It doesn't help that even if the show was a home run it would still feel like a disappointment with all of the commercials and worthless filler in between matches."

With the crowning of FOUR new champions, and Romans return, it truly felt like, at the time, WWE was ready to shift gears into their next progressing stories heading into fall & winter. A great start for it all. I enjoyed most of the matches, yes even Drew/Punk (bracelet lore good), and the show flowed well too despite being filled with ads all over the place. Rhea/Liv - ***1/2, Sami/Bron - **3/4, Logan/LA - ***3/4, Nia/Bayley - ***, Drew/Punk - ****, Priest/Gunther - ****1/4, Cody/Solo - **3/4."

Sami Zayn vs Bron Breakker was basically a repeat of their match at Money in the Bank. Seth Rollins being the most entertaining part of Drew McIntyre vs CM Punk took me out of it and it was focused too much on the bracelet. Gunther and Damian Priest was going to be fun until they did The Judgement Day angle and Finn cost Gunther. Cody vs Solo was the slowest match in history."

Everything that happened here ended up mattering a lot for the rest of the year, Drew v. Punk, Paul v. Knight, and Gunther v. Priest all ended up being very special and solid matches. Hell, somehow Bayley got a serviceable match out of Nia Jax, of all people. WWE had some stinker PPVs in 24 but this isn't one of them."

[6.0] "WWE SummerSlam developed many stories focusing on the company's two biggest stables, the implosion of Judgment Day and the return of Roman Reigns, but looking in the ring (which is what matters in a wrestling show), it was bad, the card had ONE good match and it wasn't even all of that, in addition to several meaningless things like Sami being "squashed", Roman helping Cody, Gunther needing help to beat Priest and especially the hottest feud in the company being reduced to a stupid bracelet. For those who like soap operas will love this show, for those who want to see great matches, this show is a huge disappointment. Liv vs. Rhea: Mexican soap opera, terrible match, highlight Dom's turn (*3/4), Sami vs. Bron: the guy who ended Gunther's reign lost in 5 minutes (**), Paul vs. Knight: match of the night (***3/4), Bayley vs. Nia: better than I expected, but the result is terrible (***1/4). Drew vs. Punk: they reduced the feud to a bracelet, what a joke (***). Damian vs. Gunther: the guy who doesn't even beat Jey Uso cleanly almost beat Gunther cleanly, go figure (***). Cody vs. Solo: Roman's return totally saved this match, Solo is not a main eventer under any circumstances (***)."

The only match that was solid was Gunther/Priest. I expected that though. Finn turning on Priest was solid although a bit odd the way it was executed. Too many dirty finishes on this show. We need more clean wins."

The IC title match was good in the short time it got and it did well in cementing the unstoppable badass bit with Bron Breakker. The US title match was super fun to watch, and im happy we have a new US Champ. The WWE Womens title was actually pretty fun to watch for me. Drew vs Punk was very interesting seeing Punk return to the ring and the storytelling with Seth & Punk. The World Heavyweight title match was brutal and hard hitting, and Finns interference added more to it. The main event was a bit underwhelming but I enjoyed all of it. Overall, not one thing was bad with this show in my opinion, everything solidly delivered."

It shines in that it sets up the rest of the year well from a creative standpoint and the trigger was finally pulled on Bron Breakker and Gunther. Roman returning was great, a lot of the matches fell flat though. Cody/Solo Bloodline Rules was not good, Rhea/Liv was meh, Bron/Zayn was weirdly restrained and they topped it and then some on TV in that 2/3 falls main event. I liked Priest/Gunther and Knight/Paul. Again, the strength of the show was the creative."

Carries such a presence and aura around him. Also we had 4 title changes, all of which were the correct picks. A new superstar is born in Bron Breakker, LA knight finally has his moment, Gunther is the world champ and the Judgement Day saga may possibly be the hottest story in wrestling currently. Punk vs McIntyre was entertaining AF and my match of the night. Full of soap opera drama and great storytelling."

That changed this past month, as I kept waking up excited to check out what had happened the previous night on WWE's programming. It was finally time for me to dive back in, and what better time than during the so-called 'biggest party of the summer'? I'm happy to report I had tons of fun, with almost every single match delivering, whether in storytelling or in-ring action. If the product stays this entertaining, there's no doubt I'll keep on watching."

Not to say the matches weren't good, Gunther VS Priest is awesome and many other matches on this card go hard. The only real dud in my opinion is Zayn VS Breakker. Morgan VS Ripley is a fine enough match ending with a killer angeling, Knight VS Paul is a blast of brawl, Jax VS Bayley goes very hard for no reason, McIntyre VS Punk (while the worst of their triology) is still solid. The main event, as I said in my comment of it, is just a worst version of the Wrestlemania 40 main event but it is still a fun match. 4 title changes, a killer World Championship match, moments on moments and the return of Roman Reigns to cap it off? Easily one of my PPV/PLEs of the year."

Roman Reigns dramatic return was definitely a highlight, and Gunther vs. Damian Priest delivered a hard-hitting, entertaining clash that really stood out. However, the show overall was a bit underwhelming. The main event between Cody Rhodes and Solo Sikoa felt predictable and didnt quite live up to the hype. While there were some exciting twists, like Finn Balors shocking betrayal and Liv Morgans intense match with Rhea Ripley, the show seemed more focused on advancing storylines rather than delivering a string of great matches. As for CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre, it was a match with a lot of build-up, but it didnt quite hit the heights fans were hoping for. The story between them was compelling, but the execution felt a bit flat, but it builds to what's coming between them. Overall, while there were some memorable moments and surprises, the show didnt fully hit the mark for a major event. It wasnt terrible and definitely had its entertaining moments, but it left a lot to be desired."

The worst match was the main event , all the other matches wrestling wise were better , this was mostly all about Romans return to confront Solo , there were some fun spots between Cody and Solo , but the main part of the bloodline rules match is the surprises or the returns. My favorite match was Gunther vs Priest , they delivered it was just a hard hitting match and they held nothing back. One highlight spot was the strike exchange between Gunther and Priest. The turn at the end from Balor was surprising and good. Match ratings Liv vs Rhea 7/10 , Bron vs Sami 8/10, Logan vs La 7/10, Nia vs Bayley 7/10, McIntyre vs Punk 7/10 , Gunther vs Priest 8/10 , Cody vs solo 6/10."

It's a bold move to have 3 "shocking turns" be the finish to matches (including the opener and the main event) when there's only 7 matches total. It really could have used a high energy tag match or less Nia Jax, but by no means a bad show, just a hair above average probably. The main event really felt like a watered down version of the WrestleMania main event without the same star power. WWE's product has definitely become more watchable over the last few months, but the "sameness" of matches is maybe worse than ever."

[9.0] "Summerslam '24 was probably my favorite PLE this year (aside from Wrestlemania). On every level, it was almost the Platonic Ideal of what I want in a good wrestling event. Ripley/Morgan was aggressive, and dramatic. I would argue this was Liv Morgan's best match to date, with her pulling out more complex moves than I've seen her do in the past. The fake-out-into-sincere-betrayal by Dominick was fantastic. Logan/Knight was probably my favorite of either of their matches. The start outside the ring was "Turned Up To 10" in intensity. Knight gave a top-turnbuckle Muscle Buster (i think it was supposed to be a suplex, but Logan didn't fully lean in) that was preposterous. Knight's win was well deserved and well earned. I understand the short length of Sami/Breakker was controversial, but it worked for me! I took it as Bron doing what he does best: learning and adapting. He had Sami's number, said "Not today, Canadian" and basically squashed him. It was quick, but (again) very aggressive. Punk/McIntire was my "Mark Out" moment. There was so much tied into this one match, they really didn't need to do much to get me into it. I liked the story of it, what with Punk just being physically outclassed at every turn by Drew, and then "hoisted by his own petards" due to his own emotions at seeing Seth with his bracelet. I saw some complaints that he looked especially winded in this, but my counter to that is he seems to wrestle with the mindset of making it look like an effort. He did the same thing back in his first WWE run. Bayley/Jax was my low point of the night, but by no means did I dislike the match. It had a bit of a slow start. This served to differentiate it from the rest of the night in not being quite as interesting. That being said, the second half picked up the pace. Stratton made it "seem like" she was trying to cash in, but Bayley denied that. This led to Nia just obliterating Bayley with a wild sequence and getting the belt. Bayley's run was a bit lackluster, so hopefully this leads to a refresh. Priest/Gunther was yet another incredibly physical match. Those two beat the hell out of each other, with Gunther looking a bit worried at times. With yet another Judgment Day betrayal by Finn Balor, Gunther won the belt. It's a fitting conclusion to Damien's run: each of his wins were due to interference, so his loss is due to interference. Cody/Solo was my favorite match I've seen Solo have. I thought he looked and moved great and was dominating Cody a lot. Jacob Fatu looked incredible, as always. Roman's return was everything I wanted it to be, and he made his intentions very clear. All in all, this was a fantastic PLE where every match both advanced stories, worked physically, and didn't overstay their welcomes."

It felt like the event was used solely as build-up, as opposed to it being treated as the event it should be. Not the worst event in the world, but not worth rewatching. [7.0] "Overall, a very enjoyable show. I'd rate it somewhere between a 7-8, so I'll settle on a 7.5 There wasn't anything here that was spectacular as everything that happened was foreshadowed well in advanced, but predictability isn't necessarily a bad thing. That said, the in-ring work was a little lacking for my taste, with all but one match having some interference, and the one match that didn't was the shortest match of the night. Liv/Rhea was fine once they started actually started grappling, and Rhea showed her acting chops here with that shoulder injury and her reaction to Dom's betrayal. Liv showed that she can at least hang with Rhea when it matters. The important stuff came after the match however with Dom showing his true colors. Great storytelling and hot way to open the show. Not much to say about Bron/Sami; it felt more like a formality than an actual match since they had the actual match last month; Really wish they just pulled the trigger then because this match was much weaker as a result. Anyway, the right guy won. LA Knight/Logan Paul was a good match and I'm really impressed by how much Knight has improved in the ring while maintaining his popularity from last year; this moment was well-deserved and arguably came much later than it needed to. Hopefully Smackdown can have an actual midcard again. Nia/Bayley was whatever, Triple H did not care an iota about Bayley's title reign so its hard to be invested in Nia's win, but it legitimatized QOTR and furthers the story with her and Tiffany. Drew/Punk had arguably the biggest to live up to given the months of buildup it had, and while it kind of fell short as a blood-fueled match, it excelled in the storytelling and told the tale of Punk being the instrument of his own destruction, in a way that mirrors what's been happening to Drew for the last couple of months; this is definitely not the end for them and hopefully they bring that hatred to their next fight. Priest/Gunther was, predictably, the MOTN. Its literally impossible for Gunther to have a bad match, but points to Priest for keeping pace; he's not as gifted of a technician as Gunther, but he has the power to make up for it. The crowd was super hot for this match, just two big guys going at it. Favorite moment was Priest getting second wind after seeing Gunther attack Balor, only to be repaid by Balor's betrayal a few moments later and losing the match because he took his eyes off his opponent. The fabled Judgment Day implosion that's been building since last year is finally here. Points where its due, Priest arrived as Champion and now feels like a legitimate main eventer and now has tons of sympathy as a result of Balor's betrayal. Gunther takes his rightful place as the top Champion of Raw right before Berlin, where he'll probably defend it against Seth or Drew. I'm gonna ignore the dumb Awesome Truth segment as I didn't even see it. Which brings us to the main event, Cody/Solo. Yea, this match was... fine. It was extremely difficult to invest in this match because everyone and their mother knew Roman was coming, and god bless him, but nobody ever believed for a second that Solo was going to beat Cody and even everything Solo did was immediately overshadowed by Jacob Fatu doing it much better. (praying he isn't hurt too bad). But yea, this was all about Roman's return and it did not disappoint. He left no ambiguity over his intentions and immediately laid out Solo, while subtly acknowledging that he's not finished with Cody. With both of them on Smackdown, that show will get a much needed boost in quality. But yea, great show if you're into WWE's brand of storytelling, but if you're more into the matches, then I can see why this could be a disappointing event for some."

Yes, they'll be more profitable than ever with all the advertisements, but at what cost? Eventually, fans will stop watching the stream and instead just watch highlights on Twitter. All in all, SummerSlam 2024 was a one-match card, and that match was fine. The event as a whole is nothing more than a four out of ten. No reason to ever rewatch the event."

Drew still possesses punks bracelet, bron breakker finally showed his domination, wwe finally listens to tweets and gets la knight the title and logan paul is now presumably a one off guy. Bayleys reign comes to an end, and nia jax wins the title after being the qotr, people are still salty for her win, while some think its well deserved. The overbooked main event, roman returns, cody wins it for pharaoh, the ppv ends on a good note. This is my 3rd or 4th ppv watched live on tv, and it was pretty good, one thing is for sure, that this summerslam will make great matches at mania 41, and the bash in berlin seems like a mini backlash for summerslam, so cant wait to see that."

Liv and Rhea had a banger opener with lots of great spots, and Diminik turning on rhea was great too, banger opener. Bron and Sami although short was effective and did what it needed to do. Bron learned from his mistakes the first time and showed his domianance. LA Knight and Logan delivered a straight up banger. Both cooked in thr ring with LA Knight getting his moment and finally winning the US Title. Bayley and Nia didn't really pick up until the end but when it picked up it got good., Bayleys powerbomb was insane and I loved the finish with Tiffany accidently or not, distracting Bayley allowing Nia to pick up the win. Im glad Tiffany didn't cash in yet as I feel that she needs to hold the briefcase for a bit longer. Punk vs Drew with Seth as the ref was perfect storytelling. Althoughy I wish it was a bit more extreme, still a very solid match. Like the story they told where Punk ultimantley beat himself in the end. In terms of in ring quality Priest vs Gunther was hands down the match of the night. A hard hitting match with both preforming well. Loved Finns turn on Priest as I thought it was done very well. Interseting to see how long Gunther holds the title for, and intrested to see where this leads the entire Judgement Day too. As far as the actual match Cody vs Solo was just ok but we all know that did not matter as Roman's return was simply amazing. Love that they're using his mania 40 theme as well. Exicted to see where it leads Cody too, and the entire Bloodline. Overall, I think Summerslam was the second best PLE of the year so far only behind Mania 40. Dom interfered for Liv, Stratton interfered for Nia, people whose names I don't know interfered for Logan Paul, Finn interfered for Gunther (Seriously? Gunther can't beat Priest clean? ), Drew vs. Punk was built entirely around Seth being a distraction, and in typical Bloodline fashion EVERYONE interfered in that match. Punk and Priest even had the exact same finishes in their matches where they were both too stupid to pay attention to their opponent and lost for it due to a 3rd party. And who the hell booked LA Knight to no-sell brass knuckles? The only reason it's as high as a 6 despite all that is because the matches themselves weren't bad outside of Bayley and Nia, but Jesus Christ can we get a clean finish on the 2nd biggest show of the year?"

Even the so called worst matches on the card by default still find themselves to be entertaining in their own rights. Not to mention the surplus of storyline developments and new character turns.

Far from great, but it never bored me and I had a good time watching it and it left me excited for what comes next, so it delivered."

[3.0] "Do not recommend this show. It suffers from the typical poor pacing of a WWE show, along with a card of matches that top out at just fine. This was more about the storyline turns like Dominik turning on Rhea Ripley, Finn Balor turning on Damian Priest, and the return of Roman Reigns. That's all well and good, and it could make the show for you if you're invested enough. Outside of those few minutes though, there was a lot of wrestling that was acceptable but lacking any juice. The main event was a slog with a crowd just waiting for run-ins, making it the worst match on the show. I had high hopes for Punk/McIntyre, but the match did an incredible disservice to the build. The best match was either Paul/Knight or Gunther/Priest, I wouldn't argue hard If you went either way. But there was nothing on this show that I would tell you to go out of your way to see. It wasn't a horrible show, but I can't say it was a decent one either. 3/10"

[8.0] "[Original comment written August 3, 2024] Overall, I was highly entertained -- as a very new fan of professional wrestling, I am still relatively fresh and impressionable. So while there have probably been many better PPVs, this was my favorite that I have seen. The obliteration of the Judgment Day, courtesy of Dominik Mysterio and Finn Balor, was very well-executed. I must give particular props to Balor -- his glare cuts concrete. The U.S. Championship match was probably the best of the night -- entertaining from bell to bell (and even before the bell), and LA finally gets his flowers. Gunther winning the World Heavyweight Championship was a particular highlight as well, which I am happy to also say about the Intercontinental Championship match between Bron Breakker and Sami Zayn, though I wish that it was slightly longer. I do not envy the roster of RAW with Gunther and Bron running the show, but I do wish both the best of luck in their championship reigns. However, this show was not perfect. I personally found the WWE Women's Championship match to be a bit of a low moment. I have been told that Nia Jax has improved a lot over her time in WWE -- I shudder to think of what she was doing before. Perhaps the biggest disappointment, however, was Solo Sikoa in the main event. People have pointed out a specific lack of aura with him, and when Jacob Fatu made me more excited than Sikoa did over that entire half-an-hour match, that reads very poorly on Sikoa. The return of Kevin Owens and Randy Orton was very nice to see, but it paled in comparison to Roman Reigns. I have never had the pleasure of watching Roman wrestle live on TV (recall that I am very new to this world of wrestling), but he gave me chills before he even stepped out and I cannot wait to see the looming all-out Bloodline War play out. Overall, very well done by the WWE team, I look forward to watching what happens next!"

All of the matches were at least solid but it felt like it was more setting up for something bigger with how the Judgement Day story unfolded. [6.0] "This certainly was a show in which storytelling took precedence, and there's nothing wrong with that as a concept, but a lot of the viewer's enjoyment in that case will likely hinge on how well-told those stories are and how much they resonate. As far as the match quality is concerned, Gunther vs Priest was the best of the night, followed fairly closely by Knight vs Paul. The rest of the matches were fine enough. There was no shortage of outside shenanigans throughout the night, with the most interesting to me being the breakup of the Judgment Day stable via Dominick's turn on Rhea during the opening match (and fair play to Dom, who managed to effectively pull off turning heel despite already being a heel), and then Balor betraying Priest in the Gunther match. Knight vs Paul had the catharsis of Knight finally pulling off a big title win, and I won't be too broken up if it sets Paul outside of the title pictures at least for awhile. Punk vs McIntyre fell somewhat flat to me, despite being arguably the best-built match of the night - it never came close to the level of intensity the build, and even Punk's preshow promo, promised, the bracelet angle was kind of lame, and Rollins as guest ref was an unneeded distraction. Zayn vs Breaker was OK but maybe a notch below their match at Money in the Bank, and begs the question of why they didn't just do the title change there, or just not have their first match until SummerSlam, rather than run it twice. The Women's Title matches were both fine, and probably among the better ones I've seen out of Morgan and Jax respectively. The main event was primarily a vehicle to set up Roman's return, but definitely suffered from general Bloodline fatigue, and Sikoa just isn't a viable main event star, at least at this point. A show that overall falls a bit above the average mark in my book, and does at least offer some interesting developments moving forward."

[6.0] "I'm not sure if the ratings are legit or not, but honestly, I straight up don't give a fck. The show isn't anything extraordinary, nor does it stink that awfully. It's the kind of show youd forget about by the weekend, but it's still somewhat enjoyable to watch. That said, relying on interferences in 6 out of 7 matches is incredibly dull. The opener, while a fine bout, never kicked into the next gear due to the overreliance on Dominik's involvement with the ladies. It could have been better, but it also could have been far worse, so Dom is excused. As for Bron vs. Zayn, making it a quasi-squash match after MITB wasn't the best idea. It could have been a better sprint, showcasing Zayn's urgency to end the match and portraying him as the master strategist they claim him to be. However, he was pretty much dominated. While this did set up Bron for a strong start, I believe there were more stellar ways to achieve that. The LA Knight vs. Logan Paul match was actually quite fun. I agree that every Logan match is the same, but I still enjoy them depending on how good his dance partner is. Now that we're done with him for a while, I hope LA gets a decent run. Nia Jax vs. Bayley was pretty much awful booking-wise. Bayleys reign needed to be recognizable, but its far from that. On the other hand, Nia winning is questionable unless shes going to be cashed in on quickly by Stratton. Honestly, Id rather have seen Stratton screw Jax here to win the belt. I dont think Nia makes an interesting champion. Drew vs. Punk, if wrestled in another promotion, probably would have been a bloodbath. I dont quite get why they didnt have a stipulation other than a special guest referee. Rollins was alright, but he served as a lame excuse for Punk's loss. It was a tame match that didnt portray Drew as a killer beast. Punk was sloppy at times, but at least he managed to wrestle through the match without getting hurt. This match needed to OVERDELIVER. It took months to build. It took three screwjobs from Punk to Drew. It took everything, and it turned into a cartoonish grudge match over a bracelet (which was a fine aspect, but just not enough). This was also Punks first one-on-one match in WWE since his return (excluding house shows). If people point to the MJF/Punk dog collar match over this, believe me, it wont be without reason. Gunther vs. Priest was a great match and clearly the MOTN, with Priest doing a solid job in his final title defense. Balors involvement was limited and done pretty neatly, so its acceptable as is. The only issue with the match, if I had to argue, is how Priest rolled Gunther to the near ropes so Balor could get involved. Its hard to suspend disbelief, but overall, its alright. The main event was a setup for Romans arrival and not much more than that. Redoing a Bloodline Rules match after WM was bold, but it didnt pay off. It started slowly, Roman & KO got involved yet again, and then Roman's music hit. Maybe it needed The Rock, and a staredown between Roman/Rock and Cody/Rock. If they wanted to save that for later, I get it. But for the main event of a big 4, it barely delivers. Still, props to Cody for making Solo look good for a bit."

Dom was great as a heel magnet i didn't know it was possible for me to boo him more, so excited to see how this unfolds on Raw. The following match was short but in a good way i just wish Bron was more brutal it just felt a bit lacklustre, still a fun match but could have been better if he was throwing Sami around more. The Logan Paul vs LA Knight match is Pauls weakest match, im just sick of interference this isnt the attitude era please stop. It was enjoyable but the second weakest match of the night for me with it only being a five out of 10. I skipped the womens title match and heavyweight title match, i dont care at all about them. I love gunther but I just find Priest boring, im just glad he's gone. The main event was a massive let down, spent most of it on my phone it was boring, solo just isnt main event worth. The match will only be remembered due to Romans return. Good show let down by a bad main event. 7/10"

[10.0] "Personally I felt this was one of the best shows of the HHH led era of WWE. Monumental storytelling, great in ring action, and a great backdrop being in a stadium. Rhea vs Liv was story at its finest, as well as a good wrestling match. I wasn't a huge fan of Liv prior to this story but she's won me over with her performances. Rhea looked great here considering it was her first match back since Mania, and the Dom extra heel turn was really well done. Bron vs Sami I enjoyed, although I would have liked it to go ten minutes more than I did. The right man won, and clearly Bron is going to be a big player for a number of years. LA Knight vs Logan Paul was probably the biggest shock of the night in terms of in ring action. These two damn near stole the show for my money. Paul is incredible for the amount of matches he's had, and Knight has stepped up his in ring game in the last 12 months. Again, the right man won as its time for Knight to have a title run. Nia vs Bayley was superb. Nia has shocked me since returning with how much she's improved. Its a shame to see Bayley lose, but I feel Nia holding the belt is the best way to go at present. Drew vs Punk with Seth as the ref I absolutely loved. This is everything I want to see from a big time match. The layers of story to this one were top rate, and it sets future matches up between all three participants. Again, Drew needed the win here much more than Punk. Cody vs Solo again was a good main event. I wouldn't go as far as to say great, as the one drawback of a Bloodline Rules match is that everybody is waiting for the interference to start. Roman's return was monumental and is one of the loudest reactions I've ever heard. All in all, a great show that you should go out of your way too watch."

Second, there were so many major plot choices made in literally every match: Dom betrayal, Logan Paul brass knuckle fail, Tiffy failed cash in, Punk screwing Punk, Finn betrayal, Roman return. Literally Trips fired on all cylinders with storytelling here. A comparable show to either night of Wrestlemania, really saying something here. The only reason its a 9/10 instead of a 10/10 is because of some times with painfully average wrestling. Still amazing though."

How long has it been since we've had so many changes in a single WWE PLE? LA Knight is deserved, Gunther is deserved and logical in view of Bash In Berlin coming up, only the main event is a blot on the copybook with Solo Sikoa but that was to orchestrate the return of Reigns who for the first time really gets the crowd going without forcing it. Bron Breakker is a future monster, he has talent, a diamond to polish. My only disappointment is that Nia Jax is the champion, even though she's a total loser and has the backing of the Rock family."

Really nice to see how much Nia has improved over the years, and she and Bayley had a surprisingly good match, despite the lack of heat on the feud itself. I know the Punk/Drew match has divided people, but as a beat in the ongoing story, I really enjoyed it and think it opens up great opportunities for round 2 in the future, as well as other matches between Punk/Seth and even Seth/Drew if they wanted to work in that direction. The only thing I didn't really vibe with with was the Bron/Sami match. I've read that it had it's time cut, but my real issue was that, while I understand and appreciate what they were going for, I feel like the same story and match could have been accomplished at Money in the Bank. I didn't feel like it was necessary to run it twice. Overall, a really enjoyable show. I want to particularly highlight Gunther/Priest match, definitely the highlight for me. [8.0] "Summerslam 2024 was make or break for WWE in my eyes, the feuds going into it ranged from fine to amazing but it was really the booking decisions that would decide if I could actually be bothered to watch until Royal Rumble season, it should come as no surprise from my previous ratings that I think WWE has been on a cold streak with PLEs and storyline payoffs, booking decisions as well as not featuring talent as well as they could do. Which has led to me genuinely not being excited to watch WWE for the first time since 2019. So with Summerslam in the books its time to see if WWE are on the path to redemption or if theyve officially become #2 in my eyes. We kick things off with Rhea vs Liv, this feud (while gaining lots of heat with the fans) is not something WWE should be doing in 2024, theyre very talented wrestlers who have history and are fighting for a title that Liv only won because she injured Rhea, this shouldnt be about their boytoy! This was a pretty good match, great selling from Rhea, and Liv played the cowardice heel very well, finish confused me at first but seeing what happened after the match with Dom siding with Liv it made sense, while Id like to see these 2 feud without Dom involved, Im all for another match (even with Dom involved). Dom flipping off the crowd as he walked out was great. (3/5).We move on to Bron Breakker against Sami Zayn now, its nice to hear Sami be referred to as a future hall of famer, Id like for him to win a world title before he retires though, he fully deserves it. This match was fast paced and also fast. Not even 6 minutes for these guys, It was a fun match for the time given and puts over Breakker very well as someone who did their research this time, he will have a great career in WWE and hes grown at lot since we first saw him in NXT 2.0. This was the right booking decision though 100% which is odd considering how bad Triple H has booked this title since Sami won the belt. (3/5). We move on to Logan Paul aginst LA Knight. Now before this week I would have wanted LA Knight to win the title badly, Logan Paul is an awful human being and LA Knight deserves to finally win big, but considering the recent events surrounding Paul on twitter I would have stopped watching the show had he retained. I do not care that he has a nice Buckshot lariat, I do not care that he can do a flippy move or 2, I do not care that he came out with Machine Gun Kelly (whom I also do not like). He is a garbage human and should not be being broadcast in the light of a champion. I do not want to see him in title matches any longer, in fact I would not care if we never saw him in WWE again, in fact that is what I am wishing for. Match was fine, props to LA Knight for dropping Logan with a brainbuster, that might knock some sense into him. But thank the gods LA Knight is the new US champion. (3/5) Nia Jax and Bayley were up now, they have got history dating back to my first attended WWE PLE (that being NXT Takeover London) and they put on a good match here! It was a really good David vs Goliath type of match, Nia Jax has recovered from that spell from 2019-2020 where she was admittedly quite bad exquisitely, Her partnership with Tiffany Stratton is great and if it turns into a face run for Tiffany then I am all for it. Great finishing sequence in this one too. Disappointed for Bayley never really being given much to do as champion by Triple H but hopefully she gets some momentum from this feud. (3.5/5). The Blood Feud is up next with CM Punk against Drew McIntyre, unfortunately with Seth Rollins as guest referee. This was a fine match, in ring wise it was pretty good considering it wasnt No DQ or anything, the issue I have with this match is Seth Rollins getting involved in all of this. To me it really did affect this match, I know theres an underlying story here but did we really need it? If this was a certain other company, CM Punk and Drew would have had a huge blowoff match lasting around 25 minutes with little to no interference , or if there was then it would not have an outcome on the ending of the match. Here were trying to build this Punk vs Rollins match too early, focus on the goldust that you have in front of you to create a spectacle, I hope this feud continues to Bad Blood where we get Punk vs Drew with no Rollins whatsoever (3.5/5). Gunther vs Priest was next, Im running out of words here but this was a great match, stiff as anything and a great story with Finn and Damien, which I expected to implode before this point but props to WWE, they got it right this time with their LONG term booking. Looking forward to Priest vs Balor while also excited to see who Gunther faces in Berlin (4.5/5). Finally its main event time, Cody vs Solo, I personally have been enjoying Solo as the new Tribal Chief, he looks a bit stupid but he carries himself well, I am a bit sick of the bloodline nepotism there seems to be on Smackdown, dethroning DIY after 29 days is crazy to me. But not having it be on the Summerslam card is even crazier. This match was alright, in ring it couldnt hold a candle to Reigns vs Cody which to me is genuinely one of the best matches of all time, Solo doesnt have that ring prescience just yet, I liked this match more than most. They told a story of Solo overcoming Cody in a way Reigns could not, Tanga Loa continued his trend of managing a botch on every single PLE that he has appeared on which is impressive. Praying that Jacob Fatu isnt injured badly. The return of Roman Reigns was huge and sets up some big matches down the road. (3.5/5). Overall thoughts, this was a step in the right direction 100, good booking decisions across the card and some fun matches and fun feuds set up. I am ready to stay on board the WWE train until January at the least, hopefully some of the B shows start picking up as well, Summerslam gets a solid 8 from me."

What it did accomplish; however, was a hard reset of both SmackDown and RAW, particularly RAW. New champions all over the place were absolutely necessary, with the crowning of Breakker and Gunther immediately making RAW much more interesting. The Bloodline story, while it has absolutely overstayed its welcome by this point, should also get going again with Roman back and the seemingly inevitable reintegration of Zayn and the Usos back into the story."

Rhea Vs Liv was a good match and the ending with Dominik betraying Rhea was great (**** star match) then we have the disappointing quick IC match that started really well but sadly ended quickly (***1/4) then the second MOTN with LA Knight finally dethroning Logan and it was a great wrestling match with unique spots and great story between the two and I consider it a classic US Championship Match. (****1/2), Bayley and Nia Jax was not that bad and actually it was a decent match with a very interesting ending and upcoming storyline between Tiffy and Nia (***1/2). Then a classic and generational match for the ages between Punk and Mcintyre with Seth making it even more interesting. the storytelling in the ring was very top notch making it a summerslam classic (****1/2). then we head to the MOTN and really a great wrestling match between Gunther and Priest and I think the placing of this match on the card made it very underrated, and the Finn betrayal was very great (****3/4). Roman's return was perfunctory--so completely expected from everyone down to the facial expressions--and not enough to make up for the lack of great wrestling capped by a main event that was mediocre at best. Dom & Finn's respective turns add a bit of texture but Dom's turn early in the night made Finn's feel redundant. It also undercut Walter's championship win as something he couldn't have accomplished on his own. Would love to see people like Nia Jax and Solo Sikoa off these high profile shows until they prove that they can bring something to the table independently of how strongly they are booked."

Gunther vs Priest was probably match of the night but nothing spectacular. Nia Jax defeating Bailey was the biggest surprise, even though I never expected Tiffany to successfully cash in her briefcase because WWE was always going to want to cash in on the merch sales from her briefcase first. Was happy to see the US title taken from transphobe Logan Paul, which was only put on him because of his social media status (no Undertaker, he didn't elevate it at all). Punk looked in good shape but feel him and Drew can do much better in their future matches. Cody vs Solo didn't need to be 30 minutes given that most were just waiting for Roman to return. I was not 100% sure on the Balor turn so I got a little heated up in that moment but other than that: Doms turn was so called (and it was done pretty well), every major title change was also super called and the surprise of the night, Romans return, wasnt much of a surprise given how many times Solo mentioned him in his promos. On the wrestling side of things no massive letdowns, pretty average in ring quality, with the exception of the wonderful storytelling in the Drew - Punk match and such hard hitting blows in my MOTN Priest vs Gunther."

They need to start doing (non tag team) title changes in PLEs that aren't WM or SS, cause that way they deem most of the inbetweens as filler. Liv/Rhea was fine and I liked the spot where Rhea put her shoulder back in place. The turn was executed well and I'm glad for the way it happened, cause it makes some previous segments between Liv & Dom less uncomfortable. Sami/Bron was decent for what it was, but if that's how Bron's title win was gonna be, it could have happened at MITB. Logan/LA Knight was pretty good, but there is no need for brass knuckles in every Logan Paul match. I'm glad LA Knight got the win, but this match could have easily happened at WM, there was no reason to postpone it for the summer. Nia/Bayley was okay, nothing to add here. Glad Nia won, thought it was about time. Drew/CM Punk was a decently entertaining match, but was unfortunately watered down by Seth's involvement. Also, I can't for my life believe that something so obviously insignificant as that bracelet was such a big part of the match's story. Fortunately, the right person won, but I would prefer it if Drew would move on now to a new feud, cause with the way the match was, keeping him in feels like a waste of a great character. Gunther/Priest was good. I would prefer it if it had been a purely wrestling match, but at least it protected Priest. Cody/Solo was alright. "Bloodline Rules" matches don't seem to be nowhere near as chaotic or exciting as they could be for some reason, but they are just a bunch of interferences towards the end of the match. Roman's return was also underwhelming to me. They could have done much more with it, but what was delivered was just the bare minimum."

Dom turning on Rhea was well done, it was relatively obvious but executed in a way that made you wonder for a while if maybe they were holding off on it. Drew vs Punk had a strange dynamic, at times Seth's presence seemed to overshadow the match itself, but it mostly worked, and the story with the bracelet was well delivered. For me Gunther vs Priest was the match of the night because it delivered great in-ring action and great storyline development, with Finn's betrayal elevating Priest even further as a great babyface. The main event was alright, Roman's return was very much needed here - what a moment!"

This event might be a victim of its own success though, as I don't think Punk Vs McIntyre as a grudge match fully delivered on what was promised. It was not bad by any stretch of the imagination, but maybe a slight letdown. Still, Rhea and Liv Morgan did very well, as did Gunther and Priest. Still a great watch overall."

The opener was very good and the turn everybody was waiting for landed in a major way. Bron vs Sami was a decisive win for Breakker for what should be a title reign that elevates him even further up the card. Logan Paul proved again that despite people's attempt to use controversy to discredit him, he's one of the best overall performers in the entire business and someone that should continue to be one of the franchise players for WWE for years to come. Great moment for LA Knight who has busted his ass to get to this point, and he contributed quite a lot to a great match as well. Nia vs Bayley was the right decision, Bayley's reign had lost most of its luster. Punk vs Drew was a great storytelling match that apparently 40 year old single white men can't relate to. Gunther and Priest was hard hitting and yet another example of why Priest was elevated to the level he's at now. Main event was all about the return of the biggest star of the 21st century, and the people reacted accordingly. Great show top to bottom."

The main event was typical Bloodline nonsense. The main saving grace was Gunther vs Priest."

A strong crowd, and what is assuredly the best LA Knight match of all time. Where I think the show falters is in the match quality at the top. The first 3 matches are solid! The Jax/Bayley match is probably the thing people will think is the most skippable. I think where the show falls off and earns its middling rating though is the 3 top of the card matches. Gunther/Priest is completely fine, but doesn't ever truly hit a second gear. Punk/McIntyre completely falls flat on its face, and is worked more like an extended RAW match with an embarrassing angle thrown in, and not the culmination of 6 months of build. I feel like the screaming of "STORYTELLING" from some fans in that match is truly, earnestly embarrassing. I really don't think it will age well. The Main Event is just one of those matches I can't imagine anyone wanting to watch in full again. A match where you fast forward to the entrances that happen mid way, and then further fast forward to watch Roman Reigns return. The only real story in the match being "When will the BS start? ". Combine all of that with the low price of admission, I'd say 5 is fair. If this was a traditional PPV where you had to spend the old school 60 bucks though? Or if I spent hundreds of dollars to be in that crowd? That would have made it a lot rougher."

I was excited for Rhea vs Liv but they made it al about Rhea's shoulder. The first time could have been forgiven but the second time was just overly corny for me. The post match did what it needed to but there was no real drama, it felt like two actors going through the motions, Dom and Liv don't have a ton of chemistry but I'm want to see where they go with it. I did like that Rhea wasn't sad or crying but looked pissed off. Bron and Sami was the match we were hoping for at MITB. A glorified squash, Bron looked like a killer. I look forward to how he's booked going forward. LA Knight vs Paul was good for what it was. I love that the crowd rightfully hated Logan. They hit all their spots and the right man went over. Bayley vs Nia was no very memorable other than the title change, there was a particularly weak looking aNialator. The teased cash-in attempt added a little but no enough to make this good for me. Drew vs Punk was a little strange. This is not the same Punk that faced Samoa Joe just a year ago. He looked gassed, he looked old but these two had a solid, hard-hitting match with a lot of good drama. The ending was kind of silly. Really, you're gonna take your eye off the ball for a damn bracelet? This did not feel like the first match of a blood feud. I get why they did it and where they're going but it wasn't for me. Drew going over was the right decision storywise. Gunther/Priest was easily the MOTN. Two athletic big men just beating the hell out of eachother and telling a great story in the process. I thought they were gonna save Gunther's win for Bash in Berlin but this was probably the right move and helps further cement Damian as more of an underdog face. The main event was a clusterfuck of epic proportions. It felt like a carbon copy of the Mania match but with less cool surprises. I did pop for Arn pre=match though. This was all about establishing Roman as a top face against the evil Bloodline and Solo who tried to usurp his title. Roman felt like a huge deal and it'll be interesting to see how he and Cody coexist on the same show."

[10.0] "This PLE having a cagematch score under 7 is actually insane. This PLE delivered top to bottom. The opening match was great, and had a ton of great moments. Rhea putting her shoulder back in, Rhea kicking out of Oblivion, Dom ultimately turning on Rhea. It was both good in-ring, and storywise. This also set in motion the implosion of Judgement Day, as later in the night in a fantastic match, Finn Balor turned on Damian Priest and cost him the World Heavyweight Championship. This was done so well, Priest came out of it looking like a massive babyface, and even though he lost the belt, he has a clear storyline heading forward so he's not going to get lost in the shuffle, as some do after they lose their belt. I also enjoyed the midcard title matches, the IC match was a little weaker, purely because of the shortness of the match. I think these guys could put on a great show but it was really cut short. The US title match was great, it also had some fun moments, and produced the right winner. The Women's title match was probably the low point of the night, but it also wasn't even that bad. It accomplished what it had to, Nia deserves the belt, and I hope Bayley can stay relevant with either some rematches against Nia, or maybe going for tag team gold with Naomi. Punk/Drew was the highlight match of the night for me. It had such a great story going in, and these guys delievered. Seth was the perfect addition as the guest referee. Then of course there was the main event, some may criticize that it was too similar to the Mania match, but I thought it made more sense in this match, and let's be honest it's all about the Roman return anyways. That's going to go down as one of the greatest returns ever, and it makes this whole PLE an all timer."

Almost every match delivered on their promise to some extent or other, and far and away seems like the biggest reset for the promotion in some time, even more than Wrestlemania XL. LA Knight FINALLY wins his first title on the main roster by beating that transphobic bigot Logan Paul and ends what has to be one of the worst US title reigns in history. Bayley vs Nia was a decent match. McIntyre vs Punk was my most anticipated match and it was a pretty great storytelling match. The business with the bracelet added a lot of personal intensity. Seth did a great job in his role as well. I just kinda wish this match was more violent. I truly expected lots of literal blood to be spilled. I also truly expected AJ Lee to make her return. Maybe theyre saving all of that till Badd Blood. Btw, Larry NEEDS to make an appearance at some point. Speaking of blood, Gunther really hurt himself during his match with Priest huh? These two had such a banger of a match. And Im really happy to see Gunther fully cement himself in the main event scene. The main event was fine. Everyones talking about what happened at the end. Morgan/Ripley was not a very good opener, and the Dominik Mysterio turn was very confusing. Zayn/Breakker was a little bit disappointing, considering the great match they had at Money in the Bank. Breakker wining the Intercontinental Championship was the right decision, and I can't wait to see what he does as champion. Paul/Knight was okay enough, and really picked up around the mid-way point for me. I'm glad that Triple H didn't try to drag this one out, LA Knight winning the United States Championship was the right decision. So far, this show felt so soulless, it didn't feel lively, I feel like the crowd wasn't really all there. After coming off a lot of international shows over the summer, going back to States was really affecting the quality of this one. Bayley/Jax was the first match I enjoyed on this show, they had a great dynamic going and an impressive powerbomb spot. I'm not sold on the idea on Nia Jax as Women's Champion, but I'll give it some time. She's improved a lot, sure, but I'm not sure I want to see her as champion. McIntyre/Punk was a good match; Punk looked very good on his return, and I enjoyed Rollins' involvement as special guest referee, but I also expected a lot more from them. Gunther/Priest was the best match of the night, the in-ring action was top quality as is always the case with Gunther, and the Bálor's heel turn was well done. Absolutely cannot wait for Gunther's run. And the main event, this only main evented because of the Roman Reigns return. Solo Sikoa is absolutely not believable as a main eventer in my opinion, and Cody Rhodes tried to get him to a good match, but it never really clicked for me. It felt like a poor man's version of Roman/Cody from 'Mania this year. Reigns' return was really good though. This show did not have a good start or main event in my opinion, there was some good in the middle but I often felt disappointed or wanting more from it and the only match that did not fall into this category was Gunther/Priest. I'll give it a 5/10."

This felt like a culmination of the past four months of WWE storytelling. The opening bout between Rhea Ripley and Liv Morgan was solid stuff with Rhea's shoulder being played up. Dominik managed to turn into a even bigger heel by assisting Morgan with retaining the World Women's Championship and locking lips with his new flame right in front of Mami. The Intercontinental Championship match between Bron Breakker and Sami Zayn was good but a tad too short for my liking. LA Knight dethroning Logan Paul for the United States Title was a great watch, and that's all I will say about that. While I felt Bayley's reign as Women's Champion was kinda lukewarm, she lost it in a good match with Nia Jax. Nia Jax has been killing it since her return last year and it's going to be interesting seeing the dynamic between her and Tiffany Stratton. The Special Guest Referee match between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre was quite enjoyable with the tension between both men and Seth Rollins eventually coming to a head as CM Punk let his anger get the better of him. The World Heavyweight Championship match between Gunther and Damian Priest was my Match of the Night as both men laid into each other. Finn Balor screwing Priest was fantastic stuff, and Gunther is a World Champion in WWE. The main event Bloodline Rules match between Cody Rhodes and Solo Sikoa was good. It started out as your formulaic match but escalated quickly with run-ins from the GOD, Kevin Owens and Randy Orton, Jacob Fatu, and the returning Roman Reigns."

From a match point of view it wasn't really compelling. Just the World Heavyweight Title Championship match had a good wrestling structure besides its good storytelling in the ring (-> Finn's betrayal). Sure Gunther as champion will be boring as hell, but some people see something in his charisma-void corpse of a body. Personally for me the highlight has definetely to be the Special Guest Referee match between CM Punk and Drew MacIntyre and the clown that is Seth. This was entertainment heaven and reminded of all those great momet we had back in the good ol' WWF Attitude days. What a blessing this was. The story that was told by all three men inside the ring and all those actions and consequences were just delightful to witness. Drew winning in the end, was the best decision WWE made this year and i CANNOT WAIT to see this rivalry continue in three-way feud with Rollins included. The US Title Match is third to be mentioned here. It was a spectacal of big moves without ever feeling like a wrestling match and I am just glad that LA Knight finally got a moment in his WWE career by capturing the US Title. Biggest dissappointment was the Main event. Roman Reigns return left me cold and it was overbooked to hell. This match had such a good build-up, and all they could do was this match. More about my opnion in the seperate match guide for this match. What a missed opportunity. Every other match was just average quality and no worth mentioning. Weakest match was the second Women's Title match. There were serveral bad decisions made, but also 2 very good bookings like the Punk/Drew match and everything involving the storyline about the Judgemend Day. Because as an objective person you have to put everything into account, the PLE as a whole was just underaverage. 5.5 points out of 10."

Even Bayley can't make Nia Jax look any better than she actually is later in the evening. Nevertheless, the show also has some clear bright spots, as Gunther's title win is straightforwardly solid and the match between Punk and McIntyre is also decent, although a few grains are left out. The end of the show is also spiced up with the foreseeable comeback of Roman Reigns, and the accompanying match is also pretty okay. My personal highlight remains the clash between Logan Paul and LA Knight, because it's atmospherically reminiscent of the Attitude Era. Starting the event with a very hot feud (Rhea/Liv) and having a spicy turn angle led to a very good tone being set for the rest of the night, both women opened well and got the crowd going. The only real dull-point to me were the first maybe 5ish minutes of Bayley/Jax and the first 8-10mins of Cody/Solo. Everything else was executed near flawlessly with no memorable botches. I think almost every single angle & storyline in this event was progressed to the next chapter, and the show was a perfect way to force people to tune in weekly to Raw & Smackdown. Gunther & Priest stole the show with the match of the night and Roman Reigns delivered the overall moment of the entire event, ending the PPV is a fantastic fashion with an electric crowd. Great booking, pacing, crowd and matches."

LA Knight worked his ass off and had a tremendous showing with Paul, who I am happy to be rid of for the time being. Ive always found Knight hir or miss in ring wise, thankfully on this big of a stage he went crazy and got a big win. Gunther is another one who Ive been wanting to see as a big time champion for a while in this company and he finally got his due in a really great match with Priest. I did not care too much for yet another bit of interference, but I didnt mind, my boy finally did it. Everything else on this show was meh to so bad it gave me douche chills . Seven matches, six of them had some sort of interference. The quality of those matches were poor and we know this since the lasting impression from these matches is the interference. Cody/Solo was a nothing burger until Roman came out to a thunderstorm pop, which was a very cool moment. Everything before that was amazingly dull, mostly because Solo is not a main eventer who knows that to do in between moves and no one cared for anything and were pretty quiet, just waiting for entrances during the interference spots and for Romans return. And hooooo boy, that Punk/Drew match was EMBARRASSING. I hoped for and was expecting a war, what I got was grown men fighting over a middle schoolers friendship bracelet in an absolute shit match while a character from a coloring book was the ref. I got second and third hand embarrassment having this on in the background in front of my gf. This is Summer Slam! This isnt a show you use to set up a less important PPV, this is their second biggest show of the year! you END things here. Amazingly disappointing."

[7.0] "[***1/2]. This edition of SummerSlam was solid overall. On the positive side, all the matches delivered to some degree, showcasing some impressive in-ring action and story evolution. Notable highlights included Drew vs. Punk, Gunther vs. Damien, and Roman Reigns' return, which stood out as some of the best things WWE has offered so far this year. The event effectively continued each storyline, adding a lot of intrigue to every ongoing narrative. On the downside, the event had an Attitude Era feel, with overbooked finishes and a heavier focus on storylines and characters rather than the in-ring action. This isn't always a negative, but it can be when theres an imbalance, which was noticeable at times during this event. Additionally, Bron vs. Sami was a bit of a disappointment, as it didn't feel like the crowning moment that Bron's first title win on the main roster should have been, due to the unusual booking. Overall, it's worth a watch and definitely continues WWE's momentum during this exciting period for them, despite a few reservations I have."

[8.0] "[8] Fairly enjoyable show. So many title changes, so many dramatic moments and so many surprises. I mean I enjoyed this fully except for the main event. I loved Dom's turn on Rhea. Rhea selling her shoulder dislocation made that match very interesting. That feud is going loooong. Bron vs Sami was way too short. It undermined Sami's victory over Gunther at Wrestlemania. I have no problem Sami dropping the title but this should have been longer... LA vs Logan was amazing. Knight bringing out some new moves from his arsenal and Logan doing his thing made this match great... Nia vs Bayley was good. Glad that boring Bayley reign ended. This should be so much better. Tiffy not cashing in has certainly heated the things up a bit more than usual... Drew vs Punk was everything I hoped for. I was so afraid that they were gonna mess up the booking but it was booked to perfection. Loved the match so much. All three guys inside the ring told a great story without any bladejob and that has to be commended. This feud has still way more than enough in the tank to go for another a couple of matches. Hopefully Bad Blood is even more violent. This was my favorite match of the night... Gunther vs Priest was another enjoyable natch. Probably Priest's best match I have ever seen. He didn't botch anything like has done previously. We got his breakup with Finn. Gunther with world title looks so right... Main event was somewhat underwhelming. Cody and Solo were doing great before Bloodline interferences. Match took turn for the worse after that. Roman's return was greeted by a big pop from crowd.... All in all this was a very fun filled show with some amazing moments."

Whilst there is no match on this card I would recommend for you to go out of your way to watch, bar Priest vs Gunther, it was a huge and satisfying payoff to months of long term stories, all colliding at once. The Judgement day implodes, Bron has arrived, Gunther is world champion, LA Knight wins a long overdue title, and Roman is finally back. This show also featured prolly one of the most emotionally driven matches I have seen in a long time, which ultimately led to it being quite divisive, that was my personal highlight of the night, that being Drew vs Punk, a great first chapter in what I suspect will be a legendary trilogy"

It was extremely consistent in every aspect, and I think this all culminates in a near-perfect event that is on par with either night of Wrestlemania XL."

With the implosion of the Judgment Day to some really banger upper card matches all the way to the well-deserved and emotional return of Roman Reigns. But the in-ring work was decent at best since matches like the Intercontinental Title match and the Womens Title match between Bayley and Nia Jax were matches that definitely needed more time. The matches on the upper card truly delivered though in my opinion. The Punk and Drew match had some really great ironic storytelling with Punk becoming a hypocrite like Drew for letting his emotions get the better of him. Seths involvment definitely was a little excessive but made sense from a storytelling perspective. The Gunther/Damian match was possibly the match of the night in my opinion. Such a physically brutal match that also had Gunther getting torn up with his chest bleeding. Damian also looked good in defeat which also sets up his future program with Finn. The main event match-wise wasnt all that good and was really more of a spectacle than anything but it delivered with Romans return even though I think the Bloodline Rules setup was not like Wrestlemania and it truly feels more desperate than anything if theres no violence within the match but oh well. Cant wait to see where the stories go from here though."

From the Judgement Day implosion, to much deserved title wins and the thunderous return of Roman Reigns, it tied everything together and made it a surefire event. I know people are gonna complain and say this show was predictable but predictable doesn't equal bad. Match of the night for me was Priest vs. Gunther hands down. If you can make Gunther bleed you deserve respect which is what Damian earned, showing he is a main event player and executing a babyface turn thanks to Finn as well. I'm very sad to see the Judgement Day implode but it was done perfectly. My only complaint was how slow the main event felt in the beginning. It was great but it was a bit of a snail's pace to start. Solo is a main event star and can hold his own, but it felt so incredibly slow until Cody picked offense. Don't really have a worst match to pick from either. Overall, 9.4/10 for me!"

Triple H needs to stop this nonsense of only doing title changes at the big events, stories need to be progressed earlier, and they let every major angle to be done here, so the show became repetitive, the in-ring wasn't a focus and basically every match had interferences and huge development changes happening, it was an angle show, just like Meltzer defined. I've enjoyed some matches, specially Priest vs Gunther, but it didn't had that match that made me go crazy about it, it was a predictable and filler event, and even though it was good, SummerSlam can't be like that."

After that US title where FINALLY Knight gets the belt from Logan, cool match too with good spots from the two who are good wrestlers even tho Knight almost killed Logan. After Nia vs Bayley for the womens championship belt. a match pretty classic that is around the fact that Nia is indeed pretty heavy and Bayley is fighting hard against someone stronger than her, tho it make the match a bit slow for my tasten, still good to see Bayley lifting Nia from time to time. Tiffany comes in with her contract, but doesn't do much because Nia wins after crushing Bayley ! After continuation with the match that everybody was waiting Drew vs Punk, a very very hot feud that was very nice to follow and we should have an explosive finish ! Rollins as a special refere putting out a show of course, a very good match with a lot of good spots and psyshology, GTS of Punk on Seth and McIntyre gets the win, good match ! Then the WHC Gunther vs Priest, also psychological match strong shots, then Fin tricked Priest, weird, and Gunther finish with a sleeper hold, a very good match, i see that the WWE is trying to make a face turn for Priest, good idea because this dude also deserves it. Finally finishing with the main event Solo vs Cody, Cody entering with a sick mask ! Match for the WWE championship, and i was affraid of it but it's true the match is slow, then the rest of the bloodline comes in to save the day (lol), and in answer KO and Randy Orton the avengers enters the match ! That said, I found the opener interesting and suspenseful, right up to the somewhat expected but still well executed denouement (8/10). Bron and Sami fought a battle that I found too fast. I understand the idea of making Bron a dominant monster, but doing it this way seems a bit hard on Sami. We might as well do a quicker squash that relies on surprise (6/10). Logan Paul shouldn't have been at PLE given his statements all week, so it's hard to rate this decent match with an appreciable outcome (6.75/10). Nia and Bayley put on a decent but rather slow match, with no obvious mistakes but whose main interest was the arrival of Stratton (6.75/10). As for Punk vs Drew, the limited in-ring quality is undeniable, but the psychological aspects of the match were more interesting to me. Rollins was well used and the sequel looks interesting despite the impression of stagnation (8/10). The best in-ring match of the evening was between the two big men, Damian Priest and Gunther. The strength of both lies in their ability to have a varied register and a sustained rhythm despite their size. What's more, Finn's intervention added a touch of drama to the end of the match (8/10). Finally, the main event symbolizes the criticisms of what Triple H can do, so much the interest lay much more in the outside interventions than in the confrontation between Cody and Solo. The criticisms are often justified, but the emotions provided seem to counterbalance, to some extent, the shortcomings of such a proposition (7.75/10). Scoring criteria Match quality: 2.75/4 Angle quality: 1.75/2 Bonus/Malus: -0.75 points for the advertising hype; +0.5 for the great atmosphere in Cleveland. Bron vs Sami was alright, although their Money in the Bank match was better, Knight vs Logan had some another impressive heel work from Paul, Drew vs Punk delivered story-wise and it was nice to see Punk back in shape, while Gunther vs Priest was a hard-hitting contest with some interesting stuff with Finn chimed in. And then the main event was almost the same as the WrestleMania main event, but with less star power and this time the logic loop holes were more visible. [10.0] "I honestly thought this was the best SummerSlam since 2002. If you think about it all the matches on the card had a really great story behind them. Liv and Rhea's story with Dom was really well done through the last few months, because with Rhea's injury, creative had to pivot. It turned out to be a decently built up story. Same can be said for the Punk/Drew feud. They already had their plans for WrestleMania, Punk got injured, they pivoted, and now they have a feud of the year on their hands, and the angle has a lot of gas left in the tank. Bron being built up as a killer, winning in just over 5 minutes made all the sense in the world. Not every match needs to go 15+ minutes! I felt Bayley vs Nia had the weakest story going in, but its light years better than a few years ago when the womens division title matches were basically 'i want to be champion, i can beat you' and now the ladies finally have some real direction. Gunther and Nia winning now helps solidify winning K/QOTR as something that will propel somebody to main event level. What the KOTR was literally designed for. Priest and Gunther was really good and it was a time where I felt like Priest really looked like he was the WORLD CHAMPION, and unfortunately he lost, but fortunately it was to Gunther who has now etched his name in stone. So well deserved. The main event was okay, i understand it was bloodline rules but wasnt sure about rehashing the WrestleMania match where people are making sure their theme songs hit before running a country mile to the ring. With that being said, I found the ending to be pretty epic, despite the fact I really wanted the Bloodline to attempt to be all together to try 'make it work' with a Roman/Solo power struggle before Rock comes back. Wrestler of the show I'll give to Priest. Moment of the show for me is Dom turning on Rhea. Funniest moment of the show was Jelly Roll hitting an amazing one armed chokeslam. Worst thing of the show: They do continue to plod along really slowly between the matches and I'm not entirely sure why they do it that way but i think 7 matches in 3 hours would be plenty of time. I guess they just want to let the show breathe a bit."

"(8.0) A stacked card with a lengthy story attached to each match, in which each of them delivered strongly. Liv Morgan had a particularly strong showing in the opener, where Rhea Ripley reminded us why she is the most dominant woman in professional wrestling even in a losing effort. Bron Breakker showed everyone that he can hang on the main stage and look convincing while doing so, the match while short may have been lacking in some areas but still effectively put over Bron as a rising powerhouse that he has been touted as. LA Knight was able to silence some doubters with a great performance against a more athletic Logan Paul, Knight held his own and didn't need to be carried at all by his opponent throughout the match. Nia Jax has come a long way from years previous and has grown to be a powerhouse that the audience is beginning to believe, Bayley in her own right looked great as usual and deserves her praise for going all out in each match she has. Drew McIntyre may have carried CM Punk in bits of their match, but Punk came in and gave a great performance coming off of injury, though a little slower due to age he still looked like himself of younger years, and proved he can still go at a high rate. Damien Priest arguably appeared as a top guy for the first time in his career with a phenomenal match against GUNTHER, who never disappoints and picked up a well deserved win and his first world championship on the main roster. Cody Rhodes did his usual Cody stuff in the main event, but I was particularly impressed with Solo, who gave what might be his best main roster performance to date. - Overall a great show and spectacle, which in my opinion should rank in the top 5 Summerslams of all time. The mind games liv was playing took too long, it was 5 minutes into the match before they actually touched it each. The match itself was fine, it wasn't as intense as I was hoping it would be, although i though for a second rhea actually got herself injured again that was nice. The ending played out exactly it should have been with Dom betraying rhea. The match was nothing special I feel like this match needed a extra 10 minutes to really getting into it. 6.4/10 Bron vs sami - this match was very fast and was no where near as good as their first match. I feel like sami should have kicked out after the 2 spears, and Bron should have just kept spearing him until he couldn't move. The match wasn't very good to me, this match really did need a extra 5 minutes. 4.8/10 La knight vs logan paul - this match started off very hot I though it was going to end in a dq or something but the eventually got into the ring. There's not much to say about this match it was one of the better matches on the show, although la knight no selling the bass Knuckles was definitely a Choice. 7.5/10 Nia jax vs bayley - this match started off pretty slow, there were so great back and forth and a little call back their last match in nxt. Tiffany got involved and tried to cash in failed, nia the shockingly won the match didn't see that coming the match was fine 6/10 Punk vs drew - everybody talking about this match. It started off crazy but it slowly started to dead down mainly because of seth which was a big distracting in this match. But let's talk about what everyone is currently talking about the bracelet. Everyone is saying how stupid it was for cm punk to be focusing on a stupid $4 bracelet that a fan made for him. I disagree with this punk himself said how important the bracelet is to him and how he carried it everywhere he went while traveling to remember his wife and dog, as their names is on. People like to say "we'll it's just a stupid bracelet who cares its not a living thing" a ring is not a living thing, a necklace is not a living thing, jewelry in general is not a living thing, things only matter based on how much power u give it. Not to mention drew said how emotional punk is and knew using the bracelet was going to get under his skim. The person he hates the most in this world is kissing a bracelet with his wife name on it. Now back to the match the match was good it had all the story however it seems their hatred for other another got s Swept under the Rug. 6.8/10 Damien vs gunther - this match had everything that was missing from the punk match extremely hard hitting however u get that in every gunther match that's why he's so good. I wasn't expecting finn to turn so soon knowing triple h and his booking. This match was great the heel turn gunther bleeding from his chest made this one of the better matches today. 8.7/10 Cody vs solo - this match almost put me to sleep wow was this match boring. Roman saved this match. I'm only giving it a 5 solely because of Roman 5/10. I think this ppv was good all the right people won and it gets u hyped for Monday and Friday. Don't know how some people think this is a 5 out of 10 that's just crazy its a solid 7/10"

The main event went better than I initially expected, and I thought it ended up being pretty darn good in the end (largely due to Cody Rhodes). Drew McIntyre vs CM Punk was pretty good, and Seth Rollins did a great job causing more tension/drama throughout that entire match. The opener with Liv Morgan vs Rhea Ripley was a REALLY good women's title match. Plus, I LOVE that Dominik Mysterio is officially in a romantic relationship with Liv Morgan now. LA Knight THANKFULLY ended Logan Paul's awful United States title reign in another really good match on this ppv. The other 2 matches were not anything special; but they still ended up being decent contests in the end. Overall, this was a great ppv, and Summerslam is officially my 2nd favorite WWE ppv of the year (behind Wrestlemania 40). I give this strong show a 9 out of 10 here."

It certainly wasn't horrible OR great, lot of stupid moments, but also a couple of very good matches and moments. Highlights were Gunther and Roman, lowlights were the first 20 minutes of the main event and the bracelet story."

Sami and Bron, Drew and Punk (minus the Seth shenanigans), Damian and Gunther, Logan and LA Knight and of course Cody and Solo all were great.. even Liv and Rhea. The only match I didn't care for is Nia and Bayley.. and really didn't care for her getting the title. The finish to Seth and Drew and the finish to Damian/Gunther sucked too. I really don't think it was time to put a belt on him again.. but whatever."

The good matches are strong, with the Logan Paul and Gunther matches worth checking out, and the CM Punk and Cody matches worth it for the story. Not a bad match in the whole show really, I think it's definitely worth your time."

[8.0] "This was a good show, and a VAST improvement on last year's edition. From a pure results perspective, it was probably the best-booked show this year, even better than Mania Night 2. Any that think the outcomes were predictable are simply admitting that they were the right outcomes. Rhea deserves to toil without the title some more. Sami needed to drop the belt to hopefully move to the WHC scene. Logan's underwhelming reign needed to end/LA Knight needed a signature win. Nia's improvements needed to be legitimized. Punk needs to fight from behind. The world deserves Gunther as WHC. Cody shouldn't drop the belt as yet. The wrestling on the show, outside of one match, ranged from solid to flirting with excellence. Besides the IC squash, I don't think there were any 'bad' matches here. One match overdelivered, another flirted with doing so, and one was near-excellent as expected. The rest were fine bouts. Roman's return was executed to perfection and immediately elevates Cody's already great reign to another level. The crowd ate this up. It wasn't perfect. The card was repetitive. Every match was a singles match and only 1 had a stipulation, even if Punk-Drew got some wiggle room. It was also unfortunate that neither tag belts got to be on this show, especially DIY (even in defeat) since Gargano is from this state and was used heavily to promote the show. All in all, a show that progressed all the major storylines with solid in-ring that offered the soft reset the company needed wrp to its singles champions. That's a good show."

If that's what people want I'm sure they'll have loved it, and the scores show a lot of people did. Personally I'd like to have seen better in ring action, but several matches here had a sharp disparity in the skills of the competitors and had one person obviously holding back. Still it was mostly an entertaining show, and the stories were mostly told during the matches not backstage, two things that are not the case with the worst WWE shows."

The problem is there were only two matches that were better than your average Raw or SmackDown match. Logan Paul Vs LA Knight and Damian Priest Vs Gunther were both very good and lived up to the moment of being featured on WWE's 4th biggest show of the year behind only the Royal Rumble and both nights of WrestleMania. The other matches were basic (Sami-Bron, Bayley-Nia), reliant on smoke and mirrors and storyline theatrics (Rhea-Liv, Cody-Solo) or were dragged down by horrendous creative (Punk-Drew). If you missed this show then watch Priest-Gunther and Logan-Knight. The rest you'll be more than satisfied with by simply watching highlight videos to catch up."

Zayn. Both had impactful finishes that elevated the wrestler or storyline but fell short in-ring. Wasn't particularly a fan of the limb work in the women's match. While I thought both men had more in the bag for a match at this stage. I'm not sure if it's a chemistry issue or something, but I felt disappointed with what had been offered so far. This show picked up for the U.S. title match where LA Knight was finally rewarded with the title. Logan and Knight stepped up big in this match showing they can go when their opponent isn't a ring general. The show took a dip for the other women's title match. The match was well worked but never shifted to another gear that could've made it better. Bayley is a great performer in these types of matches which made me want her title reign to roll on. The next two matches were the standouts of the night. I was satisfied with what was given between Punk and McIntyre. I do agree that Seth was a major distraction in this match, but I can understand given how heated this match was. They couldn't go to a straight singles match or stip match right away. Having this outcome gives the story more time to develop and expand to a trilogy. I do believe they have a better match in them, but their match was good enough to leave you wanting more. Preist and Gunther was a great match with both wrestlers becoming bigger stars by the end of the night. Very hard-working and hard-hitting match. Gunther looks to be a long-term champ after this win. Solo and Cody was what I expected it to be. Solo showed that he is not able to step up in a main event role and has become stale in-ring. Cody tried his best but the match ended up being a whatever match. Roman's return was as big as I expected it to be and shows why he's still the face of wrestling in the U.S."

Of the 7 matches that happened, I'd say all but one were subpar, with the one exception being Priest vs GUNTHER, which was pretty good but nothing astonishing. Opener was dull. A weirdly muted march to get to an overly telegraphed finish, but it was at least a creative finish. Sami and Bron showed off their total lack of chemistry afterwards, a match that made Bron look weaker than he went in, and made Sami look a lot less like the miracle worker he usually is. Knight vs Paul was fine. Logan is still pretty hopeless in ring, only gaining acclaim for his ability to do Movez, but Knight put up a very good performance. Nia and Bayley was bad, took place in front of a dead silent crowd, and the final 3 minutes felt like pro wrestling sandpaper. Punk vs McIntyre, huh. Came in with soaring expectations of a climactic bloodbath but left asking why I even bothered. Punk looked messy, Drew was slow, the pacing was awful, and the tone of the rivalry was completely betrayed by the plodding nature of the middle section of the match. Already spoke on the semi main, so let's talk main event. Surprisingly, not terrible! Solo is, however. The only thing he proved to the crowd, and the audience watching at home, was that he will never belong in a main event scene. They cloud his awfulness with a whole load of bullshit, and I ate it all up. Roman being back can only be a benefit, but good lord the rest of the show up until his music hit was a real slog to get through."

Jax and Bayley's match was alright, ended with a new reign. Punk and Drew had a good match, maybe not as heated as I would've wanted but this clearly isn't the end to the feud. Great match by Gunther and Preist with an awesome betrayal again. Cody and Solo's match was kinda boring at times but ended great with Roman Reigns returning. Summerslam felt more like an event to set up a war over control of the Bloodline and the implosion of the Judgment Day than the culmination of big summer feuds. Priest/Gunther was great, but much of the undercard felt unspectacular. McIntyre/Punk should have had great heat, but just felt like a vehicle to feature Rollins and move towards a future three way. And having another Bloodline Rules with over booking and run ins felt a little too forumlaic. Not a bad show by any means, but for the second biggest event of the year it felt flat."

"Overall, the event had excellent storytelling that engaged the crowd from start to finish. However, there were too many BS endings to matches. I remember sports fans used to criticize the NBA, claiming you only needed to watch the last two minutes of a game as nothing in the first forty six minutes mattered. One team would make a run at the end that would decide the game, so why bother watching anything leading up to the end? WWE matches are similar, in that fans are just waiting for a run-in or betrayal to occur. Example 1: Many fans didn't care about the actual Priest vs. Gunther match itself -- they were just waiting for heavily foreshadowed Finn Balor betrayal. Example 2: The crowd was mostly quiet during the main event because they anxiously hoped and waited for Roman Reigns to return. For many fans, it didn't matter what spots the wrestlers did up until that point. Still, the show was entertaining and WWE continue to do record business. So although the constant interference isn't my cup of tea, as I believe there are many examples of progressing storylines with clean but creative finishes, it is clear the WWE constant interference formula is working from a business standpoint."

I do appreciate that Hhh finally booked a more unpredictable and interesting PPV compared to most of the other ppvs hes put on this year. It felt more inspired instead of the usual bland booking. The Intercontinental title being less than 6 minutes, Punk vs Drew was way too tame for 2 people that want to murder each other, Liv and Rhea never really got going then abruptly ended in the exact way you expected with Dom helping Liv retain. Most of the positive for this show comes to what it did for the next episodes and of of Damien vs Gunther and LA Knight vs Logan being the main saving grace for this show."

Each outcome was the perfect result and I can't think of a single nitpick with the show itself, the only issue is with incredibly hot acts being left off, but I'd rather than a slog log the shows of old. Two matches basically running with the same storyline and same finish with Dom and Finn turning and doing the same thing. Only one match did not have interference.... Bron and Sami. Hats off to Drew for doing everything in his power to make a 2nd grade level storyline, a fight over a bracelet seem entertaining. Trying to make us think Solo is a top talent when he has lost way more matches than he's won is insane. Liv/Rhea enters a new phase with what is looking to be the destruction of Judgment Day happening very quickly. Bron finally cements himself on the main roster with a main roster singles title win, and that same thing happens to LA Knight which cements the midcard change on both shows. Nia comes back with a main roster win, giving the current championship scene a monster as a title holder. Drew/Seth/Punk is nowhere close to done since Punk can say he pinned Drew beyond a three count twice. Gunther completes his journey from NXT UK as someone who might go down as the single longest tenured champion in WWE history between his NXT UK, NXT, IC and now WHC reigns. Finally, the semi-obvious return of Roman closed out the show to a very hot crowd who was obviously waiting for the interference that any Bloodline Rules match warrants. For a company who wants to create moments and stories? Finn finally turned on Priest after Priest cost him the WHC. Dom finally turned on Rhea after essentially being the Judgment Day whipping boy. Cody/Roman showed some form of mutual respect while obviously setting up the Original Tribal Chief vs the New Tribal Chief. Jacob Fatu continued to showcase he is a great pickup for WWE and hopefully(as of this writing, it wasn't know if the injury was real vs worked) isn't actually injured. This was a good show for WWE because while the wrestling wasn't great, RAW and Smackdown will be fundamentally different as we enter the final stages of their current TV contracts."

Bell to bell most matches were fine, stories developed in satisfying is predictable ways, it was a solid event. It also avoided my biggest issues with Mania this year, of being overlong and overbooked. Nothing overstayed its welcome, and even the Bloodline rules main event stayed pretty clean all in all with the only even slightly unexpected (but not really) appearance being Roman's return. The biggest thing that was lacking here was the feel of it truly being a huge event, second only in importance to Wrestlemania. I can't really articulate why as well as I would like, but a lot of these matches just lacked that big fight feel, even with celebrity cameos and huge returns and title changes it just didn't feel like an event on the level of a huge stadium show. The main event was also always destined to disappoint, as it felt obvious that Solo wasn't about to win the top prize in the company and that this fight was more about setting up Roman's return and furthering the Bloodline story. Felt like the end of a season and that's exactly how it should feel. Maybe the matches where not the technical masterpieces that some expected but this was all about the stories. The implosion of the JD was executed perfectly, Liv looked like the most connaving, smart and evil person ever and seemed like a mastermind with the perfect plan. As for Finn Balor, I can't remember the last time he felt so threatening. Nia won convincingly and the dynamic of friendly champion with the money in the bank winner will be great. LA Knight finally got what he deserves in a very good match, cathartic even cause MGK made hate Paul even more. I didn't think that Drew was the right winner on paper but Punk losing because he couldn't control his emotions is great storytelling, and rollins played the ref greatly. MOTN was of course Priest vs Gunther, with Priest finally getting a great reaction an keeping his babyface momendum with the betrayal of Balor. As for Gunther he's my favourite and should be given everything, he deserves it. And the main event was a typical Bloodline match. Slow but the climax was grander than imagined with the return of the OTC. Last, I left Bron winning Sami for the IC title cause it was my least favourite. CM Punk and Drew McIntyre's encounter sure lacked the initial intensity it started with, but that's probably Seth Rollins slowing the pace down, but a pretty good match. But what indeed is a MOTN and probably the best performance in the man's late career, is Priest giving tooth and nail in an amazing performance (Suit Williams gave it a 2.25 by the way, lmao) to try everything to retain his World Title in an all-timer narrative of "a gifted wrestler who has seen success in everything he has been involved in" against "an individual who has to fight for his place everytime, " a contrast of individualism that was clearly displayed there, what a match, and of course, despite the troublesome problem Logan Paul is, he still gave LA Knight's best PPV performance, probably ever. But just being watchable doesn't mean it's good, and I felt the show was still lacking. Let's get the positives out of the way first: Gunther/Priest was clearly the match of the night tonight, and despite my dislike for Logan Paul's booking and personality, the man is still decent between the ropes for someone who's still relatively new to the game. But that's where the positives end, I'm afraid. Both women's storylines going into this show have been pretty bad - the Liv Morgan Revenge Tour has been one continuous ick from me, and one could almost forget that SmackDown has stories other than the Bloodline - and even though she's improved in the past few years, Nia Jax is still stunningly out of her depth. I also found myself incredibly disappointed by McIntyre/Punk, which was a massive let-down compared to the build. And then there's the main event. It's not as bad as last year's, but it still suffers creatively from the same problems the Bloodline story had last year; Summerslam is supposed to be WWE's second biggest show of the year, so the main event needs to be more than just another move on the chessboard. Maybe it's to be expected - solving the "and then what? " problem when you need to keep the story going after the grand finale is hard enough for the best writers - but the teething problems are still very evident in the show."

It isn't a squash nor is it a back and forth with insanely fast pace. (5/10) US title match is pretty fun with Logan being a natural heel and annoyingly good in ring. Great foil for Knight. The brawl before the bell was a nice choice and that avalanche Superplex was cool (7/10) Nia moves around a bit better than a few years ago and has a solid enough match with Bayley despite me not liking her as champion. Dom turning on Rhea and Liv retaining was the right move to keep this feud going (5/10). Bron vs Sami for the Intercontinental Championship was okay. For as short as it was, it needed to be a one-sided squash, but instead it was competitive with an abrupt finish. Bron winning the title was the right move (4/10). LA Knight vs Logan for the United States Championship was good. LA Knight once again steps up in a PLE and gives one of the best performances of his career. Logan showed off his impressive athleticism and there were the usual shenanigans with the brass knuckles. LA Knight overcoming that to win his first title in WWE was a nice, well deserved moment (7/10). Nia vs Bayley for the Women's Championship was solid. Nia has been good since she came back, her winning the title was a surprise but with Bayley's reign not being anything special this was the right way to go. Tiffany teasing the cash in to help Nia builds the story between them (6/10). Drew vs Punk was really good. This match was heavily focused on the storytelling, and Rollins as the special guest referee was perfect. Punk lost because he couldn't control his emotions, quite ironic because that's what he accused Drew of doing multiple times. No doubt there will be a lot more to this feud (8/10). Gunther vs Priest for the World Heavyweight Champion was a really good match. Two big guys beating the crap out of each other, can't go wrong with that. Finn's betrayal that cost Priest the title solidifies Priest's face turn where he can focus on getting revenge. Gunther as the new champion was another good decision. The main event of Cody vs Solo for the WWE Championship was bad. Solo doesn't have enough aura or wrestling ability to carry a very long match before all the shenanigans happen. The Owens and Orton returns fell a bit flat. Jacob Fatu was a highlight, he's a beast. The biggest moment of the entire show happened when Roman Reigns returned to a massive pop. He got a great reaction as he beat up Solo and helped Cody retain. Jacob Fatu and Roman Reigns save this from being a disaster (2/10). SummerSlam 2024 was a very busy PLE. A lot of big story developments happened. The Judgment Day is in shambles between the Dom and Finn betrayals, with Rhea and Priest becoming faces. Every match has the correct outcome and everything that happened made sense. The match quality was a mixed bag, but the storytelling more than made up for it. Roman Reigns returning to cap off the show ended things on a high note. Overall, it was a good show that would have been better if that main event wasn't so bad. 7/10"

Summerslam is supposed to be a show where the biggest stories either begin or enter the next gear and the show succeeded on doing so. Rhea and Liv was a fantastic match with the right story for the next step in the women's division on RAW. Rhea got to remind people that she's been an excellent seller since her days in NXT. Bron and Sami was the beatdown needed to keep Bron's momentum strong and give a monster the intercontinental championship. He kayfabe injured Ilja only weeks before, he should be able to destroy Sami. LA Knight busted out moves we've never seen done before in WWE and worked a much brisker pace than people expect from him. Bayley had one of the best carry jobs of her career getting Nia to a strong performance as Bayley also showed surprising strength spots. Drew and Seth had a great story match if one I believe is being somehow both under and overrated simultaneously. The match wasn't the biggest piece of cinema in wrestling in years and it isn't terrible either. Gunther and Damien Priest had arguably WWE's match of the year and a strong contender globally and Cody and Solo had a strong fun match if a match that honestly could not follow and top off the rest of the card. Nia's performance in her title win, the one filler talking segment and Cody being unable to follow and exceed the rest of the card stop the show from being a 10 for me but this to me is about the definition of a 9."

The problem with this event was that all the matches had the potential to be great, but HHH chose to focus on the storyline side of things and that's not something that I like. The plots/turns/returns were well executed, but I expected more from the matches and the event itself. Again, it was not bad, but it could have been waaaaaaaay better."

Sami/Bron left me satisfied just for the result, but if Bron was gonna squash Sami why the fuck didnt he do it the first time. LA Knight and Logan Paul COOKED. Im a fan of Knights in-ring style personally and he worked it well here. Bayley/Nia is getting a lot more hate than it deserves. It wasnt anything super special but it was a solid PPV womens title match in my opinion. Drew/Punk was overwrought Thunderdome slop, but I did enjoy it. Cody/Solo was overwrought Thunderdome slop, and i did not enjoy it. Boring, boring, boring. Yeah Roman coming back popped me a little but come on. You threw Solo in the main event of your second stadium show of the year solely as a vehicle for Roman Reigns return? Not doing Solo, Cody, or the show itself any favors. And the worst part is that Solo exceeded expectations. And it was still boring. But lets talk about something good. Priest/Gunther was absolutely match of the night. Priest definitively proved himself world champ material I think. Gunther did what Gunther does. In hindsight a clean finish would have been better, but the interference was subtle enough to not totally ruin the match for me, and definitely added another layer of emotional depth to what was already great in-ring storytelling. In the moment though, the turn made me upset in exactly the way it was supposed to, so thats a job well done in my opinion. Overall Id say 7.5/10, far far better than the garbage we got last year in Detroit. Thanks for reading"

McIntyre and Punk slightly underdelivered for me, the main event was just as I expected. First 4 matches were all just about what I expected, although Bron/Sami felt like a bit of a formality being as short as it was."

Somehow Reddit thinks this show was unreal and that Punk v Drew was absolute cinema, which is insane to me. If youve been watching wrestling for longer than a couple years and you feel like that match was absolute cinema then I truly believe we are watching two different universes of wrestling. Current WWE feels like its built entirely around big moments so people can share a ten second clip of a HUGE entrance pop, but the in ring is so by the books and samey each match that I just cannot sit through a full show anymore. Theyre using matches to build to big promos, as opposed to using promos to build to big matches. Every match was used to further a story, which is great, but the matches themselves are entirely inconsequential. You watch the match so you can see what the finish is so you get excited for whats going to happen in a backstage segment on the weekly shows. This is the absolute antithesis of what I want in wrestling and I think Im just kinda over this company for a while."

Bad booking ruined the most meat-and-potatoes blood feud around (Punk/Drew), and a bit of an awkward chemistry ruined an otherwise interesting match on paper (Priest/Gunther). Every other match was the worst possibly matches the wrestlers could've had. It's almost impressive to have a run that bad on a PPV. Punk vs. McIntyre was also a bit disappointing since I think that Seth took up way too much space and minimized the tension between them. Priest vs. Gunther was amazing; I LOVED that finish and the evolution of Priest's character (and the match was obviously awesome even without the story elements). I also really liked Knight vs. Paul, and I think that LA Knight is very underrated in-ring. The new WWE trend of main events built around entrance pops may work for the mostly non discerning fans in the live crowds, who crave "moments" above all, but it kills the heat of the actual matches as everyone waits around to see whose music is going to hit next, and that's just not what wrestling should be about. The Punk/Drew match, which was set up perfectly to be a super heated grudge match, was reduced to Punk melting down over a charm bracelet, in one of the most baffling and embarrassing pieces of WWE "storytelling" I've ever seen, and think of the mountains of shitty ground that covers. Horrendous. Gunther/Priest and LA Knight's shockingly good performance carried the show if you're someone not into WWE's idea of telling stories."

It's like they realized this was fine during peak Bloodline and ran with it now. It's so overblown in every single match here that it may as well have all just been taped at the PC to not waste a crowds time. Rhea/Liv started the event well enough, but it better served a stupid story about a living meme than the actual championship. Still, this one was alright, but the rest was a slog. For a match that was basically hyped since Punk's return, I was genuinely shocked that they centered it around a kid bracelet he made for his dog. A feud that was build since the Royal Rumble, involving two guys who really sold the hell out of how much they despise each other, was turned into basically a playground fight with frequent intermission for when a guy decided to monologue about what is going on. This was genuinely the most stupid match I've ever seen this year. I was shocked during it and was still shocked during the following bout which was pretty decent. Both Priest and Gunther really tried during that match and I found a new appreciation for the first as a top champion who really showed out. All the parts involving Finn were also really fun and I loved Damian suddenly chocking him! With that being said, the match still wasn't anything special and wasn't able to wash away the sour taste in my mouth from the previous one. As for the main event, it was just another boring Bloodline match. All in all, the saving grace of this PLE was that it was only seven matches long. And that the transphobic guy lost."

"There is a creativity problem that we are used to seeing in WWE in recent years. The story and match quality of the shows are not enough, but they keep the audience behind them with hype. This situation does not bode well for the future of WWE. The main problem I am talking about is that five years ago, the stories flowing in weekly shows started to develop from PLE shows to PLE shows. I think this is not better for the audience. Non-fanatic viewers who have been following WWE for many years will agree with my comment that WWE is more successful when it sells stories, but what we watched in this show was not a part of those creative stories. Everything progresses predictably and there are no surprises. Bloodline and Punk's return are big reasons for hype, but we cannot see the depth of the story and this hype does not transfer to the match tempos. Sometimes we see the boring sides of logical progression in WWE's current shows. Gunther's main belt winning scenario and match were far from WWE's creative story-making skills. The Ripley and Morgan incident is not much different than when it was done with Christian Jericho and Trish. WWE needs to be more innovative now and the audience needs to want innovation."

Gunther vs. Damian Priest war definitiv mein Match Of The Night. The highlight was the match between Gunther and Damien Priest (Gunther is an incredible talent and it was the best Damien Priest has looked since winning the World Heavyweight Championship). I thought the Finn Balor turn was executed better than most of the other story beats on the show and actually made Damien Priest look good in defeat (him rising out of the submission to choke Finn was a great visual). The rest? LA Knight vs Logan Paul was fun for what it was, albeit there were a couple of rough looking moments (Logan Paul getting suplexed on his head, LA not catching Logan on a dive). The finish was pretty cool, with a BFT counter out of the Buckshot Lariat. That's where the positives end for me. The rest of the matches on this card ranged from forgettable to downright bad. What was my most anticipated match - the friendship bracelet soap opera between CM Punk, Drew McIntyre and the referee - ended up being less of a violent grudge match and more of a 5th graders school play. Lots of ACTING (but not CINEMA, as wrestling fans are so fond of saying). Seth Rollins even delivered a monologue mid-match. Rhea/Liv had an incredibly predictable finish - we all knew what was coming. Unfortunately it took 15 minutes of plodding in-ring action to get there. Liv and Rhea do not have great chemistry. Neither do Bayley and Nia. The Tiffy MITB tease was the most exciting part of the match, but was immediately denied. Bron/Sami was basically a squash, which is strange since Sami beat Bron clean at the last PLE. An interesting booking decision there. And then there's the main event. If you've seen one Bloodline main event, you've seen them all. My god it's getting boring. Roman is back, which is great. He was a real sight for sore eyes and desperately needed to inject some life into the Bloodline storyline (which is feeling very stale). I know everyone else is saying it, but damn Solo is NOT IT. He has absolutely nothing between the ropes and isn't particularly charistmatic. This was an unbelievably boring match before the Bloodline procession of interferences. It felt like the crowd were just waiting for the interferences too. A shame about Jacob Fatu - hopefully he's not too badly hurt as he's been really great since debuting in WWE. A predictable PLE that didn't deliver on my high expectations and too often felt like a soap opera, not a wrestling show. Also, it deserves mentioning that 6 out of the 7 matches on this show had interferences. This show, like most modern day WWE PLE's, was plagued with the same pacing issues we've come to expect, which makes the 4 hours harder to digest. Lots of ads/video packages, long entrances and minimal in-ring action. I'm still so disappointed in Drew/Punk. Also the Bloodline main events MUST END. They are all the same (even though we now have a new Bloodline) and it's boring to watch. 5/10 because, even though there was a lot I didn't like, I LOVED Priest/Gunther."

From Dominik Mysterio's betrayal of Rhea Ripley in the opener, to the adulation LA Knight received upon winning that elusive United States Championship, to the high stakes of Punk v McIntyre (and Rollins), to the implosion of The Judgment Day, to the sheer pandemonium of that return in the main event. In terms of matches, Priest v Gunther was an instant classic, a real masterclass between two powerhouse performers. Liv v Rhea was very technically good too. The highlight of the night for me though was the soap opera-esque excellence of Punk v McIntyre - what it lacked in technical quality, it more than made up for in terms of high drama, and the ending was pure cinema. WWE seem to be properly on a roll as we head back round to the second half of their calendar year, and are firing off all cylinders under the direction of Paul Levesque and co. Dom's betrayal was hurried; Finn's betrayal took a pathetically bad moment to set up; and Roman's return should have felt like an all-time moment but instead was just good. In-ring-wise this show offered nothing. Punk vs Drew was the best bout, and it also languished too much in dramatics. Rollins' performance was actually the saviour of Summerslam."

Nein!

Dom turns on Rhea after a decent match between Rhea and Liv, Punk and Drew started clunky mainly due to Rollins as the third wheel, but turned into something pretty entertaining by the end. The human garbage can that is Logan Paul had a nice match with Knight. Gunther and Priest was very good. Main event and Zayn matches were not great however."

The matches were very good for the most part, lots of title changes, the only disappointment was the main event but I was expecting that. But Summerslam still deserves a good 7/10, it could have been better but it was very good, Hunter cooked with the winners!"

"8/10. While I would have liked if this card had more bangers I still thought it was pretty good. The best part about the show being the booking/right results. I thought Gunther, LA Knight, and Bron Breakker all needed the win here and they got it. The highlights of this show being the Roman return and the fantastic reaction. The Gunther vs Priest match which was very good and probably Priests best match since the Bad Bunny one. The LA Knight vs Logan Paul match I thought over delivered as well with LA Knight finally winning the US title. I thought while the Punk vs Drew match was hurt by the Rollins shenanigans, it was still pretty good, and I thought CM Punk looked much better than he did during the Royal Rumble. I thought that while Im not personally a huge fan of the Liv/Dom/Rhea storyline, I think they executed it well with Dom betraying Rhea. The Nia Jax vs Bayley match I thought ended up being pretty decent even with lack of heat until the closing stretch. One last highlight was that while Bron vs Sami wasnt quite the good match they are capable of, I enjoyed them establishing Bron as top guy. Some of the lowlights were the main event. While the Roman return was great, the match itself wasn't particularly enjoyable or good. Solo is just not a main event wrestler. The match was also hurt by everyone just waiting until the interference and the eventual Roman return. Another lowlight was the heavy Seth involvement in the Punk match. I thought the match could of been much better without it but I guess they'll save that for down the line. Overall while not having the great matches Id like, I thought this was the best PPV since Wrestlemania Night 2. I hope that maybe at Bash in Berlin we can get some great matches on that card opposed to this one. This show was much better than last years Summerslam and overall Id give a thumbs up on Summerslam 2024."

9 Punkte!"

Personally I did not think this show was good, the two biggest matches being Punk vs Drew and Cody vs Solo were extremely boring to me. Cool that Roman is back though I am sure people that watch every Friday are sick of Solos bum ass. Anyway I thought Seth was a complete detriment to the Punk match and added literally nothing except maybe an excuse for Punks loss. For a blood feud full of hatred and constant personal jabs back and forth that match was so ridiculously tame. Wish they had used Punks wedding ring or something rather than that kindergarten friendship bracelet. On a positive note, Gunther is now a world champion. Dude is an actual god of pro wrestling and will go down as an all time great. The WWE style may not be for me but if Gunther is wrestling you can be damn sure I will watch. Logan Paul vs LA Knight was an overdelivery, Gunther vs Priest was a very strong, physical title match, and I appear to be singular fan that was really engaged with CM Punk vs Drew McIntyre in spite of the Seth Rollins distractions. Morgan vs Ripley ended right before it was on the precipice of becoming good, and Zayn/Breakker was a vehicle to get Bron over rather than much of a match. This show appears to be polarizing, which is understandable, WWE in 2024 is very take it or leave it, but i thought most of what they did tonight worked and i come out of it interested to see what the new status quo is on the TV, between the new champions on RAW and Cody and Roman sharing air time as dual top babyfaces."

Jacob Fatu was fantastic as always, not sure if the leg injury was kayfabe but I hope not because he's got good momentum currently. Glad Drew and LA Knight won, definitely the right direction for both wrestlers. Baylay and Nia was okay, nothing special, was hoping for a Tiffy cash-in, but we'll see where they take it. Bron beating Sami feels too rushed, for both Bron and the match, but what they did have was good and believable but was the low point of the night. "[2.0] Overall, the show was mostly predictable and the typical, uninspired, repetitive WWE product. LA Knight vs Logan Paul was a decent curtain jerker to get the crowd hyped for the show, but the in-ring action was subpar even with Logan Paul carrying the match, and it was a repeat of most of Logan Paul's matches - decent-to-good in-ring action, followed by his buddies helping him cheat, often leading to his buddies getting beaten up by Logan's opponent. Both women's matches had mostly-unpredictable finishes. That being said, Nia Jax has a history of being a botch machine and her character is pretty one-dimensional and boring. This wasn't any different in her feud against Bailey. There was no reason Nia should have won that match other than shock value, which is never a good idea in wrestling. As for Liv vs Rhea, but it was more entertaining, but also not great in terms of action due to Liv being fairly limited and having to rely on outside interference when WWE has been overly reliant on that with its heel characters. Damian Priest vs Gunther was a decent match, but it was predictable that Finn Bálor would betray Priest and interfere in the match to cause Gunther to win. The build for the match was also not great. Gunther is decent in the ring but just isn't very good on the mic and his wrestling style can be a bit too slow or simple at times for modern wrestling standards. I'm glad Gunther won, but it just made Priest look even worse than he already was in terms of booking. The main event was your typical Bloodline match with all the outside interference from its members and was essentially a repeat of WrestleMania 40's main event, with the Bloodline interfering and causing chaos only for babyfaces to come and even the odds, leading to Cody winning. As for Roman's return, Roman's booking as Universal and Undisputed Champion was not great, in my opinion, and it severely derailed the pushes of other wrestlers, especially Bray Wyatt, LA Knight, and Kevin Owens, so him coming back did not really make me feel one way or the other. He's just WWE's corporate cash cow and he will just make the whole WWE focus on him again, rather than building new main event stars."

The only thing here to appease the workrate crowd was Priest/Gunther, and even that had interference. But as someone who really appreciates the melodrama and theatrics of pro wrestling, I mostly liked everything here, Punk/McIntyre especially hitting my storyline buttons and ultimately being one of my favourite matches of the year so far. Also loved Priest/Gunther and the parts of Rhea/Liv that revolved around the shoulder injury. A few complaints: Hated the main event until it decided to run back Mania XL and wish both the booking and the opponent met the excellent performance Bayley gave. Every single thing was an overbooked mess and every match felt so damn similar to each other. CAN THEY STOP WITH EVERY MATCH DOING SPOTS WITH THE GODDAMN RING POST! ? ! Just crap, way too much booking and not nearly enough good wrestling. Please let matches go longer than 13 minutes and have clean finishes, it really would be okay I swear. Also tremendously predictable booking, and the fact that it took so long to get to these matches and we've seen them over and over just makes it so fucking disappointing. Really really disappointed with a second straight PPV after a run of really solid ones. Crowds are totally out of it and only waiting for entrances. Im not a big fan of these stadium shows as the crowd does not come across good on TV and I think the crowd adds a lot to the shows and matches. The crowd was fairly quiet for most of the show which might have been because its an open stadium or maybe it was also quiet in the stadium. 50, 000 should not sound quieter than the 11, 000 at Clash at the Castle in Scotland or Backlash in France.
