Overall WWE Backlash (2024) is an incredible show."

[2.0] "The worship for the crowd behavior is frustrating. I found the constant singing every time a wrestler blinked or farted to be in the same obnoxious realm as the what chant. There comes a point where the crowd isn't there to be entertained by the performances, they're entertaining themselves. It's not enthusiasm, it's self indulgence and shouldn't be celebrated as a monumental achievement. The Wrestlemania 18 and Backlash PR crowds are examples of being in a frenzy and adding to the event."

[9.0] "(9.3/10) Best show of WWE's golden year of 2024! Best show of 2024 for all of Pro-Wrestling! The only weak spot of the show really was that confusing mess inside of Bianca/Jade vs Kabuki-Warriors. Beyond that unfortunate mishap, everything was strong to stellar to absolutely f****ng terrific! The opener was all time, the main event as well, so the show is one of the greatest in the history of Professional Wrestling! But the eternal fact of that statement is owed the unbelievable crowd, who will live on in Pro-Wrestling memory forever!"

[8.0] "A pretty good show elevated perhaps, beyond the sum of its parts by the frankly ascendant crowd and atmosphere. The opening Bloodline tag was good, if a tad house show -esque. Randy Orton in 2024 is one my favorites to watch, he doesn't do a lot but I think his in ring IQ is pretty unparalleled even today. The Women's title triple threat was good, I think Naomi shined particularly, and the crowd stayed hot for a match that quite honestly didn't start with a ton of heat. Priest v Uso was just decent which is actually very good when you consider it is a Jey Uso singles match. The women's tag was a bit of a disaster but I also didn't hate it? When a match makes me laugh I can't be too angry. The main event was fantastic, with the glaring exception of the Cody kickout at 1 off of a Burning Hammer, a comically terrible idea that also felt very out of place in this otherwise very logical and traditionally wrestled match."

[9.0] "Excellent PLE on the new season post-mania, the main event was fantastic, proving that AJ can absolutely still go, and giving Cody some credibility as a champion, the opener was an excellent car crash, the world title matches were good, with a surprisingly good Jey Uso vs Priest match, and the women's tag match, although the referee tried his best to ruin it, was still solid."

Great crowd, great matches & moments. We started off with Bloodline vs. R-KO and it was a good match with a shocking conclusion with the addition of Tanga Loa to the Bloodline. Then the Triple Threat match happened and it was good. Priest vs. Jey was also pretty good and planted seeds for a JD breakup. The weakest match was the Women's Tag match and the main event was the MOTN. [****]"

[8.0] "This show was so good and I really enjoyed it throughout the show. Starting off with The Bloodline VS R-KO was great, I always love a good street fight and the debut of Tanga Loa was really cool. Next came up with the Triple Threat Match for the WWE Women's Championship, it was great, Bayley, Naomi, and Stratton were great. It delivered with the right winner while keeping all the stars in a good position. After that came Damian Priest VS Jey Uso which overall delivered what was supposed to happen. Priest retains and continues the face turn hints against The Judgment Day. Then with the Women's Tag Team Title match, The moment was great, the match was ok, very botchy but the moment was awesome. And now finally the main event, Cody Rhodes VS AJ Styles for the Undisputed WWE Championship. This match was basically perfect, I loved every second of it and I'm so glad that we got to see this match. So I was going to give this show a 9/10. But I can't leave out the people of the France crowd that carried the show, you can't talk about this PLE without mentioning the absolutely amazing crowd."

The energy in the arena was off the charts, and it felt like the fans were just as much a part of the show as the Superstars themselves. Cody Rhodes vs. AJ Styles. This match was pure magic, a perfect mix of technical mastery and unmatched chemistry between two of the best in the business. Every move, every moment, had the crowd hooked, and their passionate reactions made the whole thing feel larger than life. Sure, the night had its slower moments, but honestly, the atmosphere and top-tier performances overshadowed any lulls. Coming fresh off an insane WrestleMania, Backlash felt like the perfect follow-up."

[9.0] "Great show. Matches all ranged from good to great. Randy and KO vs the Bloodline was violent and entertaining and was a good first showing for Solo's new bloodline with beating 2 top guys in KO and Randy. Triple threat women's match was good, Tiffany was amazing, Bayley was great, Naomi was... there. Priest vs Uso was good. Jey is so so over and showed that he can handle being in a championship match, Priest looked like a legit champ. Tag match was good. Kabuki warriors showed out like always with their in ring skills and though Jade is green she has clear potential. Cody vs AJ was out of this world. Loved every minute. Cody is a phenomenal worker and star. 2 of the best in the business putting on a clinic and really putting their bodies through it. Overall great show."

The opening was one of the best tag team match in 2024. And then the main event, it was a masterpiece. High level of wrestling right there."

The opener and main event were definitely the best matches of the night, with the impromptu change of the opener becoming a Street Fight being great, but the substance in between was still really good. An absolutely amazing show and perhaps the best international show WWE has done this year in terms of everything combined (Bash in Berlin had better in-ring quality and consistency imo). rKO/Solo-Tama - ****1/4, Bayley/Naomi/Tiffany - ***3/4, Priest/Jey - ***1/2, Bianca-Jade/Kabuki Warriors - ***, Cody/AJ - ****1/2."

[10.0] "I may be biased by multiple factors, like this being the first PLE in my country and the first I get to attend. But as a wrestling fan, this was a wonderful night nevertheless. Insane atmosphere, even more in person. Most of the arena stayed on their feet for the entirety of the opener, which was a great, satisfying way to start the evening. The momentum continued with the very fun triple threat. You can argue than the crowd elevated the Priest/Uso match above its true worth. But hey, it was very easy to believe in Jey's victory if you were inside of the LDLC Arena., It might just be an above-average match for the outsiders though. The Women's Tag Title match was definitely the low-point. It's not bad but lacked a bit of heat and it got confusing with the referee screwup. Good finish and it's nice to see Asuka deliver while injured, but it wasn't as memorable as the other matches. Finally, AJ/Cody, and wow. The match had intensity in spades and was technically immaculate from bell to bell, and I'd like to think it instantly made Cody legitimate as a face world champ. Again, it was made even more special by the audience who made both men over. Unfortunately they kinda lost focus on the actual match near the end and I think it shows on the Burning Hammer spot. With Backlash France, WWE turned a PLE with low stakes and a kinda underwhelming card into a must-watch, "you had to be there" kind of night."

[10.0] "A relatively weakly constructed PLE and a map mixing novelties and déjà-vu or a bit average. The matches weren't the best in the ring. On the other hand, the audience carried the show, a French-style energy and an inordinate pride that made this moment memorable. What a party!"

[7.0] "I have a bone to pick with this PLE cause, man, was this an obnoxious crowd. And it's a shame, cause this is probably my favourite "B Level" PLE WWE has provided this year. The street fight was lots of fun, even if it's nothing to write home about, but it was a great opener. Probably the only match the crowd was sincerely engaged with. Triple threat was great. Easily Bayley's best title defence during that reign. Priest/Jey was the low point of the show for me. Nothing offensive here, but it kinda fell flat, probably due to Jey's limited moveset. Women's tag match was alright. The issue with Kairi definitely had an impact and affected the pace of the match, but at least it had an awesome finish. As for the main event... Such a great match to be treated as a football match (which is structurally entirely different from a wrestling match) by the crowd was really unfortunate. It was fun when they chanted the song on SD and during AJ's intorduction, but it should have stopped there. The match still delivered big time. Overall and independently from the crowd, 3 great matches and 2 weaker but serviceable ones warrant a 7.0/10 from me."

Sorry for those who didn't appreciate the audience but we've been waiting for a PPV here in France for so long, that we were way too excited! Really an incredible show and for the moment really the best this year!"

[8.0] "Magic atmosphere and suberp matches. It started with a boost of adrenaline thanks to the excellent Street Fight betwenn The Bloodline and Randy & Owens. The Triple Threat for the WWE Women's Title was good, like Jey vs Damian. The most forgettable match was the conquer of the Tag Titles by Bianca and Jade, but that was funny too. And the main event was a great great wrestling match, already a classical of Backlash. The best way to start Cody's reign and WWE's new era."

The least good match, not worst, was definitely the WH title, with Jey's in-ring work still deteriorating since Summerslam 2023. Still a banger with the main event being an instant classic, cementing Cody's reign as one of the most memorable starts ever."

Mythic chants like "Simplement Deux" took over the arena, it meant a lot for us growing up with gentlemen Aigus & Chereau that deserved their long overdue spot hometown ! Matches were huge as a whole, I just enjoyed my night and made it clear that Ill be there next time in France !"

"6 Even though I rated every match pretty good and there was nothing bad on this show, the sum of it's parts and the lasting appeal of this show was less than desired. The card wasn't very impressive to begin with. There's no standout match, there was very little build and for the most part the winners weren't really in question. AJ vs Cody was going to steal the show as they are great wrestlers but I didn't buy AJ as a viable winner and is he's pretty cold at the moment. It kinda felt like those UK ppv's that didn't air in the US, back in the 90's. Most people will say that the crowd elevated the show and I get that. I have a different opinion though. I believe a crowd can be too hot. A crowd like this distracts from the action in the ring and gets tiring after a while. It did elevate the first match for me as it was a no dq tag match (tornado tag, I think) where crowd interaction always helps. By the main event I got a headache and was exhausted from the crowd. They almost made me not want to see AJ, one of the best wrestlers of the past 2 decades imo. The crowd literally made me sick and tired as I got a headache and was exhausted at this point."

[6.0] "One of the most overrated shows I've ever watched. Yes the crowd come off as exciting and unique at first and I enjoyed them during the opener, but after that they went rapidly downhill for me and I think it actively hurt the show at times, particularly during the main event as they continuously went into business for themselves. I'm all for people having fun but the chants after every 2 count, singing the national anthem and saying every match was awesome just became obnoxious in my opinion. The matches themselves were mostly just decent to me outside of the very good main event. I think people's enjoyment of the crowd was unfortunately vastly inflated scores for the show. 6.5/10"

[9.0] "Such a good show. This had great matches just piling on top of each other. MOTN for me was the street fight but Cody vs AJ was an absolute blockbuster. The womens triple threat under delivered and the womens tag went on for too long but was still really good whilst Damian vs Jey was also very solid."
Swampfactor wrote on 30.05.2024:
[9.0] "This crowd was the definition of electric and I love it. One of the biggest benefactors of events is whether or not the crowd is into it and holy hell they were. The tag match turning into a street fight, Kevin's brainbuster to Tama Tonga on the chairs, Tonga Loa's debut & Cody and AJ's match were the absolute best points. The crowd singing during the match with AJ was an amazing thing too. Damian & Jey and the triple threat match were solid matches that made no one look weak and gave great showings. Also seeing the fireflies during Jey's entrance and Lyon singing Voices for Randy were fantastic. However there is the women's tag match which was the definition of chaotic... and not in the best way. Half the time I was confused as to what was going on and overall a mess that left me befuddled. It was a good match but someone messed up somewhere and it derailed momentum. Definitely one of the best PLE's held and I hope they go back to France soon!"

[9.0] "Easily the best PPV crowd I've ever seen, elevated a good show to a great one. They stayed hot for the entire 3 hours, which is a major feat, and kept even the less interesting matches (WHC, WTT) somewhat engaging. Major props for letting Rhodes/Styles put on the type of match everyone knows they're capable of."

[8.0] "on paper a decent card but the crowd made this into an all timer of a ple. I assume all the people saying the crowd ruined the show are all American's as this is what European and south American crowds are always like around other sports. The matches, while predictable, were all very good in ring performances, especially from AJ and Tiffany. the only surprise of the show was the debut of Tanga loa with everyone expecting jacob fatu. an extra surprise, such as unle howdy, is the only thing taking it away from being a perfect show wuth arguably the greatest crowd of all time and no bad matches."

The switch to making it a street fight was so smart. I did not expect Tanga Loa to show up at all ***1/2. Women's triple threat was really enjoyable as well ***3/4. Priest and Uso was a little dull honestly. I am glad that right guy won and there were some fun moments ***. The women's tag dragged a little and Cargill still needs some work but not bad ***. Rhodes and Styles was a banger of a match. Loved the chemistry that those two have. Great action ****1/2. Really nice show."

On the fight side, the match between the Bloodline and Orton and Owens was really good and the energy of the crowd really elevated this meeting between the 2 teams to a higher level. The second best fight of the evening was undoubtedly the Rhodes vs. Style, not a 5 star but a good 4.75. the other 3 fights were nice but if the audience hadn't been there, this show would certainly have deserved a 7/10"

It certainly helps when the crowd is as loud as they possibly can be for the entire show, even during the weakest points as the World Heavyweight Title match and the Women's Tag Team Title match. A crowd like that with a great opener and a great main event is what makes this a really fun card, and a great way to continue after WrestleMania XL."

This is one of those shows that had the perfect foil of matches ranging in all kinds of genres and capped off with an all-timer crowd. France has certainly left a huge impact on the conversation of one of the best wrestling crowds of the decade, raising every match's stock a notch up. The off-guard debut of Tonga Loa and the incredible main event were the highlights of the night, and the results were perfectly made through memorable conclusions for every match. I'm glad that WWE's experiment in international shows is becoming a rad success, leaving more excitement for the rest of the schedule till summer."

I did not find any of the matches other than the main event to be very good. Felt like a WWE house show for the most part where people were phoning it in. Sure, the crowd was into it, but that doesn't suddenly make this some amazing event. I feel like the bloodline match was a complete mess. It was fun enough but like an extended version of a tv main event match I've felt I've seen already. And there were botches with the newest member of the bloodline who's honestly not good, tama tonga's brother. He didn't seem to be able to operate the ring apron or find a table. I mean, really? That's 4.5 stars now? Bayley and Tiffany Stratton are both good wrestlers, naomi isn't and dragged down match 2 which was on the whole lazy. Damian Priest/Jey Uso was passable but felt like a house match. I think Jey Uso is just lazy and Damian Priest seemed off and I really like him. The bianca belair/jade cargill vs was fine. Main event was very good but not some exceptional 5 star match. I'm not high on Cody like everyone seems to be. I think he's honestly better chasing the belt than having it. There's worse ways to spend an afternoon, nothing on this card is even vaguely bad, it's just consistently pretty mediocre.I didn't think anything was great and the main event was the only thing I thought was particularly good."

There were a lot of wrestlers absent, we could have expected a card with a little more star power and yet we made Backlash 2024 unforgettable thanks to our chants from start to finish. Apart from the women's tag team match where the atmosphere was a little less noisy, all the other matches were fantastic to experience live. Jey Uso's entrance will forever be one of the best entrances of all time. It was also very nice to see a title change with Belair/Cargill to make the show a little more historical. The main event was incredible, a classic that will be remembered for years between two great wrestlers and which closed this event in the best possible way. Thank you WWE for giving the French crowd the opportunity to show the whole world what we can do. We hope this was just the first event and that a future PLE will take place in a stadium with a larger crowd."

The 3-way match was quite sloppy but picked up towards the end ***. Priest/Uso was an average match but it was carried by the crowd. It didn't feel like a World title match at all ***. The women tag was easily the worst match of the night. Jade looks pretty good. The action was okay with some botches **. The main event was another good match. The crowd was loud all the time until they wanted to entertain themselves by singing. It was an usual WWE main event style match with big moves towards the end. Fantastic opener and fantastic ending matches, fun event all together."

"Obviously this review will be biased because I was there. But you just can't review this event on the wrestling alone. This was a pivotal event for WWE because it's the first PLE in continental Europe (that I know of), with a supposedly non-English speaking crowd: it was a test, and the world got to witness how we passed this test about how passionate we are. Sure the card wasn't that great and the matches ranged from serviceable to not bad at all (the Street Fight was great in my opinion and Meltzer gave the main event a 5*). 12, 000 people just enjoying what they dreamed of because most couldn't afford a trip to America, if you think that crowd was annoying, you probably need some more joy in your life. 9/10"

[8.0] "An overall good show in front of a very hot crowd. Cody vs AJ in the main was great stuff, and the opening KO/Orton vs Sikoa/Tonga street fight was a very strong brawl. Bayley's three-way title defense vs Naomi and Stratton was also good. Priest vs. Jey was pretty good, with some story intrigue for what seems to be an inevitable face turn for Priest, and for Jey went a ways towards making up for the disappointing Mania match. Bianca/Jade vs Kabuki Warriors was the weakest of the show kind of by default; it started fine but went off the rails with the legal-competitor situation and never really recovered from that. It seems like the WWE performers are a little "looser" on this show, with a bit more crowd interaction than we've seen from the company in a long time, and the slightly scaled-back production is also welcome. This was definitely WWE's strongest major event of 2024 so far."
