[8.0] "[8] I really did create an account to take some shots on this episode. To be fair, I can't rate this episode lower than 7.5(rounded to 8) due to the very fact half of it was a very solid in-ring action. While Mox vs Kingston became obvious (and I think you may very well understand why would AEW creative choose Mox over White) the psychology & work from both guys redeemed it, solid mic work in the post-match confrontation. Keith Lee's absence is horrendous. He did claim he was paying a visit to Swerve, didn't he and now he's handing a contract in case if he misses Swerve? Idk if he was really unavailable during that time (for whatever reason) or was it a stupid booking decision but at least they got a PPV match after a fkn year. For what though? I'd like to see Keith confronting Swerve post-match (where Swerve would be also tired) in an agressive way. They needed heat. Swerve will be going to places (and idek where would Keith go from there) so it's just fine if Swerve didn't win the tournament in the first place. Don Callis Family stuff was fun until... Yk, Sammy's return. He is the Big Show of AEW. They just can't decide what to do with him and in the absence of Omega, Jericho needed a partner huh? How obvious. Now, they are having a 4-man tag out of blue where the winner is clear once again due to the duo of Sting & Allin. I doubt the match itself would deliver either, it'll be average. Man, just put Jericho off-screen for a little while and have the other guys do something else. AEW keeps putting up random matches before a week and there's no stopping to it. Mariah May promo was ok. Ladies action was ok. Interesting to see Skye was put over Statlander. Cage&Copeland segment was the exact thing they needed rather than a sit-down interview. It'll be very physical and this was a peek into it. And at last, the Devil stuff. It's run its course already but it was really redeemable. Just have a match 4-5 mins long where they use 2 henchments as a decoy and pull a ploy where they switch the henchmens. Give hints who those 4 men could be. Show us what shennenigans can they afford in order to win (apart from usual rope trope which was not done neatly as well). Instead, we got a squash and it did not work. Why they are trying so hard to keep the identities hidden just to reveal them this Saturday. I just hope ROH Tag Titles can go back to their old prestige (and I think they might put the belt on Roddy&KOR rather than the Kingdom, I might be completely wrong tho. It's AEW for a reason). Samoa's betrayal was forced and unnecessary. Dude relinquished his damn TV title to seek the world title. He's the Samoan Destroyer and over af. He doesn't need to go dirty. Compared to last year's New Year Smash, this was a poor episode and I'd rate it 4 or 5 at max if it was not for the C2 finals."

[8.0] "Once the C2 ends it's gonna be really hard to watch the Aew product again. Let's face it: if it wasn't for the C2's semifinals, this show would've been awful and filled nonsense and cringe moments. The opening triple threat was amazing, one of Aew's best triple threats. Moxley winning was the obvious choice but also the smartest as it creates a great dynamic for the final against Kingston at World's End. Shame White got the pin but, among the three, he was the most exendable. Mariah May's interview was alright, she has got some buzz around her lately so let's capitalize on her. Also Riho and Toni Storm brawling was good as it furthers their rivalry going into World's End. Not very long segment but they did the most with the short time they had and I appreciate them for that, good and functional segment. The Don Callis Family's segment is the reason why I think the Aew product will be almost unwatchable in 2024: Sammy Guevara returns after 3 months and turns babyface. What was the point of his heel turn in the first place? Why is Jericho saving him and re-allying with me after Sammy betrayed him? Why are Sting and Darby Allin still involved with Jericho in December? And let's not even mention Takeshita's situation who's even out of the Pay-Per-View now. I get that due to Omega's health problems they had to do something last minute but come on... why don't just let Ibushi be Jericho's partner and have the champs retaining? Awful stuff. Kingston vs. Danielson was the match of the tournament, a five star classic that is also one of the best matches of the year. A storytelling masterpiece with near perfect in-ring action: just everything that I want from wrestling. Really hyped for Mox and Kingston in the finals. Copeland/Cage brawl was cool, one of the best stories going into World's End altough in the last couple weeks the feud cooled off a little bit. Statlander vs. Blue was really soild and the post-match was good. Nightingale possibly set-up as the next challenger for Julia Hart, Abadon made her presence known and probaby Statlander will have her rematch soon. Everything in one segment, good stuff. The main event was... what it was. Look I've tried to defend MJF as much as possible but this stuff is simply bad, it doesn't work. The masked goones winning the ROH titles, the world champ losing to a masked dude and, altough I liked it, Joe's turn it's not enough to save an horrendous ending for the show. Really hope MJF brings his A-game on December 30th and delivers a great perfomance in-ring wise or the end of his reign it's gonna be pretty awful. Overall: the C2 saved this show and I don't want that awful angles like the one with the Don Callis Family and the final one with the MJF and the goones take something away from those bangers we got in the C2 so I'm rating this episode so high just because of those two match. Also shout out to the women's division for being really enjoyable as of late."

[6.0] "This was an okay episode. The continental classic carried this show, the two Block Finals match were easily the two best and the only good part of the whole show. Blue Vs Statlander was solid enough as well but they are milking this story with no new progression. The Devil Storyline is also getting way too corny and the storytelling isn't all that great that they are milking it as like an epic type of story when it absolutely isn't, the main event wasn't a match I was looking forward too much, but damn was it a terrible way to end MJF's tag team reign and Joe's betrayal was predictable. The Sammy Jericho reunion as well as Sting's return after having his final match is all sorts of inconsistent and terrible storytelling. The bad was bad the good was good, it was a very inconsistent show. MOTN Bryan Vs Kingston (****1/2)"

I dont understand the low ratings, what more could you guys possibly want in a 2 hour wrestling show, leading into a PPV that feels big. 2 just incredible matches, leading into the Continental Classic Finals, especially that amazing hard hitting chop fest between Danielson and Eddie. This tournament has been great and should be a yearly staple going forward. Some good angles on this show as well, with the Don Calis Family, as well as Christian and Adam Copeland, and the main event angle which many may have seen coming, buts a little edge on the world title match, and gives an out for MJF possibly dropping the belt. Overall this show really couldnt have been better."

[8.0] "This was a hard show to rate because there was relatively little wrestling on it, which is usually a shoe-in for a bad rating, but the wrestling that was there was really good. We opened with the three-way finals of the Gold League between Jon Moxley, Swerve Strickland, and Jay White. This match was as good as one would expect from a match featuring these three. When we next got wrestling, almost forty minutes later, it was the finals of the Blue League, between Bryan Danielson and Eddie Kingston. This was easily the Match of the Night. We then got a match between Kris Statlander and Skye Blue. It was quite good, but it's a match-up that's overdone at this point. Finally, MJF dropped the ROH Tag Team Titles to the Devil's Masked Men in something that was technically a match."

Can't believe we're doing this again with Sammy Guevara. TK, please let Takeshita wrestle, I beg you. MJF stuff was dog shit as per usual. Embarrassing NXT-level garbage that's dragging the World Title below hell. Please end this (and let Joe destroy him). Apart from that good show."

[5.0] "They really should have unmasked the devil's masked men, really happy that the ROH tag title was changed, it was being held on for way too long, especially since one of the people that was supposed to defend is injured. MidJF title reign as a babyface has not been good hoping Joe wins, but it's probably gonna be a screwy finish with interference from the devil, who is probably Cole. Also great to see Jay White losing the big one as usual. Kingston beating Bryan makes sense, I'm guessing Kingston is going to win at the PPV. For a go home PPV show it was lackluster, but the PPV should be full of good matches, hoping the reveal of the devil happens as well, since that has been going on for a long time."

[6.0] "I would divide this show into three parts. One part good, one part bad and the last part very bad. Let's see, this program left a very bad taste in my mouth at the booking level, mainly in three moments of the show. First, a fantastic triple threat between Mox, Swerve and White, it was very physical and synchronized between everyone involved, they gave a good time so that everyone could show off, but I don't agree at all with the result of the fight. This was my first blow with this show, I felt that White deserved that opportunity more and there was a story with Kingston (who was obviously going to the final) because of everything that happened in NJPW a few months ago. Then came the segments, the female one was correct and the other one about Don Callis's family was too long and this was the second blow with the booking. Why reunite Sammy Guevara with Jericho if the former had betrayed him a couple of months ago? Has no sense. The program continued with the fight between Danielson and Eddie, which was truly spectacular, incredible performance by both, with a very physical, psychological and well-synchronized fight. The public became completely immersed in the fight. My favorite fight of the night by far. The Copeland and Christian Cage segment was very good, they sold me their fight for Saturday in the best possible way, a very intense segment and these are things that help the program to have something fresh during the two hours. The women's fight was correct, not one of the best, but nothing to do. And finally, the main event, which personally was by far the worst I have seen in 2023 at the AEW booking level. First, why make some framed champions as a couple? There is no sense in that. Second, the fight was very poorly done, in the best Bischoff or Russo style in WCW. And third, that Samoa turn was so poorly done, very forced and done quickly to face a face vs heel for Saturday. These things make AEW's product question a lot, but I am sure that on Saturday they will put on a great show and these errors will help improve the product. I can understand that these ideas are trial and error, but you should not abuse this concept because it can be detrimental in the future. So, to summarize: The best, the two C2 fights and the segment between Copeland and Cage. The bad, the Don Callis family segment and the final outcome of the triple threat. The very bad thing, the main event. 6/10."

The ending with the demons was very bad, this story looks like content from Vince Russo or TNA in the Hulk Hogan era, but that doesn't take away from what a great show this was. I don't understand why there were so many low ratings, maybe favoritism towards a company, but regardless of that it was a great show."

[9.0] "If only slightly, I thought both of the C2 matches over-delivered from an in-ring perspective as well as a live audience perspective. The crowds were fully engaged and there were clear stories being told for all five competitors in the two finals. That is, even the losers of these matches have fresh/fun angles coming out of the tournament that should help them remain relevant and compelling throughout the start of 2024. The time given to Mariah May was well-used, as was the time given to pre-tapes for Andrade/Miro and Swerve/Keith Lee. The Callis Family stuff worked for the live audience (even if the eight-man tag at Worlds End seems uninspired). I can see how people may be growing tired of the Devil storyline, but it appears to be paying off soon (perhaps as early as this Saturday), so I'll tolerate the delay a little longer."

Jon Moxley vs Jay White vs Swerve Strickland: All three gave all they had and more in the final Gold League match, pacing was right throughout the match and the in ring action was solid, Jon Moxley winning was the right choice, Jay White and Swerve Strickland put up a good fight but Jon Moxley proved that he is one of the best wrestlers that AEW have to offer [****1/2]. Eddie Kingston vs Bryan Danielson: Better than their match earlier in the tournament, could not have asked for a better Blue League final match, physical as expected, Eddie Kingston winning was the best way to go, Bryan Danielson looked good throughout the match [****3/4]. Skye Blue vs Kris Statlander: Decent women's division match, although the interference by Julia Hart was not needed, but cool looking avalanche code blue for the win for Skye Blue [**3/4]. MJF vs The Devil's Masked Men: Did not fucking see the point in this so called match, the post match angle with Samoa Joe being in cahoots with The Devil was not good and can't wait to the see the end of the storyline [DUD]."

But at the same time, the episode shows that AEW is still hurting creatively from a few key injuries (Kenny's diverticulitis, Adam Cole's ankle, MJF's labrum, Sammy's concussion). My impression of the storyline beats is that even though they didnt fully click with me, they were a necessary evil to have all the pieces in position for the PPV at the weekend."

He's always leaned more on the cheesy side, so I don't know why people are surprised by the overbooked nonsense. People say 'get this away from the world title, ' I say 'get MJF away from the world title' if you want things to be a bit more serious. The C2 semis were good but not great, and with a resulting pairing I'm not thrilled about. Swerve's in-ring work is at an all-time high, please keep him rolling. Good to see Stat and Skye Blue have a decent match that unfortunately got no build."

The first hour was really solid, told great stories, then the second part had some good moments too. This felt very different from what we are used to see and I think it's great, the show had two of the best televised matches of the year, and everything felt important. The Don Callis Family segment is being criticized, and I understand some critics, I agree that Sammy Guevara turned face and heel more than he should and today that felt nonsensical, but the segment was really pleasant, the crowd cheered a lot and it was a nice mess in my opinion. The ending was the worst part and really made me not rate this show perfect, they went to the commercials 5 minutes before the end of the show, and even with the overrun everybody knew it was gonna be some short or repetitive thing, we could obviously feel it was gonna ruin the show. I just didn't thought it was that bad because of Joe's heel turn, really good moment in my opinion. The Devil henchmen being ROH Tag Team Champs is completely weird as well."

AEW rarely allows matches to hit the 20-minute mark on TV, so the fact that we got two of them on the same show is something special. The rest of the card was nothing too memorable - just your usual go-home show angles - but the ending puts extra heat on Joe and makes him look strong going into his title match. I have no idea who the Devil is, so whether this long storyline will be worth it or not all depends on the big reveal."

The triple threat was awesome, good solid action with much invested in the winner as it was unknown. Would have liked Jay White final, Mox is a good worker but overexposed. Bryan/Kingston was emotional, if repetitive. Women match was ok filler and built to the ppv. Riho also got big support. Psycho Harley Cameron popped me. Callis segment was funny but didn't make so much sense. Sammy turning again is not ideal, just send Jericho away for awhile. Main event angle was on life support."

That match is certainly worth going out of your way to watch. However, the rest of the show left a lot to be desired. The Devil Angle has been pretty poor throughout and is past the point of redemption for me. The Callis Family's feud with Jericho started with a flimsy premise and has continued to disappoint. Reuniting Sammy Guevara with Jericho was unearned and just not a good angle."

Those two matches are worth the watch, rest of the episode is very skippable."

The Eddie/Danielson match was hilarious with Danielson getting "bum" chants started about Eddie. I'm not a fan of Eddie's endless chop spamming every match, he's just so limited in the ring that I get bored of his matches pretty fast, but the character work from both guys helped this a lot. Skye and Kris was decent. Nice to see the ladies division starting to feel more well rounded and developed. The Callis stuff had me laughing out loud, those damn ridiculous paintings. I don't mind Sammy turning back face again, it feels ok given the birth of his child and how Callis had been ignoring him. Idk what to make of that eight man with Sting anounced. The brawl with Christian was nicely done. Now, the Devil stuff. I was rolling my eyes so hard up until Joe cracked MJF with the chair. That almost saved the segment for me, but honestly this needs to end at the PPV with MJF dropping the belt. He's just not a good babyface and his title reign is languishing with this dragging Devil crap."

The Blue League finale was even better, in my opinion. Bryan and Eddie had an absolute Dynamite classic. It was hard hitting, brutal, and told a great story of Eddie needing the victory against a tough opponent. I also thought Stantlander vs Skye was good. The negatives include a very overbooked Don Callis segment and a slightly ridiculous main event segment and squash. Samoa Joe's betrayal was cool, but everything before that was not good."

"Disinterested Maleficent" Skye Blue getting the win at least feels like movement in the women's division. Bryan vs. Kingston has been one of the most consistently engaging in-ring pairings in the history of AEW and I could watch them do their thing forever. For a "Devil" segment... this was probably above average? It took about seven minutes and had something actually happen with the Joe-is-in-cahoots reveal, but I think I'm speaking for everyone when I say they can wrap all this up. Opener was a joy. Never have I been reminded of how many mark high schoolers I share the internet with in regards to ANYONE who thinks Swerve should have went over. The whole point of booking the three way was to get him featured in the tournament and get him out while taking minimal pins. The dude clearly needs to make his way to the World Title picture sooner than later and the Triple Crown would only weight him down. And I understand that Moxley/Kingston in New York is a better long-term story choice, but the people get angry when you go over Switchblade and Mox's main event goodwill might be running out."

Eddie Kingston vs. Bryan Danielson was also great and Eddie winning was a great moment. The promo that Eddie cut on Mox afterwards was good shit and I'm sure their C2 finals match at the PPV will deliver. Now, with all that being said, the rest of this show FUCKING SUCKED ASS. Holy shit that Don Callis segment was wretched WWE horseshit and Sammy coming back to team with Jericho for the one billionth time is garbage. Everything Jericho touches turns to shit. The main event "angle" with the Devils masked henchmen winning the ROH tag titles from MJF was fucking abysmal. This was straight outta TNA. The Samoa Joe swerve was also fucking stupid. Why does Samoa Joe need to go through all of this trouble to take out MJF? HE'S SAMOA FUCKING JOE, HE'S A KILLER. WHY DOES HE NEED HELP? This show was like two different companies tonight. The BLUE LEAGUE final gave us a fantastic 1 on 1 bout, and then we got a great promo featuring the two winners that left me hyped for the PPV. ////// On the other side of the show, we've got the two biggest stories in AEW that have just felt like a complete creative albatross on the show over the last several months. Two major angles that just felt nonsensical. MJF & The Devil, and the Don Callis Family/Golden Jets/Sammy Guevara situation. These stories have been disasters for months. I understand injuries have changed direction for both of them WILDLY. I understand that they were in this weird situation where it was probably VERY HARD to think of anything that fans would have looked at POSITIVELY. But what they ended up doing just stunk. I've said before that I am absolutely dreading, DREADING watching Dynamite when the C2 tournament is over because I don't want to go back to random, heatless matches with doses of MJF sprinkled in, and while tonight wasn't that, it didn't bode well for the booking's immediate future. Both C2 matches were pretty good, and Eddie's promo with Mox was great even though I'm not big on Mox winning. Unfortunately, the rest of the show was just segments. The big one saw the Don Callis family reappear after being regulated to Rampage for the past month and with them came Sammy Guevara, who got the quietest Return Pop of the year. Sammy, possibly the most unconvincing face (and heel) of all time is assissted by his tenuous friend/enemy/lover Chris Jericho, determined to never let an unhogged spotlight pass him by, diverticulitis be damned. The beatdown also saw Sting/Allen and Starks/Bill come out to assist in possibly the most unnatural, overbooked way to set-up a PPV match in recent memory. Jesus. The other big segment of the night, the weekly MJF cringefest, saw Joe reveal himself as working for the Devil. I guess that cinches the deal that the stable is all former people MJF screwed over in the past (Wardlow, possibly Hangman) but the way it's being done is incredibly stupid and prolonged. I am not looking forward to another worked injury MJF main event two months in a row. Jesus fucking christ, no. Especially not against Joe. Especially not when they CAN and SHOULD just have a regular wrestling match. The strength of the C2 matches prevents me from going lower than a 6 here, since they really were great, but everything surrounding MJF is emabrrassing and seeing the company repeat the same mistakes week to week is disheartening. Appreciate the C2 for what it was. We're probably not getting anything like it anytime soon."

[9.0] "I really enjoyed this show, I only watched it because I couldn't sleep and started it whilst falling asleep but by the 60% mark I was forcing myself to stay awake. I really enjoyed this show, , 3 insanly good matches including a great women's war, a stupidly fun Triple threat and an expectedly great Danielson/Kingston battle, my only complaint is the Angle with Joe, which I actually kinda like, was the main event instead of Eddie VS Bryan"

[10.0] "I absolutely loved this show for a myriad of reasons. The first standout moment was the absurdly intense match featuring Moxley, Swerve, and Jay White. It served as an exceptional show opener, with Moxley playing the boss role to perfection, Swerve being the captivating ShowMan, and Jay White's impeccable limb work earning him the title of MVP. The second highlight was the gripping encounter between Eddie Kingston and Bryan, where the storytelling reached unprecedented levels. Kingston's ability to convey a compelling narrative paired with Bryan's undeniable GOAT status created an emotionally charged experience that had me glued to the screen from start to finish. Adding to the overall appeal was the post-match PromoBattle between Moxley and Eddie, providing an extra layer of excitement and depth to the show. The anticipation for the final match reached new heights, and the prospect of it serving as the Worlds End Main Event only intensified my enthusiasm. In essence, this show delivered a perfect blend of intense in-ring action, captivating storytelling, and compelling character dynamics, making it an unforgettable experience that left me eagerly anticipating future events."

[7.0] "Overall I can't call this a bad show as we had two fantastic CC matches, some great segments with Riho/Toni/Mariah and Copeland/Christian's beatdown, and Skye Blue vs Kris Statlander was solid, but the sports entertainment dregs of this show was horrible, the sudden turn of Sammy back to Jericho is absolutely a sticky plaster situation and thats whatever, but man this stuff with the Devil? Bad stuff lads, bad bad stuff, move on already, we don't need to do it anymore, sports entertainment is not what AEW is all about and you can see it here tonight, AEW is all about PROFESSIONAL GOD DAMN WRESTLING, no sports entertainment at all."
