[8.0] "Very good event. The tag matches i think was good with LIJ vs UE be the best of them. The two matches for New Japan Cup that mattered more was very good.Tsuji and Evil wrestled a good enough match and the way that this match went from start to end made it very good. The main event was also very good and Goto showed that he still got it and with his appearance made fans to believe in him again."

[7.0] "I dont think Ive ever had so much whiplash when it comes to booking decisions. How is this the same company who gave belts to Nemeth and Riddle just a month ago? This cup has quickly gone from quite poor in my opinion to really good through interesting narratives and some great wrestling. You had the standard array of multi-man bouts which werent anything special but largely did their job, as well as a quite good LIJ vs United Empire tag. Then were on to the semi-main which was just excellent in my opinion, both men really put in a shift and I wasnt sure as to who would take it throughout, perfect decision to have Tsuji go over, and the manner in which he did made him look like a total star. In the main we had quite an old school matchup which frankly overdelivered. It was a really excellent display of what Goto still has to give, while showing the world just how good SANADA is, he played the desperate bastard a bit to start which made for an interesting dynamic; but that meant by the time Goto won, the crowd was firmly at his back. This show is everything I enjoy about NJPW currently and Im so happy with the booking of this cup (at least post first round)"

[6.0] "The undercard for this show felt pretty weak, but the last three matches were good. Again, nothing I'd go out of my way to recommend happened on this show, but it was all solid work. The New Japan Cup finals of Goto vs. Tsuji isn't the most exciting bout on paper, but Goto possibly winning the IWGP World title and Tsuji possibly being put into a position of prominence this early are both interesting prospects. [MOTN: Hirooki Goto vs. SANADA]"

[6.0] "The New Japan house style works, so this is yet another good event from start to finish. It's hard to care about the undercard because as usual nothing of interest happens and the matches are over before you've blinked twice. I really enjoyed both tournament matches, though. While I understand anyone who isn't up for House Of Torture, their shenanigans are a lot of fun it you don't see these guys thirty times a month. Tsuji made EVIL pay in the end, all is well in the world again. I was also very surprised to see Goto make the finals, but he probably just took Finlay's spot here. SANADA would have made the outcome way more predictable after losing to Naito twice this year already."

[5.0] "Mikey Nicholls & Zack Sabre Jr vs Boltin Oleg & Shoma Kato: Average match featuring young lions but another win for TMDK on this tour which was good to see [**]. DOUKI, Taichi & Yuya Uemura vs El Desperado, Togi Makabe & Tomohiro Ishii: Okay six man tag match, average solid action, Uemura getting the win by submission was good to see [**]. Ryusuke Taguchi & Tanga Loa vs Callum Newman & Great O-Khan: A okay tag team match, Callum Newman being on the receiving end of the fall this time by submission is not great [*1/2]. Chase Owens, Gabe Kidd & KENTA vs Hiroyoshi Tenzan, Toru Yano & YOSHI-HASHI: A house show standard multi man match, BC getting the win here was not surprising [*1/4]. El Phantasmo, Hikuleo, Shota Umino & YOH vs Jack Perry, Ren Narita, Yoshinobu Kanemaru & Yujiro Takahashi: A house show standard multi man match, nothing memorable happened here [**]. Los Ingobernables de Japon vs United Empire: Best multiman match on the card, interesting kind of preview for BOSJ with Hiromu and TJP as well as Hiromu vs Akira when they were in the ring at the same time, all others did their parts well [***]. Yota Tsuji vs EVIL: While it may have not been the best match, it also wasn't the worst match, the No Contest to start with was not the best way to go, but then the match got restarted and it was decent to be honest, the ending sequences with LIJ and HoT coming back out was actually quite interesting to watch, Tsuji winning was a surprise but also the right decision [***1/4]. Hirooki Goto vs SANADA: Really good main event, Hirooki Goto winning was surprising but really good, his match here was just as good as his previous NJC match with Chase Owens, SANADA gave a good performance here but wasn't good enough to win [****1/4]"

[8.0] "A great show that did what it was supposed to do. Most tag matches were good enough, some of them building up to other programs and future title matches and the 2 New Japan Cup matches delivered. EVIL finally got his comeuppance and put over Tsuji perfectly. Goto beat SANADA and makes us believe in him again. This sets up a very interesting final !"
