[4.0] "This show looked great on paper, Unfortunately, it largely failed to deliver. The opening match between Samoa Joe, Hook, and Katsuyori Shibata and the Premier Athletes was a fine opener, but had no business being the second best thing on this show. The Learning Tree vs. Private Party was just bad and Chris Jericho needs to focus on being a manager. Kazuchika Okada vs. Ultimo Guerrero should have been good, but failed to move beyond a snail's pace. The Patriarchy squashed the Iron Savages and Jacked Jameson in trios action. Mariah May and Toni Storm had a fun match against Layla Hirsch and Lady Frost. We were then treated to a pair of squash matches as The Kings of the Black Throne went over LSG and MSG and Hechicero went over Matt Menard. Finally, Will Osprey had another match of the night performance, this time defending his International Title against Brian Cage."

Loving Jericho's new group, this is getting Big Bill over with me in a big way; I love how he seems like maybe he's playing it straight compared to Jericho's more cynical fakery. And I did not expect that final match to go so hard, but Brian Cage has been killing it lately and Ospreay made him look like a million bucks."

Hook, Katsuyori Shibata & Samoa Joe vs Ariya Daivari, Josh Woods & Tony Nese: An okay trios match to open the show, the pairing of Hook/Shibata/Joe is intriguing and an okay match to get them started [**]. Big Bill & Chris Jericho vs Isiah Kassidy & Marq Quen: A match that went too long, was not that great, Bryan Keith getting involved and a few false finishes, did not pique my interest [*]. Kazuchika Okada vs Ultimo Guerrero: It was botch a mania, did not have any chemistry, one of the worst matches of Okada Ive seen [1/2*]. Christian Cage, Killswitch & Nick Wayne vs Boulder, Bronson & Jacked Jameson: Did not like this match, Cage sat at commentary and only got in the ring at the end even though it was a trios match, it was got the most part essentially a handicap match [DUD]. Mariah May & Toni Storm vs Lady Frost & Leyla Hirsch: Not a bad match, the action was average to be honest, Storm and May were the obvious winners here, did feel a bit overtimed [**]. Brody King & Malakai Black vs LSG & MSG: A pointless squash match [DUD]. Hechicero vs Matt Menard: This felt like another pointless squash match, nothing memorable happened [DUD]. Will Ospreay vs Brian Cage: A great title defense for Ospreay, their wrestling styles meshed well together, MOTN easily [****]"

Really fun women's tag match with Toni & Mariah against Lady Frost and LLL. Great storytelling. Finally so happy that we get to watch Okada and Will Osprey on weekly AEW shows."

[4.0] "A weird episode all around. I had wondered why the promo video for Ultimo Guerrero on Rampage had been edited around showing his face. As others have said, he has wrestled without a mask for years. That match ended up being one of the all-time worst singles match for Okada. There's a lot of trios tag stuff taking shape but that for me will always be the least interesting division. No interesting angles, only the main and the women's tag match were worth watching. Lots of botches and weird moments throughout the show. The first half of the main event made me think they were playing it a little safe because of the upcoming PPV, but I think in the end the pacing helped Cage look like the kind of guy who is very risky to go aerial against. I think you could also hear a little too much in the ring during this episode as well."

[9.0] "Wasnt that bad, this site seems to really dislike Collision despite what the card is. The Samoa Joe, Hook and Shibata storyline is progressing smoothly and I am really starting to like the Joe n Hook pairing and could be very beneficial to both. Not sure what the non speaking Shibata is doing with them besides just being a cameraman, but they did a good enough job for me to start to get excited for a trios match. As for Heels go, Christian Cage has to be top 3 most evil and his antics on this show was hilarious. Cant wait to see how much more Killswitch takes of this psychopath. Any card where we get to see Toni Storm is never a bad thing as she put on a great match with Mariah May. The main event was the bread and butter of this episode and although the end result was predicable, Will Ospreay and Brian Cage put on one hell of a banger, both men being so athletic they most definitely did not disappoint."

I could hardly focus on the show because of its boring and pointless structure. the only positive and acceptable thing about it was the main event, which was pretty good! the rest of the show was one of the worst AEW shows that I've ever seen! I don't have a serious issue with random matches but at least, they should perform adequately and don't make us fall asleep during the show!"

That package has me rooting for Jeff to make it to the Owen finals. The downside was the excruciating long Learning tree match, that deducted some points from this episode."
kwadiava wrote on 24.06.2024:
[4.0] "Key points: Jeff Jarrett promo, Ospreay's defense against Cage and bits of opener. Key words: It sucked as a whole. Not gonna lie, I am that guy who wants pretty much everyone to get a TV time. But that should be done adequately. As a filler feud, Hook/Joe/Shibata against Premier Athletes somehow works. Their reinstallment to AEW is pretty much alright if they want to follow up from here. Liked how Shibata and Woods tried to outmaneuver each other. Learning Tree vs. Private Party was insufferable and simply done wrong. I don't even get why it's not Big Bill and Bryan Keith instead as Jericho being their managers but alright, old wolf wants to 'teach' it himself. The whole match becomes the second longest match on your screen. To accomplish what? Okada vs Guerrero was a total slop, offensively bad and probably one of the worst I've seen in a while on Collision. Guerrero had troubles (the guy is 52 y.o.) but the angles and the goddamn mask didn't help him either. When you first type Ultimo Guerrero to any search engine on the fkn earth you get unmasked pictures of him. Guess why? He wrestled unmasked. Okada wrestled him just like that and is well aware of it. AEW acknowledges the history, no? So what he's doing up there with this stupid looking unfitting mask? On the other hand, Okada being unable to outperform anyone cleanly is getting lazy. He doesn't need to pull a shit out of his ass every match. Let him wrestle clean. Not sure if there was any communication barriers beyond all these crap but the match was real sloppy. Patriarchy match was fun but Iron Savages is not working as a comedy stable, nobody cared about Jacked Jameson's promo or Boulder's tiddies. I miss the Bear Country to be fair. MM&TS vs. Frost & Hirsch was pretty much a regular match. As a duo both Mariah and Toni has a strong chemistry. HoB squash was useless. A simple promo would have been enough. Hechicero vs Daddy Magic didn't develop enough. If only they did cut some tree and added 3 or 4 minutes to this, Hechicero could have been more technical. Main event was actually very solid and I like the way they use Brian Cage now. He's putting the work out there and might be a championship material soon enough. In general, this was a very filler-ish episode of Collision despite we are only a week away from Forbidden Door."
charliefiction wrote on 24.06.2024:
"Solid if unspectacular episode of Collision, but the Cage/Ospreay match and the opening trios match raise the score from a 6 to a 7. The builds for Forbidden Door are clearly communicated here, and familiarity with guys like Hechicero has grown because they're given TV time. The shorter squash/angle matches had a good blend of humor and angle-building (esp. Christian's work with the Patriarchy)."

[5.0] "Following a fantastic episode of Dynamite was this absolute mess of a show. The Jericho/Big Bill vs. Private Party match just would not fucking end. They kept kicking out of big spots over and over and over and over again and the longer it got, the shittier it got. Who asked for this match to be 15 minutes anyways? They could have done a 5 minute match and it would have been fine. Talk about overstaying your welcome, which of course, is the theme of Jericho's career right now. We got a LOT of filler on this show too. You know they threw in the towel when they sent out the fucking Iron Savages. I was actually excited for Okada vs. Ultimo Guerrero but the match severely under delivered. I heard the match was actually kind of a disaster live and the match that aired must have been heavily edited. All because they insisted that UG wear his mask even though he's been wrestling unmasked for a fucking DECADE. I did think Toni Storm and Mariah May vs. Layla Hirsch and Lady Frost was a fun little match and Ospreay vs. Cage was also a good main event but my GOD did it take a while for this show to pick up."

I enjoyed the Private Party vs Learning Tree match and thought the outcome could have gone either way. The Patriarchy trios match didnt do much from an in ring standpoint but was a nice piece of character work for Christian Cage as a heel. The Ospreay vs Brian Cage match was a typical great Ospreay match and a strong showing for Brian Cage who continues to impress when given singles opportunities."

[2.0] "This was rather boring, super predictable and disjointed show. It never came to bring itself together at any point..... Started off with Joe, Hook, Shibata vs Premier Athletes. Good for Joe that he is doing interesting work with Hook but why was he demoted down from being main Heavyweight champion to this silly feud with Premier Athlete. I mean he didn't even get his rematch from Swerve which is laughable because Swerve defended his title against the likes of Roderick Strong, Christian and Claudio. But no Joe. Laughable booking...... Then we get a somewhat decent promo from Bang Bang Gang or Bullet Club Gold...... Then comes the dreadful Learning Tree match. This is where it gets tough. I wanted to skip through the whole match. Jericho is stiff, slow and gassed up. He looks like a piece of steak that was left in open for days. I'm amazed as to how one could achieve a dreadful physique like that. I used to like him but just look at his sorry state right now. He has sucked the life out of Big Bill's push. He is sucking the life out of everyone he comes in contact with. Dude needs to take a long rest and then come back. You're not reinventing yourself. You're not funny just because you lean into it or you gain self awareness. Probably one of the worst matches of recent times.... Then Joe and Hook interrupt them and challenge them. Looks like mini feud with Premier Athletes is over...... Then we have another dreadful match between Okada and Guerrero. Okada should be a top star. You want him as a heel? Sure get him to destroy his opponents. Why is he doing stuff like this? Very slow and lazy match which benefitted no one...... Then we get some squashes which I liked. At least some break from the monotony of boring long heatless matches..... We get some other promos (not that interesting), a decent women's tag match and then the main event. Ospreay needs to learn the art of selling. I hate those no sell spots and so do many others..... Very very weak show with nothing much happening to advance any feud for Forbidden Door."

[3.0] "This was probably one of the worst Collision episodes of all time. The main event was very good, the women's tag match was decent and the Jeff Jarrett segment was great, but everything else was just flat out bad. Half of the card was squash matches, which seems to become the norm for Collision for some reason. It's neither must watch TV nor for the sickos, since predictable main eventer vs jobber matches on a constant basis are for neither. There's really nothing happening on the show other than the odd good match here and there. Collision needs something on a weekly basis to incentivize people to watch and fast."

[3.0] "5 hours of television is clearly too much for Tony Khan, as once again we have another phoned in episode of AEW Collision. "Where the best wrestle". Does the best include Jacked Jameson? Ricky Starks can't buy TV time to save himself and yet Jacked Jameson gets a live microphone on national television. Sammy Guevara has been in the dog house for months for injuring someone who is no longer with the company. Wardlow has disappeared again. It's baffling. After the unexpected Dynamite rating this week, I was hoping for a palette cleanser from the endless discourse with a great Collision. What we got was 3 squash matches, an absolute horror show between Okada and Ultimo Guerrero (where Guerrero was forced to be masked, and spent the whole time struggling to breathe) and a 15 minute (! ) slog between Chris Jericho/Big Bill and Private Party. Jericho looked horendous in this match, which was painfully long. Seriously, I was in pain watching it. Collision doesn't feel worth watching anymore. For awhile it was my favorite wrestling show on TV - but in the last few weeks it has become something else entirely. Boring, predictable and, yes, phoned in. Thank god for Will Ospreay."

Its carried on a trend of poorly booked and performed episode of collision over the last few months that is pushing the show closer and closer to Rampage and missable territory. The one highlight was Ian Riccaboni appearing on stage briefly. Hes nearly there Tony, put him in the commentary booth for the love of graps JUST DO IT."

[7.0] "Really torn on this one. The start of the show was honestly pretty bad, we don't need to see The Premier Athletes wrestle for almost eight minutes and we really do not need to see Jericho in a fifteen minute match especially after we had a really nice Private Party tag on Rampage the day before, just makes them look bad after an impressive showing on Rampage. Okada and Ultimo was a bit sloppy considering I had high expectations but I still liked it a fair bit. Don't care at all for the Iron Savages and don't need them to have a long entrance where Jacked Whatever talks to dead silence but Christian on commentary and him coming in to take the pinfall from the desk made the match worth it to me. Lady Frost & Leyla Hirsch on the other hand I am happy to see get 8 minutes, those two are really good and I like to see them get a bit of a showcase with Toni and Mariah, if they stopped putting people nobody cares about like Premier Athletes and spots like that and more people with serious potential like Frost and Leyla I think they'd build more people that way. You come out of that match wanting to see more Lady Frost and Leyla Hirsch because they're good while you come out of the Premiere Athletes match happy with the interactions Joe/Hook/Shibata have but are still wondering why geeks who never win and suck get 8 minutes. Very interested in the direction the House of Black is going. Hechicero had a nice showcase too ahead of his match with MJF at Forbidden Door. The main event carried this show and is the reason I'm giving this a 7 instead of a 6. Brian Cage has settled perfectly into his role and Will always delivers. A pretty bad start to the show followed up by an enjoyable 2nd hour that wiped some of the bad taste out of my mouth and left me overall positive on my time watching."

[2.0] "I expect nothing from 2024 AEW, but I still wind up disappointed. A spiralling, hopeless two hours full of underwhelming matches and bland storytelling. I expected Cage/Ospreay to feed more into what Ospreay is good at, bumping his ass off for dudes far bigger than him, but you don't really get that. Of all things for a Will Ospreay main event to be, it winds up slow and meandering. Hechi/Menard was somehow worse than the expectation. Hechicero's gimmick may be a weird BDSM Lucha Wizard, but he couldn't cast a single spell to help Papa Magie, who didn't feel at home in this slot whatsoever. House of Black squash was fun, not much more than that. Mariah and Toni vs Frost and Hirsch was pretty cool, loving the direction they're going with the Women's champion and her understudy. Patriarchy match was whatever, commentary was great but the Iron Savages were almost getting no noise from the crowd. Okada and Ultimo underwhelmed hugely, a clunky and slow one from them. Ultimo getting beaten by an unmasking despite having been unmasked for ages was quite the decision. Learning Tree/Private Party was next level dogshit. Longest match apart from the main, and somehow felt twice as long as the also very boring main. Opener was whatever, who even cares about the first leg and what it set up? The Learning Tree is such a damp stain on the card every single time it's around, and HOOK/Joe/Shibata scoring themselves a pay per view match against them feels like nothing but a hindrance. Forgettable, bland nothingness at the exact wrong time. Forbidden Door is truly driven by pure vibes, because this buildup has been everything except engaging."

[7.0] "A rather strange show, but with few things to rescue. The first fight was short, but entertaining. I really like that trio of Hook, Joe and Shibata. The Private Party vs Jericho tag team was pretty low and slow. Same for Okada vs Guerrero. The female tag team fight was very good, the best in the entire show in conjunction with the main event between Ospreay vs Cage. I will not take into account the squash fights that took place on the show, but the excess of these methods are useless in a television wrestling program. I hope they reduce the amount as the weeks go by. A fairly low show, but redeemable in some things. 7/10."

However, the undercard felt a bit slow at times with a few forgettable matches. Okada/Ultimo Guerrero was a disappointment and didn't fully hit its stride. On the bright side, the Jarrett video package added some depth and intrigue. Collision provided enough entertainment making it a decent watch despite its flaws. Felt more like an extended episode of Rampage."

The womens tag was good, Okada vs Ultimo Guerrero was slow but entertaining and Will Ospreay vs Brian Cage was the best match. The rest is a dull, meaningless show. The christian's story with House of Black came to nothing. Neither a promo nor a confrontation, something so that I can give a continuation.Tony Khan must divide the roster and give it that classic approach that Collision had in its beginnings. The note is fair."

[7.0] "[6.6] A decent show, but absolutely one of Collision's weakest outings. The first hour started off decent enough with Joe/Hook/Shibata, but then it dragged on for forever, between the Jericho and Big Bill vs Private Party match that was inexplicably the second longest thing on the show, and what was ultimately a Patriarchy squash match that felt way longer than it was. Okada vs Guerrero was enjoyable, but was missing a lot of heat, as was a lot of the stuff on the show, the crowd was absolutely dead. The second hour picked up a bit, though, with an enjoyable Mariah and Toni tag match, Hechicero continuing to be super impressive even in a squash, and a really good Ospreay vs Cage match. Overall, feels like a rare time where Collision went for quantity over quality and it just didn't turn out well. The good stuff was really good, but a lot of it dragged."

[6.0] "A tale of two halves, because dear god did the first half of the show start to drag on. I don't know who had the bright idea to have Jericho go on for fifteen minutes, because even though I could understand the story that they were telling, I just couldn't get into the match. Really, the first few matches failed to get out of low gear; Okada vs. Guerrero was also pretty rough considering the skill of the two men. But then something clicked, and I started to enjoy the second half more than the first. Seriously, I actually enjoyed the squash matches from the Patriarchy and Hechicero more than the first hour. And then there was Ospreay vs. Cage, which just proves that in cases where you need to improve the card, just break the glass and send the lad from Essex out. Hell, that match is the only reason I'm rating this so "high", because otherwise it was a pretty "meh" show."
