A lot of garbage on this show with guys that most of them wouldn't get over in any other promotion, which has already been proven, because ECW was the only environment they could work in. The only proper wrestling match here was the 6-Man Tag, as all six guys were able to deliver a very entertaining lucha style match, which was a rarity even in AAA, plus Taz vs Sabu hat its moments, but that's not enough. All matches had to have furniture involved, because otherwise the crowd would get bored, but when the feud actually called for brutality Douglas and Pitbull decided to start the match with chain wrestling. It all culminated in the Three Way that represented everything I hate about ECW - horrible work, garbage wrestling and guys shortening their lives for Heyman's and marks' approval. At least Terry's world title win was something of a feel-good moment, but you had to sit through all of this trash first. |

The opening match very entertaining and for a six minute match, Kronus and Saturn really gave it their all to show off their athleticism for the first match of ECW PPV history. The Michinoku Pro six man match is the definite best match of this show. It really surprised with constant action throughout the time it was given and the purely athletic aspect of this match is far beyond what most audiences in America at the time could have seen anywhere else and far ahead of its time. It is, however, followed by the only match on the show I would consider bad. Shane Douglas and Pitbull 2 is a very boring match and it is almost astounding that it went a whole 20 minutes, being simultaneously the worst and longest match on a card is never a good thing. Luckily everything after that is still great. Taz and Sabu is a good match-up and the three way match is exciting. The main event is the other highlight of the show, not entirely from a pure match standpoint, but for the story being told through the match, from the brutal beating of Terry Funk to the eventual triumph over Raven from Funk and Dreamer, ending the show with a very high point. |

The double main event where Terry Funk has to fight through impossible odds to win a brutal 3 way match and then finally wins the title from Raven with Dreamer's help was an unforgettable and iconic ending to the show. ECW was known for its hardcore wrestling, but the in ring action was really good all night with matches like Sabu vs Taz which had a good major storyline angle after the match, RVD vs Lance Storm and in my opinion the match of the night was the amazing 6-man tag match with the Michonoku Pro stars earning just as much respect from the hardcore and casual fans alike as the stars did! I did hesitate to rate this a 10 because the Franchise vs Pitbull #2 match is absolutely dreadful, but in the end it was the only bad match on the card and other than that it is a consistently great show. |

Duddley vs Eliminators is a classic opening, with frantic moves and beautiful dives and blows by the eliminators. 7 for being too short. Lance Storm and RVD have a great spotfest, with nice reversals, kickouts and even good non sells; Despite everything, the ending is pretty rushed.8. Michinoku pro vs Kaientai DX is the best of the night with leftovers. Despite being a spotfest, there are good shoot style displays, good in-ring psychology moments and great teamwork8. Shane Douglas and Pitbull #2 make the worst of the night; Little action, slow pace and some good interferences that make it less worse.5. Sabu and Taz have great psychology and the spots and grapples are really good despite the botches. The final segment is also better than the fight itself.7. The three way dance is quite busy, especially with Terry Funk's good moonsalts, extreme moments and the great work between the 3.8. Raven VS Terry Funk is almost like squash, but a lot of fun. The fight is pure chaos and seeing Terry Funk winning in the end is heartbreaking. 7. |

| 44 | 10.09.2020 | TylerWhite | 9.0 | Nach erneutem Sehen, muss ich sagen, ist ECW Barely Legal noch besser als ich es in Erinnerung hatte, denn das ist eine nahezu perfekte Card die kein wirklich schlechtes Match hat. Mit den Dudley Boyz und Joel Gertner hat man die perfekte Besetzung zum Opener, der dann das erfüllt was er soll: Schnell die Eliminators gewinnen lassen und die Crowd aufheizen. Ziemlich gut wird es dann danach mit RVD gegen Lance Storm, die beide eben sehr gute technische Wrestler sind und hier auch technisch gesehen eines der Highlights abliefern. Das MOTN ist danach das Michinoku Pro Showcase 6 Man Tag Match, die wirklich ein grandioses Spotfest abliefern, wie man es zu dem Zeitpunkt in den USA wohl kaum gesehen hat. Und auch heute noch ist das Match absolut sehenswert. Das schwächste, weil doch zu lange und wenig spektakuläre, Match des Abends ist dann Shane Douglas gegen Pitbull #2. Da hätte ich mir mehr von erwartet, aber in der Form war es einfach zu langweilig und ist damit die einzige Ausnahme des PPVs. Taz gegen Sabu ist dann das deutlich bessere Match, weil es einfach ein spannender Styles Clash war. Taz bleibt am Ende dominant, weill den Handshake, wird dann aber von RVD und Sabu angegriffen ehe Bill Alfonso zu diesen turnt. Guter Turn und guter Start für dieses Trio. Wirklich stark war dann das Threeway zwischen Terry Funk, Sandman und Stevie Richards, was ein wirklich starkes Hardcore match mit tollen Spots war. Am Ende schafft es Terry Funk tatsächlich zu gewinnen und trifft nun auf den Champion Raven, der diesen gleich attackiert. Das Match war natürlich absolut overbookt, aber das hat einfach absolut gepasst, denn Terry Funk war so over in seiner Underdog Rolle, sodass jeder Eingriff riesige Reaktionen gezogen hat. Toll hier vor allem Reggie Bennett bei Raven's Nest zu sehen, auch wenn sie danach leider keinen ECW run bekommen hat. Am Ende kommt es zur Konfrontation der Dauerrivalen Raven und Tommy Dreamer, dieser gibt Big Dick Dudley den Tables Spot und greift dann doch ein um seinen Mentor Terry Funk zum Sieg zu verhelfen. Perfektes Ende einer komplett konstanten Show. |

RVD gegen Storm zeigte durchaus die Athletik von beiden trotz des Botches als RVD von den Seilen fällt und seines teils nicht ganz so starken Sellings. Letzteres fand man auch bei 6man Tag aber da war es ja auch nicht wirklich erwünscht, da es halt ein schnelles Spotfest war, in dem jeder was zeigen durfte und es durch das ganze Match viele Nearfalls gab. Für mich MOTN. Um ein richtig überragendes Match zu sein fehlt mir jedoch die Story. Douglas gegen Pitbull #2 hatte hingegen Story, vor Allem gegen Ende als Douglas zu Allen Mitteln griff, war jedoch zu lang und repetitiv an manchen Stellen. Taz gegen Sabu war die Geschichte von Kraft gegen Wagemut. Taz schien sofort Sabu zu zerstören, der dann aber in seinem typischen Stil zurück kam und so wurde es zu einem intensiven Hoss Fight mit überraschenden Turns im Anschluss. Das Number One Contendership Match war ein bisschen eine Mischung aus dem Six Man und Taz gegen Sabu, da es zwar Spots aber auch Storyelemente vor Allem mit Funk als Underdog und Sandman als wahnsinnigen hatte, wobei beides nicht auf absolut spektakulärem Niveau war. Dafür war es aber vor Allem durch das Blut und die Hardcorespots ein sehr ECWhaftes Match. Das ME lebte dann halt vor Allem von der noch größeren Underdogrolle und dem Feel Good Moment Sabus. Insgesamt hatte Barely Legal drei Matches auf ähnlich gutem Niveau, zwei anständige und zwei okaye. Keine Ausreißer nach oben aber auch nichts überragendes. Gemischt mit gutem Booking (keine Bullshit Finishes, Feel Good Moment im ME waber auch nicht überragend zum Beispiel aufgrund der einseitigen Openergestaltung) ist diese Veranstaltung insgesamt absolut, aber nicht überragend und daher 8 Punkte wert. |

PPV? das kannte sie nicht im Opener hatte sich Bubba schwer am Knöchel verletzt und konnte dann länger nicht mehr wrestlen. Der Opener war richtig gut und die Dudleys waren stolz das erste ECW PPV Match zu bestreiten (***1/4). Lance vs RVD war auch richtig gut (***). Zum Six Man Tag Team Match (****1/2) mehr im Guide. ECW World Television Title Match lang und auch sehr stark (***1/2). Selbes Match Rating für Sabu vs Taz. Zu Co Main Event (****) und Main Event (***) auch jeweils mehr in den Guides. Großartiger ECW PPV alle Matches können überzeugen und es gibt sehr viel starkes zu sehen, 10 Punkte. Edit: 14. 04. 2017 Gestern vor 18 Jahren fand der PPV statt er hat nichts von seiner Klasse verloren. |

Das Match danach war nicht ganz so gut, aber ebenfalls solide, obwohl die 2 sicherlich mehr drauf gehabt hätten. Das Six Man zwischen den Japanern war ohne Zweifel das MOTN und auch eines der besten "US-Matches" in diesem Jahr. Das war von Anfang bis Ende bärenstark. Leider folgte darauf aber auch das schwächste Match des Abends, das aus irgendeinem seltsamen Grund auch das Längste war. Taz hielt eine gute Promo vor dem Match gegen Sabu und der Aufbau hatte ebenfalls viel versprochen, der erhoffte Klassiker konnte es aber nicht werden, da dafür Taz wrestlerisch zu limitiert war. Alles in allem war das zwar gut, aber hier wäre sicherlich mehr möglich gewesen. Die letzten Phase des PPV's war dann ECW pur mit einem schönen Hardcore Brawl und viel Overbooking nach dem Three way. Es war der perfekte Abschluss für diesen PPV und der Three Way war auch deutlich besser, als ich ihn erwartet hatte. Ein fast durchgehend unterhaltsamer PPV, der in 3 Stunden genau das projizieren konnte, für das die ECW stand. |

Sehr gut waren an diesem Tag das World Tag Team Titelmatch, RVD gegen Storm und vor allem das Six Man tag Team Match der Japaner. Von Taz gegen Sabu war ich enttäuscht, der Main Event hat dem ganzen Event am Ende positiv die Krone aufgesetzt. Diese Emotionen, herrlich! |

The three-way #1 contenders match and the immediately-following title match between Funk and Raven both delivered; the former from an in-ring and the latter from an emotional standpoint. The sub-main event Taz-Sabu match was also excellent, as was the Michinoku Pro showcase six-man. RVD vs. Storm was a nice showcase for the then-rising star RVD and then-relative-newcomer Storm. I would say that Douglas-Pitbull #2 ran a bit long (though it did have a good story going in) and, conversely, Eliminators-Dudleys seemed a bit rushed. But overall, this shows ECW at its height and is worth seeking out. |

Grandioser Auftritt der Eliminators mit einer extrem hohen workrate für gerade mal 7 Minuten (***1/4) RVD vs. Storm ist auf einem guten Weg, doch zum Ende hin botchen mir die beiden doch zu viel. Dadurch entstehen dann einige merkwürdige Sequenzen. Was sie allerdings schaffen ist ihre Charaktere im Match rüber zu bringen (**1/2) MPW siehe Matchguide (****3/4) Das TV Title Match ist einfach nur fucking boring. Die Story wird schnell über den Haufen geworfen und durch Tiefschläge ausgetauscht. Die Schlussphase funktioniert weder bei der Crowd noch bei mir und das Finish kommt einfach aus dem nichts. Aber ich war froh das es endlich vorbei war. Mit dem Sieger bin ich auch eher weniger einverstanden. Feel-Good-Moment nach der Story wäre nicht das schlechteste gewesen, aber wohl der Feel-Good-Moment schlechthin sollte ja noch kommen. Aftermath war allerdings zimelich cool (1/2*) Taz vs. Sabu siehe MG (***1/4) Main Event siehe MG (***3/4 - **). Historische Show die mich fast durchgehend unterhalten konnte. Die Atmosphäre ist toll, die Matchqualität ist zum größten Teil stark, wenn man denn ein Fan der originalen ECW ist und das Ende ist eines der schönsten der PPV Geschichte. 9 oder gar 10 Punkte kann ich aufgrund des TV Title Fiaskos nicht geben. Den Beiden dafür 20 Minuten zu geben gehört auch den schlechteren Ideen von Paul E. Dennoch eine Show die man sich mal ansehen sollte. |

Selbst wenn man die Show in den "historischen Kontext" stellt, ist es mir unverständlich wie die Show hier so gut wegkommen kann. Oft dachte ich an Jerry Lawler Deutung von ECW: "Extremely Crappy Wrestling". Habe die Show erstmalig nach über 15 Jahren wieder komplett geschaut und es war nicht alles schlecht, aber doch vieles, so Ehrlich muss man meines Erachtens sein. Die ersten beiden Matches gingen okay, Michinoku Pro-Match für die damalige Zeit "wie von einem anderen Stern". Douglas gegen Pitbull No. 2 ging viel zu lange, die Hälfte der Matchzeit hätte es auch getan und Pitbull No. 2 offenbart ziemliche "handwerklich Schwächen". Sabu gegen Taz eher enttäuschend, großes Build-Up und dann wurde relativ schwach abgeliefert. Die letzten beiden Matches, die ich als einen Kampf sehe, waren nur okay und vieles dabei, wo ich heute den Kopf schüttele. Only downsides are the ugly chair shots to the head after all we know about concussions and a very blah Shane Douglas-Pitbull match that went about 10 minutes too long. Definitely worth a watch! |

Die ersten beiden Matches find ich etwas unspektakulär, beziehungsweise wohl einfach 5 Minuten zu kurz, aber spätestens mit dem 6-Men Tag Match nimmt das Ganze rasant an Fahrt auf. Das wiederrum etwas zu lange TV-Title Match bremst dann wieder etwas, aber die restliche Zeit fühlte ich mich vorzüglich unterhalten. Daher 8 Punkte von mir. |

Die Show ist, bis auf das zu lange Douglas - Pitbull 2 Match, einfach klasse. Mit dem 6 Men Tag Match und dem Three Way hat man auch 2 echte Highlights auf der Card. Aber auch der Rest wusste zu überzeugen und mit Funks Titelgewinn bekommt der PPV einen wunderschönen Abschluss. Auch nach heutigen Maßstäben top. |

Es gibt nur einen wirklich Ausreißer nach unten und das ist das Match Douglas vs Pitbull # 2, welches sehr lang und schlecht ist, weil Durante sehr nervös war und es gewohnt war, seine Matches komplett durchzusprechen und Douglas lieber im Ring callen wollte (*1/4). Der Rest ist genau so, wie der Observer es vorgibt. Als Ergänzung noch der starke Opener mit **3/4 und RVD vs Storm mit **1/2. |

Der Rest der Matches bewegte sich eher im ordentlichen bis soliden Bereich ohne wirklich zu glänzen. Mehr als eine 3 kann ich hier nicht geben, obwohl der Event an den 7 Punkten kratzt. |

Einziger Durchhänger ist das ECW World Television Title Match was aber nicht sonderlich ins Gewicht fällt. Schon alleine das grandiose 6-Man Tag ist das Geld wert (zumal es Barely Legal als Bonus zu ECW One Night Stand gibt! ). Einen derartigen Kampf hab ich zumindest in der WWE noch nie gesehen. RVD/Storm und Sabu/Taz sind voll von ECW typischen Moves und unterhalten über die volle Distanz. Über einige upfucks kann man absolut hinwegsehen. Das Three Way Elimination Match und der anschließende Kampf des Siegers gegen Raven bilden einen krönenden Abschluß für einen rundum gelungenen PPV. Must See! |

Einzig Douglas gegen Pitbull enttäuschte wrestlerisch, was im Großen und Ganzen die Note jedoch nicht stark genug drückt, um nicht ein 'sehr gut' vergeben zu können. |
