[8.0] "ROH Death Before Dishonor 2024 was a solid night of wrestling and the only reason it wasn't better was because it didn't have a spectacular match, but the entire card was solid with no bad matches and at least four great matches, although the show only had a 20-minute match or more, the show still seemed big to me, especially when combined with Zero Hour which lasts almost 5 hours. Mortos vs. Komander (****), UK vs. Conglomeration (****), Hirsch vs. Diamante (****), Yuta vs. Moriarty (***1/2), Starkz vs. Velvet (***), Dustin/Von Erichs vs. Dark Order (***), 6 Way (***1/4), Athena vs. Aminata (***1/2), Mark vs. Strong (****1/4). Final grade 7.5"
[7.0] "This was a good show overall with a strong beginning and end, but a string of mediocrity in the middle. The main event was also too overbooked for my liking, but still very good overall. Beast Mortos vs. Komander & Leyla Hirsch vs. Diamante were the two matches I was most impressed by and it was hard picking a favourite between the two. [MOTN: Diamante vs. Leyla Hirsch]"
[7.0] "The first 3 matches, and the last 2 were the highlights of the show. The 4 matches between them were less impressive, but not bad matches at all. Good PPV in the end."
[7.0] "The first 3-4 matches were great but the show peaked there. The rest of the matches were either slightly below that level or simply not close to it"
[9.0] "What a PPV. Even the bad matches were great. The great matches were exceptional. I think it may be the best value for money PPV Ive bought this year. The double main events were both works of art, and Mark Briscoe is my favourite wrestler in the world right now. The commentary team once again deserves extra praise, they didnt skip a beat or drop a bum note all night. What a show!"
[8.0] "A great show for ROH. Honestly probably the best they've put on since being bought out by TK. Super consistent wrestling throughout the night with not really a single bad match on the card. It does reach a lull at around the midpoint with the 3 weakest matches on the card, but does pick up again with the Women's title match and the main event. Just a very good night of wrestling, this is exactly what every ROH PPV should be considering the level of talent they have access to. MOTN - Diamante v Leyla Hirsch"
[7.0] "Not sure why this was as long as AEW PPV We definitely didn't need that 6 man tag match on here and with 2 teams nobody cares about none the less. Other than that match everything was alright though that Billie Starks match wasn't PPV level or the ROH World Television title match, everything else were solid PPV matches. With Athena continuing to be the standout of these ROH PPV an of course Mark and Rodrick put on a great match"
"The event that warranted the creation of my account, as I wanted somewhere to share my thoughts and document events Ive been catching up on. Underrated gem of a card that started fun and ended moreso. Not EVERY match is Match of the Year quality, but there were fun and memorable spots even in the less technically impressive bouts. LOVED Hirsch/Diamante, Red Velvet and Lee Moriarty getting their moments, and the final two matches. I wasnt too crazy about the 6-Man tag if I were to nitpick Final thoughts: Athena is still one of the best as we all already knew, and Roderick Strong has a good case for WOTY 24!"
[8.0] "This continues the trend of TK-era ROH PPVs overperforming. Very solid throughout, with the double title-match main event of Briscoe vs Strong and Athena vs Aminata being the best of the night, but the best being very solid throughout. Briscoe and Strong felt like a classic-era ROH grudge match with the history between the two represented throughout, while Athena proved in her match to be one of the true anchors of the current ROH brand (making even more of a shame that she can't get more eyes on it for the weekly programming without a TV deal), and Aminata looked fantastic as a relatively-new face to the ROH women's division. Elsewhere I especially enjoyed the opening lucha match between Komander and one of my personal recent favorites, the former Black Taurus; Billie Starkz vs Red Velvet and Yuta vs Moriarty were good stuff; the Survival of the Fittest match was a pretty fun multi-man, and the rest was perfectly fine. The biggest issue I had was that they went to the outside-interference well a bit too often for my liking; I'm not adverse to interference here and there when it's well-executed, but it's less effective when so many matches on the same card use it; I would also say that the Hirsch vs Diamante match, while by no means bad, was a little too much of just trading weapon spots for my liking, and the Six-Man Tag eliminator, while again not at all bad, felt like it could've been a TV match rather than on PPV, especially since the vacant title wasn't being decided. But, those are mostly minor nitpicks - still a very good show overall."
[8.0] "Super solid show with some fantastic matches on the card .. no matter whos on or off the card, when TK puts a PPV together its always great show."
[8.0] "The Beast Mortos vs Komander: A great lucha match to open the PPV, a spot fest that was fun to watch, Komander did manage to get a couple of outstmarted moves on Mortos, but Mortos gets the win and shows that he is a dominant wrestler especially in ROH [****]. Matt Taven & Mike Bennett vs Kyle O'Reilly & Tomohiro Ishii: Started with Bennett and Ishii with hard hitting action including a chop fest, then KOR and Taven came in and showcased their technical sides, some moments of great tag team wrestling, the ending did spoil it a bit with the distraction from Don Callis and Kyle Fletcher who came out and allowed Bennett to hit KOR with a low blow for the win [****1/4]. Leyla Hirsch vs Diamante: This did not disappoint, some creative moments they had a violent clash and went at it, Hirsch hitting the moonsault off the ladder onto Diamante who was taped to the table was a cool spot [****]. Lee Moriarty vs Wheeler Yuta: While I did think that this match was decent enough, I don't think this should have gone almost 20 minutes, the action was solid and the pure rules stipulation was exercised in a great way right til the end [****]. Red Velvet vs Billie Starkz: A solid women's world television title match, decent action from bell to bell with an unexpected title change [***]. Dustin Rhodes, Marshall Von Erich & Ross Von Erich vs Alex Reynolds, Evil Uno & John Silver: Not a bad trios match, the action was okay but a bit off at times [***1/4]. Atlantis Jr vs Brian Cage vs Johnny TV vs Lee Johnson vs Lio Rush vs Shane Taylor: A fairly decent survival of the fittest match with some decent moments, with the wrestlers involved they did the best that they could do [***1/2]. Athena vs Queen Aminata: Athena keeps putting on banger after banger, with another banger with this one against a very game Aminata, the action was on point throughout and one of the best title defenses from Athena [*****]. Mark Briscoe vs Roderick Strong: Felt like a mid 2000s ROH main event match, the history between these two made this more compelling and they did not disappoint, Briscoe proved once again that he is worthy of being the ROH World champion, a great title defense and enjoyed it throughout [*****]"
[7.0] "This was a PPV that was already frustrating on paper. There's a shift in ROH's booking as it looks toward the future, with somewhat of an effort to prioritize ROH-only wrestlers. Yet the top of the card remains AEW crossovers, as AEW continues to try and keep ROH profitable and valuable in contract negotiations. But at the same time, the ROH-only wrestlers are understandably not great. If they were, they'd be on AEW TV! So we have this card where it's unclear what matches will deliver and what won't, despite past ROH PPVs overdelivering. Most of the card worked out exactly as I expected. The Dark Order/von Erich match and lucha matches overdelivered for me, while the 6-man and the tag championship both underwhelmed. What makes this a mediocre PPV isn't that, though. It was that both of the main events should have, could have been huge successes but ended with fucky overbooked finishes that left me not wanting to watch more ROH in the future."
[9.0] "It is a very classic ROH PLE that will be remembered for a very very long time. Every single match in this PLE is great beginning with a great match between two talented luchadors (****1/4) then with another awesome tag team match (****1/4) and a great women's texas death match (****) and a classic ROH Pure Championship match (****). ROH Women's World TV Championship match was very good (***3/4). The Six-Man Eliminator tag was decent enough (***1/4). The survival of the fittest match was also a very good match that had great spots and moments but with very stupid ending and Brian Cage no selling a low blow kinda bugged me (****). And what can i say about the Women's World Championship match it is another banger from Athena and this match is very classic and special it is one of the greatest ROH Women's matches of all time (****1/2). Moving on to the main event which is another all-time classic match and Mark Briscoe delievered an all-time performance in this match and the match really feels like it is one of the 2000s ROH classics (****3/4). Another ROH all-time great PLE from TK as always."
[10.0] "Nothing exemplifies the curate's egg nature of Tony's Ring of Honor quite like this show, because, let's be honest, the TV product has been aimless ever since it lost its spot on linear television. But with rumours abounding that it might just get back on TV somehow, Jacksonville needs to put its best foot forward in not just AEW, but across the board, and so we're given this, quite possibly the best show since Sinclair-ROH's swan-song three years ago. It's very hard to put on a card where there are no bad matches. It's even harder to put on cards that - were it not for a certain lad from Essex dropping bangers in his sleep - would have multiple serious contenders for MOTY. A really good event. Not on the level of Dynasty or Revolution, but I certainly have no qualms about giving it the 10."
[9.0] "Terrific PPV that was a wrestling buffet of every kind of match that makes this business possible. Komander/Mortos was an awesome lucha libre showcase that had some spectacular sequences and spots (****). Undisputed Kingdom vs Ishii & O'Reilly was a very good tag team encounter that overdelivered. The finish lacked in living up to the work leading up to it (***3/4). Leyla/Diamante was a great Texas Death Match that featured blood that elevated the in-ring work and storytelling involved (****). Moriarty/Yuta was an excellent technical wrestling clinic that had some brilliant mat work and submissions at play (****1/4). Velvet/Billie was a good bout that was more story driven than most expected going in (***1/2). Dustin & Von Erichs/Dark Order was a house show-esque trios match that the fans were more vocal than I thought they would be going in (***). Survival of the Fittest was a lot of fun, but it didn't fully highlight everyone involved that I was hoping for (***1/2). Athena/Aminata was tremendous with a splendid performance from Athena who has truly become the Johnny Takeover of these ROH PPVs. Meanwhile, Aminata put on her best match of her AEW/ROH run so far. The chemistry was strong with these two combining exceptional in-ring work with a smart story throughout (****1/2). Finally, things ended with a fantastic main event w/Briscoe/Strong. It felt like a 2000s era Ring of Honor main event driven off the two competitors' shared history and quality performances (****1/2)."
[8.0] "This was another successful PPV under the banner of Ring of Honor, which has been a recurring theme even though the weekly show on HonorClub is barely prominent. The answers to some of the major questions in AEW's booking decisions are right here, especially cementing the primary champions as strong frontrunners for wrestling fans to sink their teeth and follow up constantly. Even, the structure and the pacing served better for the PPV and the more compact atmosphere was the cherry on the cake's top. If this momentum was maintained and somehow factored in its way to enhance the flaws in AEW, ROH would become its old self of being sought after by all generations of fans."
[10.0] "Once again, the ROH PPV hits it out of the park. Every match on this show was unique, which I think helped keep my interest despite the length. You had everything from exciting lucha in the opener, to a great tag match, a deathmatch, technical chess battle between Lee and Yuta, a very stiff women's title match, and then a main event that represented classic ROH about as well as a match could in this day and age. There truly was something for everybody on this show."
[9.0] "A bit long nevertheless an incredibly electrifying & hot ppv. Every match delivers in some form. Athena guarantees a 5 star match every single PPV. Once she's done with her ROH reign, she needs to be a big player in AEW. Speaking of Athena though her dance partner Queen Aminata never misses as well. Echoing some of the other comments, the main event was an incredible bout between 2 ROH legends. Incredible chemistry throughout the match and high stakes. Props to Mark for working such a match only a couple days after Blood&Guts. With a smaller but louder crowd the whole show but specifically the main event teared the house apart, felt nostalgic af. While I was surprised to Starkz's reign was over (not following ROH weekly), Red Velvet also seemingly got much better so no complaints there. Both Beast Mortos/Komander and Leyla Hirsch/Diamante came out of nowhere to me. Komander-Mortos usually has a good chemistry though from what I can call their last bout left me with more to desire. My desires have met here as Komander is completely sick with his aerial maneuvers. The man flies across between ropes to hit a DDT. Lee Moriarty's win was the right call and it was executed in a smart way. Some good old grappling wrestling if you are into that. Survival of the Fittest was arguably quite random but every wrestler (minus the little mishap with Lee Johnson) worked well. Johnny TV was actually the MVP. I never get tired of his mannerism. Such a cool dude that doesn't know what aging is. The Conglomeration match (with the inclusion of Ishii) was red hot and I actually thought they were going to win. I don't not necessarily like the inclusion of the Don Callis Family but whatever. The Dark Order vs. Dustin & Von Erichs was not really a PPV worthy match but I get the point. It was a cool win for the Texas' own trio. I kinda wished the opener and TDO/Erichs&Dustin were on Zero Hour instead so we could have saved up to 30 mins. The pre-show matches were regular TV matches with 0 stakes. But the event itself almost never disappoints. Regardless, it seems ROH will be kept something as you'd visit from a PPV to another."
[9.0] "How is it that the ROH female division is so much better than the AEW division? In every PPV these female wrestlers deliver banger after banger and yet they seem to get a lot less attention than other less talented female wrestlers. In particular Athena, she is really on another level. Every match of hers is a MOTY candidate. Queen Aminata deserves also to be a main eventer in the female division, she keeps improving at great speed. The main event really brought me back to the golden age of ROH. So happy to see two real ROH legends give everything they have. Oh btw, the crowd was fantastic. Overall another great PPV in terms of match quality. Too bad that the ownership has decided not to care at all about ROH though. Most of these matches have been thrown in the PPV without any story behind. I mean, ROH Honorclub runs weekly (most times well over 1 hour), and yet they dont seem to care to develop storylines or create feuds. They barely do the basic, so much so that Honorclub is impossible to watch. The quality is so low. As a long time ROH fan, please i beg you, start creating some storylines and feuds, dont fill up your shows with random matches that nobody wants to watch. And send some menpower down from AEW, there are so many wrestlers that dont have enough space there, what is the point of keeping them on the bench, just send them to ROH to raise the star power."
[6.0] "Much like many of the TKROH PPVs, the show was overly long closing in at nearly four hours. There were some good matches as the roster is left to their own devices to step up and perform with Roderick//Briscoe and Diamante/Leyla Hirsch being my two favorites of the show. Athena survives again to probably lose the title in another five months to Billie Starkz since at that point Athena will have the longest ROH title reign in history. Some other enjoyable matches like Mortos/Kommander. The problems with TKROH are still overwhelmingly apparent but it helps that they have a talented roster that can suppress those issues in ring. The weekly show most likely will be back to filler business as usual following this show until Final Battle but I would not mind being wrong."
[10.0] "Every single match delivered. There wasnt any match I would call a Match if the Year type contender (even if we pretend that Ospreay-Danielson all-time classic didnt happen), but there was no match I can honestly rate any lower than a 7 and theres more matches Im leaning towards rating a 10 than a 7."
"homerun of a show. the esports arena is a welcome change for roh and though roh ppvs are usually killer, this setting added so much more and gave it an intimate feel and that made this show feel the most similar to old roh since the TK era began. great card top to bottom, diamante/hirsch match of the night for me"
[8.0] "The main event elevated what was an average PPV. A lot of good match, but ones that could easily have been TV matches, or have been bigger deals if built up properly. ROH TV is just a repackaged AEW Dark, it can be 2015-2019 NXT if booked properly and with the right level stars, but as it stands, I only really watch the big shows like this one."
[9.0] "Really good show with and excellent double header main event. Athena continues to impress with her historic reign as champion and is one of the best big Match wrestlers in 2024. The Briscoe vs Strong match was incredible the Mark defeating Roderick with the Froggy Bow instead of his brothers Jay Driller was a really nice touch cementing Mark's reign symbolizes him carving out his own legacy in the tragic wake of his brothers passing. Lots of other fun matches on this show as well. Big wins for Moriarty and Red Velvet plus both the Texas Death Match and Komander vs Mortos matches delivered big. This show comes highly recommend by me."
[9.0] "Super fun show. I was planning on watching this on demand but my insomnia meant I ended up watching it all live. The show massively outperformed my expectations. Athena not being featured weekly on AEW TV continues to confound me, shes so good. I thought the decision to have Velvet win the belt off Billie was very odd. Bit a couple of times on false finishes in the main event, particularly after the Gibson Driver then Sick Kick combo. I know hating on Roddy is the in thing but tonight showed hes still got what it takes between the ropes - reminded me of why Roddy was one of my favourite wrestlers in like 2005. Overall pretty much every match over delivered. The SOTF match was probably the weakest on the show but that was a rare low in a show that consistently over delivered."
"Incredible night of wrestling. Starting from zero hour with the premiere of MxM to the incredible opener with Kommander pulling off some moves Ive never seen before through the thrilling end with Mark Briscoe. No skips, all bangers and some MotY candidates. Felt like everything thats great about RoH. Must watch."
