sheldon Jean vs Brent Banks & Johnny Swinger: A four way tag team match that was enjoyable, a decent first title defense for Knight and KUSHIDA, there were some cool spots in this one, with all four teams getting their moment, some good tag team wrestling as well [****]. Rohan Raja vs Jake Something: They kept it simple and it showed, Something selling his injured arm was worked well and Raja was okay in this one, the one armed powerbomb looked cool from Something to Raja [**1/4]. Bully Ray vs Raj Dhesi: Terrible match, booked wrong and the ending was not good either, should not have happened [DUD]. Gisele Shaw vs Miyu Yamashita: This match with the ROH Women's World title implications at stake with Yamashita trying to get a spot in the match as a three way if she won, Yamashita fought Shaw with her usual style and it could have worked well for her, Shaw showed that she can outsmart Yamashita and get the win and keep it a singles match against Athena in a well worked, hard hitting exchanges match [***1/2]. Konosuke Takeshita vs Mike Bailey: One of the best in TNA fought one of the best in AEW in an absolute banger, MOTYC match for the revived MLP, some insane near falls and hard hitting action, the crowd was on fire throughout, took each other to the limit and beyond, Bailey paying homage to Petey Williams with the canadian destroyer was cool to watch, a must watch match [*****]"
[6.0] "The show wasn't exactly, bad the Jr Heavyweight 4 way, was a little too amateur, compared to the rest of the show. Bully Ray vs. Jinder Mahal was, just a weird match, but I didn't expect it to be amazing. Mike Bailey vs. Takeshita delivered though. The other matches on the card we're just fine, nothing insane."
[8.0] "The whole "TN-Eh? " joke is so popular that even Scott D'Amore is trademarking it to put on t-shirts, but at the same time, it is incredibly apposite. Really, this was what we all expected the TNA revival was going to be like when SDA cut that famous promo at Bound for Glory almost exactly a year prior. Two of the best matches of the year over the weekend from incredible talent, but at the same time, it's infected with the same silliness that has plagued TNA since the days of the Weekly PPVs. Not every day you get a WMOTYC and a MOTYC almost back-to-back, after all. But one can never say no to another Double-A promotion (alongside GCW, MLW, and TNA) to keep the wide gamut of indie talent sharp and on the radar of the bigger promotions, especially one as well produced as Maple Leaf."
[8.0] "Hilarious that this shows has one of the worst matches of the year and one of the best matches of the year on the same show, I think this was a pretty fun "debut" for MLP"
[8.0] "I may be a bit biased since I was there seccond row for the weekend but this show was really solid! I've been following Scott D'Amore's different wrestling endeavors since 2012 and it feels like MLP Wrestling is the perfect blend of what I've seen him do for the last 12 years from BCW to the brief time he spent on his hard work bringing TNA back and working their first weekend as president. With the only lowlight being that god awful tables match that I was not excited for in the slightest when it was announced featuring the only 2 talents I didn't care for signed on for the weekend, I think the time could have been spent elsewhere like the women's matches. But other than that the matches ranged from pretty good to absolutely insane. It was super great to see local guys like Brent Banks, El Reverso and Aiden Prince be able to share the ring with champion level talent like Kushida and being able to get the chance to be seen by more people rather than being taped for an episode of Explosion or whatever. Obviously the main event delivered and than some, Takeshita has been given some decent spotlight on a big stage but Mike Bailey has everything it takes to be an absolute workhorse star. TNA really needs to open their eyes and see the kind of talent they have in that X Division. Night 2 was a far superior show though."
[6.0] "Production of this show felt like TNA with different commentary, ring canvas and turnbuckles so it felt like good ol' familiar very quickly, but wrestlers were actually motivated to put on a show that would make fans come back. Well, aside from one particular match that obviously stood out from the pack as an abomination, but everything else was good enough. Raja vs. Something vastly overachieved in my opinion, Raja did a great job controlling the pace and Something's selling was excellent. Main Event was easily the best match here, so if you're cherry picking - that's the match to watch."
[8.0] "I'm probably overrating it a little, but I enjoyed this show and really enjoyed the main event. The only real stinker was the Bully Ray match and everything Bully Ray honestly, but everything else was at least decent. I feel like I enjoyed this more for the promise of what it can be: perhaps a RevPro-level promotion for Canada. Hopeful for its future."
[8.0] "A great first show for the revived Maple Leaf Wrestling. The main event alone was worth the price of the show. Some great work from wrestlers who I'd either never seem before or had a negative impression of before the show. A show like this is evidence of how stupid it was for TNA to fire Scott D'More, the man understands how to put together a wrestling show."
[8.0] "Really really good show! Mauro returning to commentary was fantastic. Not a single bad match and an excellent first showing. The main event was absolutely insane with Speedball & Takeshita. Night 2 is set up to be an absolute banger show! Opening match set the tone. Fantastic wrestling, crowd and production"
[7.0] "It was pretty good, but it definitely had production hiccups. I liked the promos being used to set up the matches immediately thereafter. Mix of indie wrestlers and those seemingly on loan from other promotions because they were introduced in the chyron as being from TNA, NJPW, ROH, or AEW. As a first showing, it was good and instills confidence, but I think they will cannibalize their partners a bit. Good variety on the show, too, although the comedy in Dhesi vs. Bully raises some questions about the tone. I also wish they had explained the PWA Champion Grail a bit more."
[7.0] "Not a bad first showing. They had production problems the entire time but new promotion, first show, it happens. Mauro Ranallo on commentary again is incredible. Most of the matches were decent to good, with Takeshita vs Speedball being a marvelous match as expected. However, Bully Ray vs Raj Dhesi might be the worst match of the year, absolute overbooked garbage that was. Quite hilarious to have a match like that in the midst of legends like Speedball and Takeshita. I mostly enjoyed the show though."
